  • The former Coke Ovens at Redcar Works; part of the now mothablled SSI Steel Works, and in its final months of demolition.
    Coke is a grey, hard, and porous fuel with a high carbon content and few impurities, made by heating coal or oil in the absence of air. It is an important industrial product, used mainly in iron ore smelting.

    I worked for Woodall Duckham in 1974-1976, building the By-Products plant, including the gas holder. Is all of this completely gone now?

      No.. Its still there, but the mechanical vultures are circling their prey.
