  • In this video, I compare the new DT PRO X headphones to the classic Beyerdynamic DT models to see which is the best.
    Does spending more really get you a better sound?
    The answer is not as simple as I thought it might be!
    The new DT PRO X headphones have added a new sound profile to the range and this has left a lot of people wondering what the differences are between the DT PRO, DT PRO X and DT Premium (Tesla) range. They are all made in Germany and in this video we compare the price, sound, style and build quality to see which are best for you.

    🎧 Some notes about the sound profiles:
    DT PRO Classic: Strong bass, recessed mids and a bright treble response.
    DT PRO X: Deeper sub-bass, clean bass and mids and a smooth treble response.
    DT PRO (Tesla): Deep sub-bass, clean and controlled bass, neutral mids and an airy treble response.

      Hello !I watched your video because I would be interested in buying an open headset. At the moment I'm mixing with my recording headphones for my voice which is a SHURE SRH 440, but for the music mix it has some flaws? The first is the lack of spatialization, the second is the lack of bass and especially I do very long session sometimes and this headset is a little uncomfortable. Voila ! I have 3 choices that are offered to me the DT 990 PRO, the DT 990 pro x or the Sennheiser HD560S. You who know well these headphones can you tell me what is the most comfortable in your opinion? I am very grateful for your interesting video.

Most of the other reviewers spend 99 percent of the time talking about the build, fit, materials used, software, etc, and then talk about the sound for the remaining 1 percent. Excellent review! I have the DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm and it is always loud enough anywhere I plug it: My Scarlett 6i6, my 4 computers, my digital piano, and my Android smartphones. There's no problem with 80 Ohm, it's always loud. Further, you must not listen to loud music for more than a few minutes on headphones because this causes hearing problems. Take care of your ears, people; most musicians above 50 yo are having trouble these days.

I personally get a better picture of the mix by having 3 or 4 different hundredish (or less) pairs that I know and can compare btw, than spending the whole budget on one expensive pair. Thank you Michael. I've used the 770 Pro 80 ohm for a while now and love them. I may have gone for the 1990s but didn't as it would mean getting an amp or a new interface to drive them. I wonder if Beyerdynamic will produce an update to the 1990s with lower impedance. Either way, it would be interesting to see a video round up of interfaces that are better suited for use with 250 ohm headphones than most of the smaller USB-powered ones.

    I absolutely love your channel! I've made incredible improvements due to your tutorials/explanations etc. when I'm mixing my music. I currently use a set of speakers, the 770DT Pro and the 1990 and I do seperate mixes on each and compare them. I find the 770 great because they allow me to hear certain frequency spectrums and I use the 1990 for the finishing touches. They sound wastly different and you really do get a feel on how different Headphones can sound :) which is quite helpful if I'd just upload my stuff somewhere. Being a musician can be quite frustrating, especially if you're somehow always unhappy with the results. Different topic. Thank you for your content. It really helps :)

    • @GooZe...
      @GooZe... 2 года назад

      @@martinkulik9466 May I ask, what kind of interface or headphone amp you're using? My DT770 as well as the DT1990 are 250ohm versions. Generally speaking low impedance is good for low audio output sources, like phones f.e. Using a 250ohm version on a phone for example works poorly. It's way to quiet because the output signal gets drowned by the 250ohm resistance. Using 32 or 80 Ohms on a high power headphone amp or interface can result in "blow out". It creates unwanted distortion and clipping. It pushes way to much power into the headphones. Maybe that's the issue?

    • @GooZe...
      @GooZe... 2 года назад +3

      @@martinkulik9466 That is difficult to explain. So the 770 are closed back headphones, they don't have much if any bleed out at all (which is great for recording vocals, you don't hear the music you're playing through the vocal mic, which is a pain to fix). Having closed back headphones is very isolated and centered sounding. It is "focused" in some way. The 1990 are open back. They sound "wider" if that makes any sense. To me the DT 1990 are great to see where something sits within the stereo image. It's hard to explain. It's like the DT 770 having some keys or whatever playing at 40% panned left seems just quieter, whereas the DT 1990 how close or far away said audio source is. It's like: DT 770 "ok, it's 40% left and a bit quieter" and DT 1990 "oh, sounds like it's 40% left and about 2m away". Can't explain it any better. To me the DT 1990 give me a better image of the space or room I'm working with.

      Hi. Did you have a chance to compare them with 80 or 250 ohms version? I have problem with decision as I bought UR-RT2 audio interface and when I started looking around for headphones I wanted to buy at least 80ohms but it turned out that my new interface has only 40 ohms on headphones output. Now I would have to buy headphones amplifier which is more expensive than DT990 PRO. I am wonder is there any big difference as manufacturer describes DT770 32 ohms as for listening from smartphone or laptop, not for music production.

      I haven't had the chance to compare them myself, though Michael has a whole video on impedance where he explains it really well. He describes the impedance (#of ohms) as really just determining how much power the headphones need to sound really good. My 32 ohms don't need a whole lot of power to sound amazing (and they DO sound amazing), and if you look at a sound map of the sound signatures between the 32, 80 and 250, the sound signature is virtually identical.
      I agonized for ages about which ohmage to get. For your circumstances, I'd highly recommend the 32s. Trust me, you're not sacrificing sound quality. The reason the manufacturer doesn't list them as being for music production is because professional producers have a high-powered situation better suited for the 80 or 250 ohms. But plenty of people in your situation use the 32ohms for music production, myself included.
      If you're still unsure, let Michael explain it to you! ruclips.net/video/9CYmTNc9K14/видео.html

    Great video, I love how you go over all the parts of the headphones. One thing I do wish you went over, is more on the open back ones. This video felt mainly about the closed back versions. But still, very enjoyable video and lovely review. I absolutely love my DT 770 Pros, the most important parts of the headphone are done fantastically, especially for their price. But man, seeing these new 700 and 900 Pro X series and the 1770 and 1990s, it's super tempting to go bankrupt just to have them. Especially the 700 Pro X and 1990s, they're next on my list for sure.

I'm very new to production, it's more of a hobby and I don't have a full set up in my house so I need to be a bit portable. I use Ableton Live 11 and a labtop most of the time. Got worried when I realize there was a 32, 80 and 250. Can I ask for the 80 Ohms (no interface for now) without much issue? I don't need them to ever be super loud, just want the quality. I strictly consume content, no recording or mixing at all. I run my headphones from a dedicated amp+DAC stack connected to my PC, and that PC is located in a space that's quiet enough for me to mostly use open back headphones. My primary uses are music and video games.
    For my use case, if I'm considering the DT 900 Pro X and the DT 1990 Pro, what would you say are the key differences to consider?

  • @dehydro
    @dehydro 2 года назад +5

    Hi Michael, thanks for the great video! I recently got the DT 1990s and I love them to death. I was initially looking at the DT 990 Edition ones cause I'd heard them at a friend's place and was blown away by the soundstage and resolution (hadn't heard open-back headphones before).
    Now, however, I'm looking into upgrading my shoddy closed-back Brainwavz HM5 to something with a better build and that sweet Beyerdynamic sound signature ^^ Naturally, I looked at the DT 770 Pros first, as they such good value and was contemplating which impedance version (80 or 250) to get, but found out just today that the 700 Pro X are a thing. I have a decent audio interface and a good amp, so powering them is not really a concern - I'm really just looking for great sound and detail.
    With that in mind, would you say that the less 'scooped' lower midrange less 'airy' highs on the 700 Pro X give them a flatter frequency response compared to the 770 Pro?
    Another reviewer mentioned that the soundstage isn't as wide as the classic 770s on the new 700 X - would you say the same?
    Last but not least, do you think the lower impedance rating on the 700 Pro X impedes (hehe) their ability to reproduce detail? Does resolution in the mids/highs suffer from this at all?
    I'd understand if Michael doesn't manage to get through all comments, so if anyone has managed to try both pairs, I'd appreciate your 2 cents. Thanks!

Any recommendation on which of the other options are great for crispy vocals and extra soft on the head? Thanks!

    Great video! I just had a very decisive moment in my life, and I returned the 770 pro 80 ohm and bought the 700 pro x (they should be arriving tomorrow)!
    From all the videos I've watched and things I've read it seems like the treble is going to really sound so much better on the 700 pro x. In my short few week relationship with the 770s the treble was just too overbearing in certain frequencies, but I loved literally everything else about the sound of the headphones (I've never had headphones with such a wide soundstage it brings an entirely new dimension to music listening and production). The other thing I didn't like about the 770s was the non detachable, and HUGE cable. Like you said, I'm literally sitting right in front of my computer and having that 3 meter non replaceable cable was beginning to be more of a hassle than anything else. So I used my first world Amazon privilege of sending something back before the one month period ends.
    Long story short, I'm just doing that thing where I'm justifying my purchase and reinforcing it by watching videos related to the product, hahaha. Again, great video, I feel justified now, LOL! Cheers!

I will be mixing vocals (Hip-hop and singing, voice with bass, baritone-type I believe), together with beats, mainly 2-tracks from RUclips/lofi-beats from RUclips. I plan on mixing in a room where I live, there is a trafficated road outside, with a tram-line, so some noise I believe will enter my room while mixing. I am considering the 770 with 80 ohms, the 880s, and 1770/1990s, also it is an option to buy the 700/900s. Do you believe that open-back headphones will be something you would prefer in a similar situation, do you believe the sound from traffic might have lead to you wanting a semi-closed/closed back? Any advice for this situation I described?

    Hey Michael, thanks for the comparison video.. I wanted a good pair of headphones for mixing and mastering in a home studio, open back is not an issue.
    My interface is an RME fireface 800 and a Focusrite
    Would love to get some advice from your on which headphone would be best for mixing.

    Great Video! I've been searching for something with a little more sub bass than the 770pro. I'm using a Schiit Bifrost DAC with the Schiit Asguard3 HP Amp. Open/Closed are less of a concern - when I have to switch between music and a conference call - Open is preferred - however i have AKG 701 or Various Senn 600/650 for that task. Curious if you'd recommend the ProX or Tesla HP for me
