I’m also a proud Calgarian, and I’m ecstatic that stampede wasn’t held this year. The tourists are annoying, the drunks are a nightmare, transits packed.
@@vyentro29 Stampede's been a lot less fun for me after working the mini donuts for a year, lol. I swear the smell of grease still gives me nightmares.

And I'm sitting here in my fucking shitty expensive apartment in the centre of London, UK, that looks like it was built in the 18th century, watching lovely people enjoy mountains, great food and horse riding in Canada.... I would do anything to move to a place like that and work my butt off in exchange to wake up in the morning and see a view like those mountains or have the chance to ride a horse.
It's quite hard, you basically have to either marry someone with citizenship or get a business to bring you in(but they basically have to prove to the government that you are better for the job than any Canadians)
Don't think I've laughed and enjoyed a youtube cooking journey so much in my life. Awesome personality and nice to see little to no censoring! Good work guys and GDAY from Australia!!
Fantastic first episode. Calgary looks absolutely beautiful. I like how the episode ends with food Matty cooks, but I wish it showed more on how he went about cooking it. Great start to what looks to be a great series
Nah we have plenty of those here too :) We just call them rig-pigs and they're racist towards Native Americans, not African-Americans and Hispanic people.
As a chef is Calgary, I really enjoyed the episode, but Char-Cut and Market really don't show the whole scene. Market (a business that is for sale as of this post) boast local ingredients and such, but the first dish is Tuna (native to the rivers and lakes of Alberta). Market more than Char Cut are known for keeping to themselves and are rarely scene at with the other chefs. I feel that Cleaver, Model Milk, and even Brasserie Kensington would have been better. Matty is a fantastic host and can't wait for more episodes.
As a claimed "Calgary chef" you should probably be more in the loop as to what is going on before you post a comment. Market is definitely not for sale. That was rumor that started over a year ago by haters. I know the chefs and owners at Market personally and can assure you that they arn't going anywhere, Market is stronger than ever. As for Charcut, they are known as one of Calgary's best restaurants for years now and Connie and John collaborate with tons of chefs. Both restaurants do great things for the scene here in Calgary. You say Cleaver is more "scene" then those two? Cleaver has been open for what, 2 months now? How can they represent Calgary's food scene being an Irish style restaurant and only being open for such a short period of time? Who knows what they will accomplish, but its way to soon to say they represent Calgary. Model Milk and Brasserie Kensignton are awesome, no doubt about that. Calgary has a ton of great restaurants but dont go bashing and making up rumors about restaurants when you clearly have no idea what your talking about.
I love watching this guys he is a great host!!!!!!! I just have fun watching him experience stuff!!! Hes is the reason why I started watching munchies .
Looks just like Texas in the summer and Montana. And they even have the southern accents kinda. Never thought there was a place in Canada where there was shit kickers like where I live. D:
Kelo60 The only person in this video that had that accent was the announcer guy. And it's a fake accent lol. But you're kinda right about the southern US influence. A lot of it was actually imported by Americans over a century ago.
When I was young I worked at the place literally walking distance across the valley from where he was riding horses. I'm super lucky to have a place that beautiful 50 mins drive from my house!
the fried food stuff is found at all of the festivals across canada not only this one. Food changes over time to meet the current hype. They have been cowboys and that southern style living there since the 1800s.
Ben A Lol, fried food is everywhere my friend, it's not just a staple in the southern U.S. anymore. As for the "southern" culture..to answer your question, no. Calgary( a lot of Alberta for that matter) wasn't originally a cowboy province. A lot of that came up a little over a century ago from Montana mostly. There was once a huge migration from Montana to Alberta, so I guess some of the culture stuck. I think it also explains why Alberta has voted consistently conservative for as long as I can remember lol.
It's amazing that this has been on the internet for 5 years and I just found it. Man it would be good if you make a new season revisiting the same places.
Like the horse is gonna get damage from him riding on it.. During WW1 they let horses drag around artillery cannons and equipment. Back in the day they used horses for all heavy duty pulling stuff. You just wanna troll around with Matheson's weight.. kinda lame..
Dimitris Sfounis Yo, Look at the horse. massive Canadian horse. it ain't no throughbred or quarter horses. they're built for heavy loads and endurance. He might be little chubby but not only for a short clip, 1-2hr ride wouldn't be any of problem for the horse. trust me I have worked with horses for many years
I like Keep it Canada wayyyyy better then Fuck That's Delicious. I feel like this is more down to earth and not trying to look like a boss and all that fake shit. I don't like how the host of Fuck that's delicious host the show.... I feel like he is always trying to impress everyone rather than do a Munchies episode. I mean Munchies should be food and culture. Fresh off the boat was such a great success since it was on point and I feel like this show is also going down the same road, where as fuck thats delicious does not talk much about the food and even less about the culture.
I wish Keep it Canada was more popular. Would have loved to see more seasons of it.
Hands down, Matty has to be my favourite Munchies host.
Yeah, we need more seasons :(

he is a great host, he's funny, almost never without something interesting to say, and looks to be genuinely enjoying himself.
great presenter

But aswell... African Americans ;) Basically anyone we see. xD
Nahh! It might look like Texas but has got kinder, nicer people without the mental health issues or easy access to a fuckload of guns.
nah pretty different.

I wish he would have explained how Calgary started to look like Texas. Is there a history to all this?
they were always like that not because they wanted to be Texas 2.0. They just held onto that tradition and lifestyle.

So all cowboy culture is synonymous with fried foods and carnivals?
And also Wisconsin fried cheese; Which I doubt is indigenous to Canada?
the fried food stuff is found at all of the festivals across canada not only this one. Food changes over time to meet the current hype. They have been cowboys and that southern style living there since the 1800s.
