I remember this one in the 1980s! The remodel makes me sad, especially with the wall to wall carpet - the tile they had was so much fun. I see what they are trying to do with the vacant store fronts, it just looks strange, the photos of the community is cool.
The remodel was a little shocking and unexpected being back since 2017. Have to disagree on the old 1990s flooring. It was a relief when it was gone. The 1970s flooring was the real deal!
I was there the day it opened. It was a big deal then. I remember hanging out at Aladin's Caslte Arcade and checking out the latest cassette tapes at Camelot Music.
I was hoping they would show its original greatness , your description gave me many childhood flashbacks, I was in KB toys all through the 80s begging my mom for the newest starwars or gijoe, even some he-man
I had so many memories inside this mall. My mother managed several stores in its time and myself and friends spent a lot of time inside Aladins castle arcade, York Steakhouse, KB, Spencer's Radio Shack, Record town, and all the Christmas presents I've bought here. I drove by and snapped pics of them demolishing it yesterday and it's saddening!
I read all the comments below about how so many people have fond/not-so-fond memories of the Mall. For us even older folks we remember when stores were in downtown and other shopping locations about the city (insert any city name here). The malls killed them; online shopping will kill the malls, and, of course, video killed the radio star. Pat, in nearby Chicago
Behind those photos are empty rooms nothing because they are businesses that left/went out of business and when I was younger when I was in the mall I would hop on the colored floor I had a lot of memories there it’s sad of how it all fell apart I rarely ever go there now. It’s sad of what happened there were so many thriving businesses there but it eventually fell apart which still saddens me to this day.
I worked at 2 different stores at the mall starting Thanksgiving of 2000. One store permanently closed all of them & the other went into bankruptcy after several owners & ended up closing our store. Funny people always assume when a particular store closes it's because of lack of sales. The first store that went through bankruptcy was first in the district & second in the region for sales, but they closed us anyway. Our mall used to be a great place to go. Restaurants throughout the mall (I hate food courts). The cast of All My Children was there during their heyday. Spongebob was there (I worked a table with my boss for this one). Tiffany was there. Avril Lavigne was there. So much other things going on, too. Craft fairs, chess tournaments (my brother was part of the Racine Chess Club & they had several chess related events there), etc. So, sad. Yet there are malls thriving around the country.
I really think it can't compete with Gurnee mills nearby and the pleasant prairie plaza. I also really want to know who thought carpet would be a good idea.
me and my friend, locals of racine, thought it was funny that you asked the security guard out for lunch lol! anyways i really like this video, i’ve been trying to do some research on this mall since i cant really remember it for myself. i appreciate this video i truly do
Not many stores left so this will probably be empty in a few years. There are SO many empty stores in Racine its pitiful. Thank you online shopping!! It kills most everything.
Great video and I know how you feel I live in Racine and have tried to film in there twice before and got stopped I only got to film the whole place once in 2018
Cool video. All Hull malls look so much alike its strange. That carpet, lights and walls seem to be their thing. It looks identical to a little mall in Richmond IN that is also a Hull.
They ruined it. You should have seen it in 2006. It was a mid 2000s dream land complete with an extremely rare 'McSnack' McDonalds location inside that sold *hot dogs* among the normal stuff. Along with an incredible arcade, cool stores, and fun things to do. It was a great mall.
Sadly Lake hurst mall in Waukegan was torn down in the early 2000's before people started looking at dying malls. I have been to many Wisconsin malls that no longer exist.
I miss the old mall my cousin had a party there There was an arcade there was a bunch of places with food a bunch of stores I went through yesterday GameStop closed it’s gone every store that used to be there the OG stores are gone The places with food are gone everything is gone ever since 2016 or 17 everything just started leaving
The movie theater was never part of the mall. Maybe the mall had ownership? We did call it Regency Cinemas but it was well across the parking lot. I assume they would definitely remove any wall they wanted if ever they could find a legit store that wanted to go in there. Was Eitels once a glow golf store? Lol. There was one somewhere but I’m not 100% sure if it was there.
This week they started knocking down the east half of the mall. With most of the project focusing on the Yonkers / Boston Store / Burlington Coat Factory site off center court. I think Hull Property Group Finished off that mall.
I didn't get to see this newer video! I haven't been to our mall in several years and haven't yet experience the remodeled. Honestly it looks like the inside of a mental health clinic. Now I don't wanna go. Great video I never bought at seventh Avenue, but the store front was always my fave, sad to see it gone. 🙁💔
How recently did the mall reopen? About half of the remaining stores are still temporarily closed. Foot traffic actually looks decent all things considered.
Born n Raised in Racine(1989)....miss the old style of that mall, i joined the Army out of that mall in 2010....i dont even think they recruit there anymore😭😭😭😂😂
There's a guy on RUclips called @Resale Rabbit. He's an "end buyer", cleaning out merch and fixtures when stores close down. I bet he'd know some interesting stuff, and he works out of the Green Bay area.
Oh man. I loved that mall wen I was a kid. Wen I was 14 my mom and dad got me a limo for my birthday so we went to this mall. ! Stupid huh? It was popping back then
I was there about 12 years ago way before any remodel and it was sad then, kiosks and vending machines full of zit medication. Haven't been back and I'm two miles away. I don't even recognize anything and it looks like a medical building now.
Not trying to be 'that guy', but this was uploaded 5 months ago. I didn't see anyone wearing masks. Did you film this last year, or does Racine just not GAF? lol.
10-12 years ago this mall used to be SO lively. I hung out there most weekends as a teenager. Now it's a total ghost town. What went wrong? I heard a few years ago that they wanted to get it more "up and running" again but obviously that failed miserably.
Its depressing walking in the mall now days. 75% of the stores are closed and its just not the same feeling. But i still go for some fresh sneakers and clothes 😂
I used to live in Racine and it was so bad, I was like 14 and I waked to McDonald’s which was literally like 100 feet away from my apartment building and I had to walk through the parking lot of this gas station to get there, I was coming back and I had a happy meal and this scary guy came out of the gas station and he followed me and he was probably going to rob me if I didn’t get to my apartment building right away, I also had this other guy try to steal my iPod cause I wouldn’t let him use it to call his mom even after I explained to him that it can’t make phone calls and then he punched me in the arm and I was about to cry and I was like 12 then, luckily I got the hell out of racine
I spent some time hanging around that mall back in de 00's with friends, have some awesome memories of Regency Mall, too bad things have changed, too bad american society is killing their own economy favouring big corparations over local businesses, this is what happens to local economies.
@@UrbexAPeakInside There used to be a video game arcade in this mall, called Paul's Video Arcade. It closed some years back, earlier sometime in the early or mid 2010s. Sadly, I'm not sure if that owner ever opened another video game arcade anywhere else. I have no idea if they could try to lure Round One, to open a location here? I kinda doubt Dave and Busters would open here, since the population in Racine is kinda small. And D&B seems to focus on more populated, suburban areas.
What's so sad? The mall was no good for the downtown core anyway. If there's no market for it then the owner can re-develop it into something else. Demand will dictate how much retail space is needed.
None of what this guy said matters. The mall really died the day Aladin's Castle shut down. That's what brought the kids and in turn more adults. The internet later finished it off. It's still silly packed for Black Friday & Christmas time though.
This is still so sad . I will always remember the mall the way it once was. My kids enjoyed the mall alot. Thank u for sharing
Glad you liked it. Just wanted to document the changes throughout. Wish it would stay the same as it once was.
@@UrbexAPeakInside I agree. I would love to visit my hometown of Racine, wi very soon again. Gray times and memories there

Wow I remember going to the regency mall back in the 80s right after leaving Racine park high school it used to be so much fun back then 🥺
Thank you for memories of this great mall with alot of what I miss. 😢
I think you nailed it by comparing the mall remodel to an airport concourse.
Dead malls are in my opinion one of the coolest and you captured one of the best. Keep up the great work
Thanks. I have a few more.
I was there the day it opened. It was a big deal then. I remember hanging out at Aladin's Caslte Arcade and checking out the latest cassette tapes at Camelot Music.
It all went downhill after they got rid of the brown tile floor, fountain, and weird bronze sculptures, lol.
I totally agree. I miss the fountain.

I can still smell Cinnebon, Olga's Kitchen and caramel corn when you are walking around there

Wow! I lived in Keno and hung out at this mall all the time. So sad to see what it looks like now. A totally different building and atmosphere.
I did the same as you did. 😢 Sad to see it just go like that. 😞
Hilarious how uptight security is. What exactly are they securing?

There are a few videos of Lakehurst Mall on RUclips (abandoned). So many memories ❤️. It once was a beautiful mall.
8:43 I remember that place, wasn’t that the furniture store with the weird dark yellow lighting
The carpet and stuff makes it look like a giant senior citizen's home.
In the early 90s the mall was really dark with brown tones and water fountains.
Don't you love it when they drywall over empty stores. Looks like there are quite a few walking around even though there is very little open?
There were people. A lot were walking around but some were going to very specific stores.

Went there shortly before Burlington closed. Such a sad mall
Very :(
The Macon Mall in Georgia is owned by the same company and it looks pretty much the same as this one. You’re correct about it resembling a concourse.
Will have to check that one out also.
Woodman's grocery store bought good chunk of the property. They are knocking the part of the mall for a new store location.
