Hey Philip, you probably won't see this and even more probably it won't matter that much to you. But your videos like this help me a lot, and with a lot, I mean it. Recently my close partner left me and I felt nothing but a mix of regret, anxiety, anger, and sadness. I've been watching you for a long time now, and I just want to say thanks. Your videos make me het hope from life, even when everything is on fire, or the aftermath of one.
Life will get better! Don't shy away from seeking help from friends, family, or even better professional help. Hang in there man, read some good books, watch some good films, play some good games, remind yourself of the good things in life :))
@@kliksphilip "get busy keeping busy" is the best way to put the best advice. I haven't heard that in those words before but it's absolutely great advice. Working is a way to find positive support separate from intimate relationships, and something to merit yourself with to feel good at the end of a day. It distracts you, occupies your time, puts money in your pocket. Work is how to bounce back, keeping busy is the most important thing to do in times of misfortune.
Man, I remember that video diary of yours after you quit your accounting job or whatever that was. No clue why I subscribed to this channel back then, but I'm glad I did. How time flies.
You might see this as some kind of procrastination/throwaway video to put off working on your other two channels but, as someone who wants to make more videos and wants to start a routine of making them, this kind of behind-the-scenes video is incredibly enlightening.
I can't imagine how difficult it is to be self-employed. The amount of motivation needed to keep working day after day with no one there to help you or give you direction... I could never do it.
It has so many positives tho but fuck it's hard, I'm 20 and ever since I finished high school it has been so hard going to uni, studying, doing part time deliveries and doing what I love which is music. Juggling between all these "optional" tasks knowing that I can just sit and watch movies/TV series and play games is so haaard but way more rewarding. I still have a streak of 1-2-3 days in which I don't do any of my tasks and I feel awful. I hope I can get rid of that.
Its these little insights into your days that make me really want stuff like 5 minutes with Phillip back. It's a shame it wasn't successful. Best week of my life watching videos like that. I noticed another comment saying how seeing videos like this is really great and motivating and it's true. I am at the moment trying to improve the quality of my life and remove old bad habits and its motivating to see someone I highly respect have to go through the same thing. Your content is great and I hope you know that.
Hi, I'm hard of hearing (right ear is kinda broken). I really appreciate and use your captions, thank you for the time and effort on it Phillip. I recognize it may feel like you're doing it for no reason, but there are real people who use and are thankful for them. To be clear, I still can understand videos without captions. There is the occasional moment where I get confused about words here and there. Usually I do a sort of fill the gap game by predicting what word would make the most sense if I can't decipher it by itself. Good captions make it so much easier to understand, and focus on the video.
as a person with a normal hearing and English as second language, I relate hard to this need of caption, it's a huge improvement for the video experience
It's such a shame that RUclips 86'd the community contributions feature (and announced their plan to do so in Disability Month of all times!), because so many creators and viewers used and benefited from it. I'd love to sit down every now and then and caption a video, because I'm weird, and I find that kind of thing fun. But RUclips won't even let me do that anymore. It's really a damn shame.
@@digojez Yup. Announced it July 2020. I would honestly be surprised if they did that on purpose, but it still makes the burn sting just that bit more. Complete D move, like you say.
I will always love your little slice of life videos talking about how things are going for you. They make me feel less alone in my issues and problems.
As a non native speaker I am very very grateful for your subtitles. The timing on the automated subtitles are very weird and hard to follow. Thank you for doing that!
You're one of my favourite content creators. I absolutely appreciate the little details that you out into your work, like subtitled jokes, your music selection (that Op Flashpoint track is forever hilarious to me now), editing tricks and jokes, the insane dedication to having the highest level of software production value etc I hope you continue to make content, evolve and find motivations for your work. Thanks for years of high quality entertainment and here to even more years of it !
I've been doing my masters thesis and I completely understand what you mean about writing a script 'predicting' what you expect to find and then doing the research. I keeps me far more motivated and keeps me on task of whatever I'm doing, even if I then have to go change it later when the results don't meet my initial expectations.
It's an interesting balance between making your assumptions before doing the research explicit, and making sure you don't overlook findings that are fundamentally different to what you expected.
In my free time I try to hand-type captions as much as I can on my personal projects and I'm glad I'm not alone with how underappreciated they can be. Thanks for the great videos Philip.
7:18 Hey Philip, I use the subtitles you make because I think they're more accurate. And because English is not my first language it's hard to me understand British accent So I really appreciate your hard work subtitling your videos
I love all of the little details you add to your videos, the quality is so consistent and there's so much attention to detail each video seems so much more special than countless others I watch on RUclips. And to top it off we get to see some personal behind the scenes videos like this that just go the extra mile to show off the creative process and the high standards you hold yourself to that I personally find super enjoyable to watch
I kind of relate to your problem of looking back at the past and seeing how much has changed. That can be healthy sometimes, but you should always be very careful when doing that. It's too easy to only remember the good and hate the present as a result. When it happens, it's a very destructive thing and very hard to get out of. Time is one of those things where no matter what, you can't control it. So for me at least, I try to accept that and move on. Even if you don't know where your headed, you have to keep on walking forward. Not because it's easy or even because it's going to be worth it in the end, but because you have absolutely no other choice. For me at least, recognizing this has helped me at the very least be prepared for problems ahead or even be able to recognize them before they truly become problems. It's kind of hard to explain, but I hope this helped.
7:16 I never use the auto subtitles if the channel itself provides their own subtitles. Your subtitles are amazing, thank you. ...except for certain TV channels whose subtitles are word-by-word and lag behind by an intolerable amount of time because for some reason they couldn't be bothered to delay the footage a bit when broadcasting to give the typist some time, or to hire someone to make proper, synchronized subtitles for RUclips. (CNBC, for example. Some talk shows are also like that.) Those subtitles are actually worse than RUclips's auto subtitles.
Damn it! I can't believe that past 6 years since I followed you, and probably are people who are 10 years following you, scary, but you still impresees me with your stuff. Thanks for your content Philip, is amazing.
What I love about your content is your honesty and transparency - videos like these where you sort of go behind the scenes in a very frank way. It makes you all the more human in an increasingly commercialised RUclips.
I only use subtitles when I couldn't hear the audio otherwise (like when I'm brushing my teeth for example), but when I do I'm always super happy when there's hand written subtitles. The automatic ones are good enough most of the time but whenever it fucks up I have to rewind and hold my phone up to my ear 😅
@@kliksphilip Well, this is one of the reasons why I'm still watching your channel(s) after however many years. Your videos pack a lot of different ideas, information and personality, but above all else you manage to do it in a very direct and concise way.

These are my favourite videos which is ironic considering you say that you put the least effort into them. I enjoy your more heavily edited and produced videos too but these are the videos I rewatch over and over again
That Matt Smith quote always makes me feel at ease "We're all different people throughout our lives, and that's ok, that's good, so long as we remember all of the people that we used to be"
I had the same moment as you yesterday. Life has been hectic for a while, but around sunset I noticed the sun's rays halfway across the east wall of a room - a phenomenon that only happens around the summer solstice. So, happy 10 days till summer everyone. Great video!
Ive been learning some video editing and content creation as a hobby and hearing you talk about these things are actually pretty relatable, even on a micro level. The rendering thing is brutally true. Its cringy to watch myself in the raw cut, then in the edit, then in the final draft, then after the render. But it helps a lot.
These videos are always a nice reminder that self-structured, creative 'productivity' is a continually evolving struggle. The better you get at it, the more ways you find to make it hard for yourself.

I have been so busy lately that I've struggled to find the time to watch all of the youtube that I want to, and Im fighting with myself to watch less youtube than I ever have as I am realising more and more that although I enjoy watching youtube, the time feels hollow. But when I find the time to watch your videos, they don't feel hollow like a lot of the rest, it's not just meaningless noise and time wasting, genuinely thought provoking and make me think constructively about my own life, so cheers!
Interesting. My conscious feeling is that me as a consumer mostly want a thumbnail that makes it instantly clear that one of the many thumbnails are for one of your videos. Since you tend to make any topic quite interesting the most important thing is that the video is made by you. Anyways. Great video!
These are my favourite [sic] kinds of videos that you do - your openness and honesty always impress me, although not as much as your work ethic! Don't listen to the haters, we appreciate you Phil :) (also, thanks for always putting in the chapters, I appreciate it)
That technique of making everything up in a first pass, and then doing the research in a second pass, honestly sounds pretty genius, I'll have to try that out in some way at some point. I always struggle with researching stuff, and like to rather think and overthink everything on my own. So allowing me to simply do that, and fix all the nonsense I come up with afterwards, might actually be quite good.
Seeing you still making all of this stuff and being such a hard working person just to keep us informed and entertained makes me so happy and excited for the future. I've been enjoying your channels for years now, every video you put out is watched and appreciated for a reason man. Youre truly an incredibly talented legendary person Phillip. Thank you for all the content.
Hey Phillip! Just wanted to say thank you for the subtitles. They helped me a lot to learn English pronunciation and hearing. Being that I'm from Argentina, it was always difficult to have good opportunities to learn, given the fact that only one can go to a English lessons in some schools... But they aren't as good as hearing someone speaking it natively. So, your subtitles gave me the chance to get better at my hearing to a point, I don't really need them, but is always nice to see so I can continue learning how to: write, speak and hear. Is for that same reason, I always recommend your videos to my friends, so they can also learn and enjoy some good quality content. Thank you very much, Phillip :)
Thank you for still making the subtitles, as someone who doesnt speak english as a main language, i Love your high standard of subtitles, keep on the work!
I use subtitles on your videos every single time. Subs make it easier for me to watch content on my speakers while I'm eating etc. and I don't have to focus 100% of my attention to listening to your sweet, sweet voice. I also love when you sometimes hide easter eggs in subs.
English is not my first language, but thanks to seeing a lot of english content over the years i can say i comfortbly understand it with a level that im happy with, if it wasn't for interesting and engaging videos with accurate subtitles like yours i wouldn't had any reason nor tool to learn it and have fun at the same time. Thanks for all the content you make
I normally watch your videos without subtitles, but if I don't get something just by hearing it, I really appreciate the manual subtitles because in exactly the parts in which I need subtitles the automatically created ones are almost always wrong :)
Its been a while since u have talked about ur video making and documenting this is surely going to be a good investment, and a treat for us to see how u r doing
I always enjoy those videos where you reflect on your work and methods. They get me thinking on my own way of doing things. And glad to hear that you enjoy Better Call Saul. It's quite a fascinating show, and I am surprised not to hear about it more often.
I relate to a lot of your feelings, I also think I have changed a lot in the last few years. I embrace it positively because I believe change is a good thing. I'm a better person. Ka than then. ❤️
There's a subtle high pitched noise on the right channel at points in this video & it's driving me mad lol ...but that's besides the point. Really a thought-provoking and introspective subject in this one; I love this channel for exactly that sort of thing
I really enjoy watching your content. For some reason, I find it very different from what others produce and upload to youtube. I would best describe it as entertaining on a whole new level. You seem to be able to cover almost any topic and you always sound really passionate. And your humour is on par with mine, so that's a plus I guess. Anyway, keep it up, star!
As someone who has never left a comment on any of these things before i really appreciate the video chapters and subtitles, and well i most of the time i don't pick it the 4K option is nice to have for the more cinematic videos.
This video is relatable enough to my current masters issues I think your perspectives have just helped with my dissertation. Even though I have 5 years in academic education I still can't start or continue on the work for long. Thanks
As a rather young person, perspective is currently the opposite for me, things that I remember happening a year ago actual happened only a couple months back. You're really making me appreciate this.
Your content is varied and engaging, i know few bad comments can stick out and make you feel bad but i'm sure most of your viewers appreciate the effort you put in each and every video.
The beginning part about time and feeling like youve become a different person who forgot all the fond momories of your past self, ive been really feeling like that lately and its been really eating me up. Like ive forgotten who I was and what I loved, replaced by something im not sure I enjoy and a bit lost. Im amazed how closely you described what I am going through myself right now.
Even if you changed in a year your Hedonic Treadmill video from last year still gets me to actually do things instead of procrastinating, even if i am not a youtuber.
I miss 5 minutes with phil. You always have insightful things to say. Once a month would be a good release for that, give me something to look forward to.
your efforts with subtitles remind me of lifeofboris, more channels should bother with them as you do because it makes it so much easier to digest all of the information
I either watch your videos, or any video really, either or its own subtitles or with no subtitles at all! I feel like usually the google's transcript is as good as making out the words as I am.
At 5:24 when you said it seems weird that the videos you do that you write the whole script and guess what you’ll find actually makes a lot of sense. It’s just like making a hypothesis in an experiment which gets you more invested in the outcome because you’re curious if you’ll be right.
I'm kinda slow when it comes to actually completing certain tasks, and I've found it helpful for myself to set a specific, quantifiable goal for myself for the next day, then do it when I wake up. It's absolutely mind-blowing to me just how much more work I can get done, and how much more satisfied I am with myself for doing it. I nearly always do more than I intend to since I get stuck in, but that's the whole point of setting small goals that have definite end points, but leave room for more. I don't think the above advice really applies to you, though. It definitely sounds like you've already got a much more productive schedule in place.
I used to watch your videos with english subs back in the day. Nowdays, I watch them without subs because my english has improved a lot since I started watching your videos. In fact a day got a date with a british girl who worked here because I was "the only guy with a half decent english in this hell forsaken app" thanks to your videos. AAAaaand now we've been dating for four years and a half.

Thank you for writing subtitles for all of your videos. I've always used them but never really appreciated them until now.
I appreciate the hand-written subtitles alot. Watching the video is just waaay better with your subtitles. Please keep them if possible!
I love your hand-typed subtitles, so thanks for doing that thankless task!
I graduated from high school today and this really hit hard for me. Thank you for making this video. All my love. :)
Always really enjoy these kind of life and productivity update videos of yours!
I just had to say how nostalgic all your videos make me.
They remind me of all my long-gone friendships with all the people i met in csgo
Thanks for all the content you make
Phillip... I love your vids..thank you...my days are always passing so fast too...
thank you again, il never forget you for how much youve changed my life and many others
I normally watch your videos without subtitles, but if I don't get something just by hearing it, I really appreciate the manual subtitles because in exactly the parts in which I need subtitles the automatically created ones are almost always wrong :)
the speculative script is a brilliant idea
Its been a while since u have talked about ur video making and documenting this is surely going to be a good investment, and a treat for us to see how u r doing
I always enjoy those videos where you reflect on your work and methods. They get me thinking on my own way of doing things.
And glad to hear that you enjoy Better Call Saul. It's quite a fascinating show, and I am surprised not to hear about it more often.
I relate to a lot of your feelings, I also think I have changed a lot in the last few years. I embrace it positively because I believe change is a good thing. I'm a better person. Ka than then. ❤️
There's a subtle high pitched noise on the right channel at points in this video & it's driving me mad lol
...but that's besides the point. Really a thought-provoking and introspective subject in this one; I love this channel for exactly that sort of thing
your videos having actual subtitles allows me to watch your videos more often
I really like the subtitles! I always have them on because it is easier to watch 😊
This is also very useful for formal research. Thanks!
I just want to say that i love your subtitles and the jokes you sometimes Put in them are hilarious
Yes, videos from these channels appear everywhere when viewed a few times
Even if you changed in a year your Hedonic Treadmill video from last year still gets me to actually do things instead of procrastinating, even if i am not a youtuber.
This is why Philip is a great guy 👊🏻 thanks Philip for making videos 😎
I miss 5 minutes with phil. You always have insightful things to say. Once a month would be a good release for that, give me something to look forward to.
@@kliksphilip wow, is it really that much of a time commitment?
@@kliksphilip I see the problem. Quite unfortunate but thanks for explaining it!
your efforts with subtitles remind me of lifeofboris, more channels should bother with them as you do because it makes it so much easier to digest all of the information
Just commenting to let you know I use and appreciate the subtitles you type up, so that extra work you're going to isn't being lost to the void.
I think we're all just happy that you haven't stopped making videos yet, especially since the decline of views and impressions last year.
Keep up the good work
Bro, I just love your videos.
We went from Philip getting older to gold star days… wow.
the title is a formal way to say "modern problems require modern solutions"
You are great Philip!
Love these type of blogs from you
Quite inspiring! Also I definitely appreciate the subtitles!
I appreciate the hand-typed subtitles a lot and use them all the time! RUclips subs do not feel nearly as organic.
This really helped my sunday morning (in Brazil) keep going! Great stuff
Ps: Please, keep bothering with captions, non-native listeners like me are greatly helped by them.
God bless you Philip
Ah! Life of Boris and Mikeburnfire off the top of my head hold themselves to the subtitlic standard! That's like, three people on RUclips who are literally watchable.
I relate a lot to that time skip and identity stuff at the start, for me COVID caused a thing like in a movie where life went: “and here is what all the characters are doing 2 years later...”
And due to it happening at a big transition point for me (end of uni) this skip feels like a huge and discrete step in who and where I am
I love the weird amount of lore behind the kliks
Awesome video as always
big thanks for subtitles
I've started studying "LEAN manufacturing" and Operational Excellence theories for my work. It's about eliminating waste and optimising the production process. Give it a look, as there are probably more ways you can expand on the revisions you've already made.
