    It’s simple, if there’s a video with a Monkey or a Trail I’m likely to watch.

    I will be 71 in August, my klr 650 is to heavy for an old guy. I got my trail 125 in February, already have 900 miles on it . It's just right to ride fire lanes and a cheap trip to town at 110 mpg.

    A fun and interesting review. Thank you. I am sure it will help some people to make up their minds. I used to have a CT110 back in the 80s. It was great for going to work, shopping and trail riding, of course. Two gripes about it though. 1. The lack of a clutch lever just feels weird. Since I was used to regular bikes, I was forever grabbing empty air :-) 2. There is nowhere to grip with your knees, which again feels weird, and makes the bike wobbly in sand and mud. But other than that it is a great and very practical bike, as you said.
    Cheers from Canada and Merry Christmas.

    Just received my Hunter Cub after 18 month wait. I think the Cub wins out for me due to big rack and the versatility, and yes, I am an old guy. and I did have a Honda 90 back in 1974….

    I do food delivery on my monkey. I had to add the large luggage rack in the back to accomplish this, where as the trail comes with it. That being said I love my monkey but I wouldn’t mind having both! The only down fall I would say would be that the trail doesn’t have a clutch.

    • @calobster
      @calobster  2 года назад +3

      The no clutch lever thing is not as much of a pain as you would think it is, I've gotten quite used to it. I've thought about doing food delivery on the trail, more as a hobby than as a job.

      @@calobster Monkey's small wheels are terrible compared to 18" rims. They are grossly over priced and just a marketing nostalgia trip. Like the Grom. Go ride a 2022 CB125F with the new ESp tech and engine and it's night and day! Even the Monkey and Trail 125 dash are awful compared to the excellent CB125F rectangular LCD dash. There is no comparison. I LOVE my CB125F and it's awesome in tight 40-50mph corners! Cheers.

    You didn't mention the kick start that's on the CT which is why I'm going to downsize from my Suzuki DR 200 I'll never understand why Honda didn't put a kicker on all the 125's and why all the other companies seem to hate kick start especially on single cylinder cycles today, it wouldn't be like kick starting my 1000cc HD shovelhead.

  • @spydie

    You didn't mention how HARD the CT125 seat is. It's the reason I sold it after 1500 miles. I'm looking at getting the Monkey now, but I'm still not enthusiastic about the 125 engine. I'd have to sell my Yamaha XT250 to get it and even though I really want one, I know the 125 engine will disappoint me (again).

    a GIRL stopped me at the market to tell me it was a CUTE bike... ( the trail 125 of course ! ) :) the only downside i have experienced so far was its easy to crash ( when you arent paying attention but thats any cycle... ) and the parts are NOT cheap if even available. the good part of that tho is you get to upgrade to better stuff !

    I LOVE riding tubeless tires! Plug a nail hole and back on the road in minutes. Plus, in the thorny dessert you can add sealant. BIG plus for the Monkey. I have also heard complaints of the rear tire skidding when downshifting the "automatic trans" on the Trail. Here is a video of my Papio (Grom clone) riding Onion Creek, offroad outside Moab, Utah: ruclips.net/video/xcUd88QC-dw/видео.htmlsi=rGq3ktvlSDpDhs_W

      if they perform similar to a grom, then after some engine break in and on a calm day/flat road, one could expect to get at least up to 55mph(depending on the weight of the rider) especially after a fresh chain maintenance routine. going full tuck gets it nearly just under/right to 60, but this style of riding suites the grom far more
