Another banger! Thanks man! I just want to say though, for anybody worrying about the sound of their MIDI guitars, if you're still in the songwriting phase, don't worry about it. In Software Development, there is this concept of "Premature Optimization" which is generally a bad thing because it leads you to overthink and halts your progress. Focus on writing the song first; use articulations but it's ok to be quantized. Once you're happy with the song, then you can iterate over your programmed notes (ala note editing if it were recorded). You'll have to worry about transitions between sections anyways by then, so it is the best time to do it. Once again, thanks for the video, man. Great tips all around. The pitch bend on the down beat on open strings plus the pull-off bend are really great tips. Also gave me the idea to experiment with automating the pick attack (ie. harder on the start of phrases, and mellowing it in between).
Dude, all of this is IT! Thanks for taking the time to type this up, man! I stress this ALOT in my breakdown video. DONT OVER THINK! just have fun and keep it moving!
The strum technique tip is gold. Ableton 12 now offers an easy way of doing this too both in the Chord midi device, and midi clip settings. With midi clip strumming you have a special curve editor which allows you to adjust exactly how much you want the notes to be offset. Really cool stuff.
This is really interesting. I NEVER use midi guitars, always play my actual guitar. Not sure I'll ever come away from the real thing but appreciate the work that goes into this. 🤘🏻
Great tips here! I discovered the note offset "strum" effect a couple weeks ago on clean/ambient guitars. So sweet. I don't go so far as to add the pitch bends to the open notes... I guess my MIDI guitar has an Evertune. 😆 Also, in Alan's Erra MIDI riff pack video, he mentions that there's 3 velocity layers per note (per guitar) in Axure: 0-42, 43-86, and 86-127. Just for what it's worth as you're programming the chords! (He goes over that at around the 8:40 mark) I could've sworn I was hearing more than that, but who am I to argue? haha Keep it up, homie!! 💪
Yooo thanks soo much for checking it out and for the write up! Yeahh the strumming is super great! i also have been experimenting on where i like my velocities for the strumm stuff. im starting to use it more and more, and its been fun!!
Going back over all the previous videos and this one is really useful. I'm fairly new to MIDI Guitar and understand guitar and the basics. This is a real game changer and is going to help massively so I appreciate your efforts, thanks.
Tempted to to get Axure for basically everyone else in my band to use when demoing in tandum with my Neural plugins . Problem is that shit Has to be playable after! And I know Im just tempting fate that the guys will write something totally unplayable and then even for ideas forget how its fretted too. Guitar Pro 5 for life ahaha
@@Emm_R_Guitar hahaha idk man, I think you could easily go into the midi and tweak some thing around. For me, I think it’s soo great for programming rhythms!
@@chrisbedan I always find your videos very well made, and I'm sure you could write some great Thall riffs too. It would be awesome if you gave it a try
hey dude! i did!! its a little tedious but its sooo worth it! i should make a video showing it. but also, on my patreon i have them alll available there. including most of the GGD drum packs as well!
I’ve heard plenty of ample sound demos that sound great. It’s just about finding the program that works best for you, there’s plenty of options that are at a highest current level of available technology

Yeah totally!! its just another menu that i am to lazy to go to, so i just do it by hand. i should probably use it tho, lol

Hey 👋 Could you make a Video about how to write some Thall Riffs by using midi instruments ? I’d love to see that !!!
Oh man, i can try my best, but i dont know if i have any business writing Thall riffs haha
@@chrisbedan I always find your videos very well made, and I'm sure you could write some great Thall riffs too. It would be awesome if you gave it a try
Great video Chris, would you explain more about the pitch bends on ableton how to configure those to make it sound that good. Thanks again.
Hey man! honestly, its all about experimenting with the curve to get it to sound exactly how you want! =D
can you go through your midi effect rack where you named the articulations? did you name each note manually in addition to the articulations?

Hey dude, unfortunately i dont, im on a Windows PC these days, so i dont have access to logic anymore.

Electric guitars from Ample Sound sounds bad actually so it's hard to program them realistic 🤷🏻♂️

why not just recording it with a guitar?
Thats no fun... XD
lol, lately i've been loving writing in midi because it helps me think in terms of notes rather than shapes.
