John, you are very welcome and thank you for giving me a Super Thanks. 🙏 I really appreciate it, and please let me know if you have any more questions about it.
I learned the hard way that you can’t use a lot of pressure like you mentioned. The thread is hard to move/pack after. Doing this for something like a diamond wrap makes finish difficult to apply as well. At least for me. Basically you touched on all the things I learned the hard way. Great video and info. Thanks for yet another informative video John! Those are some lucky dowels! 😂
working on one right now, should I put on a coat of color preserver before wrapping with my thread to help hold down the dragon scale thread? thanks for all of your videos!
hey man. Got a technical question for you. So i have built close to 15 rods now and this hasn't happened so I'm confused and don't know how to proceed. I completed probably my best rod yet this past Sun, put it on the dryer and let it spin for another day. I turned it off Monday evening and just let it sit there until last night. So basically 4 days later in a controlled environment. My epoxy is still tacky! Its no where near dry. In fact it left a dang finger print. Im just really confused right now. I have always used Flex coat and im not sure if i added enough harder or what??? What are my options here in your professional opinion??? I epoxy alot on the rod. Do you think i can mix some more and add on top and make 100% sure the mixture is correct? Maybe just add a light coat of hardener on top?
Wow…that is unfortunate, and my first thought is that you didn’t get an equal mixture when preparing the finish. Is the temperature controlled in the room?
@@reelbluecustomrods yes. I'm just assuming that either i didnt mix correctly or something was wrong with the hardener? I mixed a new batch up yesterday and put another coat on it. Hopefully it will harden?
@@reelbluecustomrods will do. i will know as soon as i get home today. been spinning since 4pm yesterday. So it should be dry enough for me to touch and it not be tacky.
Thanks!

Thanks John I may do a little experimenting with that to see if that eliminates the fuzzies that I seem to get sometimes with the mesh tape
Sounds great 🦆 and be sure to let me know how it turns out. As always, thanks for watching and commenting.

Thank you Scott for the great feedback. Always appreciate your support.
Great video I was always nervous about doing a dragon scale. This is a great starting point
Thank you, and hopefully you will try it out soon. Thanks again for watching and commenting EBF.
I've never tried it this way. I always used mesh tape. This method has a more clean diamond look I like it.
I am a fan of mesh tape as well, but this method does come in handy. Thank you for watching and commenting.

No need to do that Ralph unless you want to. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Should i assume that i need to rough up the rod blank finish so the thread doesnt slip around during the wrapping process?
No….
