I'll stick with my DT880-250 although I have to admit that I'm occasionally tempted by the insane VFM offered by the old DT770. Thanks for the video.
Hooray! Excited for this one!
finally i’ve been waiting
The video I have been waiting for!!
Great video! Been waiting on this review. Thx!
I just got the 900 for my home studio in my appartment and I absolutely love them!
Thanks DMS. Your explanations are very good.
Hit the nail in the head. Beyer build + k371 sound is legitimate contender for the only closed back you need
Maybe that's what the 800 Pro would/will be.
Really? Is the sound of k371 really soo good compared to dt770 pro or the new 700 pro x?
@@meanmachine6173 tonally? Definitely. K371 and k361 are tge best tuned closed back headphones under 500 dollars. Maybe even more
Tonally they're pretty much THE best closed back headphones out there. They have the most ideal Harman curve of all closed back headphones if you like this type of sound. The build quality is the only concern, they're not durable.
Ayy was waiting on this thanks!
Great video, thanks DMS🙏🌹.
Thanks for the detailed review
Hmmm, okay I think I'll go with the TYGR. Great video.
Mostly reflects my thoughts, although I'm finding the comfort lacking due to the extra weight and clamp force over the older 770/990/880. Its no less comfortable than the 1990 though but not really something I'm happy wearing all day
I found them much more comfortable than the old ones tbh. But I never had problems with clamp force to begin with.
Dt770 better than dt700? I cant decide between this 2
After using these, I ended up returning them and going back to the 560s. Just something about them, can't quite put my finger on it
@@InaktiverUser No, I think the DT 700 Pro X is better than the DT 770, but not 100€ better. Both still have horrible timbre and bad tonal balance and are not worth it for music enjoyment.
I also didnt like the fit & comfort. The pads of the new ProX are NOT deeper and thicker, they are even a bit smaller mostly due to the rectangular shape. Additionally the Foamdiscs of the new Pro X models stick out more in the center part, taking away some Depth (770 and 990 have a flat surface). The headband was also a bit hard.
IMO the old models are super comfy and look huge besides the compact new ProX...
Great review - thanks! Question: I have an Aune T1 and listen to a mix of vocal trance and Eurodance. Would this be the best for those? I have an Aune T1 DAC/Amp.
need that 700 ASAP. my two main closed backs are the akg k361 and the bose qc45. both are fantastic, but not quite the same work horse that my 560s is for my home studio
K361 .... I mean my $20 Tribit ,a tiny water proof bluetooth earbuds is better than it
The difference in sound quality is very ... subtle ,honestly they sound almost the same
Don’t understand why so many RUclipsrs recommend it ...Quite shocked actually
@@trendqiang3921 Bullshit
@@trendqiang3921 headphones are not the issue here but source used, if you are connecting k361s to your phone with no AMP then no suprise it sounds same or worse than your cheaper wireless headphones
Lord what took Beyerdynamic SO LONG to give us detachable cables!! Literally THE reason that kept me from getting the former models.
slowly releasing stuff 1 by 1. thats the way for all dang tech companies.....
Now they have to make some decent comfortable headbands left to make and we'll have what we need xD
Got both the hd560s and dt900 pro x for Christmas. I enjoy both of them for different reasons. Overall I think i prefer the dt900 pro x for most genres of music because of the bass and fullness. I still find them much more detailed than my old hd599 and the soundstage is still decent. I think I prefer the hd560s for classical music and gaming because of the detail and sound stage.
What games do you play with them?
I found the treble peak on the 990 was all the stock pads. Now have perforated leather and probably won't upgrade at this point. These look great though.
Tbh it would be amazing if they make the 800 as this hyper detailed but also flat masterpiece
or a new version of the DT 1770, so the DT 1700 then :)
@@RabbitConfirmed could be neat
@@Poor_Wayfaring_Stranger ruclips.net/video/Wv22GZVq7PE/видео.html
Just found your answer btw. Probably won't going to make a DT 800 it seems
@@RabbitConfirmed welp that sucks
@@RabbitConfirmed I'm sticking with my DT880 Edition 32 Ohm, if only because of the much more comfortable contact pressure of only 2.8N. I could imagine 3.5 but anything above that would be too tight for me.
TYGR 300R vs 900 Pro X for FPS gaming, fire away!
Badseed tech has mentioned that tygr is still the best possible option for gaming in his 900/700 review (as long as you dont mind the undetachable cable) you should check out his videos, he points out a lot of things for audio in gaming
you can check Fresh Reviews' videos
I just bought these over the 560s mainly to listen to music even though the sennies seem a bit better since the beyers are built so much better
Just picked up a set of the 900x’s and they’re really an interesting headphone to me. I’m a producer/songwriter/musician and they sound “neutral” to me. I use studio monitors with room calibration software and going back and forth is really comfortable. My first impression: these have my favorite lowend of any headphone I’ve tried outside of planars. It just feels like bass in a well controlled room to me. Never boomy, extremely detailed and nimble but unobtrusive. I like the tuning of the highs a lot, it avoids the ear fatiguing bump of other Beyer’s. The mids are where I’m not sure yet. They do actually sound slightly “dampened” compared to my Senn 6xx. Detail retrieval isn’t as good in that range, BUT, I still need to burn them in. Could open up more. I like the soundstage for mixing a lot. It’s not crazy wide or anything but everything is clearly delineated in the stereo field. Long story short: these are really comfortable for me as someone who relies on monitors primarily. They feel like a solid “Jack of all trades” middle ground for the work I do :)
I’m very close to pulling the trigger on these as well. Sounds like your low end translates well from these headphones to the car, phone speaker, etc?
@@bc_beats it does. I’d say the low end and the transient response is my favorite aspect of these cans. The low end isn’t boosted, so it’s not a bass head kind of frequency response. But what’s there feels tight and well represented going to sub. The weakness is midrange detail IMO; the Sennheiser 6xx feels more resolving in that range for example. I prefer the lows on the Beyers though a lot. The other aspect to be aware of is that the 900x isn’t super wide sounding. Image/soundstage is good but airs closer to the intimate side for open backs. But nice, balanced, punchy representation of the music. Definitely my fav Beyers I’ve tried.
@@mrnelsonius5631 thanks for sharing!!
I'm extremely interested in these versus my Neumann NDH20 for professional work
So the Pro line is great for Pros, that's what I like to hear
Once people are able to do a pad swap, I'm betting these will be phenomenal
Thats what im thinking.
Awesome review, thanks
Hi there! I'd like to ask which one of these are good for gaming like FPS and as a daily driver. Many thanks!
First of your videos I've seen. Immediately subbed when you mentioned your plugs, I'm at an inch and it's over-ear and on-ear impact can be very annoying. Glad you thought to say something about that!
Hello thank you for the review. I have a question please. I am relatively new to world of HiFi. I am planning to buy 900 Pro X for listening to my audio. I like headphones that provide wide open soundstage which to me is the opposite of headphones that provide an experience like the sound is coming from inside your head. How are the pro 900x in that regard? Can I expect a sound like I'm listening to speakers instead of headphones? Thanks
Being a German name, "Beyer" is pronounced like the English word "buyer."
No "ei" in the word, so there isn't a reason to pronounce with an "I" sound. You can see some common alternate spellings "Bayer", so he pronounced it absolutely correctly
@@ActionMan153 nah. JediJoker is absolutely right, the only right way to pronounce them is as the english word "buyer". But I don't think anybody should really care, everybody will know anyway what you are talking about, so whatever.
@Maya S. Sweet response lol our language roots are similar lol
@@ActionMan153 No. "buyer" is the correct pronounciation. Doesn't matter if it's "ei", "ey", "ai", or "ay". Those are just historical differences. Rarely you can even find "ej". Source: am german.
@Maya S. Hast dich einfach an die englische Aussprache gewöhnt. :P
Are tubes in the background the xduoo TA26 and McIntosh MHA200? I do hope we get a review of thse soon :)
Plan to replace my hd650 with the dt900! The 650 have made my mixes a lot better but is so unplesant to listen on (to me). I deffinetely feel like I'm gona miss the detail and tighter bass but these just seem to fit my taste in tuning, fit and statig so much better!
Wow, they really improved on the 990.
I personally think that worn pad 990 is still a fantastic headphone and is better than the 900 pro x.
@@SugaFree2387 LOL
Hi. How do you think the 48ohm impedance on the DT 700 Pro X will handle the 12 ohm output impedance on my source? Will use it on a guitar modeller with the mentioned output impedance and an audio interface with a 10ohm output impedance.
Been really torn between the Pro X and the DT 770 250ohm for weeks now.
Help.
Amiron is the follower to DT880 and, imo, Beyer's best headphone (still in production).
I have the tygr and had the mmx100 neither are great just good or okay for gaming now are these any better my best head set was the turtle beach seven pro best sound separation specially at gun shots & position.
Ok..being I got the Sennheiser 6xx and Hifiman Diva Pro in my cart trying to decide, where then will the 900 Pro X fit for sound?
What a great comment~ I want to reconfirm that I am a gamer~ mainly used in the three aspects of games~~ movies~ music~ and I already have HD560S, do I need to consider DT 700 and 900 proX?
I have a pair of Yamaha HS8s in my recording studio, when I monitor on these and put my DT700 Pro X on, the sound stage and the EQ curves very similar, and this is a first for me, I was going to go for the 900 Pro X but decided on the 700 Pro X. Im glad I did. They are comfy, built like a tank, all parts changeable and over all a good sound, but what's more, its also tells you when a mix sounds shite, and being a musician, mixing engineer, producer etc, they are good for what they are. Coming from a pair of ATH-m50x, these are soooooo much better, I think the Audio Techika are over hyped, these have much better bass, and generally a warmer sound, less brighter and a better natural sound.
Dms have you tried the beyer amps ? If yes do you recommend them for the 880 600 ohms ?
FINALLY!!!
How do the closed backs compare to the Neumann NDH20 and the DT1770Pro?
Would have liked to know the differences comparing to the 990/770, Pro, Edition, 80 Ohm, 250 Ohm,... everyone in detail and under 4 hours... seriously though, mostly just if they are again making that mess of a product portfolio. :D
Did you mention the connector type for the detachable cable?
Thank you
Got the audio Technica M50x so I wonder if they are worth switching out with one of these headphones 🎧
What are better than these DTs for audiophile in this $300 price range? Thanks in advance.
thanks!
in the uk at least, the dt880's are allmost the same price as the 700/700 pro x, yet the 770/990 pro are both around £110
Nice video as always! I was wondering how the 900 PRO X compare to the TYGR 300 R for gaming? Both competitive fps and nice RPG immersion.
You might also want to consider the HarmonicDyne Zeus. From everything I've heard it has great positional audio and soundstage.
@@eatscrayons4538 Hey thanks for your input😄, I'll give them a look👍
Are you ever going to take a look at the t1 gen3?
So would you say that, say, the DT 770 80 Ohm is better for detail music listening?
The ear gauges seem to match the headphones visually. I think it is good to be coordinated 👂.
Please make a comparison between the DT 900 Pro X and the 1990 Pro!!!
Would a pad swap help with the dampened experience?
I feel like there won’t be a dt 800x because the dt 900x is like an in between of 880 and 990 signature. Mayb they should have called it dt 890x instead.
shout out to the stretched ear gang! i'm sitting over here with 14mm and definitely have to take them out to enjoy most headphones.
hi i looking for open back headphones for laptop with out amplifier , under usd 300. i use multi type music movie gaming The sound I like is mainly to be clear and have bass, but the bass should not be too heavy, because too heavy bass will cause the sound to be distorted, and it is not good if there is no bass.
which one you recommend? senheiser, beyer , hifiman , philips, AKG ? and what model ? thanks
I tried many headphones today which include the dt 990, dt 900, dt 1990 and hd 650 (with proper dac/amp in musicstore). Out of the box the dt 900 sound best in my opinion. The dt1990 were a touch better in soundstage and bringing things subtly, but were incredibly harsh, for me it wasnt just around the 8khz but the entire high frequency range. To me, for my kind of music (lets say tech house, techno, trap instrumentals, dubstep and hardstyle), dt 1990 were not more detailed than 900. So it was most definitely not worth 200 euro's more, especially if you need to eq it or buy custom filters/pads. Also dt900 easier to drive was convience for me not buying headphone amp but running it straight out of audio interface. Ended up buying dt 900 for mixing and mastering, I think they sound crazy good for the experiences i've had. In the end if possible, I would recommend trying out a lot headphones if possible to make the best purchasing decision for you. Also please dont kill me for having an opinion
Interesting. I found the difference in detail to be huge. Soundstage was also better on the 1990. Yes the beyer peak is there and you should eq that. Also I highly recommend using the balanced pads instead of the analytical ones. So in my opinion the 1990 are better. With that said. The 900 pro x sound very good for its price and i really liked the frequency response out of the box. You just plugged it in and they were fine and enjoyable. Gaming also great with these.
In contrast to the review though I really cant recommend the 700 pro x. They dont have the advantages of the 900 pro x (frequency response, soundstage) and are just always lacking that detail.
Right now, my daily drivers are these and the Shure SRH 1540s. Perfect compliments for me. The Shures are wide with excellent midrange detail, but also very relaxed. Not fast and a little looser in the low-end. The 900x are tighter in the lows, nimble with a more “solid” presentation, just not quite as detailed. Frequency response wise they are both “neutral” enough and well balanced for the work I do. I think the 900x are more fun and the Shures are more analytical.
I have the SONY7506, they are good but the cup is too shallow, which makes my ears hurts sometimes. SO which would be better to replace SONY? 900 or 700?
I am having this weird issue when im using the dt700 pro x. I’m getting this electric noise kinda like rapid clicks and pops pingponging in the headphones from time to time. I don’t know what to do as it’s hard to pinpoint the issue. I am using my dt700 with an audio interface (presonus audiobox itwo) which is connected to my MacBook Pro m1 2020 through a powered usb hub (caldigi element hub)
1:53 those tunnels looked stupid anyway, great review btw!
Surely the 800 is on the way. HOPEFULLY. Fingers crossed.
I am using Audio-Technica ATH-M50 for the last six years for music production and never tried beyerdynamic and now I amConsidering an upgrade but on a budget
If i buy a 900 pro x ,do i get significant improvement in sound from the ath m50x
Having the DT900 Pro X and, sundara, DT1990 PRO, 560s, (etc) I highly disagree with the detail part. The DT900, have a ton of detail, it's like DT1990 pro and 560s had a baby. Paired w/ a proper amp, has amazing detail, both in highs and sub-bass.
Yup I agree. 900 Pro X has really nice detail, I’d put it above or around the Sundara level. And it’s surprisingly smooth. Only issue I had was the comfort, which is unfortunate considering it sounds great.
560s or r70x or 900x for pop and hiphop?
Is the sound signature anything like the original T1’s?
It looks like the DT700 Pro X has a very similar signature to the DT177X with Dekoni Suede pads
Between these two and the k361/371 which would be the most natural sounding for voiceover monitoring? No singing or instruments, just speech. Thanks Doug. You've not steered me wrong yet.
371
Those pads look absolutely STELLAR!!!
your hair looks good
I got the 700 X, I sent it back, there was a really weird upper mid, it was shouty! Soundstage was small ... meh! I have a DT1990 with dekoni elite velour so it's not really fair ^^
Was interested in trying the 900 Pro X, I have the Tygr’s, I guess i wont bother if you say the sound is too dampened and has less sound stage. I mostly play games but listen to music on occasion
Same here..tygr rulezz..coupled with ifi zen dac it.s heavenly
@@gabonesmith4750 it really is
In the end you have confused me..Does 900 has good soundstage - separation or better with the hd?
The first thing I noticed in the 700 pro x was it's lack of detail. But that allows me to listen to anything, all day, with no fatigue. They're cozy and they let me game in isolation with my ludicrously loud family around me. I think I'll keep them alongside my 560s and Sundara.
Do you use a amp? Also, how are the footsteps?
Hey it looks like my advice on the way the cups attach worked its way up from the instagram rep to the top! No more plastic tabs snapping off
If they ever update the Tygr I hope they leave the signature alone.
I wish you compared these to Tygr 300
So if you want a high impedance wouldn't you get the DT1990 Pros ?
8:26 Stellar 45 driver is only available in 48 ohms.
well, I tested the 990 Pro for 10 days. It sounds fantastic compared to my MDR-7506 that I'm used to. But, the bass was not impressive, and esp. given that I listen to techno. Also, the pesky 100mW power handling and lack of SPL was another reason why I returned them, even though I didn't want to because they sound so nice and are very comfortable, even with my eyeglasses on and wearing for hours on end. It seems like the 900 Pro X would beat out the 990 Pro, thus maybe worth it?
This is by far the most useful subjective review, as most just focus on tonality 9which is very subjective and a personal taste) Detail is critical, and so important, thanks for pointing this out, as I nearly went for a pair of the 700s!
can you help me with setting the EQ with an external app so that it is good for music listening?
So now it's time to watch your opinion on my top hp under 500 euro. Did you listen to the ATH-R70x?
are these any good for gaming or is the hd560s and 600 better?
would have liked to have it compared to 1770 and 1990 not just 770 and 990
great video as always, what would be better for gaming at of dt990 pro, 770 pro, 900 pro x or 700 pro x ?
900 pro x are great. 700 pro x definitely not. thats all I can say
If I want to record AND mix music - which one is best to buy?
Hello so can you suggest or do a video for a audiophile headphone under 500 usd thank you
I have 2 inch stretched ears, am I too far gone for these? 😂 Great review!
I've heard a lot of people having problems with the cables n the foam cussion on dt700's. Have many people had this problem?
Hey DMS! I use a pair of DT's 770PRO (80 Ohm) for my music production. I love them, they translate great to my speakers and I don't plan on changing them. Since I spend most of the time producing on the headphones, would you recommend a pair of DT's 900 Pro X for mixing? I've never had any experiences with an open back headphone but it seems to be the logical step.
Thank you for your work!
hey buddy, we might share same values on the usages, I have bought in 2016 dt 990 and tried later the 770 250ohm with regret not purchasing it becuase its better and less harshness on the highs. Now I was wondering lately for production and mixing, the dynamics and excitments on the 900's are good or the 700's since its a closed. Did you end up liking the 900's ?
never heard them called tunnels, in Australia we call them spacers. unless that's a different style entirely
*TL;DR* Are either of these for a professional bass player? I am going to keep carrying the Sennheiser Amperior for portable enjoyment, but looking to replace them for recording.
You say that these are great for a professional application. I am a bass player (mostly bass guitar, not a lot of work for uprights not already part of an ensemble these days), doing some infrequent lesser studio and session work. Would either of these be a good fit for me, or are they mostly drum-oriented? I would like to be able to hear myself in the mix, and when I am doing session work for metal groups, let's just say that this becomes difficult even with a 5-string. :p
I am currently using my Sennheiser Amperior because I have an ear issue from birth preventing me from using molded IEMs. They are honestly the least bad headphones in terms of sound I've found so far. Very good bass response, but maybe lacks on the volume side of bass. And they are NOT comfortable with glasses for prolonged sessions. Would either of these be better for me? I tried the DT 990 (600) upon recommendation and wow, they were garbage. Both professionally and for home use. They were a real "One note bass" headphone, and the first time I heard cymbal crashes in those nearly killed me. Maybe great for picking out flaws and good for recording bass lines for a small indie soundtrack, but not for laying a line with a wannabe metal drummer trying a little too hard. :p
*edit* I can't use Swedish grammar in English
The problem is the driver itself. They can tune the treble spike out with damping but it kills the detail.
So far the flatest headphones I heared are DT150 with Brainwavz pads and crossfeed. They sound like calibrated speakers.
I still really like them for music. Way better than the sivga sv021 which I had before.
Are talking about the 700’a or the 900’s?

TYGR 300R for its Imaging and overall use, HD560s for its soundstage and imaging along with clarity, or DT 900 Pro X? For 80 percent comp gaming at the highest level and 20 percent hifi audio listening, primarily well produced detailed EDM. I already own the TYGR and love them, just feels like they lack abit in clarity for music and could have better comp gaming from either 900 pro x or HD560s
I've compared the TYGR to the 1990 and my shp9500 and found them dreadful for gaming. Way to mudddy and bass boosted. I can imagine why people find them nice for bass heavy music and immersive gaming but for CS:GO and Apex (i.e. competitive
shooters) the Philips were much better.
