    1) No upgradable RAM. It's soldered on the motherboard.
    2) No upgradable SSD. It's soldered on the motherboard.
    3) The touch bar actually makes you work with more actions than needed. The dedicated physical keys are still the fastest way to work.
    4) Touch screen >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Touch bar.
    5) Too many dongles required to actually make this machine productive out of the box.
    Sorry, but I can only see flaws that make this laptop an overpriced piece of kit.
    There are plenty of actual PRO laptops out there that can and do perform way better for the same price tag.

      Mauro Sanna
      ...But perform worse due to not being as optimized as OS X.
      With well optimized firmware, you don't need 32 GB of ram and what do you do on your devices that requires you to have tons of storage?

    • @MauroSanna
      @MauroSanna 7 лет назад +36

      No, they perform way better.
      I expect at least 32 GB RAM from a pro computer.
      Firmware has nothing to do with memory amount and its speed.
      I work as a professional CG artist and I know very well what a "PRO" computer should do and how it should perform.
      If I wanted an expensive toy, then yes, the Macbook Pro would have been... No, wait, there still is better hardware among the competitors.
      And by the way, I have been working with Macs since more than 20 years, professionally. I still own a Mac at home, and I own Apple devices. So I know what I am talking about.
      Apple just doesn't care anymore about theur Pro user base. Simple as that.

      Obi Alfred
      Any Precision from Dell is fully upgradable, has professional GPUs (NVidia Quadro) and much faster CPU lineup.
      Other brands are also better thant the Appke Macboo Pro.
      Writing a list is pointless, just use your best friend, Google. If you work as a professional you will definitely know where and what to search for.
      You shouldn't even ask such a question.

    You need a dongle to connect your iPhone 7 to your Apple Macbook, that's Interesting. So a Surface Pro can charge/sync/backup an iPhone while a Macbook can't 😅

    "Ok guys, I'm gonna trash the Macbook Pro 2016, be warned Apple fans": Proceeds to make a >10 min completely apologetic video. These machines have some nice improvements, but there's several things wrong here (other than the lack of ports)
    First, the previous processors were really dated, so it was normal to expect a significant increase in performance, not just a marginal one.
    Second, you DO lose usability for not having function keys. You have to use them for many shortcuts. The point of shortcuts is that if you learn them, you can use them without taking the eyes off the screen just by mechanical memory. With non tactile response, contextualized virtual buttons, you must take your eyes off the screen and search the action you want to use.
    Just consider the difference between pressing crl+c (or the mac equivalent), to having to look at the touch bar, having to search the copy button on the touch bar, and then pressing and look again at the main screen. I use the function keys all the time, even just when I'm browsing. Now I can't imagine how impractical it must be for someone who has learnt +30 shortcuts for any professional program.
    So yeah, the touch bar could be a somewhat interesting feature if they hadn't taken off the fn keys AND the escape button. It's a stupid casualization of a supposedly pro machine.

      ***** "Just consider the difference between pressing crl+c (or the mac equivalent)" - that was an example for you to imagine why function keys are better than the touch bar. Try to imagine having to use the touch bar instead of Cmd+C.

    • @jmiquelmb
      @jmiquelmb 7 лет назад +1

      Samuel Lakatoš Thanks. Yes this is exactly what I meant. I just used the copy shortcut because it's probably the most well known of all.
      But there are many examples with the fn keys. Even in chrome, f5 or f6 are very useful.
      And answering to another comment, yes, I have used mac computers plenty of times. I just don't own one and I don't know the shortcuts.

    • @jmiquelmb
      @jmiquelmb 7 лет назад +3

      ***** Wrong: support.apple.com/en-us/HT204436
      Also, you could claim that it says there's an option to make the function keys permanent. True. But what's the point in having the same keys, but with zero tactile feedback then? Was it really so difficult to make space for another row of keys with an slightly smaller touchpad (which is gigantic), if they wanted to add the touchbar so much?

    • @Honeypot-x9s
      @Honeypot-x9s 7 лет назад +1

      We Play Wax Intel created thunderbolt and own it apple only dominates it on there laptops because it follows there simplicity as well it's impossible to force everyone to custom proprietary plugs in a professional workstation system. Then there's some arctical I read about an ex Intel executive mentioning thunderbolt and why Apple is only company with it being that they are the only company with the structure and custom part cost wasn't that much for Apple since the profit margins were so high. Maybe other reasons such as kick backs, but otherwise no apple didn't design or create or patent USB type c or thunderbolt ..
      They can get away with closing things down and making custom chargers and cables on phones and tablets because that's the nature of those devices they always been like that (before smartphones and since)
      Side note: my Z170 skylake desktop has USB-type C with thunderbolt 3.0. Same with my asus gaming laptop... and yes it supports external GPUs as well.. both of these have had it before Apple combined USB C with thunderbolt.

    The new touchbar is a nice upgrade, if you look just at the macbook line. But if you know that you could have a full touchscreen with pen support, it becomes a gimmick.

    Hey Jono,
    Its not so much that the touch bar is not a good update over the standard function keys, to me, it is that I have waited so long for a Macbook Pro update and how they integrated the touch bar is not good (its just not, admit it).
    I feel it would have been awesome to use some of that track pad real estate and add an AMOLED track pad that adds some extra functionality (most used function button on the side), as when I used this touch bar I had to look down and what I wanted to touch, where as with the standard function keys I can feel them and have muscle memory as to where they are so there is no need to look up (I felt myself using the onscreen options with the mouse over the touch bar).
    The touch bar should have been place above the track pad, or replaced the last line of keys on the keyboard such as the space bar, CMD keys etc....... then you will not need to look up and reach OVER the keyboard to add an emoji.
    I did purchase the Touch bar model, actually the exact model you showed in your video. I then changed this and took a maxed out Macbook Pro with no touch bar as that bar is not a game changer it is a gimmick, no matter how you sugar coat it, it does not warrant the price jump. I also have a Macbook (2016 model) and I find myself using this more than the Macbook Pro. At the end of the day when you are choosing an Apple product and have the money to purchase one, every spec and function MATTERS. Purchasing a Windows laptop you tend to make more exceptions to functionality as it is cheaper and generally has better specs (optimization of OS aside as apple is the best here).
    Should you have a Maxed out or standard older Macbook Pro only upgrade if you can sell it for a decent price. Love the videos, dont like that you, MKBHD, Austin etc....are all clones of one anther, same angles, camera styles and presentation, a little more personality would be great as if I watch an Austin video I automatically know you will have the same product to showcase and will be reading from the same script, only with some word changed.
    Dont be a sell out dude, this video overall looks like one big Apple commercial LOL, RUclips audience will call you out, we control shit.

      Everyone here is convinced there's some giant conspiracy and that there's no way a newer MacBook pro is actually faster than an older MacBook pro.

      You're the one blinded by apple (or either you need to improve your reading skills). He complained about the touchbar, not the performance (which btw, is still a fair complain, as the previous processors were really outdated, and a bigger improve was expected). He said he bought the non touch bar version to have the fn keys. How can be an apple hater if he said he bough a pro, replaced it by another version, and even more, he already had a macbook 12? He probably is an older mac user than you. Really, this attitude is just toxic. You can disagree with him, but not everyone who complains is a hater. Stop acting like a cultist.

Btw I'm not a fanboy but rather believe that these are tools rather than life changing/ altering tools ;-) these tests are in line with the targeted audience not real technical pro's but prosumers so I see no problem with this fashion of testing

    Not a fanboy, but I really hate when anybody says a company like Apple is not innovative. Design, UI, and and convenience are all subjective matters that cannot be factored into whether something is innovative or not. Specs are objective and can be: and every iPhone has a faster processor, better battery, better screen resolution, and more complex AI and software than every previous iPhone. Therefore, objectively, they are innovating their phones. Like you said, people need to look at things for what they are..Not for what they want them to be.
    After all, what else do you want your fucking phone to do?

    • @JHA854
      @JHA854 7 лет назад +1

      Captain Obvious but Apple isn't innovative anymore. Look at what companies like Samsung and Xiaomi are doing, then look at the iPhone... It hasn't changed in 3 years. The new MacBooks are pretty much the same as the old ones, while Microsoft are making awesome laptops and tablets. Apple used to lead the way when it comes to innovation, now they are constantly behind everyone else. Faster processor and better battery life isn't innovative, it's expected and every new phone has that. And the screen resolution on the iPhone is behind everyone else, it hasn't changed in years. Look at the Microsoft Studio... everyone was amazed by it and it's beautiful. I can't remember the last time Apple did something exciting, they've lost it in the last few years.

    • @captainobvious1415
      @captainobvious1415 7 лет назад

      J Hughes Everything you've just said was completely subjective and only applies to you as an individual. Your own personal feelings.
      "I can't remember the last time Apple did something exciting."
      That applies to YOU. To some, the touch bar may be the most incredible thing they've ever seen.
      Irrespective of what other companies are doing, and regardless of if their tech is more powerful or less, every iPhone and mac is more powerful than the last and has been that way since Apple was created and since 2007 when the iPhone came out. From an objective standpoint, Apple is innovating it's tech, by the very definition of the word.

    • @headcharge871
      @headcharge871 7 лет назад

    The problem isn't the touch bar. It's that they expect us to pay £700 more for it (Comparing it to last years 512GB 16GB Ram model) priced at £2000 vs £2700. They're so smug in their presentations when they really have no right to be; offering ok specs, very little innovation, barely any aesthetic changes, for extortionate money. 2015 macbook pro's were already a little overpriced by maybe £200-300 more than the equivalent PC because their build quality and design is top notch. I don't mind this and accept it. But really they have gone to far in making it possibly £1000 more than equivalent (or better) spec PCs. I used to be a fan. Not anymore.

    Rather than being jaded, I think you reviewers are giving apple way too much slack. That, coupled with the fact that most reviewers have a "Herp derp Works for Me!" mentality and fail to take other usecases into account makes most of these reviews useless for the majority of the people you're criticizing. It's almost as if reviewers are making these reviews for themselves.

    • @itxofficial8281
      @itxofficial8281 7 лет назад +6

      I totally agree with what Jake said. He nails what I think about the whole RUclips tech community: There's way to much panegyrizing going on recently!! Yes, we DO appreciate new innovative features, but that doesn't mean we simply ignore any other negative aspect about a new product. Thing is: Yes, the touchbar is pretty awesome, and I can see many companies taking useful advantages of it. BUT that doesn't make up for the lack of USB ports, SD card readers etc. If USB-C was a universal port that would suddenly make any other USB port obsolete, that would have been a wise decision. But it's 2016 for god's sake. Apple fanboys might argue that Apple is ahead of its time - too far ahead if you ask me!!

    • @itxofficial8281
      @itxofficial8281 7 лет назад +1

    • @alexvavvas4875
      @alexvavvas4875 7 лет назад +2

      Are you guys kidding me. ALL other youtubers are going hard on Apple and mention and emphasize all the downsides. Instead this takes it more lightly. Sure he dismisses some issues as minor as you said, but its not that he is lying or anything.
      Besides the price, which was always an issue, this machine is not much different than any other ultrabook out there. It might not be as innovative or good as the older models were for their time, but come on.
      Again, not saying that the review is not flawed, but most other reviews out there are not either. This just focuses on the brighter side.

    Look, I understand that you are a huge Apple fan. As a reviewer, you should be completely honest. This computer brought so many disappointments to Mac users. First of all, the touch bar is stupid, Pro users use keyboard shortcuts and it's much faster than expanding touch menus and trying to locate certain functions. You mentioned switching among tabs in Safari, I do it with control+tab and control+shift+tab. It's much faster than reaching out almost to the screen to tap it. Also, you got the trackpad which is much easier to reach. And please don't mention emojis because it's stupid. If I told you that there is a small touch peripheral pad that displays your emojis and it's 300$ would you buy it?? Yes, it's helpful to display emojis this way but it doesn't justify the price. With no power, older CPU, AMD graphics!!, and lots of dongles to worry about it's just not worth it.

  • @cruzer6181
    @cruzer6181 7 лет назад +84

    This is not a "PRO" laptop. Apple feels the need to take away features that pro users often use. Dongles are not a solution. It just shows the MBP is now an incomplete laptop and can't be useful unless you buy more things. The fact Apple doesn't even make the iPhone, their own product, compatible is insane.
    You buy a $3K "PRO" laptop and you can't even plug in a hard drive, stick drive or ... anything. You can't even plug in your iPhone!
    So, you have to do your research and piece meal together a bunch of dongles. Boy, that's so portable, easy and sleek!
    Touch bar is a novelty but why loose all the function keys that pro users often quick key with? Why not ADD a touch bar and not take away keys?
    A touch bar will never be as fast as keys because you can't just go by feel.
    EMOTICONS? Really? Click-swipe with a mouse is seriously slower than that touchbar? Come on.
    Why not ADD "the future" ports to USB 3, and all the other ports? How about MORE ports? Isn't this a PRO laptop?
    Why no MAGSAFE? So you really only have 3 ports since power will often be used.
    Why bump the price even on the 13" MB that they didn't even change?
    Apple went backwards with this MBP. It's designed like it should be a Macbook or Macbook Air.
    There is nothing pro about it.

    • @cruzer6181
      @cruzer6181 7 лет назад +1

      It's not really baffling but very cynical towards the users. Basically they de-contented, raised the price and only changed superficial things that appeal to casual users.
      Many photo and video pros use the SD slot, and that's gone. The thing that makes a laptop impressive is INTEGRATION. It's sleek because it can do everything from the chassis.
      This MBP is not sleek, not pro grade. I expect the next gen MBP will not have a keyboard and you will have to dongle it if you want to type. .. Wait, isn't that the IPad ? Yes, now you know where Apple is going with their Pro laptops.
      What surprises me are the positive reviews that do not fully address fundamental problems and just buy into silly apple hype

    When a new Macbook Pro comes out your old one is not obsolete, the new one might not be to your liking but the new things became standard by the time you are ready for an upgrade. A fellow student of mine (I am studying physics) bought a spec-ed out MBP in 2011 and it is still fine. Mine might have a nicer Retina display but his is still long-lasting and well built and fast.

    Touch bar pretty pointless in comparison to the touch screen Microsoft are doing... apple used to innovate. Then Steve Jobs died rest his soul and all those underdogs who he wouldn't shift for are now top dogs and dragging apple through a shit pool thinking this is innovative and fresh... and that sacrificing connectivity, sustainability, upgradeability for a few mm thinner macbook (-pro) is what its all about... I'm a creative and i shifted to Mac because apple catered to this industry more so than Microsoft now it seems they have lost that edge. R.I.P... p.s don't give a shite about anybody else opinion, thats your own i will not entertain it as my mind is set, and who are you to change it.

      @TackKeyNack 7 лет назад

      Dean Gatenby, who are you to dictate whether or not somebody would reply to your comment? It isn't revolutionary, although it's a nice addition. Touchscreen is another topic altogether. Not everybody would love it, although it is admittedly a nice addition. It'd probably cost at least $200 more for the touchscreen alone.

    • @colgiljnr
      @colgiljnr 7 лет назад +2

      Not dictating... your volunteering... i was simply making it clear my mind was set, and another opinion wouldn't change it so don't try... are you attempting to try?
      An extra $200 for a full touch screen would be fine... for moe functionality, compared to the $299 you have to pay for a little gimmicky LCD you have to look at when using it. if you like then thats great... no idea what a professional would use it for given you have to focus on that when using it instead of on the actual screen.
      Whatever floats ya boat... my stance remains.

    • @TechnologyCatalyst

      Yes, weighing in at 10 lbs and being the size of a dorm room refrigerator. Nobody buys a MacBook Pro for gaming, so what's the point of comparing it to a fat and heavy gaming laptop with 10 minutes of battery life to a thin and light productivity machine? Price is only stupid if nobody is willing to pay it. TONS of people pay for these laptops without even blinking. It's the same reason the whole luxury car industry exists. You can buy a fully loaded Kia for less than the cost of a base Audi that has fewer options and creature comforts, but you're still driving a fucking Kia. That's the point. Some people don't care if you can get more for their money elsewhere, they have a brand preference, and lots of times with good justification. Ever consider resale value? It's shit on PC. Macs hold their value really well. Factor that in and the price of a new MacBook seems less significant. What about reliability and customer satisfaction? And support? Apple always tops those charts when people like JD Power and Consumer reports gather info on such metrics.

    You just forgot to mention THE MANY YES MANY BAD THINGS ABOUT MAC BOOK PRO 16. God for a biased review. il make a little list since u seem to forget ALOT.
    -Bad keyboard with almost no travel distance (not acceptable for writters)
    -High keyboard "smashing" sound (almost like punching hard plastic)
    -ALOT of USb 3 devices that is connected to an adapter over USB C.., makes WIFI stop working on mac pro 16 (yes this is an issue for many )
    -Mag SAFE gone !!
    - Horrible at gaming.., Even low hardware req. games lag. (battlesiege unplayable. mafia 3 barely playable at the lowest settings!)
    16 GB ram MAX. Alot of us "pro" users need atleast 32 gb ram for our software to run smoothly.
    Barely any repair-ability if some senors go wrong (as been reported as a problem *faulty sensors) but ready to pay alot to fix it when warranty goes out.
    -Overly High price compered to what the machine actually can do when the competition can so much more

    The test of coverting files has a lot to do with the storage writing and reading speeds, and like you showed us, its 40% faster than the MBP 2015, so your "tests" pretty much doesnt show that the MBP 2016 is faster than the MBP 2015.
    And your excuse of the touchbar being not a gimmick is just lame.
    Worst MBP ever.

    • @zeus1117
      @zeus1117 7 лет назад +1

      Mathias Schroder converting files has more to do with CPUs. If the CPUs are similar THEN and only then counts the secondary point which is SSD speeds.

    • @DarkMath123
      @DarkMath123 7 лет назад +1

      zeus1117 Of course it has a lot to do with the cpu, but it has a lot to do with writing and reading speed too, if you have a super powerfull CPU but crappy reading/writing speed it will still be slow, since it has to read the file to convert it and then write it again in the hdd or sdd. In this case, the last year CPU is actually better (not by a lot), and the differences in converting speed has more to do with the writing/reading difference between the 2 MBP, in which the gap is bigger.

    • @foljs5858
      @foljs5858 7 лет назад

      >so your "tests" pretty much doesnt show that the MBP 2016 is faster than the MBP 2015.
      There's nothing about "storage writing and reading speeds" that will speed up the conversion of a Premiere file of a few GB to the extend shown here. SSD read/write will make apps load much faster, because they are mostly bound by IO. The video rendering tests he did are bound by GPU/CPU.
      That said, even if that wasn't the case, the machine would STILL be faster than the MBP 2015 in those tasks. If your machine does a task in 20% less or even half the time, only an idiot would complain about whether it does it because of faster CPU or faster GPU or faster disk, or faster BUS etc. It does it in LESS TIME, period.
      >And your excuse of the touchbar being not a gimmick is just lame.
      Lots of professional musicians and video editors, for one, paid good money for such "gimmicks" in the form of the Lemur and other context-sensitive touch strips and panels. And the Optimus Prime keyboard which offers customizable OLED keys goes for $1000+ (the keyboard alone).
      >Worst MBP ever.
      Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

    • @DarkMath123
      @DarkMath123 7 лет назад +2

      foljs You have absolutly no idea of what you are saying, the Touch bar is indeed a gimmick, with almost no support from adobe and other editing programs (for now) and tou compare it with the Optimus Maximus keyboard which has amoled screens in every key and was used by gamers, NOT EDITORS, look at the reviews, it sucked for editing photos and videos because it was too cumbersome.
      And let be honest, only amateurs use MBP, real pros dont buy laptops.

    • @zeus1117
      @zeus1117 7 лет назад +1

      Mathias Schroder Exactly. Nobody does serious work on a touchpad or touchbar. It's only something rough for on the go, or when you are not doing serious stuff. There are professional mice and Wacom tablets for example.

    Apple has completely lost touch with reality, and fan boys like me (and most of you) look like idiots when we say stupid things like removing ports from a machine is "innovation" and "the future."
    Stripping ports from a computer is NOT innovation, it is a ChromeBook.
    For the foreseeable future, video cameras will continue to store video on SD cards. That means removing internal SD card readers from the MacBook Pro isn't readying us for "the future" at all, it is merely Apple prioritizing its image for pretty design over our need to get work done.
    Number of people laying awake at night wishing Apple would make the new MacBook Pro 11mm thinner: ZERO.
    Number of people who use internal SD card readers and ports, that will continue to need those ports for the next 3+ years? Pretty much everyone.
    Apple is the only company I know of where "Space Gray" is a newsworthy feature... and the world is laughing at us.

    • @foljs5858

      They are adapter cords. Dongles are something else entirely -- and most Pros have to use dongles all the time for video, music, etc professional software that requires it. Dongles take a whole USB port without doing anything apart from letting you unlock and use the software. Google iLok etc.
      That said, one only needs one "dongle" -- a dock with several USB, thunderbolt, etc ports and that's it. And in 6 months/a year's time there will be all sorts of USB-C supporting devices/cables anyway.

    • @janvanderkruijssen4579
      @janvanderkruijssen4579 7 лет назад +3

      Just quit the whining on all the Dongles....
      the only thing you actually need a dingle for is SD-Cards....
      All other things can be replaced (and will be in the future)... how much of your OLD usb thumb drives are you still using ? USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 stuff will come to the market... Until then suck it up !
      And yes, I do understand replacing stuff costs money, but if you can spend €2700 on a new laptop, spending another 2% to 5% on replacing a few cables won't break the bank either

    • @MarcoChapita
      @MarcoChapita 7 лет назад

      Jan van der Kruijssen you shouldn't think that way. Youre thinking wrong. So if you have money to buy a expensive car that doesn't bring wheels, you can afford to spend more just because you buy an extremely expensive car???? Apple should think a little more. So they sale an iPhone that is used worldwide and they put the MacBook on sale now that you can't plug without an adapter???

  • @themawaali
    @themawaali 7 лет назад

    Its not about rolling with the change. Its about what aspects of a product customers are comfortable with. Battery I think is the most important factor. Emojis are ok but people don't want to put their finger on the top every time they have to paste an emoji on the message box. A lot of people write code on the macbook pro (preferably) so they use the Esc key on the top left a lot. Now its gone getting used to touching on a screen will take longer to adjust. Also you didn't mention how long did your battery last with usage.
