- Hey Everyone! Join me for the first week of the #threeriverschallenge where I cook and bake using only the food we have preserved and stored in our homestead pantry. See what we ate this week without going to the grocery store! I'm sharing ways I used up some of my excess jars of jam & jelly and the neglected jars of things we don't like. Let's make some food!

I’ve just found your channel bc of the #3riverschallenge. I enjoyed your content and manner of presenting your information and meals and was pleased to hear that your family does leftovers! I’m a 70+ yo great grandmother who with my husband enjoy eating most meals at home. I’ve done batch cooking during the years of raising our family of 6 especially while I still worked out of the home. Now, it’s just the 2 of us most of the time as our families live out of town from us.

I love gardening and teaching others to garden too. I am in a global gardening collaboration for the 3rd year and I am so excited to be starting my winter sowing. I vermicompost garden in containers so I understand the worm farming too. Great to see you looking forward already!

When there's a lot of fruit in the quick bread batter the center takes forever to "dry", but thats not necessarily a bad thing. If you leave the center more moist it takes on a custard like texture which is delicious and like a different creation. 😊
I didnt realize flour tortillas could also be pressed, I've only ised the press for corn tortillas. I'm going to try it. Thanks for sharing that trick.
I enjoy the cooking and recipes with the pantry challenge. Helps to have new ideas in using up things. Love the breads and other baking also.

Was looking for a wholesome channel to watch and support. I think you had me at the potato harvest video. 😊Your Christmas vlog was absolutely beautiful. And I appreciate that your canning content is accurate and responsible. No "rebel canning" encouraged here. Sharing food preservation information is a serious responsibility, as doing it wrong can affect a person's health, or worse. For some reason I thought you live in the south, but did I hear you mention PA? You're off to a great start, and as long as the Lord gives you joy in the doing, I think your channel will continue to grow and grow...just like your bountiful garden! 😊

Add butter and brown sugar into canned carrots. So delicious. You can also put in a little cherry pie filling in the carrots. That is how I learned to eat cooked carrots.

I have a yummy salad dressing to use up jams and jellies. Currently I have leftover cranberry sauce with a orange champagne vinegar which is amazing but the original recipe called for apricot jelly. Super yummy and tasty and can be used to marinate meat too.

You and I are very different on paper. I'm a young gal like yourself but living in the city, never having kids, not religious. BUT I'm commenting to tell you how valuable your videos are to so many people! Learning to keep meals and preserve food is just as valuable to my two person household as it is to a larger household. I used to waste so much food just not planning or preserving properly. Thank you for sharing so much! I'll be canning along with you this year for the first time 🥰 PS also a South Central PA'er (now living in SWPA but still!) ❤️🥖🌽🫙

Yes PLEASE do a bread making video. I have always made the dutch oven artisan bread but would love to learn good recipes for other breads especially sandwich bread. I just filmed a video on granola bars today I may have to try your recipe next time!

Loving your videos. Timing is too funny. I just recently got started on bread making journey. I'm 51 and should have started decades ago. Lol. Do you think the tortilla maker is worth the investment? We eat ALOT of tortillas.
I appreciate that so much Kathleen! It’s never too late, I’m proud of you for starting now! Well as a busy mama with lots on Her to do list, the tortilla press is worth it to me, especially when making big batches and freezing them. Time is precious. Rolling them out by hand is certainly doable and sometimes I still do if I’m only doing a few!

What a blessing to have found your channel sister. I've been binge watching in the a.m. with a good strong cup of coffee. Since most everyone has suggested a bread making video, I was hoping to hear from you on this question. I noticed your bread recipe seemed sticky, even up to the point of that final rise. Is this, perhaps key to a soft moist loaf in the end? Do you ever add additional flour to the dough to remedy the stickiness or do you just stay with your recipe amounts for flour? I'm ridin the struggle bus here sister with my dough 🙄 Thank you 😘
So sorry for the delay, I ended up getting swamped with comments and could keep up! Yes! Breads will end up dry and crumbly if too much flour is added. It should be manageable, not too sticky. Under kneading can keep a dough overly sticky as well. It needs at least 8-10 minutes of a good knead ☺️

Next time you do carrots, drain, add butter and dark brown sugar and let simmer on low for about 15 minutes. They taste like sweet potatoes

Do you have trouble fitting the filled 5 gallon mylar bag into the bucket because of it's shape and the stiffness of the material? (Is that why you fill it 2/3 full?) I'm trying to figure out some long-term storage in my buckets and wonder if the mylar works well!
Thats exactly why I fill it 2/3 full, so it fits into the bucket well. Ideally Id have something else to put the grains in to freeze but I don't so I fill it less to make sure it fits well into the bucket later. Things like salt though I'll put the bag right in the bucket and dump it in. I think the 5 gallon bags are actually on the larger side so I never fill them to the top, there is always extra that just gets folded over. Hope this helps!
I've heard that colloidal silver works well for pink eye in both humans and animals, although I have not needed to try it personally.
A bread making video would be great. Do you make English muffins? I've been a little intimidated to try a recipe and it would be great if you could share your process if you have one.
