    Hey!
My name is Jake and I host group adventure trips around the world.
In this video I was on my way to Greece and had a 12 hour layover in Paris.
I thought it would be a fun idea to take a train into the city while waiting for my plane, but it quickly turned into one of the most stressful city experiences I've ever had.
But I do think tasting a croissant was worth it😉

Glad I'm not the only one who freaks out in cities haha. Next videos from Greece will be much happier lol

Going inside Paris without a plan was not great because it is a big city and the way from the airport to the center takes a while and is not the best. There are extremely beautiful places in Paris, but going there with the state of mind you had was not a great idea. You had a close minded idea of Paris before going, you went randomly to a place and stayed with your close minded idea. I am not from Paris but I lived there for 10 years and I will cherish the memories of those years, the good and the bad. PS: there are public bathrooms in Paris, you just need to know how they look like.

@@irisouyart well that’s good to hear that some people like it! I’m sure there are good places to see there. It was definitely kinda cool to have a croissant at a cafe. But I’ve just never enjoyed cities. Maybe I just need a good guide😉

Hi, please don't go in a large city unprepared without knowing anything about it (especially sleep deprived, definitely doesn't help haha), and then say it's stressful and unpleasant! You could have asked about things in english to people, they would have helped you.
If you ever return to Paris from Charles de Gaulle airport, you should look for the RER B signs and follow them, then when you are at the station you could either buy one from a machine, or go to the counter and buy one from the person there, they speak english fine. Châtelet les Halles is the biggest station and the central one, but you could have stopped at other smaller stations a little further. There are a lot of nice landmarks and monuments, and if you want wilderness, there are multiple parks inside of the city, and two forests on the east and west

You know, I never thought I would get so many people commenting in support of Paris. Are you a local? It seems like a lot of people have a much different view of it than I did when I checked the city out.

@@jakekblue I'm from France and I went walking in Paris often. I'm not really sure to understand what you didn't like about the city, in the video you seem to already have a lot of prejudices about Paris even if you're surrounded by historical architecture and normal people living their lives

@@aur.c it’s interesting hearing your perspective as someone who grew up around the city. And I believe you that there are some nice places. My opinion comes from me growing up in a small town of 600 people in the mountains with bears, moose, deer, wolves, and big lakes to swim in. So whenever I’m in a big city, I’m immediately uncomfortable. Didn’t like Athens, Los Angeles is awful for me, New York gives me anxiety just looking at it. Paris is the same thing. It’s too much concrete for me to feel comfortable. I LOVED the croissants. And clearly you’re a friendly person as well. But I would personally never choose to go to a city for any sort of “fun”. I only go through them to get to beautiful places like Zakythos, Greece for this trip.

@@jakekblue it's completely understandable, if you ever come back to france, there are very beautiful places in the countryside, and much smaller cities than paris to visit (paris has 13 million inhabitants, other french cities don't have more than 2 million...)

If you're lost or wonder if you're in the right train, why don't you just ask someone ? We Parisians are grumpy and in a hurry, but we don't bite. Also : there's nobody in the streets ! Looks like a Sunday morning. Everything closed on rue de Rivoli.

I don't get why you're so scared. You're from the states ? Should be much more dangerous.
You could have had a look on a map before. Tickets you get at vending maschines.
Paris is awesome. I'm just back from Paris. Loved it.

@@connycatlady7429 I’m so happy you love it. For me, I just see no reason to ever go back. Absolutely brutal with zero wilderness presence and it’s really hard for me to be in places like that.

Macarons are tricky. Plain bakery macarons are rarely good. You need to go to a place that specializes in macarons. You can try Ladurée (they have shops in the States) or better Pierre Hermé or Jean-Paul Hévin. Be prepared to fork out quite a bit. A small, bite-size macaron is about 3€. In a plain bakery, stick to croissants and pain au chocolat (same dough as croissants, different shape and chocolate inside, usually partly sticking out on both sides) or pain aux raisins (like a cinnamon roll with raisins but without the cinnamon). Come back, I'll show you around.

Yo, that sounds freaking delicious. I just had the plain bread croissant and it was SO good compared to what I’ve had in the states. I would love to try some
      More delicious pastries like that.

@@jakekblue I know the place you went to, their croissants are actually very good. AND you were lucky, it was early in the morning when they are fresh.Croissants and baguette don't keep very well. A good baguette is still a bit warm from the oven. They have a bad surface to volume ratio so they dry out quickly. They can also go limp and chewy on a rainy day. A good bakery bakes baguettes at least twice a day. What you had was the now rare "ficelle" (string), even trickier. Good for you !

Slightly insulting that you showed up to Paris with no plan, no time and by your own admission, a terrible mindset and proclaim at the end that you “did Paris”. Paris is soooooooooo much more than coffee and croissants…. Don’t write it off yet.

Hahahah. Yeah, guilty 😅 I think the zero hours of sleep had something to do with that lol.
