    Seems to me there's not a point at which chemicals become consciousness, rather the universe is consciousness. A field in which every point has a unique perspective and a correlating unique 'experience' associated with it. The universe feels itself as an atom being drawn towards other atoms, as a chemical bonding to another chemical, as a cell dividing itself, as a bee sensing UV lights as a human 'experiencing' a thought.

    I feel that consciousness and individuality is a bi-product of complexity, modified or manipulated by circumstances of the surroundings. Survival being one of these, my idea of lions and prides here. A male lion kills the cubs not of him, knowing the difference between I and other, in an effort for survival. similar pack animals that do not engage in this and simply integrate or extricate themselves as a whole without the constraints of "I", but still aware of placement and role
    Language as an assumption of vocal or written necessity and therefore intelligence I think has been our most difficult hurdle as human beings in discovering how animals truly are conscious and thoughtful beings, regardless of their knowledge of "I"

    There’s something about being a conscious entity that doesn’t seem amenable to science. Scientific theories are maps with temporal dimensions. Consciousness in this instance is the terrain. Maps are not ontologically equivalent to the terrain they represent. What it’s like to be a conscious entity will never somehow magically be explained by a map of the brain or whatever.

    One conclusion that I reached was that *We are Nature's consciousness*.
    By nature, Nature is unconscious, because consciousness is the result of the animating source (God, spirit, soul, etc.) interfacing with the material neural network (brain, spine, nervous system, etc.), in the same way that light is the result of electricity (animating source) interfacing with the bulb's filament (material element). *Consciousness is the light produced by the application of spirit to body*.
    And so, *Through our eyes Nature takes her first look at herself*.
    Through our consciousness of Nature, Nature becomes conscious of herself. And she likes what she sees. Much like a female in front of a mirror, our compulsion to explore and discover every aspect of the universe - from the smallest particles to the largest celestial bodies - is her desire to see more of herself.

    Its going to be very hard to make any headroom in understanding consciousness. We are limited by how we perceive and understand - As humans, we have to visualize something to truly understand it. Our equations and the things they explain or predict can be checked in the real world for the most part, we can observe microscopic cells, but we cannot observe consciousness outside of our own, or visualize it. Perhaps we are tethered to something in another dimension and that's what our thoughts are. Just wild speculation but if that was the case how do we learn about something like that? Visualize it? Its end game science maybe 1000 years from now...

    • @dernaserich
      @dernaserich 3 года назад +1

      I have aphantasia and cannot visualize - I understand many things though, even if there are way more things that I don't understand. I agree with your statement that we are limited, it's not a limit due to visualization though.

      @thepunisherxxx6804 3 года назад

      @@dernaserich I mean in a general sense - You have eyes and can see a wheel is round, how it works with a car, etc. We are limited greatly by our biology (which we know as we cant see radio waves for example). We could also be limited to 3d space, other dimensions could be out of reach.

    Well one way to figure out consciousness is to keep looking. We may not now exactly how or if consciousness exists in, or functions in accordance with, the physical. But if we keep looking and learning maybe we find it. We got closer. I mean, we know that the brain does impact consciousness. If the brain is damaged it can severely impact or change consciousness. So there is a clue right there. Understanding how the brain functions is our best clue right now.

    • @SoyBooru
      @SoyBooru 3 года назад

      Not exactly true. The world is dependent on our consciousness, it is impossible for us to exist outside of our conscious frame.
      How do you know consciousness exists in the brain? You study it with your consciousness. This is using X to deduce X. I don’t believe it’s possible for us to understand the origin of consciousness while existing in the first person conscious experience.

    • @lystic9392
      @lystic9392 3 года назад +1

      @@SoyBooru Well, that sounds like the problem of solipsism. Any moment, we cannot know more than we know. Or less than we know. We know exactly what we know. And all that we know exists, is just that.
      Do you know that the same is true for me? No. Maybe you assume it to be the case, and it's real to you. But is that just because you assume this to be the case?
      It's a kind of circular explanation that can be true, despite being a circular explanation. Or, it sort of equates the mind or the consciousness to the world. But since we can't know it's true, we best move on and keep it in the back of our mind as a possibility.

    • @SoyBooru
      @SoyBooru 3 года назад +1

      @@lystic9392 Fair response. I only take issue with speaking in absolutes about these questions of reality. People start with the assumption that there is a physical explanation for a seemingly non-physical phenomena, but that’s poor scientific reasoning if you start with a conclusion or unjustified assumptions. I’m not saying you are doing this, I think your comment was fine.
      I agree that we have to accept the faith-based assumptions of science (uniformity principle) and keep moving forward with it. But a lot of people assume that all truth is scientific, which in itself is not a scientifically verifiable claim.

    An individual is not aware, hence awareness in universal. Proof: An ordinary mirror works by sending electrical currents over its surface to construct an exact but 2D rendering of its environment. If a person stands in front of a mirror and talks about why their individual awareness is a fact, within the mirror electrical currents move their mouth so that the mouth in the mirror talks. So, electrical currents can move in a way that explains at length the mechanism of subjective experiences and awareness in words, without the electrical currents being aware.

    • @revolutionairre
      @revolutionairre 3 года назад

      If consciousness is simply the unique, perceptual experience of each individual, then yes, what you're saying makes sense, and one's own consciousness should be self-evident. However, being that she's a physicist, I think she is trying to understand consciousness as something alienable from subjectivity. For all she knows-for all any of us know-the observation of the concept of consciousness could ultimately be a misapprehesion stemming from one of the many blindspots humans have in this realm of science.
      What's worse is we can't, in any empirical sense, validate our individual understanding of consciousness by comparing it with anyone else's. Absolute certainty aside, we can't even be relatively sure that when someone says they experience consciousness in the same way that you do, they aren't just a reflection of your misapprehended concept of consciousness. It can easily be written off as confirmation bias.

Trying to explain things through the physical world can never explain things that transcend physical reality. Why even waste the time trying to find answers to something that you already have answers for. You can put that time towards understanding what the implications of consciousness means in a world that is locked to the physical realm.
