For your shift points, what you want to do is find out where peak HP and peak torque is made in the rev range. When you shift to the next gear, have it drop so that you are before peak torque, as that will get the car going faster, and shift just after peak HP. Keep it in those ranges and you're shifts will be spot on, right when you need them. No point over revving a motor after peak HP, and no point short shifting so early you're halfway down the torque curve. If you can show me a current graph of torque and HP, I can tell you where to start with the shift points, then tweak from there.

Contrary to all that, simple physics says you want to shift only when the current gears wheel torque falls below the corresponding next gear.
