- Well you all have finally pressured me into trying this workin' man's sandwich, the basic tomato sandwich. Not a BLT, we already did two version of that classic. No, this is just a T. And it's going to be my lunch today. So come along, watch me make a stupid-easy sandwich, go to work with me, and join me on my lunch break to evaluate this basic, but oh so delicious, sandwich.

Hello again Scott. I loved your last BLT sandwich video. It brought back children hood memories. This video let us remember my husband's life. She loved this type of sandwich even in the last week of her life. Didn't eat much of it but was so pleased that we served it to her. Have a great Summer. 🥰

The only change I'd make is toast that bread. Helps with tomato juices. But man oh man ... sitting here in 5b waiting - somewhat patiently - for the first of our summer.
I used to carry a whole tomato 🍅 in my lunch sack with some salt in a twist of wax paper . No knife needed just ate it Iike an apple and salted it between bites . You are right there is nothing that says summer like fresh tomatoes .

Just the way I made tomato sandwiches as a kid/adult. Put a piece of cheese on there, put it in the oven and toast is. Oh man, yum!
Looks so good! Here in Georgia I call that a “sinker”…you eat it over the sink because the juice drips down your arm. I make it with 3/4” slices of tomatoes on Derst bread with Dukes mayonnaise and lots of salt and pepper. There’s nothing better! Love your video!!

Hmmm. I seem to remember recommending this idea to you while you were working on the BLT episode! You forgot the canned coke wrapped in tin foil and the sandwich being wrapped in wax paper!
My husband calls Wonder bread “Kleenex” 😆. We like our bread to be a little more “to the teeth”, but to each his own. Try a grilled cheese with tomato, some dried Italian herbs and slivered onions - add bacon if you have it - my favorite.
I do agree with your idea about white bread. Not for me either.
I have been enjoying a delicious thick slice of Beef Steak Tomato with mayo, and S & P between two slices of bread almost every day this summer. I can only fit one slice on my sandwich.
My go to snack i love this simple sandwich with loads of Himalayan salt and black pepper... Sometimes i do like a few pieces of onion.. 🤌🤤

Oh, YUM! Had me a beefsteak slice with Hellman’s, sliced Mozzarella, S&P, Oregano, toasted in a hot iron skillet on melted butter. Best lunch this week!

At the rate my garden is going I’m going to have late summer early fall tomatoes .. so much rain and cool temps .. but Ive got peas and lettuce growing beautifully! I planted up 2 seven tier greenstalks with mostly lettuces, a few chard, spinach and a few strawberry plants .. they are all loving this weather!

As your tomato season is wrapping up mine has yet to begin, so I am eagerly anticipating that first tomato sandwich. I've made BLT's with some hothouse tomatoes grown a couple hours from my home, but I can hardly wait for some of my own.

Can’t say I’ve ever wanted a tomato sandwich before, but dang if you didn’t make it look and sound enticing! Could even take it up a notch by putting some fresh home grown basil leaves on there if you’re feeling really fancy.

With your tomatoes heading out I was wondering what your plans were going into the heat of summer. If you are going to plant any heat loving summer crops or just throw in some cover until fall. If you are looking for a great variety of Okra I cannot recommend dwarf bush cowhorn enough!! Its becoming my new favorite variety and I'm thinking it's all i may grow for here on! I picked my cultivar up from Travis at LazyDogFarm and am well pleased with this variety. Been raving about it for weeks and it's been a big hit with the family. Edit forgive me for any shameless plugs or advertising others! Just had to give my recommendation! Hard to find and not your typical cowhorn okra
I planned to grow and start a cowpea landrace breeding project, but it is looking like my summer garden will be difficult to fit in this year. I hope to at least get the cowpeas in, the sweet potatoes came up voluntarily where I wanted them to so that's on schedule.
Have you ever tried toasting the bread, butter them and then add your tomatoes. Don't get me wrong I love it with mayo also 🍅🍞🌻🤤
I can’t eat a tomato sandwich without toasting the bread, it gets too soggy otherwise. BUT I don’t understand the butter😂

You had me with you right up until you mentioned refrigerated tomato....... Sacrilege!
My mom packed a sandwich (usually Cervalot, unless she had leftover roast from a meal), chips (usually corn chips, before they were GMO), fruit (usually apples, we had tons in season & they were cheapest out of season), and dessert (always baked from scratch, usually cookies because they were easy to pack, but sometimes cake or pie). And the sandwich bags weren't resealable, in the later years they had a longer piece that you tucked in first & then flipped over the part that was attached down the side seams, and in the early years they took a twist tie to close...am I dating myself? I spotted the first blossoms on my tomatoes about three days ago.

I remember a tuna sandwich on well-buttered white bread, potato chips, a few thinly-sliced carrot and celery sticks, 1/3 of an apple, sliced ( there were three of us 😂), and two Oreo cookies unless Mama had baked and then it was Nestle’s Toll House cookies. Everything was wrapped in Saran Wrap. I don’t think sandwich bags were invented yet! She included one carefully folded paper napkin and packed it in my red plaid metal lunchbox. I usually bought a miniature carton of milk at school. Life was good. The tomatoes weren’t ever available during the school year so they were what we ate during Summer Break. Now I still eat them all Summer. I worked at a hospital where management staff ate free in the cafeteria. Life was even better then. They had a real chef!

The Drummer (hubby) still complains to this day about his cold sliced Spam sandwiches. His life was hard. Now he eats lunch at a $ushi restaurant for lunch most days. LOL.

mmmm i so much loving the san marzano and the roma because i not liking slimy tomato but i do liking sweets flavours. so i finding san marzano best but roma is close second and easier to finding just not as sweets but nicely. but it you growing like me i grow both and making many tomato pie in summer and like you making sandwich!!! my recipes is similars to you recipe but i wanting to change some thing to your suggestion as is seen so nicely with mayonnaise!!!
