Have met some of the best friends I've ever known online (both online and in person), community is powerful. Congratulations to Mr. Hallease on your new job 🖤😁
There’s a Black, woman owned tea shop off the Beltline near Krog Street Market called Just Add Honey. If you’re trying to up your tea intake, they have TONS of options. It’s a whole adventure.
Hey Hallease, my A1C was high and it turns out it was partially due to being deficient in Vitamin D. Black people need more Vitamin D than white people to metabolize efficiently. Once I started taking Vitamin D regularly, my fasting blood sugar levels went down. (I literally was able to see it go down since I was fortunate enough to purchase a CGM to find out what was causing my high blood sugar levels) I Hope this helps you as much as it helped me.
How interesting! How long did it take for you to see the difference? I've had my blood work done and i'm not low vitamin D but it's something I do keep an eye on.
I got a Continuous Glucose Monitor to keep track of my blood sugar levels. The last month I had it, I noticed that my fasting glucose levels were in the low hundreds almost every morning for an entire month.I got some blood work done and found out I was severely deficient in Vitamin D. And literally the day after taking a Vitamin D3 supplement, my fasting blood sugar level was in the low 80s.
Finding a job that gives you the freedom to do more of what you want, is life-changing and empowering. Congrats to you both and nuff respect to the subscriber that reached out, you're a real one. And please please please, don't wait till something happens to go to the Dr or to get insurance. "An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure."
Thank you for reminding me of my health goals; I really fell off due to work. My goal is to do something active 4-5 days/wk (walk, aerobics, weight training, etc.)
Congrats on the job! Chile, I have been happily working away from the bedside for well over a decade now, no plan to return. Those utilization review and HEDIS jobs can save lives: your own! 😂
Man, I’m so happy he found something new! I suggested working at home as a nurse for the VA call center and when you responded, I replied with a website and some more information, but YT deleted my reply every time I tried to send it😒. Also, I enjoyed this conversation.
This was so informative. I would love to see a Healthcare Debunked series w/ Mr. Hallease spilling all the tea and pulling back the curtain so we can be better advocates for ourselves.
I love listening to yall. I have been trying to cut out sugars(slowly) and get back into working out five days a week. But I keep getting sick and have to adjust my priorities.
I’m a creative professional in the Atl area and burnout makes everything way worse. Mental health, dealing with the city, eventually your physical health. The stress trickles down on everything. I changed jobs to be in a less toxic environment and also started going to medical professionals regularly in the last few years. I try to advocate for my health and speak up more. I’m in my thirties and am trying to learn more about my family’s medical history as well. Exercising and eating better is great but also getting a handle on any health patterns will hopefully help me and my siblings in the long run. Congrats on the new job!
Chris, thank you for highlighting this “pills will fix it” treatment plan. It’s maddening to me. 🙁 Hallease, thank you for this podcast. ♥️ Congratulations on the new job!!!
My word of the year this year is discipline in terms of trying to lose some weight and exercise more. Whenever I waver I just remember the word DISCIPLINE and it reminds me of my intentions and it motivates me to stay on track.
This was such a fascinating conversation as a Canadian. Our system is far from perfect but I'm thankful I've never had to worry about what would happen in an emergency. Sounds pretty wild over there
Great video! I am a Hedis nurse and looking to see more nurses make videos on their experiences. Hope you think about making some videos. Thank you, keep up the good work.
Loved this episode. The past 5 months I have been walking 3 miles a day. We moved to an area that I can do a lot of walking after my husband had a health scare. We're truck drivers so it's extremely hard trying to get a workout when we drive from ATL to California weekly. OMAD definitely helps and cutting my sugar intake, but honestly the walking is such a vibe for mental health and movement. I also started content creating finally! LOL
I hope you do more episodes about your experiences in Atlanta. We certainly don't need to know all of your business, but adding more of a lifestyle element would be great just to see how other folks navigate the city and building community. There's so much to Atlanta and the surrounding cities that it can seem daunting. I've been here for years, and I recently realized how much I've hidden my head in the sand, socially speaking. One of my close friends is moving to Atlanta and it will be interesting to see how she deals with life here. LOL
Great podcast! And congrats on the new job Mr. Hallease! I actually just recently made the decision to take steps to exercise more regularly and make an appointment with a primary care doctor. I haven't been to one in years!
This was a great episode, helpful and informative. Really enjoyed it from beginning to end. Made me once again assess my own healthcare situation. Been feeling unsure about changing providers. I need to advocate for myself. Knowing that I deserve to be actively listened to instead of being provided with bare minimum service, not addressing the needs that I’m vocalizing.
@@hallease there aren’t brands of policies, there are types of policies. Just trying to be helpful because I worked in the industry for a long long time 😊 very long time 😊
Feeling called out bc I'm also a young black woman that just got blood work that said I'm just above a certain line that puts me into prediabetic 😭 I am trying to consume less sugar and be more active but I've definitely fallen off the bandwagon in recent weeks...
7:08 I’m at this point, but I actively doing HEDIS right now!😂 (and passively listening/watching RUclips) 😅I work with all the measures but I’m on a batch for the CCS measure. Done HEDIS for 9 yrs work from home. Best set up ever. Pays well to as a nurse away from the bedside.
So this isn't the answer to the question you guys posed but I really related to what Chris said about nursing at the end of this video. I'm not a nurse, but I am a teacher and there really does seem to be a lot of overlap in the two professions.
this was great. I had cataract surgery last year 1st hospital gave me a prescription for aftercare eyedrops-it cost me $99 with a discount. SECOND eye, second hospital provided the after care eyedrops and tried to charge me $1200-when I complained to Meidicare, which BTW will pay for cataract surgery- but NOT the medicine for your eyes afterward, informed me, not in a nasty way, but just a stating the FACTS way, that the HOSPITAL can charge WHATEVER they want. And NO I did not and will not pay them.
I’m trying to bring down my A1C, which is prediabetic. I do 30 minutes of cardio 30 minutes a day for 3 days a week and walk for an hour in Chastain park twice a week. I’ve eliminated all carbs. I only eat tuna, almonds, walnuts, arugula , carrots, salmon, Kimchee, peppers, etc. I try to only eat 1000-1200 a day, and I fast two days a week. I also intermittent fast, eating within an 8-9 window.
I too am starting to experiment more with intermittent fasting to see if that'll help me drop my A1C the last bit and I'm noticing that overall I feel better which is wild! We'll see how it goes. It sounds like you're on a solid path though!
Me being a Claims Specialist at a large Hospital System in Chicago for the past 10 years. Yeah our countries health care/insurance system is trash for a developed nation. Our politicians only care about lining their pockets. He is absolutely right about the non-profit hospitals they barely see/accept patients with Medicaid. The way hospitals/providers treat Medicaid patients is so gross. I've seen first hand with my family members who have Medicaid. Also this country doesn't prioritize preventive medicine like they should we only focus on fixing issues once it gets life threatening. Also a lot of screening process for illnesses are out of date and need to be updated with more current studies and statistics.(Chadwick Boseman being diagnosed in his 30s with colon cancer and the screening age is 45 to 75). Our health care system needs a serious overhaul.
