I too find the ongoing, rather distant, yet horrific planetary changes scary, but humanity and the lifestyles we lead scare me more. Look at ourselves. Look at yourself. Look honestly. Look at what we have done look at the race we are a part of. We are all a product of history, of evolution, of the societies and cultures we have lived in, of the education we received, and as such we are a continuation of the mindset of the past, but living in this incredible modern, but insanely complex and interdependent world. Look at the past and the lessons we should have learnt from our history. Look at what we are capable of. Ongoing wars, genocide, slavery, greed, abuse, hatred, manipulated people and abused political power. All this is in our world history again and again, and still with us today. This is fundamentally what we are all capable of, it is in our very nature.
We have come to a point where we are ALL contributing to a "hidden" war with the very planet we live on, through being a part of the system that fuels it's destruction. Together we are devastating nature and other species and still at times each other. Economic growth at any expense, expansion at any cost. Perpetuating our own interests. Have we really changed? Have we evolved to be what we should be, what we could have been?
The way we are, the way we think is not our fault, but evolution has brought us to here and made us like this, we are not individually to blame for who we are. However, we have reached a point where the planet cannot sustain our behaviour any longer. We have to fundamentally change. We have to change what we do, how we act and behave. We have to challenge ourselves to really adapt and question everything we take as being right and truthful. How our past has made us think and act has become incompatible with life.
We ignore the knowledge we have to allow ourselves to lead the lives we live. To be "happy". We pay little heed to the consequences of the products we use, the food we eat, the journeys we make and the energy we use. The lifestyle we lead is led by many which normalises it, makes it acceptable and justifiable in our own minds that we live his way. How can we be truly happy knowing what we know? Forgetting, ignoring and denial can lead us to think we are happy, but subconsciously, within us, we know we are not.
We have to allow ourselves to explore and fully embrace our understanding and knowledge, both individually and collectively, to facilitate change. Debate, discussion, and truthful evaluation of where we are. Responding to the science as we know it, without political, business and economic interest clouding and defacing the conclusions. Acting together as one for the good of all and everything. Fairness, compassion, cooperation, sensitivity, love, and sacrifice for the collective good.
At the core is treating other people as we would our own family. Thinking about, but more importantly engaging emotionally and feeling for the other beings on this planet and what they are experiencing and how our actions contribute to the lives they lead. Take off the mindset layered over who you are and search for and challenge your own truth.
In short, I am embarrassed to be a human. Ashamed of myself and my life, of how I have lived it, of the choices I made and what I have taken for granted. I am ashamed of the society I live in , or our mindsets and values. Of what it made me. It has become clear to me the depths we have sunk to and although I recognise both humans and myself are 'not all bad', collectively I am ashamed of us and at times disgusted.

You see mass suicide as quite possible? 30 years ago I saw a cartoon that showed the finger of God pointing through a cloud and a voice asking a citizen of Curly Wee "Why didn't you save the earth?" The citizen responded: " It wasn't economically viable." The cartoonist was Michael Leunig. What an incredible truth in the form of humour. Jobs always come before environmental concerns.
How much fossil fuel do you think was burned to charge up all those mobile devices used by the protestors to livestream themselves on Facebook, Twitter, etc.?
Don't beat yourself up...you write very eloquently. You are waking up and your soul and heart are atrophied. You can change..Think and believe on the positive side. Humans will reconnect with GIAH. Hi Roger, you are spot on. The most powerful act is what you are doing on the internet. I wish to add that the major disruption is happening without us individually or collectively deciding it. Attending rallies, making news, being arrested, locked up, fined, taken through court or intimidated by police, secret private armies or regular armies that are now, I am told, beginning to use silent weapons on demonstrators, has caused small improvements but mostly it is fodder for media and giving the general public a feeling that some good is happening which they will, in some imagined and illusory future, refer to as "We the people."
As for non violent protests: It won't be acted on or remembered by the masses and it won't work fast enough to save society from its lemming like rush to self destruction. The insane person who shot and killed 50 people in NewZealand recently can now be said to have caused a change in the gun laws which campaigners failed to.
Personally, as a peace loving aging hippy disguised as a professional media person with a lot of experience at being on both sides of a news camera, I have to agree with Dr.Paul Ehrlich that it is the do gooders who have delayed the necessary crisis that will wake humanity up in time. Your analogy to protecting a child from it's risky behaviour is a good analogy. Keep on keeping on. I suspect It is a small group of super wealthy people who need educating. You are doing that very well. Thanks.

What we are confronted with, is what amounts to a multidimensional game of chess, where the stakes are the survival of the ecosphere, our entire civilization and ultimately our species itself.
Our leader's response to this challenge so far, has not even risen to the level of mastering a 2 dimensional game of checkers, we seem to be content with beating a mentally challenged strawman opponent, at an infantile game of tic tac toe!
So we need some one to shake things up by ripping up the sheets of paper and breaking the pencils employed in this tic tac toe charade!

Yes, we have to respectfully dialogue - if they are up for it, for people who feel we don't need such 'radical' action, we have to understand people's psychology, through knowing our own, through empathy... but this Movement might be the thing that TURNS it... but it needs to also Grow and grow, nationally and especially Internationally...

Eh www.skepticalscience.com is a good place to start. It does an excellent job at debunking common misconceptions whilst linking to the peer reviewed science. You’ll learn a lot from the answers.
I suggest you research only if you are prepared for very difficult news with a much shorter time frame than Extinction Rebellion outline. The imminent problem is worldwide reduction in crops for a growing population. 20 - 30 % food production in the Morthern hemisphere in 20 18. Check out the flood in the Midwest USA and the loss of food crops there. Other places:arctic news blog. paul beckwith. guy mcpherson (much maligned but simply puts the science together) check arctic sea ice loss. Insect population crash. Increasing wildfires. Ocean life collapse especially plankton. Good luck

XR have good inentions but the actual solutions are lacking, it will take something or somebody bigger and cleverer than this lot with a specific solution/innovation/technology transfer that will rise above the rhetoric.

Maybe solar minimum if that is what we might be in, that would only slightly mitigate the upward rise but no matter what is going on with our sun at any given moment, solar minimum or mass ejections and massive solar winds and flairs, this planet is headed towards the 6th mass extinction and it will happen faster than anyone can possibly prepare for. So there will be people who say, The northern polar ice cap is still partly there so it was all a lie? Sure keep telling yourself that.

It's just the sensitivity of farming, vs the time logistically it takes to relocate like agriculturally significant regions on a global scale. That physically but honestly I think economics will see it coming and crash out first . Really though what's the desired reaction? Rewrite energy policy they happily fight wars over ... ok . Use their weapons budget to geoengineer..... ok . Force inner city populations into farming work camps indoor, ocean, and outdoor, secure a stable food supply.... ok . But now I'm a nazi fascist antichrist

I don't think even you understand the severity of the issue. Your heart is in the right place but the horse has already bolted. There is no way out now, we're in trouble. Blocking roads won't help. The wheels of global warming are already in motion. Population and habitat loss are out of control and are the culprits. We are all to blame not just the governments, big businesses and rich people, it is all of us. We are all consuming pigs with little or no regard for our actions. Most people have never even considered their effects on our home planet. In the last 5 years (that have been the hottest since records began) we are beginning to see it with our eyes, this is the begin of the snowball effect. Now the ice caps are receding, the earth is more absorbent of heat from the sun, so we get hotter, quicker, methane is released that has a massively more green house effect than co2, this will be the next layer of the snow ball. There will be crop failure, drought, mass movement of people from effected areas, civil unrest, starvation, collapse of infrastructure, disease and war, It's going to get ugly folks.
