    Level headed, balanced and fair, that's why I come to this channel. The mechanical keyboard community has a habit of exaggeration and labeling things as trash when we know the reality is most production keyboards from major companies these days aren't likely to have anything important wrong with them, they're just not for everyone.

      Yea, as a fellow gamer who is apart of a community like this, I understand. I have a gaming computer, Xbox one x, a switch and I’m planning to go into the modded console market as well as the mobile market a little because I have been on it with a close eye and it seems like Apple arcade is actually pretty good. Mob mentality is a problem in communities to a point that people forget to be individuals and have independent thought on their preferences.

      Imagine if you go for a Razer Cynosa Lite (membrane keyboard in which the keys feel "spongy" (it's kinda nice, don't get me wrong)) for about 69 bucks. I don't think it's worth it.
      The feeling is not bad and for games, you don't need to put too much pressure on the keys to actually type or play but for a membrane keyboard to be around 45-70 bucks... I don't know

    The "thin" feeling seems to be a thing for most contactless linear switches like this. I've tried the Adomax Flaretechs that Chyrosran22 particularly liked and they also felt quite hollow to me. I find that its a subtle difference in preference. Some like that these contactless switches like opticals and hall effects have a completely frictionless feel to them, while many in the custom keyboard crowd like the thicker or more viscous feel that you get from lubing and smoothening out the contact action. The presence of contacts for the slider to rub against is the key factor here. Even with tactile switches, it was found after BOX Royals that the stiffness of the contacts contributes almost all of a switch's tactility. Zeal took advantage of that principle with the Zealio V2. With linears, it seems to be split on whether you like having the additional feel generated by rubbing against contacts, even if there's no bump, and smoothing it out using lube. Contactless switches don't have that dimension to them at all, so they feel significantly different even as linear switches.

    I've had the Huntsman TE for about 4 months now, and I had cherry mx blue before. I was able to adjust my typing in under a month, and I am actually a faster typer than I was before. The lower actuation distance is a bit tricky to get used to, but because of it my fingers don't have to press down nearly as much. I also find the sound very satisfying: not too loud but responsive.
    Also the point of the opto-mechanical switches is not for the "extra speed." It is for durability, since gamers will be clicking the same keys over and over again. But the low actuation distance makes you feel fast.

    • @DocTime56
      @DocTime56 4 года назад +1

      It's actually speed too, just some milliseconds (I believe something like 30), since the switches are optical, there's no signal debouncing delay.

    • @sunimod1895
      @sunimod1895 4 года назад

      @@pipipopo3687 definetely quieter than mx blues, it's just as loud as any linear switch. So it depends on how hard you mash your keys. I was recently quite impressed by the build quality of the Razer Blackwidow Lite (Stormtrooper Edition) advertised as a silent work-orientated keyboard. the build is similar to the huntsman being a floating key design with an aluminum mounting plate (painted over for the Stormtrooper Edition) but has the non-standard bottom row. The board comes with Razer orange tactile switches which were what you would expect for an MX-type tactile switch and it comes with the lazered ABS with their newer clean font on a white only backlight, though they do include a bag of O-rings and a ring keycap puller if you chose to install them. What really surprised me were the stabilizers. they use Costar type stabilizers with lube already applied and they are rock solid. There is virtually no stabilizer rattle and they feel very taught and dense, even pressing on the outside of the stabilized keys they go down perfectly even and effortlessly, if they ditched the lazered ABS keycaps and non-standard bottom row for the PBT doubleshots and standard bottom row it would make it quite a compelling choice if you don't mind light tactile switches and want solid silent stabilizers.

      I have Blackwidow Elite and Blackwidow Chroma v2 (Chroma v2 died after 1.5 years of use)
      While Razer overall build quality is very good, Razer switches have so much wobble in both switch base and switch stem, making them feel very loose. Chinese 65% keyboards like RK68 have much more frim and tight feel to it for 1/3 of the cost of Razer.

  • @AJddfx

    I recently purchased one of these boards and have been using it for around 3-4 months now. As someone who has never had a custom keyboard but has instead bounced around through different Razer, Logitech, Das Keyboard, and more products... This one is pretty good.
    Here are my overall thoughts:
    This keyboard is LOUD. I purchased it naively thinking it would be quieter than my previous board because of the linear switch instead of clicky... but the sound of the keypress and keyup are destructively loud. If you want something quiet-er this is *not* the board for you.
    Other than that, it's really good. Linear opto-mechanical switches are nice, they feel really good but that's all preference. The board is a good weight so that it doesnt slide around while playing, but it's also not tediously heavy to scoot out of the way when doing something else. It only needs one cable (that is detachable) which is unique from the other products I've used that have all manner of attached cables. It's minimalistic and respects the desk space I have available.
    I'd say the board is good and at an alright price... just beware if sound is a concern-it's LOUD

      Glorious PCGR has a fantastic hotswappable keyboard selection, from full size, TKL to even compact. I went to best buy and they had this on display, the key switches feel fucking amazing. The closest thing I can compare it to is that feeling you get when you press a pen down, but you try to get it as close to clicking as you can, but without actually clicking it. That feeling you get while doing that is what these key switches feel like. And it feels good as fuck. Also, the main reason the keyboard is so loud is because of how thick the keycaps are. I took off the keycaps and it was virtually silent even when banging on it. I am seriously considering getting this with custom keycaps

    I don't get the "gaming switches" i have played with Cherry reds, browns and blues, Kailh boxed whites and navys, and tbh i did not feel like reds were superior or made me better, maybe i had some problems with some blue switches getting jammed but that's about it, i cannot nor i have never felt the necesity to press a key so fast that tactile or clicky switch were a problem for me.
    On the other hand i can understand why would someone not game with navies as they are really heavy switches, and i certainly don't feel like they are slow, but you might get tired a bit faster when using them, but nothing to do with the switch design in itself, some people with heavy hands might like heavy switches.
    For me right now i am very happy with using boxed whites in my keyboard they are light and decently tactile plus a really satisfying click which i like, i use navies on modifiers except left shift and control.

      Andres Gallego depends on the game. Some games you need to hit the same key quickly at a high speed and tactile/clicky switches are just not good for that. I’d even argue that O rings makes it even better since it reduces the travel distance.

      Well I have to disagree, ofcourse it depends on each personal preferrences tho. However considering that atleast to my knowledge there is no blackwidow with the new stabilisers, the bw was not a innovative solution. So up until the huntsman kbs were released, razer was always just another kb brand. There was so much movement when pressing keys.
      However with the new stabilisiers and innovative switches, I need to say that I am impressed.

    in all honesty I've used quite a few boards. from a building quality point of view, corsair, razer, and a few others basically are the same qulity from my experience as far as prebuilt keebs go. good enough to get the job done (eh like all keyboards tbh) although in the beginning corsair's early mechs were like the only using aluminum so they definitely get points for that. If you're looking for something special or above average your best bet is custom, kustom (if youre loaded), or one of the Chinese pre built keyboards(they're all over Tae's channel) that use the name brand parts inside

    • @antonhelsgaun
      @antonhelsgaun 4 года назад

      Kustom?
      Also, I buy everything used and this combined with being Danish (so I need a Nordic layout) just makes gaming keyboards so great value. I can get a k70 rgb for less than 40 dollars if I look around a bit 👌

    • @SicSemperBeats

      Anton Helsgaun by custom i mean custom using Korean parts. The Korean case manufacturers have stupidly high standards and high quality aluminums with unique detailing and form factors (well not anymore, their designs are often faked with lesser quality by lesser brands which is ok with me tbh). An example would be duck(not ducky) cases. They’re expensive and actually have resale because they’re pretty rare.

      They're really good keyboards, but with more custom keyboards being on the rise, people are becoming more picky.
