A lot of great comments about the pronunciation of Scylla! - However - I have a challenge - I am really interested in the Ancient Greek pronunciation of Scylla, not the modern Greek. and theres conflicting sources! Any ideas linguists?
Full transparency, i am not a history/literacy expert, and this is only coming from a good chunk of online research. However, I believe the correct Ancient Greek pronunciation is "skill-uh". Most Greek words used in modern day english retain the spelling they had when translated into latin by the Romans, and in Latin the C sounds like a K (this is why there is debate on the pronunciation of Caesar, with "kai-sar" being the most likely original, correct pronunciation, and "see-zar" being the Anglicized version). So the original spelling of Scylla (if you were to translate that original word directly to english) is actually Skylla. Meaning the pronounciation "skill-uh", as opposed to the commonly accepted modern "sill-uh". Something similar is found in the word Cerberus, which is widely pronounced as 'ser-ber-us' but was originally care-bear-oos. I like to think that i've used reputable sources to gather this information, however given that pronunciation is even debated amongst experts in the field (Latin being a dead language certainly doesn't help the confusion), some of this could be incorrect, but hopefully i've helped a bit!
given its the far future and pronunciations are what they are you pronunciation would work, its not like other words are just put in pronounced exactly the same
The comments are pretty right, but maybe forget that "y" in Ancient Greek is upsilon, a "u", and is actually pronounced like the modern French "u" An English speaker can try to replicate it by saying "ee" with puckered lips leaving only a small hole So theres no correct way with modern English sounds, but you can still try My source btw is learning Ancient Greek language in school and using google to reverify lol
Oh also not sure what youre going for with Legio but if youre going for classical latin, I believe the "e" wouldn't be "ee" but more of a "eh" like the "e" in "hehe" I guess, or like the "ay" in "say" but short, and the "g" wouldn't be softene. I think its pretty similar if youre going for ancient greek. sorry for saying so much lol but yeah Ancient Greek was a very musical language, not as "cool" as English but its a style Oh and of course those are big languages with a lot of history so there was a lot of variation at the time but these are usually the standard mostly accepted ways, like "how they were pronounced in Athens in the 5th" more so than "Ancient Greek" lol
The legio scylla color scheme looks so beautiful, maybe its just because I love the colors used, but the tentacles around it look amazing! Imagining a fully sized titan painted like that is awesome.
You have nothing to worry about. I'm a student and I haven't slept all night. It's currently 11 am and I'll probebely end up sleeping at about 3pm haha
YES!!! JUST YES!!! Legion Scylla lore/inspiration... Awesome Titanfall inspiration... Awesome... This is Warhammer for me. Painting out my inspiration on little plastic models...
A little suggestion, if you guys see it. I'd suggest for the legio the name "Scyllaikos"- of Scylla, rather than just her name. Maybe also written in greek script Otherwise this is really cool and promising and would love a to see full scale titan Also if anyone actually speeks Greek, feel free to correct me if i wrote or cunjugated it wrong.
Great video, absolutely love the paint scheme of the legio Scylla titan. Having studied classics for a few years and having to hear that name so many times i have to throw in that its pronounced Sill-uh. Absolutely love the idea of taking inspiration from greek myths for warhammer, definitely going to explore that myself
Definitely very cool! I was thinking Legio Thalassa or maybe calling it the Thalassotitan. But I think Scylla is much better. Would be awesome to do another called Charybdis with whirlpool iconography
The space marines on the base really helps sell the cheer scale of a titan, Love it! And then seeing the reaver towering over the warhound… makes me hyped like a little kid!
Scylla is such a good choice seeing how utterly terrifying she was in the myths, and the fact that no Greek Hero ever defeated her (to my knowledge). I love a good nautical color scheme.
Definitely like the homebrew! I would be interested in a post "The Scouring" version of Scylla. Murray's paint job was awesome as always, but Dave's free hand was something else. Really impressive.
I am really impressed how they both turned out... Good work guys. Having been in the miniature Paint world for some time now, it is refreshing to see the way you both paint. The fact it is not perfect brush strokes and three years later to finish a project is refreshing and I like that you can be a bit sloppy but have outstanding end results I hope give many confidence to paint and enjoy the hobby, I am appreciative of that. So thanks for keeping it real and show casing the process, I think it will help others who may worry about their work or keep them from jumping into the hobby because they fear criticism.
A few weeks ago you mentioned you felt like you never got to show off your skills but dang there was some really good technics on this one. Very impressed!
I love it when you make your own version of something, that's usually what inspires me the most. I'm not a fan of messing with homebrew rules too much, but homebrew colorschemes, lore, and chapters is always fantastic in my opinion.
Scylla is pronounced "Sill-uh". The C is soft/silent; there are plenty of examples across youtube/the internet of how to say it, but If Sky-lar is what you have named the Legio now, it's your hobby. Cool scheme. Love the freehand.
A suggestion for the heraldry for Murray's Legio Gravitas.. I think it'd be cool if you implemented an animal or creature that is either in the sky or space that could give the meteor aspect a fun pivot. Titans can be characters too so maybe one just embraced the sky a bit more and used it as inspiration for the art like a war plane with the big shark mouth 😅 idk just an idea
Wow perfect timing! I am building both of these mini titans and just finished the body of my Reaver Titan today. This video is fantastic inspiration for my build.
Wow these Titans are beautiful! I really linked the extra small marines running around at the feat! I'm going to steal that if I can with my warhound as well.
Dude! That legit skylla colour scheme is absolutely beautiful! Please please do go full 40K scale. Murray’s under cost is like a perfect rust with some silver stippled on…
Really love the content! The myth of Scylla is set in the Strait of Messina, between Sicily and Calabria - Italy, so as an Italian I can only appreciate it! If you want to delve deeper into Greek myth you could also check Charybdis, the second monster/guardian of the Strait of Messina. For Greek pronunciation I think you are on the right track. For culture, in Italian it sounds more like SHE-lla than SKI-la Side note: if you want to hear something really punchy I would recommend the song "Torn between Scylla an Charybdis" by Trivium. Enjoy
I realy like Murray's (hope I didn't spell it wrong) weapon choises. It's realy a titan for all engagement ranges. Far: Volcano, medium Turbo Laser (Logicaly a Volcano needs less energy at closer ranges), Close Disconect the Volcano and energise the power fist... Looks realy efective to me :)
Well, if you want a more accurate term for abyss you could use something like "Profundus" which is a term used for a void or an abyss. We also get the term predator from the word "Praedator" which would be a marauder or a raider of some sort.
"Sill" "ah" if it helps, although "Skill" "ah" is also used, but I've used all three before and people know who I mean. 32 millennia between it being written and the 'present' makes it a moot point.
Every video you do for Epic scaled things I will be requesting you get some of the old Daemon Primarch minis. Keep up the great work, and get some little Primarchs!
Hey Dave, I’ve recently come back from a painting break (which also meant I haven’t been consuming any painting content)… I wanted to tell you that your painting game has levelled up SO much since you and the team started TTT! In the last few vids your freehand and blends have been top notch. Keep up the great work! I also thought of Inkmarr Alpha as a name for one of the titans (to combine some of your inspirations into your Legio Scylla legion)… just a thought! Thanks, as always for sharing.
In Scylla it's a soft 'c' and 'y' sounds the same as the 'i' in the Knights who say 'Ni'. So literally the last way you said it at the end of the video.
I can’t express enough my appreciation for your support for Legions Imperialis! It’s such an awesome game I look forward to every quality upload for you guys :)
It's a shame games workshop doesn't feel the same way. I'm going to address it in the next video. I own a game store, we've never been sent stock ordered, nobody within 50 miles can get a single product. Hype is dying because nobody can access the game, it's a shame
I'm Italian but as the legend is from Magna Grecia as in the part of greek colonies around the mediterranean sea, the pronunciation that I've grow up with is Sheella.
Dave's pronunciation of Scylla is at least right on the money for pronouncing the c as an audible "k-sound". If we go by modern ("standard") Greek, it would be closest to "skill-uh" (though this falls short on a few fronts if going for exactness), but even that isn't how it was pronounced in the classical period, which isn't even possible to describe using the sounds in modern English.
Great video. Just think, you could use space marines from the original Epic, use them as 1st born then the new maries would be theperfectsize for primaris marines. Thanks fo sharing
Hey Murray Love the design. You prob already know this but you mic was picking up a lot of echo. Also you might want to up the de-esser a bit. Much love!
Scylla nees an is or um at the end I think, like eboracum which is york in Latin. Love the fact you have a chaos titan with the name 'Instant arsehole' lol😂 had me chuckling for a while
This comment is definitely going to get lost but here it goes anyway. I know AI tends to be in the limelight a lot at the moment particularly among artists but I think it may be really interesting to see a video on Luma Labs Genie, it's a text to 3D render software that can either be taken to blender or whatever or straight to 3d print but for coming up with unique concepts, it's awesome
Jokes on you guys, I don't ever need to take a break in the middle of Hobby-ing to bask in the sun, I have an HOUR LONG BOAT RIDE FIVE DAYS A WEEK. Rain or shine, sleet or hail, I'm up at 6 and at work at 8:30. FML.

I like the harder K sound for a traitor legio - Skill-uh also sounds a bit like "Killa"

You know, as someone who pretty much exclusively pilots an Ion, seeing that Reiver with a Volcano Lance and Lasers makes me extremely happy!
And here I was about to go to bed at the reasonable time of midnight... I mean half past isn't unreasonable, right?
Id say its most reasonable
Half past midnight phew I wish I got carried away painting my knight 😂
You have nothing to worry about. I'm a student and I haven't slept all night. It's currently 11 am and I'll probebely end up sleeping at about 3pm haha
YES!!! JUST YES!!!
Legion Scylla lore/inspiration... Awesome
Titanfall inspiration... Awesome...
This is Warhammer for me. Painting out my inspiration on little plastic models...
They turned out great. And I liked the "we pretend to paint" part for replacing what wasn't filmed during the voice over.
A little suggestion, if you guys see it. I'd suggest for the legio the name "Scyllaikos"- of Scylla, rather than just her name. Maybe also written in greek script

@@Sharklops Yeah, a Charybdis titan would be great. I was planning on starting a knights army soon, I may base it on the creatures of the odyssey now
@@scyantic4104 I'd love a Circe knight with little pigs painted all over
The space marines on the base really helps sell the cheer scale of a titan, Love it! And then seeing the reaver towering over the warhound… makes me hyped like a little kid!
Scylla is such a good choice seeing how utterly terrifying she was in the myths, and the fact that no Greek Hero ever defeated her (to my knowledge). I love a good nautical color scheme.
Oh my goodness Dave's freehand painting is absolutely incredible, especially at such a small scale
Thankyou that is very kind
Definitely like the homebrew! I would be interested in a post "The Scouring" version of Scylla. Murray's paint job was awesome as always, but Dave's free hand was something else. Really impressive.
Love the Legio Scylla and forever impressed by the brushwork! And that orange, black and bone is amazing contrast and had a great result!
Cool! Would love to see some more terrain in this scale
I'd love to see the full sized ones post warp, awesome video as always ❤
I am really impressed how they both turned out... Good work guys.

Love to see the improvements to the reveals portion. They’ve been getting better over the past months and this one struck me as awesome and crisp
I love how dave is so lore focus and murray is "it's going to win my heart before it wins any battles"
You both have amazing freehand skills. Those are lovely!
Scylla. The scy makes a sound like window "Sill" so like silla. Regardless the name sounds dope.

Oof, no magnets and painting the Titan fully assembled? You brave brave man
Oh wow, that freehand. Thank you for sharing!
Wow perfect timing! I am building both of these mini titans and just finished the body of my Reaver Titan today. This video is fantastic inspiration for my build.
Now i want to see 40k titans build and painted!
Both your titans look great, and I would love to see more of these Legios in the future.
Loving this series guys!
These small imperialis models are turning out great for tiny free hand work, you definitely did a great job on that warhound
There's never been nor ever will be a more beautiful mech design than the glorious REAVER TITAN. I'd marry a reaver titan if it was possible.
Wow these Titans are beautiful! I really linked the extra small marines running around at the feat! I'm going to steal that if I can with my warhound as well.
Daves free hands are so epic! Hope to see your titans in the future as 40k veterans.
Dude! That legit skylla colour scheme is absolutely beautiful! Please please do go full 40K scale.
Murray’s under cost is like a perfect rust with some silver stippled on…
Bring that tentacle painting to life in the warped 40k version, have tentacles coming out of the hull!
Would love to see a full scale and corrupted version!
Dude. Your freehand is AMAZING! 😳
Really love the content!

Great work on the free hand!! Really nice
These both turned out really nice! I honestly have no interest in full scale Titans, but they're very tempting at this scale.

Great idea!
Paint jobs were a masterclass lads! Hopefully see them on the table too soon???
Always here for a good Titanfall reference. They both look great!
your titans look amazing, great work guys :)
As Dave was talking about his name inspiration I said Scylla out loud a few moments before he did, and I got so excited lol
Forgeworld Charybdis would be a nice touch as well. hehe.
Both these are awesome as hell
Oh wow this was like 2 videos so cool
The scale next to the foot soldiers made me laugh. I forgot how big titans are
I believe that "sill-uh" is the correct pronunciation. epic titans though.
Agreed. Leaves the door wide open for Legio Charybdis (Ka-rib-dis)
Yeah, the Sc should be lite Sc in Scythe... I think 🤔
Nah cause "y" is the ancient greek letter upsilon for "u", pronounced like a French "u", which is not a sound that exists in English to my knowledge
In Scylla it's a soft 'c' and 'y' sounds the same as the 'i' in the Knights who say 'Ni'. So literally the last way you said it at the end of the video.
I love your two Titan Ligio's! as a titan fall enjoyer im liking ligio gravitas their but both of your paint jobs are incredible!
Best thing to see uploaded right before i fell asleep!!
Whats 26 minutes less sleep in the grand scheme of things...
I mean it is already so late
Best thing to wake up to
Great Video Guys, Good to see Murry having a great taste in games

I think you guys made some pretty good legio titanica. Both traitor and loyalist!
Would love to see you guys remake these titans in 28mm
The chaos corrupted titan should have a bunch of tentacles coming out of it
I know you guys are primarily a Warhammer channel, but I’d love to see your take on Tonks

Crazy how I’m currently in the process of painting a nautical themed knight when this video came out
Great video. Just think, you could use space marines from the original Epic, use them as 1st born then the new maries would be theperfectsize for primaris marines. Thanks fo sharing
It would be cool if the legion split in half like the mechanicus during the Horus heresy
Banger video, love titanicus content!
@4:01 Passed vibe check ! 🤣
OH NO! Guess you got to build a dark mechanicum army to go with Legio Scylla!
4:41 does he have any idea how spot on he is what he described is an Emperor-Titan
If the warhound gets painted like this one 10000 years later you will either need some squid toys or 3d printed tentacles
What paints are you using for your various blues? I love the vibrancy
The legio scylla warp corrupted version is going to lots of tentacles 😆
I really want to make a custom chapter that likes knights and titans like a knight world
Loved seeing these! When are we getting tiny Space Bears? ;)
8:14 "Sil-ah"
how do you thin your paint so well the way it just rolls of ur bush is great please share ur secrets
4:03 Hilarious!
The scylla legion is actually a 3d printable set for not alpha legion marines by dakkadakka store. I find this funny
Personally i like Dave's more it feels more personal and like a god machine
Really cool.
Oooh battletech size? Nice ^^
If I am not mistaken the bottom half of Scylla is made by five different beasts.
bold of you to lay face down in the grass in australia!
Hey Murray Love the design. You prob already know this but you mic was picking up a lot of echo. Also you might want to up the de-esser a bit. Much love!
Awesome!
I love you guys.
Scylla nees an is or um at the end I think, like eboracum which is york in Latin. Love the fact you have a chaos titan with the name 'Instant arsehole' lol😂 had me chuckling for a while
Legionies imperialis should've just been called EPIC. It'd stand out way better in stores and they could have other factions.
Can't wait to see them battle it out in teny tiny titan fight
That is an awesome customer legio
Those calves are rock solid 😂

Legio Scylla
"Void Eaters"
Jokes on you guys, I don't ever need to take a break in the middle of Hobby-ing to bask in the sun, I have an HOUR LONG BOAT RIDE FIVE DAYS A WEEK. Rain or shine, sleet or hail, I'm up at 6 and at work at 8:30. FML.
Wait for Scylla titans, full army and a lot of there victims
