I've had the 770 Pro X LE for a couple of months, and now the 700 Pro X to compare. I feel like the 770 captures your attention immediately with a punchy bass and crystal clear high end. They sound incredible, and I now understand the word "fun" when people describe these headphones. Then I try the 700 and feel slightly underwhelmed, but only at first. Once I got used to the 700, it's a very nice, warm sound that probably is more natural. Like you say in this review, the 700 Pro X is probably more "correct" which is why I'm going to stick with them for general use. Keeping both for different purposes, but just chiming in with my impressions. Your review seems spot on to me! Thanks and keep up the great work.
In 2005 I had a Sennheiser HD595, deployed to Iraq, the Sennheisers were held together by tape 6 months in. I got in touch with a friend back home who was also into music. He offered to send me a pair of DT770 80 ohms. These things were built like a tank, they lasted the next 9 months and the entire year of my second tour, the gray pads were just brown by the end. I had them when I was a poor college kid (refreshed with a pad swap) enojying punk and metal the whole way. Im fairly certain I gave them away, they never even broke. Dont let too many of these pretentious 'audio'phile' nerds tell you otherwise, these headphones are badass.
If youre a young person strapped for cash today, you want to get into audio, music appreciation, gaming, movies, etc... Get yourself the 770 Pro X for 200 bucks, get the 6XX for 200 bucks, bam, Pro X is a great closed back with a fun V shape, excellent imaging, good isollation, comfortable, built to last, the 6XX with a nice chilled out sound, can run balanced, play well with tubes, open back, solid construction, more neutral warm sound. Youre off to the races, its a great time to be into audio. Also, dont sleep on the MMX300 for gaming.
@@PassionforSoundI guess I was unclear (legalization of marijuana, amirite?) a young audiophile should get these (which I prefer over the normal 770 because of the detachable cable) and also get a 6XX to compliment them, then youd have many bases covered, and theyre both pretty affordable. I actually picked these up from sweetwater on ebay, they sent me an offer for 180 instead of 200. I think the Pro X and the 6XX are easily two of the best deals in audio right now.
The bass bump was my main issue with 770s. It makes everything too congested imo. Got myself a pair of 700 pro x and swapped the fleece pad with my old 770s to regain the clarity and performances edge the extra high frequencies brings up. Its a tiny difference but it makes a world difference. It just transformed into the perfect headphone for me. Also worth noting that the 700 Pro X has better isolation that the 770s and that affects its sound perception. Cheers,
Just got these a few days ago. Being a long time beyerdynamic fan and owning most of there other headphones I couldn't wait to get these as I found the 700 pro x a bit boring and over damped. I liked that they went back to the 770 v shaped tuning. I totally get what your saying about gaming with these. I couldn't believe how good they were. They sound absolutely incredible in game. Some of the best soundstage and imageing ive heard on a closed back. Also ASMR was next level if anyone cares about that 👍
The original DT770 is the only headphone I have owned that I've sold due to disliking it. Too scooped in the mids for the amount of energy in the top end.
My very first set of headphones in 2020 that started this crazy hobby for me was a pair of DT 770 80ohm given to me by my mom of all people. Although my collection has grown and includes Meze, Focal, Sennheiser and DCA sets, I still love my OG DT770s. Might consider these for the office with a boom mic. Excellent review as always
Calling them a ‘guilty pleasure’ and thinking of them as part of a collection rather than an all rounder is a really good way to look at it. Healthy review, really enjoyed it.
Hi Lachlan, don't know if you're experimenting with mics or did a change due to technical malfunction but I very much prefer the sound of you mic/signal chain in the previous video (Don't make the wrong headphone choice!!) to the one used in this video. I am finding this setup sounds boxy, muffled, and boomy in the lower registers. It sounds like it is picking up some room reverb (not saying that is what is happening, just that is how it sounds to me). The setup in the previous video seemed cleaner, better tonally balanced, much more natural sounding. THAT BEING SAID... the previous setup does sound a little more compressed, and with a little more nasality (in comparison). For reference my signal chain when watching RUclips is on PC, optical out to Schiit Bifrost 2 (original), then routed via balanced outputs into a Schiit Lokius (tone controls disengaged), single-ended RCA out into the Platin Hub, finally transmitted to the Buchardt A500 via WiSA. Same setup used when listening to both videos.
You're spot on. I switched to the Beyerydynamic M70 Pro X mic just as a test and it really doesn't work for my voice/room. I think I overcompensated when trying to fix it, hence the low end boom and sense of room sound. I'm back to the Blue Encore 300 after the next video and I think the next video where I still used the Beyer mic is a bit better than this one.
I bought the DT 700 Pro X a few months before they released the DT 770 Pro X LE. I was super happy with the DT 700 Pro X's, but then I bought the DT 770 Pro X LE'S and was amazed. My co worker has a pair of DT 770 Pro's and we compared them in our office to see what differences they may or may not have had, and honestly they are pretty much the same as far as sound goes. However, with cats that chew on cables from time to time, I really need the removable cable just in case. Another note for anyone on the fence about buying the DT 770 Pro X LE. I would do it now. I love these headphones so much I actually emailed beyerdynamic support to see if they were going to keep making these. they said it is for this year only unless customer feedback is positive enough. I have no idea if that means beyerdynamic will just stop making the limited edition run and move on to just make DT 770 Pro X's, but it was enough for me to buy another pair to keep in the closet. By no means am I an audiophile, im a gamer and I have damaged eardrums from my childhood. So finding a pair of headphones for me has been interesting to say the least. These headphones may be it.
I had the DT1990pro at one point, and I found it harsh and fatiguing and eventually sold it. Sorry to say I wince when I see measurements of other Beyer offerings, I am biased and never want to experient with that company again. The only exception is the original Beyer T1 2nd gen, which supposedly [if driven properly] is supposed to be quite good. But finding one has been challenging...
I can totally understand your experience with the DT1990. When I reviewed it, I appreciated it, but wasn't particularly sad to see it go back. I think the DT770 Pro X is managing the old Beyerydynamic traits a little better while still holding true to the old house sound. The newer tuning approach on the DT700 and 900 Pro X is worth a try if you ever need that sort of headphone - they're very different.
in the past I had 770 250ohm for some reason I missed that beyer sound, was thinking about those or 880 so decision was made to buy 880 600 ohm modded by custom cans with balanced cable😅
The 770's might mesh well with Yamaha's Silent Cinema for late night home theater use. They also look like they have enough padding for long term listening sessions. Food for thought. Thanks for the review !
I bought it last week, dt770px was absolutely stunning for gaming especially competitive FPS! I can't believe my ears, the sound is just unbelievably ACCURATE! and I had a Focal Elegia(over 1k💰), dt770px is even better than my Elegia!
The Focal Stellia is my choose, specially if you dont play competitive, just adventure, RPG single players. You can drive with authority with a small desk DAC/AMP like JDS Element III MK2 Boosted in my case. The Stellia really hits hard with a solid bass, decent brightness, intimate but great imaging and very detailed, very engaging headphone. Its really nice for the emotional JRPG OST, mandatory to try on games like any FInal Fantasy, Persona, Yakuza, Nier... and other JRPG with superb OST.
Audio/headphones are just subjective. When you find a headphone that is confortable enough that you can forget about them being on your head for hours at a time (not necessarily meaning light, but when you get lost in whatever you are doing, you arent thinking about them being uncomfortable or potentially getting uncomfortable but just are solely focused on what you are doing) and also not fatiguing. You can find a brand that provides a signature that just works for you and never gets fatiguing. Unfortunately i cant use beyers for long due to treble peaks and find the design doesnt fully close over my ears at times and the sound doesnt feel the same on both sides (even after adjustment). I found that senheisers really close over the ear with their oval shape and angled drivers and the 560s in particular is not fatiguing to me at all. I also have the 770 pro X and while its not as fatiguing as the dt 1990 pro, it still has a little sibilance present. The bass is nice in the sub regions but it seems to be lower upper bass frequencies so to me sounds scooped. Also what i never hear from reviewers is the amount of beyers that rattle in the right (sometimes left) earcups at moderate and pop at loud volumes. So many people have these issues and i have had it on both my beyers driving them with an rme interface and mobile phone.
Yea a lot of people don't like the peaky treble on all beyers. However a lot of people don't mind it. Myself I'm not a fan of peaky treble even if the detail and imaging is good or even better than less peaky headphones.
I remember how awful it was searching for answers to my questions on these headphones, but more specifically how they compare to others in the lineup, for anyone feel free to ask! I have these limited editions, the dt 900 pro x, and I have the OG dt 770 80 ohm. I absolutely agree with your assessment that these make sense as part of a set of headphones, great video! :)
I have the 900 Pro X and they're a little neutral / dull. Granted, I bought them for production at home. I have a groovebox (Syntakt) and power bank I'm wanting to use out and about in public for making music that's a closed headphone. After something a little fun, and I can always go back to 900 pro x when I get home. Do you think the 770 pro x would be the best bet or 700 pro x? I tried the original 770 pro in a local shop and it seemed okay, but it's really hard to tell.. feel like ears really need to adjust and unsure about fatigue. I'm leaning toward the 770 pro x because they're going to be sufficiently different to the 900 pro x, and might be more fun for jamming on the Syntakt. I swear I had the same problem several months ago. I was after studio monitors and some people recommended against the Adam T5Vs for being too colourful thanks to the ribbon tweeters. I got them and love them.
It all really depends on what you need. The 770 is definitely coloured so it won't give you a good reference for tonal balance, but if you're not mastering the music (adjusting it for tonal balance, etc.) and you just want something fun while you layer together your tracks, the 770s will be great for that.
Hi, Lachlan. I got the dt 770 Pro X LE based on this review of yours. Waiting for them to arrive now. I was wondering whether there's a review/comparison of Sennheiser HD 490 Pros in the near future. If you happened to review them, please compare them to HD 560S/HD 400 Pro and Beyer dt 1990 Pros. They're priced very similar to the 1990 Pros, especially the Plus model of the 490 Pros. The only difference between the non-Plus and Plus models are the accessories - the Plus gets a case and an additional headband, for instance. Keep up the good work and thank you for the in-depth reviews.
I was actually going to sell my 2016 Utopias until I used them for gaming and then I realized how good they are for Movies and Gaming, the bass rolloff is just perfect for vocal centric applications. It is absolutely ridiculous to use a 2000 dollar pair of headphones for movies and gaming (I bought them 2nd hand, so yeah they were cheaper) but they work perfectly with Schitt Syn to adjust the width and vocal presence. Dumbest Combo ever but it works well.
Hi I hope to get an answer on this. Can i just plug this headset in my motherboard? The board has a built in DAC and here are the specs: • ESS SABRE reference DAC (ESS 9118) • Hyperstream Dynamic Range (SNR 125dB) • High-Res music (32bit, 192KHz PCM) • Super low THD+N (THD+N -112db) Have a nice day Anders
I remember hearing the original 770 at a music store. I thought "Wow, these really sound awesome. Nice space as you mentioned. I thought they were a bargain at the price they were asking. I have one naggin question: These or the Athena?
I ended up ordering a pair, hopefully they monitor well :) I play bass drums, pesto and guitar, so I’m a bit worried about the midrange for piano and guitar but we’ll see…
@@PassionforSound well they’ve come in! For pure music listening, I feel like they suit my preference ok (though I do wish there was a bit more punch in the low end (90’s and early 2000s gospel bass doesn’t really come through as well with these). I do find that that upper mid range to treble region can become too shouty/ sharp for my taste when I’m monitoring my bass. So all in all, really good depending on your music library, but I think I may return these to go to a 700 pro x. Great review as well, I think you were spot on!!
I can’t say it’s punch exactly that’s missing, but something for me feels lacking in the low end personally for me, maybe? the sub bass is present though
Thanks for reviewing these! I have them and love them. Really, really enjoying them for a lot of things, including gaming. They have gotten a lot less attention than they deserve, I think.
i love my DT770 Pro 80ohm so much i even have Custom Cans balance modded version too but not going to pass on this one DT770 is the most comfortable headphones i've ever tried when paired with Dekoni ear pads the reason i didnt bought DT700 is high clamping force ear pads are proprietary shit but now we get this hell ya i hope they release DT990 Pro X too
Hi Passion! I recently downgraded to 2 audio converters (Chinese stuff $5 and $12 only, the $12 one has volume knob and headphone output, lol). I did that to reset my perception of audio. Worked out rather well, my ears finally took a break! OFC these things aren't perfect, but timbre wise for me improved severely. Then, I thought, ok, I know I have always wanted (to try at least) an Audioquest Dragonfly. Got the Black one. Half price. I LOVED this thing, and using the Jotunheim 2 with it is even a lot better for me than the ADI-2 DAC (I still think it's garbage). Now I know the Dragonfly is the sound prob. 90% of what I was looking for. I only focus on TIMBER. FInally voices/whispers/flute sounds/ sound what they should sound like. NOT HARSH. These to me sound finally natural. Snares sound fat. Kick drums not hidden, for me very good texture. Bass too. The only con I see so far is that it sounds kind of small compared to anything more expensive I have. Having said all of this: Will I like Bifrost 2/64? Will I love it? You know a lot Passion, I hope you can guide this astray dog.
I think, if you don't like the RME ADI-2 and you like the Dragonfly Black, then you should love the Bifrost 2/64. It's great for timbre and has better staging than either of the others too!
@@PassionforSound Tyty! This answer soothes my soul. For real. I LOVE music, like you have no idea. But it hasn't been till now that I finally found a great sounding contraption like the Dragonfly Black (the Cobalt is super cheap on Ebay, I just realized that). At least now I have the Jot2 to pair with the Bifrost 2/64, so I am half way there, right?! X) I highly appreciate your answers, Passion. I hope you have a great life.
Ordered a pair for gaming, should be here tomorrow. Currently using a 6xx which are... not great for gaming. The music in games sound great with them though, of course lol. I play a lot of Sea of Thieves and sound queues are crucial for combat.
@@PassionforSound Yeah, these are pretty nice for gaming, great call! I threw on the choice leather pads from Dekoni which tames the treble just enough (and are far more comfortable than the stock pads). Sounds just fine on my Modi/Magni stack.
great vid. im thinking of getting myself a pair. only problem I have is I would need a mic to pair with these for gaming. I have no idea what would be suitable, also uncertain about hooking this up to the pc and how to control the sound to get the best results.
I have the DT770 pro! These were my rugged gaming only cans for a long time, but I did find them too siblant and boomy in the bass and am now rocking Athena which are more mellow but image almost as well. I found the imaging on the 770s to be pretty great for gaming! I wish we had a comparison between the two but I have a feeling they are very similar.
Thank you for your “guilty pleasure” and gaming insight. I feel like I now know how these fit into my headphone space. I look forward to listening to them and… switching off between them and other headphones according to my need for focus or entertainment.
I had both and just returned the new limited edition and went back to the 250ohm DT 770 Pro. I dont understand either Beyerdynamic or these "expert" reviews...
@@kutasimusic so you don’t recommend new 48 Ohm LE version? I’ve heard they are even more V-shaped? More hi freq Beyer peak and bit more sub bass, is it true?
@@KonradSkowronski I really wanted to like the new one but unfortunately everything is true as the way you said. The bass is kinda boomy and not tight. The mids have a weird boxy and echo-effect feel (both male and female). The highs are less sparky than on the old. They are fine. BUT the soundstage also narrow and i never had the openness of the old DT770. Gaming or movie watching wasn't a good experience. Probably listening music due to the mindrage issue is even a bigger problem... It's an U shaped sound. It got a bit better after burn in but only the bass got less. The midrage still feels wrong to me... They can go loud though. But apart from the look, the new comfier headband and better built quality i think this is a downgrade. No one should consider buying this who liked the original IMO. I also think it's a shame and misleading that Beyer calls these DT770 Pros. They are really a weirdly tuned DT 700 X.
@@kutasimusic 🫤 it’s disappointing. I was hoping for an upgrade but it seems like Beyer messed it up. New DT700 Pro X also have many conflicting opinions. Some say they are more natural, more even across the frequency range other call them muffled. Now when on YT is so many biased sponsored videos it’s easy to get misled. For example recently I bought Austrian Audio HiX15. They receive great reviews, opinion-forming WHAT hi-fi among other praised them to be brilliant budget headphones. How they really sound? Strange. They are deprived of most midrange frequencies especially low mods and have over hyped upper midrange and harsh treble that “experts” calls resolving. DT770 250 eat them easily. I wish I could find hp that are somewhere between Sennheiser HD600 and DT770. Less 9kH spike, more low bass from 100Hz down to sub notes. Philips Fidelio X2HR are kind of close but they have annoying 5kHz spike, no hi treble air and lack some low bass punch. I will have to find a shop and test new Beyers in person but after what you said I am little sceptical.
I'm running the Tygr300r for some time now after going through Cloud 2, GSP500, PC38x, HD560s, K702, but I'm crazy for a closed back(mainly gaming). Might be me...but to get really immersed in the game's world these open backs just don't do it for me :/ Also for the lack of that bass and sub bass that make the atmosphere. For games like Callisto Protocol, I actually found myself going for my cheap KZ EDX Pro IEMs for that real immersive experience😹 Been some years since I last used a pair of closed backs and these new Beyers might be it. Thanks for the review!
Hmmmm... That's tough. The Beyerydynamic DT 700 Pro X aren't bad or you could look at the Ollo S4R or Phonion monitors (I can't recall the model, but they don't have many)
Interesting review. What would you recommend for a drummer that wants to listen to backing tracks directly from iPhone or iPad and still be able to hear the drums and backing tracking while playing drums at the same time?
@@PassionforSound I would need a recommendation for a closed back overear headphone. On one hand I need sound proofing to cut of the sound waves because playing drums is freaking loud and on the other hand I need a good source for music (i.e. backingtracks, play-a-long music). Currently I use very old DT 770pro with 250ohms. But these are probably 15+ years old, the foam material on the insides (the black stuff which is directly on the ear) of the headphones is starting to break and because of the impedance the music cannot be played very loud while using an iPhones (iPad seems to work much better) And that is all in all why I want to get an update. But with 700 pro x, dt 770 pro, dt 900 pro x, … I am a bit lost what to get. So thanks for your advice in advance.
I've recently purchase the Schiit Gunnr and using it with my iem. I'm really new to the hobby and was wondering what would be a great headphone to get mainly for open world immersive games. I currently have my eyes on the FiiO ft1, Audeze Maxwell and this one. What would be your recommendation for gaming sir?
@@PassionforSound closed back would be nice but at the moment I'm open for anything that really brings the immersion to the fullest. Ya got me at elden ring in this video haha. Since I'm kinda new I guess 150-400 usd tops?
@graelstream2353 if you're in the US, the Audio Technica x Apos ATH-R70x Refine are great. Otherwise the other options you're considering are excellent too.
@@PassionforSound sadly I'm away for work, I'm currently residing at the southeast Asia. I'll watch some reviews of the audio Technica one sir hehe. Thank you so much for taking time in responding on my questions sir. as a newbie this really helps a lot!
DT700 has better tuning than 770, but is worse in most other ways. The imaging is a lot worse and they're bad for gaming and have a small non-immersive soundstage while 770 has those fundamentals sorted. They really ask for EQ, but that's free. Need to try these if they're meaningfully better.
Can you tell me, please, if they can get loud, I mean REALLY LOUD, without distortion ? Because I sold my 770 (NOT pro X), because they sounded pretty distorted, when played loud, at 96db, as others have mentioned too. (In comparison with 700proX?)
The Rode headphones are a headphone for life, and are a perfect headphone more or less, at least for my ears, as a nice, clean studio headphone. Beyer’s are usually more fun though, and often have some of the leading bass quality in the industry.
I agree. The Rodes are pretty coloured in the mids, but they're wonderful for editing and comms use, just not so much for getting the tonalities right.
If you tried the 770 on a class a amp like maybe Asgard 3 or xduoo xa 10 . How is the treble. Class a normally adds warmth and tames treble. Looking for fun listen. I have other headphones . Already own and like the dt 880 pro. Ltd edition. I own the ta 20 plus.
I used a bunch of amps, mostly Class A. They'll perform exactly as I've described with some moderation by the amp, but my descriptions are based across multiple source chains to give a broad sense of their sound.
What a fantastic, thorough review. I am sold on these pretty much, and it was great to hear about gaming, mate I had no idea that you liked games, dark horse Lachlan, dark horse indeed.
For gaming with the DT770 Pro X Limited what AMP/ DAC Combo device would you recommend for gaming? Something ike the Topping DX3 pro+ / Fiio K5 ESS or higher Budget range like Topping DX5 ?
Soundblaster g6 and only tne spoundblaster g6 iv seenpeople go thru amps like sweeties and everyone of them returned on there knees begging to the sb g6
I do agree that the 900 is excellent. I REALLY like what the 770 Pro X is doing, but some might still prefer the 900. They've got the same drivers though, so some of their performance characteristics are very similar.
@@PassionforSound I found a way to take all the sharpness out of the dt 1990 and increase the bass in the same time. Wicked cushion pads lol. really does works and I bet it will work on the dt 770 pro x as well
Which pads are thicker and more comfortable i have dt880 and after 2 months the pads shrunk a little bit and my ear touches the driver and its not comfortable thinking of getting dt770 pro x or dt700 pro x?
@PassionforSound Do you happen to have Sennheiser HD 650? And if so how does it compare to this headset for gaming? Also curious about HD 620S but realized it's not released yet XD
I don't have the 650 anymore, but they're a very different sounding headphone - more mid-focussed rather than v-shaped so the bass is less punchy and impactful, and the treble isn't as crisp. For gaming, I'd take the 770 Pro X. For musical enjoyment, probably the 650.
@@PassionforSound Thanks! I went with the 770 Pro X because not only do I plan to use it for gaming but the type of music I plan to use it for benefits more from good bass. And I did an experiment with headphones that can both be open and close back and I prefer close back with the type of music I listen to.
Is directional audio for fps games like warzone better with these vs a good set of iems like the orchestra lites or even something like the truthear crinacle zero or 7hz sonus or are the iems better for that specifically?
Over ear headphones will generally do a better job with image placement because they engage our outer ear and not just our inner ear so I'd expect you to find these superior.
@@PassionforSound have you tried iems for that kind of gaming? I’ve only tried a few headphones and 2 sets of iems but none of my headphones are remotely close to either of my iems. It’s like the entire audio of the game is different
It all depends on your preferences and priorities. I've used IEMs like the AntLion Solo and Duo and they're great for gaming so it's not to say that IEMs can't be fantastic. I just know that some people prefer headphones.
@@PassionforSound i definitely agree. Preference and especially priority. My headphones are good for gaming, especially immersion. They do a better job of putting me in the environment, especially the open backs. Story games are amazing with them. I just seem to get much better pin point accuracy in locating enemies in first person shooters “warzone” with iems. I was just wondering if u had the same observation with your greater experience or if I need to try different headphones to have that level of pinpoint accuracy in fps games in particular.

It's complete nonsense to play with closed-back headphones. You can't hear your own voice on Discord or stream, the soundstage is worse, and because of the closed design, gunshots feel like they'll blow your brains out-or at least burst your eardrums. Tested on DT 700 Pro X - it sucks.

Youre off to the races, its a great time to be into audio. Also, dont sleep on the MMX300 for gaming.
I agree that the 6XX is great, but it's an open back and not v-shaped. Did you mean a different headphone?
@@PassionforSoundI guess I was unclear (legalization of marijuana, amirite?) a young audiophile should get these (which I prefer over the normal 770 because of the detachable cable) and also get a 6XX to compliment them, then youd have many bases covered, and theyre both pretty affordable. I actually picked these up from sweetwater on ebay, they sent me an offer for 180 instead of 200. I think the Pro X and the 6XX are easily two of the best deals in audio right now.
@@PassionforSoundI guess I was unclear, I meant for a young audiophile to get the Pro X and the 6XX to compliment each other, edited for clarity.
Got it! That makes more sense. 🙂
Also ASMR was next level if anyone cares about that 👍
Thanks for sharing your impressions!
Justo lo que quería escuchas el ASMR como se sintió?
The original DT770 is the only headphone I have owned that I've sold due to disliking it. Too scooped in the mids for the amount of energy in the top end.
It's a shame I don't have the OG version here to compare
My very first set of headphones in 2020 that started this crazy hobby for me was a pair of DT 770 80ohm given to me by my mom of all people. Although my collection has grown and includes Meze, Focal, Sennheiser and DCA sets, I still love my OG DT770s. Might consider these for the office with a boom mic. Excellent review as always
Calling them a ‘guilty pleasure’ and thinking of them as part of a collection rather than an all rounder is a really good way to look at it. Healthy review, really enjoyed it.
Looks like there's a editing mistake at 15:11 with the FR graph label for the Rode NTH-100.
Oops. Sorry about that. I can't fix that once they're published ☹️
770 was my intro to hifi/audiophile world. Will always hold a special place for me!
Thanks for sharing your experiences! Happy listening.
That's great news! I'm so glad you're enjoying them so much.
Using any DAC or just Plug and Play? Im thinking about them too for Counter Strike, are They better than Cloud 2?
The Focal Stellia is my choose, specially if you dont play competitive, just adventure, RPG single players. You can drive with authority with a small desk DAC/AMP like JDS Element III MK2 Boosted in my case. The Stellia really hits hard with a solid bass, decent brightness, intimate but great imaging and very detailed, very engaging headphone. Its really nice for the emotional JRPG OST, mandatory to try on games like any FInal Fantasy, Persona, Yakuza, Nier... and other JRPG with superb OST.
I'm yet to try the Stellias. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on them!
I tried to arrange the 490s, but they come from a different team at Sennheiser that I don't currently have a contact with.
Hmm I need a solid closed back .. these are tempting
Got mine today, after I reduce the high peaks with EQ they sound good, I will use them for RUclips and movies.
What app did you use to EQ?
@@SofaKingA I use Boom 3D
@@ixoye56 Thanks! I'm looking for a good audiophile gaming headset. This and the Fidelio X2HR came up. I'm torn.
@@SofaKingA I would recommend Sennheiser 6XX that's a much better headphone that is great for music as well.
I have been known to game with a setup worth over $10,000 🤯
Hi I hope to get an answer on this.
Can i just plug this headset in my motherboard?
The board has a built in DAC and here are the specs:
• ESS SABRE reference DAC (ESS 9118)
• Hyperstream Dynamic Range (SNR 125dB)
• High-Res music (32bit, 192KHz PCM)
• Super low THD+N (THD+N -112db)
Have a nice day

I’m pretty sure you need nothing fancy to run these, so as long as it have a headphone out, you should be fine
Yep. Nothing special required beyond a headphone jack.
@@PassionforSound thanks for the answer 🙏
I remember hearing the original 770 at a music store. I thought "Wow, these really sound awesome. Nice space as you mentioned. I thought they were a bargain at the price they were asking. I have one naggin question: These or the Athena?
That's a tough one! Athena for a more natural tonal balance and if you don't need isolation. 770 Pro X for fun and fully closed.
I ended up ordering a pair, hopefully they monitor well :)
I play bass drums, pesto and guitar, so I’m a bit worried about the midrange for piano and guitar but we’ll see…
I hope you like them! If nothing else, you've got yourself a fun set of music listening headphones. 🤞🙂
@@PassionforSound For sure, I'm just hoping I can handle the treble lol.
Sounds like the 700 Pro X will actually be perfect for you. Thanks for posting your impressions!
Thanks for reviewing these! I have them and love them. Really, really enjoying them for a lot of things, including gaming. They have gotten a lot less attention than they deserve, I think.
I'm glad you're enjoying them!
i love my DT770 Pro 80ohm so much i even have Custom Cans balance modded version too but not going to pass on this one DT770 is the most comfortable headphones i've ever tried when paired with Dekoni ear pads the reason i didnt bought DT700 is high clamping force ear pads are proprietary shit but now we get this hell ya i hope they release DT990 Pro X too
Having said all of this:
Will I like Bifrost 2/64?
I highly appreciate your answers, Passion.
I hope you have a great life.
Ordered a pair for gaming, should be here tomorrow. Currently using a 6xx which are... not great for gaming. The music in games sound great with them though, of course lol. I play a lot of Sea of Thieves and sound queues are crucial for combat.
I hope you love them as much as I do
@@PassionforSound Yeah, these are pretty nice for gaming, great call!
Check out the ModMic wired or wireless as an excellent option to go with these
I have the DT770 pro!
The Athenas are brilliant and a bit more versatile due to their very balanced tuning.
@@PassionforSound got on your recommendation, sir. 😊
Awesome! So glad I could help 🙂🙂

I'm glad I could help!
I miss the direct comparison to standard 250 Ohm DT770...
I know. That would have been really handy if I'd had a pair
Great review as always, thanks for the comparisons. How about them against the new hype Fiio JT1?
I'll have to see if I can get the JT1 to try.
The Tygrs are great! Glad you liked the review.
What would you recommend for a natural sounding and isolating close back? For casual listening and live monitoring. Thanks!
I've never played drums so I'm not sure if a closed back would work for this or if you would need an open back. What are you currently using?
@Sven_K. I reckon the DT 700 Pro X might be a really good fit. Good isolation, excellent sound, easy to drive and a nice sense of punch and dynamics.
@@PassionforSound thanks for the recommendation, I will look into that. 👍

@@PassionforSound sir it's me again, would the Schiit Gunnr be able to drive the audio technica apos?
DT700 has better tuning than 770, but is worse in most other ways. The imaging is a lot worse and they're bad for gaming and have a small non-immersive soundstage while 770 has those fundamentals sorted. They really ask for EQ, but that's free. Need to try these if they're meaningfully better.
Can you tell me, please, if they can get loud, I mean REALLY LOUD, without distortion ? Because I sold my 770 (NOT pro X), because they sounded pretty distorted, when played loud, at 96db, as others have mentioned too. (In comparison with 700proX?)
I don't test headphones that loudly because it's unsafe and I don't want to damage my hearing. Sorry.
The Rode headphones are a headphone for life, and are a perfect headphone more or less, at least for my ears, as a nice, clean studio headphone. Beyer’s are usually more fun though, and often have some of the leading bass quality in the industry.
I agree. The Rodes are pretty coloured in the mids, but they're wonderful for editing and comms use, just not so much for getting the tonalities right.
and what is better to take for rock music slipknot or rammstein beyerdynamic dt 770 pro x limited edition or 700 pro x
Unfortunately, that depends on how you specifically enjoy those genres.
@@PassionforSound thanks for that. helpful.

I do like to keep people guessing 😁
For gaming with the DT770 Pro X Limited what AMP/ DAC Combo device would you recommend for gaming? Something ike the Topping DX3 pro+ / Fiio K5 ESS or higher Budget range like Topping DX5 ?
I think the DX3/K5 would do just fine
Soundblaster g6 and only tne spoundblaster g6 iv seenpeople go thru amps like sweeties and everyone of them returned on there knees begging to the sb g6
I found my dt 900 pro x is way way better for gaming then my dt 1990 pro for gaming. the imaging on the 900 pro x is unreal and unbeatable
I find the DT700 Pro X pads to be a bit thicker and firmer, but the opening is a little narrower IIRC.
Is the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 32, 48, 80, or 250 OHM version better for gaming?
I have the latest Schiit Hel.
I haven't spent time with the regular ones. This review is only for the Pro X version.

I think it's all going to come down to the individual because I can see (hear?) benefits in each. 🙂
What if the difference in price is only 50 euros?
Compared to what?
I love your review videos. Keep it up 💪
I sure will. Glad you're enjoying the vids
@@PassionforSound My pleasure.
I still use the Tygr 300r for games, absolutely amazing.
I actually thought about the Tygr as I recorded this review. They're very similar in a lot of ways IIRC.
My favorite is the AKG K371 ❤❤❤
Man. These are gonna be rare soon if people buy them for gaming instead of music production like they are meant to.
Honestly, I think the other regular Pro X models are better for production so there'll always be good choices available.
Sounds like the DT 700 has a dodgy headband that peels off too..
How so? Mine is still in perfect condition...
HD800 is the best gaming headphones 😎
It never had enough bass for me
as a gamer that owns a lot of high end headphones, I have to agree.
@@PassionforSound ez. Peace = 5db shelf under 100hz. Best gaming experience ever 😂👍
And if u dont want EQ, there are still ifi products, like zen can with xbass. If its only for gaming.
Epos h6pros beat 800s at gaming easily and that's plain truth. All the stage of open all the close detail of closed epos nailed it.. and all hash sound highs are c.ear .oud and thee marketing didn't lie with out any sharp pain ear drum stabbing. I have 10 sets every game any game epos wins the q0 test every single time in that 10 I have 800s and 560s and hd599 and hd400s epos wins every single test ,play
@@audie-cashstack-uk4881 u 800s is broken then. but glad u like shitty gaming headsets.
but thats not the truth for all others gamers :) epos xD bah, shitty headset man.
tbh they are wayy to bassy for most stuff
for example the bass in valorant is so heavy that i need to turn my volume down
yeah you can hear steps but i think even people that like bass will disklike these headphones
its too much *bass*
That's all going to be a case of personal preferences
@@PassionforSound its on the edge of personal preference they have objectively too much bass
So if others (including me) subjectively like them, how is it objectively too much?
@@PassionforSound I guess if you really want to you can get used to anything no matter if sub/objectively good
But did you try playing valorsnt with them? The bass of the vandal shots is so Insane that I can't hear anything else
@PittGG no, I didn't. I've just thoroughly enjoyed them on the games I've tried. As with music, different games probably suit different headphones too
please review aune ar5000
I'd love to if I can get a pair to try!
Would be perfect if they had a mic😢
True. There's always options like ModMic.
@@PassionforSound modmic?
Yep. Here you go: ruclips.net/video/hgipJ3CViKM/видео.htmlsi=p0L8LrD4mDftk8xC
My brother has a 770....no idea why
they sound great but too bright and hurt my ears.
I can understand that
Why do they always use them ugly grey pads
I like them, but to each their own 🙂
They're gorgeous.
You sold me ☺
I'm sure you'll love them!
@@PassionforSound 😉
Epos h6pro open thank me later
Very fatiguing headphones. Not suitable for work.
They're pretty energetic
That stupid "BROING" sound effect made the video unwatchable. I gave up after 1:26.
mfs will find absolutely anything to complain about 🤦♂️

It's complete nonsense to play with closed-back headphones. You can't hear your own voice on Discord or stream, the soundstage is worse, and because of the closed design, gunshots feel like they'll blow your brains out-or at least burst your eardrums. Tested on DT 700 Pro X - it sucks.
Sometimes a closed back is necessary
@@PassionforSound I think if someone is sleeping behind you, even the monitor's glow and the noise of the coolers will disturb them. So definitely open-back headphones for gaming.
@@primarqo Shut up tard, you dont know sheit.
A hundred years ehhh. They weren’t making headphones for the nazis I hope.
Pigs were making bacon for Nazis. Let's boycott bacon.
These are the worst headphones of all time. Grainy, undetailed, tonally compromised
Are you talking about the DT770 or the DT770 Pro X version?
@@PassionforSound the x. it is unlistenable: thin mids disjointed bass, and that peaks on the treble... masking all the detail in a monstrous way. even with eq, the detail is fake like their sibling dt700 pro x
Fair enough. I agree they're not a natural sounding headphone, but I think they can be fun.
What would be your personal preference?
@@reliableandrew it depends on the purpose. If you arere looking for closed bak hp's The original dt770 80 ohm is way better from a resolution standpoint. The akg k371 is on the fun side because of the elevated subbass, but the mids are reference. Even the new and cheap jade audio jt1 is better.
It's trash
Why?
