- www.earthtouchnews.com Even venomous puff adders are no match for the southern ground-hornbill -- one of Africa's most distinctive birds. Watch the hornbill's powerful and deadly beak at work in this nature video clip.
Животные
I don't think I have ever seen a bird with eyelids and eyelashes like this. What a unique bird! Beautiful footage. Thank you for posting this.
Thanks for watching Larissa. When swallowed, venom can be broken down in the digestive system, so unless it is injected directly into the blood stream it is not going to do any damage.
Imagine this beautiful bird as tall as a giraffe and a beak twice as large, set time back to the Late Cretaceous and you have a Quetzalcoatlus with probably the same lifestyle.
If I lived in Africa, I'd welcome these birds around my house.
Funnily the opposite happens as ground hornbills have a habit of attacking their reflections and in the process breaking windows.
Ofcourse! Mr too.

It's eyes are one of it's greatest assets ! I've never seen a Hornbill before . They're interesting birds . they would come in handy on a farm that has a pond . ( for Water Moccasins )
You should see thier arboreal counterparts in Asia, especially malabar giant and himalayan ones they are also magnificent
Early bird gets the worm.
In this case, the voice over is not overly scripted. For a more authentic feel, we simply asked our cameraman to talk about his experience filming these animals.
With a monster beak like that, its a snake's worst nightmare!
Marvellous bird. There's cleverness behind those eyes
Bravo! Magnificent footage
Great stuff!
The eyelashes are bizarre.
Those eyelashes are beautiful!
if i ever saw a snake , i d run....dis bird has more balls than me
That beak is insane.
Good Birdie
You remember all of those dinosaur books where they said that smart dinosaurs would evolve to be almost sentient?
Yeah, the ground hornbill is pretty much that.
+CJCroen1393 I think ravens are also there lol
Bk Jeong
And parrots!
I wonder about how smart these birds are, their brain is probably smaller than their eye.
but on the other hand bird brains are pretty effective, a three year old child needs ten times the brain volume to be as smart as a parrot or raven.
I just love to see big powerful strong birds swallowing poisonous spaghetti noodles. I just love to see snakes disappearing down the throats of big birds as though going down to hell. Ha ha!
What does toddlers having youtube accounts have to do with this video about the bird swallowing a snake? Are they going to go to sleep at night having bad dreams about big birds swallowing them too?
+MrFysik Arrogant males who compete wuth insults should be bamed from youtube.
What does my gender have to do with it?
MrFysik im a robot. we dont have gender fool
MrFysik I have a few. I'm proud of them. You are an idiot troll
So fascinating!
What a magnificent creature! He has a human face.
DCFunBud a human face?
See video at 1:52.
DCFunBud that is not a human face, human looking eyes with lashes (i'll give you that) but not a face, birds don't have faces, they have beaks.
I does help to have an imagination.
DCFunBud you are stuck on imagining the bird having a "face" because of its human like eyes. Well if that floats your boat who am I to judge, to each his own.
Beautiful Birdy Bird
Now that's thinking outside the box...
fascinating bird
The snake is standing no change at all to the hornbill bird ?
The beak is like a blade and lethal.
you should record for natgeowild
amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow what a bird😍
Hornbill:snack.
Snake:eat shit.
I hate snakes. Good one for the bird.
amazing
It's eyes are so bizarrely anthropomorphic. It looks like it has eye lashes too.
I think the strong digestive acids in the bird neutralize venom. Probably it even becomes a digestive aid as it is for the snake itself. That's only my theory.
My understanding is that (at least most) snake venom is inactive unless it enters the bloodstream of a living thing, so can be digested relatively safely even by humans as long as no ulcers are present in the mouth, throat or stomach.
Gotta pity snakes sometimes. They go through the trouble of evolving toxic venom yet loads of creatures still gobble them up anyway.
Well, that's why they have the venom. Without it, they'd be pretty much useless.
I don’t know if its me but somehow the hornbill reminds me a phorusrracid (terror bird) but smaller.
Don't they become sick from ingesting the venom ? or have the adapted to be able to ingest that ?? They are really amazing creatures!
Venom needs to be injected into the bloodstream, it is poison that kills you when consumed.

For me it just just a snack...
just look at the beak on that thing
i was just thinking isn't there a possibility that the snake might bite the bird while being swallowed down whole
Neat eyes
What did the hornbill swallow at about 35 seconds?
It looks like a small murid (mouse) rodent of some type.
look at those strange eyes it has..
What that beak do? 😏
SHE CATCH AN AFRICAN VIPER?
cool
The bird can be loud
i disagree... animal planet and the likes tend to have overly dramatic (and to me, very annoying) voice-overs, whilst this particular narrator has a gentle voice, says no more than needed and next to that is quite informative.
I like that bird ... yeah, I like that bird. We should have a lot more of them.
You never saw Lion King? Zazu was a hornbill.
i dont feel comfortable when the eyes stared at the camera. Looks too much like human eye installed on birds face
3.01. Just like that!
what happens if it swallow live snake?
Well it mangles them with it's beak so it doesn't have to worry about that. If it swallowed a live Puff Adder whole that was uninjured I guess it could go very badly for the Hornbill.
3:04 Prehistoric look
Puffs for breaky .
top
it is a hornbil
You need to take off the seeds before you set it on fire.
If that snake is poisonous; wouldn't the boys die from the poison?
Although the snake is venomous, the toxin has to be injected into the bloodstream for it to be dangerous.
+Earth Touch Great video but I wonder how often the snakes kill these birds. Or do the feathers protect them enough from getting killed if bitten?? And these snakes are deadly for humans and other animals.
Damn...fckin scary bird
sayang gak langsung bisa di dowlood
😱😱🥶🥶
The snake was eaten alive ?I hope the bird is still alive
Be nice if we can import Ground-Hornbill's, Secretary, and other snake eating birds to Florida to help clean out the pythons that are over populating.
Boring. No action. "Here's two I killed earlier".
Pwmed..... -____-
Intresting but have you seen animal planet, nova, discover channel now here the voice off this video sounds loke he dont know what he is saying no offense
por snake
yeah i agree with Bruno that this bird is not beautiful at all
More like a horribill.
I like the animal most that kill and eat all the venomous snakes.
it is not hornbil
Hi, those definitely are hornbills ... southern ground hornbills to be exact.
+France Hopper How about you just look it up to find out how much they're right?
+Mrlaipa Salaimodern Lol the youtube know it all commenter. If it isn't a hornbill (which it very clearly is) then what is it? Clearly you are a genius and would know.
France Hopper
Yes it is.
Wow, you are so smart. it amazes me how immature people are
Unlike what the comentator said, I think that bird is very ugly
What an ugly bird
amazing
