Good video but I notice in many of your videos you dont take advantage of the thread angle in order to keep the thread tight against the wrap. Most rod builders will place the thread at an angle that forces the thread wrap to stay tight. You seem to use the opposite angle that create a lot of space between your thread and your wrap. Forcing you to constantly keep using a fingernail or tool to keep the wrap tight. Not saying it’s wrong but it’s very different to most other people. Regardless, you get results and your wraps look good. Cheers.
I ordered this finish and I wanted to know what you think of this resin. How is the resin holding up? I plan to use it as a high build so the thickness is ok. I am still waiting for it from get it. Thanks
John, have you ever used the hitena thread to wrap your guides especially on what I build musky, crappie bluegill, walleye and my favorite bass rods
Blue and gray mixed together that looks really awesome. I’ll have to try that.
The blue looks awesome
Another excellent video! I need to see if my brother has some landing nets he needs dressed up.
@@MrJarheadeod - thank you so much h and I’m glad you thought so. Thanks for watching and commenting as well.
Looks good. That green is impressive
Can you gold leaf a wrap using drywall tape? I was thinking of using it as an under wrap for my double foot guides. How would it come out? Is the spacing of the grid pattern to small in the tape? Let me know. Thanks.
@@wadetakemoto4554 - yes Wade, I wouldn’t use mesh tape with gold leaf.
@ ok thanks for the info. Maybe I will use the SAMSFX thread as the under wrap w the joint tape. Looks almost like the dragon wrap you did with the gold leaf
@@wadetakemoto4554 - sounds like a plan and feel free to let me know how it turns out.
@ ok I will let you know how it comes out. Cant seem to find the gold leaf foil you used. I search it but does not allow me to order it. I just ordered the JINRUISI brand instead. 🤷🏾♂️

What size threads do you use for over lay? Are they both the same size? Are smaller diameter sizes better for ease of packing? Maybe you have a videos. I'm new and having trouble with one. Love your videos.

Thanks for this! I heard an old timer once talk about soaking his decals in warm water before applying. Do you know anything about this method?
@@87_North - yes I do. That is the same method of adding decals in model airplanes and cars.
Very good educational information
@@jamesdoyle5318 - Thank you so much James, and thank you again for watching and commenting.
How do you like this finish? I currently use gen4 I'm thinking about switching.

hey question...i would put the ferrule on first and line it up with the spine of the rod and then put the foregrip on then guides etc. looks like you might have done the reverse. any reason on doing the ferrule last?
@@NaiDiGuy - great question and I always add the ferrule last. This makes sure I have the ferrule lined up correctly with the guides. Easier to do it that way. Thank you for watching and commenting.

John, I’m just curious you mentioned that you didn’t prep the feet but your thread walked up on that foot like it was made to what would you have done different?
@@DavidHorvath-nf3vf - nothing really Dave. Filling feet help give a lower profile look to the finished product, but it really comes down to preference. I do some prep work though if the feet don’t come from the manufacturer cleaned and smooth.

Seems like many extra steps for naught. When you identify the spine and mark it, while bent, roll it 180 degrees mark again, done.
@@bigdoggstatus99 - you are correct, that is a very easy and quick way to do it for an 80% solution - which is how I do it a majority of the time. However, I thought someone would be interested in learning how to find the exact 180 from the spine. Thank you for watching and commenting.
@reelbluecustomrods gotchya, thanks!
This video brought to you by Pro-Paste! My man buys a $100 reel seat and handle combo to save weight....adds 1.2 pounds of Pro-Paste! I bet you put Pro-Paste on the lids of your Pro-Paste! Otherwise, great build. Love these by AT.
Salmon, Mahi, Striper, Snook, etc. Probably most saltwater fish that stay shallow or visit the surface.
