  • What the world needs is hope and healing one step at a time.
Friends brought me on their summer vacation to Haida Gwaii, and how could I pass this one up?! It was a trip that I would never have taken on my own. It was epic. We had beautiful weather and new experiences for me that I will always cherish. I learned about the Haida culture, how they believe they came from animals. My prayer is that one day they will realize that God is their Creator! I loved their story of how they approached the BC government saying they wanted to give the name of Queen Charlottes back to them. The islands are now known as the Haida Gwaii. It reminds me of how God will one day claim back the land and people that Satan stole from Him, and will give us new names, and make the earth new for us, and He will dwell with us here! How exciting is that?! I may be wrong but I believe we will learn a new heavenly language -- I know it's not in the Bible, HOWEVER there is a tongue among the angels! And at the very least we will learn the language of love! This was filmed in 4K.

As someone who has sailed his own boat to Haida Gwaii and Gwaii Haanas I can say you have presented the majestic beauty of this special place very well. I cannot, however, help but feel there needs to be some balance in your perspective on the inhabitants. While without question an impressive race, the Haida are not without their dark past and should not be allowed to escape that any more than we "colonists" who today are held account for any number of supposed misdeeds. The Haida were huge slavers, paddling their canoes as far south as northern California to capture unwitting people, wrench them from their families and communities, and then haul them back to Haida Gwaii for a life as slaves. You may also be shocked to learn how many of the totems you so admire, had live slaves thrown into the deep pole hole before the pole itself was dumped in on top of them. This demonstrated the Chief's wealth and power. By avoiding such inconvenient truths some cultures are propelled to an undeserved status while others are afforded no leniency of their past whatsoever. This, in my opinion, is unhealthy for our society as a whole.

You must be a history teacher? I don’t know where the average person would find out info like this. It certainly wasn’t in Haida Gwaii! That is really sad. Thanks for sharing. I’m sure every race has a morbid past 😢

@@thehealinghiker The University of Alberta offer a free course on the Indigenous in Canada. I was never taught this in school, I took it and I learned a lot. And yes a morbid past was there...at the hands of the settlers/colonists

Just discovered your video. I want to go to HG. I don't have much choice but to take my 2 small dogs in my old van and must travel on a shoestring.
Wondering if my little dogs would be allowed on trails and beaches?
    I share your faith perspective!

I really can’t answer to that since I didn’t take any animals with me, but you could phone their visitor center or chamber of commerce and ask. I do know the ferry is a bit spendy, but it certainly is a unique experience! I hope you will be able to go.

There are some great spots on Haida Gwaii, From Gwaii Haanas, and too the west coast through the narrows at battle island. There are totems covered by the dense forests that are still standing after hundreds of years from once great villages. As A Haida myself, it is very eerie to but also cool to see, they are a time capsule of the past. Unfortunately very few get to see these things, they are off the beaten path.

Ohhhh you are so blessed so get to see that part of the archipelago. I had read about it while there and thought how extra special that would be to visit it. Old growth forests are rare indeed. And I am honoured to “meet” you! That’s so cool you are a native of the area 🙏

@@thehealinghiker The settlers coming to North America (Turtle Island) have tried to destroy the Indigenous culture in the past. They may want to hang on to it. There are many religions of the world, Islam, Hinduism, Folk culture, Buddism. Should all not be recognized?

Do you really need to talk about your religion in a video about the Haida? Respect them for allowing you to enjoy the land and their language. We know about the damage and atrocities, carnage and Genocide committed by the colonialists

This Video started out so well, HOWEVER where you went wrong is peppering your religious views throughout the Video. Also Im not sure why you would question Haida Culture views on animals vs your Religious views? It sure looked like you put a negative spin on there culture. Your god is mad at you now!

Hey thanks for your comment Kirk, it gives me an opening to respond and let you and any other person who reads this that I had a Native Haida reach out to me because of this video and I was able to give her a native Bible and native specific Bible studies and she was thrilled! I’m happy to send them to any others that might want them too.
