I have 04 Silverado 4x4 with 3/4 drop with DJM kit ( control arm/shackle). I bought new, modified it within 2 weeks and my neighbor never know it was 4x4. First deep snow day of their surprised look was price less. I never go off-road by the way, but looks and handles much better that couldn’t be happier.
I have a 2001 chevy stepside with 22 inch snowflakes, with a 6-4 drop and it is also 4x4. I hear it all the time that I ruined the truck. But to each there own. Love the truck man
Did the same to my NBS Z71, but I didn't have to use the keys, I just backed mine off a ways. Next is a flip with a notch and the 2 inch spindles. Do it!!
YES!!!! I never thought I would own a lowered Chevy truck because I was always going the other way to drive over stuff. After getting a 2004 Silverado with a big block lowered, I'm now a believer you can have a truck and go fast around a corner too.
No complaints doing a 2/3 drop on my Ram 4wd. I’ve done the lifted route before, and I hardly ever even use 4wd, so it’s pretty pointless for me. Plenty of other mall crawlers around that can get the attention they want.
Just did this same job on mine a coue weeks ago. And the truck came from Idaho... I did it with the bed still on because I knew it would be an endless can of worms trying to remove it. A very violent and nasty job, but man it was worth it!
What I did with my suburban was crank the torsion bars up front. Drop the rear about 2 inches and threw 33s on it. Sits perfectly level and looks perfect
If anyone thinks you ruined it by lowering it, they can go watch whistlin diesel or something.. Its perfect and I cant wait to see the finished product!!!!!
I did a set of lift shackles on my 04 Colorado a number of years ago and I had the same issue. What a pita! I wasn’t expecting it to be that big of a pain and the truck was only 5 years old at the time. And yes, the older I get the less i find I actually need a lifted truck. Just can’t justify it since I don’t go off road and don’t have access to trails.
I lowered my old OBS Yukon Denali with drop keys and shackles. Looked killer on newer 17” Denali rims! Also lowered my 4wd Avalanche by turning the keys down and drop coil springs with shock extenders. Looked great on 20” NBS rims! I love lowered 4wds!
I think it looks good, can’t wait to see the finished product, I watched the AWD swap on the 88 Chevrolet K1500 that you lowered on truck tech and I know what you are capable of my friend, keep up the good work LT.
My factory 01' S-10 4×4 sits lower than a factory 2rwd S-10. Bought it new in Alaska and it handled the winter roads very well, other than the dad-blamed digits out there ! Most dirt roads .... No problem ! Deep snow........ Time for a toddy with a hotty !
10 years ago I did a 2/3 drop on my 2003 Z71 Tahoe with a pretty warmed up LQ4 and 305/50R20s. Never regretted it. As a matter of fact, every time I am in a stock height Tahoe, I am reminded how much of an improvement in handling I gained. Sure, we lift a lot of them too. But for the majority that never need their height, the only argument left is personal taste.
i actually liked your project Redtide when you did that truck a while back. i would love to build an AWD shop truck/ winter beater like this one! Awesome, can't wait to see more!
I know this is old but I have used my ball joint press to remove the bolts when you can get to them. I had a 98 S10 blazer in Wisconsin that I lifted and it worked well.
Full race truck it, cut the bed for sstep notch and give her the boost, 4wd trucks like this are awesome lowered and boosted. Don’t worry about uniqueness just do what it wants.
You got me scratching at it again! my 97' 4 wheel drive extra cab is in great shape .I've had it for 20 years . I want to lower it, all due to my dog has a hard time getting in, it she's getting old.I do like that look... people don't understand thank you LT
I say lift/level the 2500 & 3500s, lower/level the 1500s in the GMT800 platform, just my opinion. I like every body style lowered or lifted in the GMT400 platform tho, they all look great!
Looks great to me. When you guys did the low red OBS truck, I was motivated to do one for myself. Haven't found the right truck yet, but I keep looking, and it will happen. Not so concerned about AWD, just a nice stance that still allows for winter traction. Thanks for sharing this one with us. And hello from North Idaho!
I pray that one day, that you do a segment/video/tech talk on upgrading OBS-GMT400 Brake upgrade/swap and or using converting GMT800,900 brake components. As an OBS owner (1995 c1500 single stepside Show Trucks USA/Mark 3 variation) the brakes just plan suck, some companies like Pro Performance sells a kit that beats up peoples wallets, but there has to alternatives out, and the fact that you know your way around these platforms and your skill set makes all of OBS folks wonder what you would have to say.. Not to many other companies focused on the GMT400 which is sad, alot them are still on the road to this very day, some modded or still plain ole fashion original! Love the content, this truck reminds me of the 1 you lowered on the show and made the custom mount for. BTW Congrats on breaking 55k subs, next stop 100k! Stay safe, and as always thanks for sharing your work!
If you're ever doing another one of these with rusted bolts, throw an impact on the bolt to spin it loose and then pound it out, slid right out when I did mine.👍
Lift blocks depended on your engine, transmission and tow package. If you got a 2005 with the 4.8, econo rear end, and tow package plus regular cab short bed it won’t come with blocks but if you kept the 5.3 that came with the tow package it would even with the econo rear gears!
Good time to upgrade the guel pump. That spring job brings back nightmares of working on fed ex Grumman chassis in Northern mn. After 2k sets of leaf packs. Yes I kept count. I got it down to 3/4 an hour and the wheels never left the God forsaken thing. Good job
I think lowering a 4x4 pickup is fine. Not necessarily "slammed" but if you are working out of one and DD it, I think lowering is a fantastic quality of life thing. The "cool" lifted trucks that guys use for work are absolutely awful to drag tools out of every single day. They suck to jump into and out of doing normal daily stuff. Lifted trucks are form over function for me. Stock to slightly lowered is great for people who want a nice daily driver/working pickup (baring heavy towing of course). Just found your channel and I love it.
Looks awesome!! Happy you're making this content. I have a 96 4x4 rcsb that will come down some day and thanks to your videos its less of a mystery of how to do it!
so a trick I came up with cause I'm originally from upstate NY so rust country. we had ones that were stuck way worse and you couldn't pull a bed because it might not be able to go back on if you did. I would heat both sides of the bolt red hot with the torches which expands the bolt and the sleeve inside the bushing has a split so it allows some expansion. that would start to break the rust free then I would use my impact in both directions as it cooled back and forth and sometimes they would come loose with just that but the really stuck ones required the impact on the head and an air hammer on the other side simultaneously. so that trick works best if you are removing the spring cause you can get the shackle to frame bolt and the front spring to frame bolt then extract the shackle to spring bolt on the floor with a wet wash cloth to cool the rubber bushing if you needed to reuse it. I used to watch guys fight with those for an entire day and I would have it out in a couple hours.
Like I've mentioned o DDSS RUclips . It's your truck, you can do whatever you want to it. Unlike the 408 Ford truck. Lowered trucks are cool, lifted trucks are cool. 408 trucks are cool.
I appreciate you making this video, I recently bought a 01 z71 in immaculate condition, thought about selling it and making a profit because I hate the high stance on it, but now watching this video I think I’m gonna keep it , lower it down and get the right wheels put on it, maybe throw a turbo on it on down the road.
Axle flip kit rear. And torsion key/ spindle hub assembly up front and there was some sort of cradle that'd raise the front axle in the cradle some too. Maybe GMT400 only
I agree even my 03 2wd Silverado 2500hd rclb sits like a lifted 1500 4x4 pickup and now after a 3” lower kit all around it sits like a 1500 2wd stock and the rear still sits 5” above the tire the front is 3” above the tire.
You know what else was lowered? GMC Syclone. PLEASE do an AWD conversion and turbo the 4.8 as a Syclone homage, very fitting for a short bed black truck.
I have the Sierra twin of yours. Mines a 03 z71 turbo 5.3 slammed and lowered 4/6 I drag race it. Leave line in 4wd and switch off once I have traction. And I still have A/C. I love our trucks. Although the 03-06 cat eye stepsides look awful.
Looks good. I look forward to seeing it lower. Just lowered my 2wd 04 ext cab with hotchkis coils and belltech leafs. Definitely do a flip kit or hangers on the rear of this truck. I ran the belltech drop leafs on my previous standard cab stepside truck and they were WAY to stiff. The 20" snowflakes will look good, just got them for my truck as well. Yep everyone has them, but I still like them.
Don't mind the lowered look at all, but I think it looked better before. If you're going to do it do it all the way, like some of the other examples you shared.
I'm a fan of lowering a 4x4 truck. I've found interest in pursuing ideas of proper AWD trucks. Easier to start a low AWD project with a factory 4WD truck and swap transfer cases out. Much like you guys did on Project Redtide from Power Nation. I suggest swapping the stock case for a NV149 and doing the front axle swap for proper AWD. Clone Redtide basically.
There is a company called atomic fab to convert the front end to a coil over so you can ditch the torsion bars and that cross member so you can also drop the trans and the t case as one instead of separately
On to the power mods! Looking forward to seeing engine upgrades. Cammotion is what I use. You should reach out to them. Great staff and very high quality camshafts.
Full disclosure, I’m a low lifted 4x4 ( just for tire clearance) guy who lives in Louisiana and hunts in really muddy areas constantly. I’m great with a lowered street 4x4 truck BUT it should be AWD and have enough engine to need all four tires pulling! Look out drag strip and auto cross…
I would have left the front up cause I've noticed on Chevy trucks the steering gets easier if the rears lower and also for the weight transfer, but not my truck. I'm sure you're probably in an HOA community but I would have beat those shackle bolts on the inside with an air hammer dropping the spare and those bolts might have come out without removing the bed. But good work LT.
So jealous. Here in the Ohio rust belt, you'd be a couple hours cutting bed bolts and using the torch on the trailer hitch. All while taking a rust bath underneath the thing.
Looks Awesome! Hopefully someday I will be able to add a lowered 4X4 or AWD truck to my fleet or possibly modify my 69 C10 to a low 4X4 or AWD. As always another great video & thank you for sharing.
I lowered a 2019 (TRIAL BOSS) Z71 package, mind the name TRIAL BOSS it’s so funny riding around town getting dirty looks but hey it’s my build my truck 🤷🏽♂️
What do you think of the stance, should we go lower?
If it was my truck and I won the lotto it would be a lowered pre runner 💯
You going too c notch the frame?
Low enough i think. Of course i would have left it the way it was. But cool video!
I absolutely loved redtide and 03-05 awd silverado ss is one of my favorite trucks of all time so go just a little bit lower!
Curious why not a spring over in the rear..would have been about 5"lower and wouldn't have to mess with shackles until later with front spindles
ruined? made it even better cuhh
Lowering 4x4 GM trucks has long been your specialty. I wasn’t fooled by the video title!
i hate people that say this is ruining a truck this makes the truck fun, sporty, clean, better performance, and more potential
Step sides look killer lowered. Now, add mad power, and with some AWD action......awe yiss a street fighter for sure
I have 04 Silverado 4x4 with 3/4 drop with DJM kit ( control arm/shackle). I bought new, modified it within 2 weeks and my neighbor never know it was 4x4. Did the same to my NBS Z71, but I didn't have to use the keys, I just backed mine off a ways. Next is a flip with a notch and the 2 inch spindles. Do it!!
I’m so glad my truck is an all original Texas truck. Second owner from 2012 and working on it is a breeze. Never have to deal with rust issues
luckily this one is pretty solid, but those shackles gave me a workout
YES!!!! I never thought I would own a lowered Chevy truck because I was always going the other way to drive over stuff. After getting a 2004 Silverado with a big block lowered, I'm now a believer you can have a truck and go fast around a corner too.

Livin in the Rockies, your street truck really should be 4WD. You done it right!
Can’t wait to drive it in the snow

I like what you did with the red truck on power nation. So you don't offend me lowering a four wheel drive.
That was a fun truck
What I did with my suburban was crank the torsion bars up front. Drop the rear about 2 inches and threw 33s on it. Sits perfectly level and looks perfect
that works pretty good!

Its perfect just as it is, its still a functional 4X4 for snow and rain and towing and looks great.
I think it looks better lowered. Everything still functions to tow. Just a little less ground clearance.
exactly!
Looks great
Screw the haters, build YOUR build brother. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

You did the right thing I lower all my trucks I’m doing my 2012 Chevy Silverado single cab 4wd long bed

Love it. I would go lower cuz that’s what I’m doing to my 2002 and I’m going to put a Denali t case in her.
I’m gonna wreck my 91 gmc 4x4 like you guys did with red tide. It will have an LS tho. And it’s gonna be a MANUAL!
That’s a great combo.
I just got done lowering my tahoe. You didn't ruin it. Just made it better...
I'm with you with the lowering LT.
Drop it like it's hot!
I've been wanting a chevy project truck for a long time...this just made my decision that much harder for what I want to go with!
Yes 😍 I have a 12 shortwide Sierra 4WD on 4/6 drop an love it
So much better Can’t wait to see it lower
Your pickup and use determine direction
4X4 up or down = primary purpose
Dropped for highway hailing stability
Lifted for off road
yep, most of us would do the same process but to lift It, but I can tell It looks good
Full race truck it, cut the bed for sstep notch and give her the boost, 4wd trucks like this are awesome lowered and boosted. Don’t worry about uniqueness just do what it wants.

I actually have all the parts to do a GMT800 brake swap on my K2500 suburban...
As always great fun to watch. Put me down for liking the lowering of the truck. I enjoyed your Power Nation episodes of lowering the red truck.
Thanks! That was a fun one
Love that you lowered it. Much better!!
I lowered my 10th gen f150 2" and it looks killer and I plan on fixing the 4x4 soon
Stance is great, I prefer the period-correct 16" wheels, but hey - it's your truck!
If you're ever doing another one of these with rusted bolts, throw an impact on the bolt to spin it loose and then pound it out, slid right out when I did mine.👍
Works great on control arm bolts too!
Red tide was a very good-looking setup after you was finished with it
Love the factory 20” snowflake wheels. Gonna look good!
22", 20's are the honeycomb
Crazy how much this guy can do in his own , I remember it took like 3 or 4 of us to put on a bed on a 60’s Ford 😂

@@LawrenceTolman yeah. It was a good 3 yrs of life till,
Sprinter front springs and trammys.

This is awesome, im building a 4x4 single cab, although lifted to be able to 4wd launch at the strip on nitrous so this should be a fun series 🙏
I need one of these for my Minnesota winter commutes.
Looks like a good amount of people approve the drop. I like it as well! It's gonna be fun with some big power and AWD. Keep making these great videos.
Oh man lt I would have had to clean the frame up and painted the frame
I’d like to have the whole thing powder coated at some point
Love this type of GM truck content. Keep up the great work bud!!
You know what else was lowered? GMC Syclone. PLEASE do an AWD conversion and turbo the 4.8 as a Syclone homage, very fitting for a short bed black truck.
you're on the right track for sure
Macgaughys can fit 16s.they move the Lower ball joint up on the stock control arm and give you that clearance. You need the ball joint spacer though
Looks great. The stance right now is what I would do.
I like your style sir. I lowered mine for free!
This is awesome. I’ve been wanting to do this to my 89 step side every since I seen you guys do this back in the day. Maybe I should RUclips it !
I can't believe the torque bars came out of the keys that easy. In Minnesota you would of never that that lol
I’m looking at doing this to the exact same truck. Thanks for the video

I think thats kinda the plan eventually
I'd like to see u pull the drive train from an escalade, 6.2 awd and 4l85e... with it lowered... I think it would be a rocket
exactly what I am hoping for as well
You could've used the same u bolts ,if you put the block you took on top. It sets pretty firm since it has a hole to guide it. That's how i did mine
not a bad idea
I think there was a missed opportunity here for some prank photos of it in squatted stance. 🤣
Can’t wait to see what’s next for the lil’ truck!
I posted a quick pic of it with the back done only, but it wasn’t quite drastic enough
