Excellent video, great to see the whole of the layout and all that wiring.Really nice scenic section you built with motorway looks superb. All the best Kev.
What I really love about your layout is how the trains sound as they go round. That low grumbling noise. I think it makes the layout even more realistic, just by it's sound
Awsome job! the road with all the cars under the railroad bridge looks fantastic!.I agree the sound of the trains running is very relaxing. They sound like ocean waves.
great to see your update ,wow that is some track work to clean, like the motorway area not seen that done before, like the track system inc 3way points, like the realistic curves.you have a good attic size & made good use of the system design....jim
Great layout and a really good series on how to do stuff as well- I'm getting back into all this after a delay of about 30 years and the stuff you're putting up is really helpful as well as giving me some good ideas. Don't forget to put a million cones on your motorway section though ;-)
When you use words like 'nice' and 'good' you're really selling yourself short. Some of the work on there looks amazing, really loving the motorway bridge as well!
It seems some incident has brought the motorway traffic to a halt - I bet the people in those cars are looking up at that bridge and thinking "Damn! I should have taken the train!" Great work there, your videos on ballasting have been particularly informative.
Those Mk2 coaches were originally made by Airfix in the seventies, then Dapol made them including some intercity variants. I think all this old airfix stuff has stood the test of time very well
I will be doing another weathering video on coaches and wagons soon. Class 35s were taken out of service in the 1970s, so they wouldn't really fit the layout era.
After moving houses my mate and I are going to create another layout, in a dedicated room of the house, we were curios how you managed to achieve the spiral, keeping the wood level etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hi again, a point of interest for me, follow on from my post 10 minutes ago... but is the colour of the brown sides of the Hornby Mk2d's the same shade of brown as the Hornby Mk3 HST sides? My old Mk4 and Class 91 Hornby swallow livery is spot on, but wondering if the HST colour scheme is better than the Mk2d's?
HI nice layout just watched the new upload when u show the section where the fiddle yard is maybe extra bracing to stop mdf above from warping and is there room to extend the layout where the helix is great layout
no i think a motorway looks better than what a river would look.i take it you have enough clearance under the motorway for the fiddle yard underneath, must be a tight fit for the locos passing under.
Great vids, the 'How To's' are going to be very handy. One question about the trackwork... Is it all fine scale code 75 or a mix of 75 pointwork and 80 track?
Key words with model railways. Its never REALLY finnished. I mean theres always something you can do, or something you can improve. I mean even if he decides he doesn't want to alter the route too much anymore theres always the option to slowly modernise the route. Could be interesting to see too I guess. Although I can only imagine how much it would cost.
Excellent layout, cant wait to see your finished extension...Quick question, I know you use Kadee connectors on your trains what size do you use?? number 18's, 19's or 20's??
I hope you're not going to get bored with not enough to do, when it's all finished, and destroy it all, to make a new layout? But worry not, we'll all stick with you, as it's such excellence. :)
great layout. did you use peco 3 way points? I think i would go to Marcway. Cost more but likely to be more reliable and smooth running. I am thinking of adding a small Finescale 00 section to my layout. Any experience with connecting code 75 bullhead with Peco code100?
Looking awesome as always! Have you thought about doing a thread on new railway modellers? Cos i am sure alot of the guys on there would be happy to see it on there! :-D
i know you got the 2 old steam locos from your old layout but do you think you'll ever get another new one that works properly and then get a few older coaches like pullman or something then the deltic and the steam loco could do a tour now and again if you no what i mean ?
It was not possible for me to go around the attic due to the water tank, ladder and attic hatch. I would have done a loop if possible, its much easier.
Hello, I am planning on doing a layout based in the late 50s/early 60s with a good mix of steam and diesel locomotives. The layout is tiny with a baseboard size of 2000mm x 1200mm! Luckily I've got a reasonable layout to fit. What locomotives would you recommend to fill the roles of: express passenger (steam), freight (diesel), branch line passenger (steam) and a diesel shunter? Thanks for your help :)
Have you made a layout plan? I have not started building yet but I have a similar amount of space to you and I would like track work similar to what you have. My main difference is that my stock is mostly BR steam era so I would need to run them on level track.
Regarding your Hornby mk2 coaches, you could also fit them with the Shawplan Laserglaze, although they are about £8 a set. Also, how did you convert them and what number Kadee did you use? Thanks, sorry for the long comment.
any chance please since you said in you video about weathering the coaching stock you got from hornby of a video doing that and my second querstions are iv got a hornby class 35 and an airfix class 31 so did BR get rid of the 35's so fas cos of the hydraulic problems and thats why you havnt got any and the airfix 35 looks prity decent in the detailing department
hi can you produce a video on making the trees if you havent already? to have multiple trains running at once in different directions, do you have different circuits or is it all one circuit? im hopeless at electrics - can you make a video on this as well?
Nice to see some MK2d's running, but you're right, the hornby ones are not the greatest. Its the colour of the BR brown on the side of the coaches...its too yellow and is miles away from being correct. I recently got 3 of these coaches from Hornby but sent them back as they looked too custrady yellow. Your ones will look better when you weather them. I wnet and got some MK1 Bachmann intercity coaches the same as your ones...they look great and go beautifully will my intercity class 47!
Could you please tell me where you generally buy your railway supplies from? I'm looking to buy peco track and woodland scenics stuff so is there any particular shop you would recommend? Thanks.
Excellent video, great to see the whole of the layout and all that wiring.Really nice scenic section you built with motorway looks superb. All the best Kev.

Awsome job! the road with all the cars under the railroad bridge looks fantastic!.I agree the sound of the trains running is very relaxing. They sound like ocean waves.
The new section looks awesome! I love the bridge with the traffic underneath. Keep up the great work!
Fantastic layout and excellent tips, has really inspired me to get going on my first layout now the boards are laid! Thanks
Looking good sir!!! Its all coming together nicely.
I do like what you have done with the motor way so far.
you are doing a really fantastic job on this layout, it looks superb and the trains run really smoothly, well done
great to see your update ,wow that is some track work to clean, like the motorway area not seen that done before, like the track system inc 3way points, like the realistic curves.you have a good attic size & made good use of the system design....jim
That's looking superb - I could watch those trains going round all day, it's very relaxing! Keep up the great work :)
Great work as always. Love the shots of the trains going over the bridge. Keep up the good work!
Thanks mate, I wasn't sure if a river would have looked better, but everybody does that!
Amazing layout. You have given me many ideas and even taken the jump to weather some of my stock. Keep up the good work
Thanks, I can't decide whether to have roadworks or a tailback yet.
Great layout. I am building my first one, nothing like this one though.
Great tips and inspiration, many thanks,
Great layout and a really good series on how to do stuff as well- I'm getting back into all this after a delay of about 30 years and the stuff you're putting up is really helpful as well as giving me some good ideas. Don't forget to put a million cones on your motorway section though ;-)

Great work there, your videos on ballasting have been particularly informative.
That signal box at St. Albans still has the lever frame and yes you are right it doesn't control anything occasionally they have open days
It's hornby scaledale, one of their earlier models from 2006 I think. They don't make it anymore.
some nice shots of the layout, you've gave me good ideas with the helix's for my next layout
Those Mk2 coaches were originally made by Airfix in the seventies, then Dapol made them including some intercity variants. I think all this old airfix stuff has stood the test of time very well
Agreed, a superb shot from the motorway bed of the passing trains above.
Kindest regards,
STEVIE B.
(Stroley International)
I have one 3 way point and it's very good. I've not had any experience connecting code 75 to 100 though. My entire layout is code 100.
Layout is coming on great, thnks for sharing and I hope you will keep us posted regards Trev
The HST colours are correct as far as i'm aware, certainly much better than the mk2s.
Hehe no need! You have done a brilliant job! looks very nice!
Some very nice progress there, the motorway section looks good.
Not sure, I think you can get pre-made ones, but they will be more expensive.
I don't have a plan for it, but feel free to use any ideas on my layout for yours.
I will be doing another weathering video on coaches and wagons soon. Class 35s were taken out of service in the 1970s, so they wouldn't really fit the layout era.
They were a little bit difficult to change over as the Hornby mk2s have no NEM pockets. I'll add a coupling video to the to do list.
After moving houses my mate and I are going to create another layout, in a dedicated room of the house, we were curios how you managed to achieve the spiral, keeping the wood level etc. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Check out episode 8 of my howto series. That should help you out.
Cheers
The kadees came from sharp models, they are number 18s I think. A coupling video is planned at some point.
Really good layout, easily one of the best on here.
I think so, It's a large area so some big buildings are needed.
Yes, something like that, maybe very small trees that haven't been planted for very long.
HI nice layout just watched the new upload when u show the section where the fiddle yard is maybe extra bracing to stop mdf above from warping
and is there room to extend the layout where the helix is
great layout
I have one in the station. Tricky to wire but once done its very good.
no i think a motorway looks better than what a river would look.i take it you have enough clearance under the motorway for the fiddle yard underneath, must be a tight fit for the locos passing under.
If I extend the other side it will fall out of the loft hatch. Would be nice to get that side longer though.
I can just see the trains in the gap when parking them up, when it's busy it can be quite difficult.
Great vids, the 'How To's' are going to be very handy.
One question about the trackwork...
Is it all fine scale code 75 or a mix of 75 pointwork and 80 track?
I did to start with, but the actual layout ended up being very different from my original plans.
It's bachmann scenecraft security fencing. I got it form hattons.
Fantastic Layout.
Are considering extending the other side now you have nearly completed the new extension ???
Steve
I might get the windows sorted, the kadee I use is a 19, 18s would probably work to.
Great layout and thanks for the tour!
I was aware of the colour issues, hopefully the grey of the weathering will bring them back.
Thanks, I use 12mm MDF, Its 2ft wide.
As long as the model has a nem pocket they are very easy to fit.
The camera is too big, but I want to get a very small low quality one to try that out.
For a multi-level car park plasticard or wood could work. For a normal flat car park I use polyfilla.
Key words with model railways. Its never REALLY finnished. I mean theres always something you can do, or something you can improve. I mean even if he decides he doesn't want to alter the route too much anymore theres always the option to slowly modernise the route. Could be interesting to see too I guess. Yes, you would need to do that.
Excellent layout, cant wait to see your finished extension...Quick question, I know you use Kadee connectors on your trains what size do you use?? number 18's, 19's or 20's??
I wish I had the space to build some thing like what you have done wow
I hope you're not going to get bored with not enough to do, when it's all finished, and destroy it all, to make a new layout? But worry not, we'll all stick with you, as it's such excellence. :)
I'm not sure, there are many kits available and I've thrown the boxes and bags away.
I have some 1960s mk1 coaches for the deltic, I'll make another vid some time.
great layout. did you use peco 3 way points? I think i would go to Marcway. Cost more but likely to be more reliable and smooth running. I am thinking of adding a small Finescale 00 section to my layout. Any experience with connecting code 75 bullhead with Peco code100?
great layout, wish i had the room for something like this!
What train? The six coach passenger trains do fit in the station?
the beest parts of the layout are the tmd and the depot .......excelent layout man
I'm thinking of creating a scene like that when the motorway is finished.
Good layout, it is coming along nicely.
Where did you get the 'preserved' signal box? It looks quite nice.
nice one mate! what are your opinions on the peco 3 way points? thinking of getting a pair for my new fiddle yard on new layout
Cheers Rob
Looking awesome as always! Have you thought about doing a thread on new railway modellers? Cos i am sure alot of the guys on there would be happy to see it on there! :-D

Thanks, my 3 way point is electrofrog.
It was not possible for me to go around the attic due to the water tank, ladder and attic hatch. I would have done a loop if possible, its much easier.
The top section is about 30 feet from end to end.
They should do, I think they're about £22 each.
Very nice and the work continues
can you show us the weathered Leyland Olympian? I'm quite interested at that lol
Your layout is looking great!

thanks for the quick response bud, are they easy to fit? straight unplug of hornby one then push in the Kadee or are they more fiddly than that?
Have you made a layout plan? I have not started building yet but I have a similar amount of space to you and I would like track work similar to what you have. My main difference is that my stock is mostly BR steam era so I would need to run them on level track.
No more room is left, this is as big as its going to get.
Regarding your Hornby mk2 coaches, you could also fit them with the Shawplan Laserglaze, although they are about £8 a set. Also, how did you convert them and what number Kadee did you use?
Thanks, sorry for the long comment.
Have you any plans to get back scenes or are you going to keep the blue background?
any chance please since you said in you video about weathering the coaching stock you got from hornby of a video doing that and my second querstions are iv got a hornby class 35 and an airfix class 31 so did BR get rid of the 35's so fas cos of the hydraulic problems and thats why you havnt got any and the airfix 35 looks prity decent in the detailing department
hi can you produce a video on making the trees if you havent already?
to have multiple trains running at once in different directions, do you have different circuits or is it all one circuit? im hopeless at electrics - can you make a video on this as well?
For now it's blue but I might add extra bits later.
as ever well done layout looks great
Is your three way point insulfrog or electrofrog? Another great video by the way
Nice to see some MK2d's running, but you're right, the hornby ones are not the greatest. Its the colour of the BR brown on the side of the coaches...its too yellow and is miles away from being correct. The gap is about 7 inches I think.
Great video well done. How big is your layout?
Awesome layout.
Am making n gauge layout love urbphoto under board storage how u make or were u get lower level spiral
Each board is 2ft wide and 6ft long
Squeek Squeek! Lovely Job!
From the old layout, I have about 3 or 4.
Wow that is one HUGE layout wow mate. Cheers :)
ok great :) so do you think you'll ever get a steam loco too, to pull it from time to time?
what size it your layout ? in feet ? i getting a 12ft x 8ft shed and was just woundering if i could get mine to look as good as yours in that space.
hello btw love your layout :)
what size boards are you using ?
Could you please tell me where you generally buy your railway supplies from? I'm looking to buy peco track and woodland scenics stuff so is there any particular shop you would recommend? Thanks.
