Using the Sun Joe MJ501M 18 inch manual reel mower | Is a manual reel mower a good option for you?

- I recently purchased a Sun Joe MJ501M 18 inch manual reel mower to try out and see how it would preform in my lawn. I was surprised with how much I actually enjoyed this mower and how it actually cut. While it doesn't compare to my Toro or John Deere it actually was not a bad quality of cut, and I found that I really enjoyed using it. Also showing how the pgf complete is holding up in the back. I haven't put anything else on the lawn other than pgf complete in over a month.

winning!
Thanks for the review! Sounds like I'm a guy for a manual one. At least to get started. Small yard...small budget...loves being in the lawn for a workout. Hit the nail on the head about me.
Might just be a great option for you!
That thing looks like it does a good job. I was loving my fiskars until I hit a rock and it threw it off. Now I have to readjust the blades because they are rubbing the bedknife. So, rotary until I get that chance. Good review, good video Brett!
Yeah I was impressed with the little fella! For a cheap alternative I think it's a great mower! Sorry to hear about the fiskars!
I recently bought a 16 inch one and loved it so much I'm looking into an 18 inch one. I dunno why people say that they are super hard to use. They really aren't that hard to push as long as the blade is adjusted properly. I can push mine with one hand if I really want to.
Nice video/demo. I sure do miss my McLane push reel mower with front catcher, oh yeah!
Chickens and jazz at 9:17 Doesn't get any better than that.
Yeah man! Who doesn't like chickens and jazz?
@@Brettsgrasscapades No idea.
I think I'm going to have to get me one of them reel mowers so I can be cool!
Do it! You will love it.
Been a little minute since I have used a manual reel mower... where is left tool hiding that thing??? That’s how we got our start 👍🏼
Break the old girl out! It is actually a good time mowing with it. I like it way more than I thought I would.
Brett's Grasscapades
It does sound like fun to me. Going to have to see where lefty hid her
Good video. Just got my first manual reel mower I like it but looking at getting toro 1600. Don’t like all the lines that manual one makes. Keep up good work.
Thank you sir! I appreciate you watching!
I’ve just ordered the Reel Mower
The lawn looks great still, thanks for your review. Would a fiskars cut better, Striperman seems to have success with his. 😁
I think so, however the fiskars is way more expensive!
Yeah striperman does! Always looks sharp!
First Aussie 😁 Your very own manual toenail clipper. 😎🤣
I didn't realize that was another use for it! I need to edit that in!
Found an update on PGF...lol.
Good rvw. I don't like the overlap factor. Are most manual reels like that? Is this a standard size? I've got Toro 22" recycler but would like to manual reel mow ever now and then.... Do u think I'll get a clean cut w manual reel?
So you’re tellin me there’s no way I should think about using this on 11,000 sq? Lol. It seems so light and easy to push though, at least compared to a gas powered non self propelled mower. I’m doing a renovation next weekend and seriously considering trying to keep my kbg at an inch going forward. The ol Honda might not cut it (pun intended).
It would take some dedication but if you're a nut you can do it!
Brett's Grasscapades yeah but the problem is will the wife want me spending that much time on one thing mowing 3-4 times a week haha! So satisfying though.
@@DIYDad1 there really is something calming and nice about manually reel mowing.
Could you do one on pool maintenance
We just bought the same pool but we have not set it up yet
I fast forwarded all the way to the chickens. They were waayyyyy more entertaining. 😂😂😂😎👍🏼 Just kidding Brett! Great video bud...I’m just loving my GreensMaster, but I am using a manual reelmower on my side yard!
The chickens are more interesting to be fair.
What kind of grass do you have?
Bermuda? Kentucky blue grass?
Nice, review!
Thank you sir!
I had trouble with the adjustment by the blade. Any suggestions?
Is there a 3rd party striping roller that can be added to it?
Since you moved on from that Sun Joe electric Reel, lemme borrow it
Haha maybe...
Seems like SunJoe stuff is starting to magically appear on your doorstep. #brettsucks
I wish it would!
Gypsum for dog damage?
I've heard that's a good idea I need to get some! Thanks for watching!
@@Brettsgrasscapades Works well here in southern Iowa. Put it on as needed for dog spots (spots from Spot?), and right before winter at 100 pounds per 1,000 sq. ft.
Not familiar with your area or the lawn care practices there. I am probably the only one on our block to use gypsum, though others are finding it useful also.
Great videos. At age 67 I am still learning (but forgetting more!).
@@Grampa-el3kz you gotta have that attitude! You should never stop learning!

Striperman your manual striping mowing is catching a following into the lawn community😎👊
Striperman has started a trend , plus they go out every morning hoping for Stripermans type of dollar spot on their lawns.🤣😂
I think that setting to cut was to high.
I would love to mow barefoot
I always love me a barefoot mow!
real men use scythe :)
I'd be lying if I said I hadn't watched scythe videos and wanted to try one.
Barefoot!!??!!??
Always barefoot!
You don’t have a leaf nor a stick on your property. Real earth has things on grass. My mj503m is being returned. I have EARTH on my property. This mower is only good for yards without trees and no sticks and leaves.
