Great video! I think using triplets & experimenting with the patterns are the game changers here. Sometimes you can even have the guitar & bass go in unison with a part of the fill, to accentuate that part. Another few tips are: humanizing the notes & changing the velocities. The last one can be somewhat challenging tho, especially if you want to hear all hits in the mix ;)
Awesome tip! Seeing it instead of thinking about it always helps with whatever it is you want to do in songwriting. I like to have a word doc for notes with every song I write. Once I'm done with the main drum parts, then I'll do the rest of the instrumental, and finally fills. And I'll leave that task in the notes for later! Once I know how the arrangement truly sets the vibe of the song, that's the moment when I know where I want fills, and how they should sound. Keep up the good work! Also, your song sounds so cool, it's like Jaded and Circle With Me had a kid!
Dude!! this is EXACTLY the wayyy! i leave myself some visual notes with those colors, but your notes idea is great also!! i think ill start doing that with the songs i plan to push all the way to release! really appreciate you checking it out and supporting, my friend!
this is so helpful! im mainly a guitar player and i feel like i have always just done basic drums in my songs and these tips help me kind of visualize this a lot easier!
Yasss man!! its such a simple but powerful concept. and really the only limitation is how far you're willing to experiment! but i would recommend saving the fills you make. then you will have a collection of them!
I’m sure you’ve already said this in one of the videos, but how do you get the sample names in the piano roll? “KICK” “SNARE” etc, or articulation key switches for the guitars.
Hello from France! I truly appreciate this concise video format, as it makes it much easier for me to absorb valuable information from you. Keep it up, you do a great job !
Great video, this helped me getting fills out, what I think helps even more is having the midi events named to your drum parts, makes the flow quicker. Do you know how to do this one studio one 6? Only way I found is switching to drum view naming them there and when you switch back to piano roll they are named but the spacing is big since the paino roll brings back all the midi note values and not your filters ones you can turn on n off in drum view. Is this an abelton thing having the piano roll drum parts so close together?
Hey man! Glad the video Helped Out! Also, yeah this is a feature inside of Ableton live, that will only show the notes that you labeled. I’m not sure if there is a way to fold the notes inside of Studio One. I do remember having them labeled tho. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help, my friend.
Great content Chris! Keep up this Video-format for these nuggets of gold for the Homies that can't always join live or delve though the Vods.
You got it, man!! thats the goal! im streaming a little bit less, so i can get these goin, for the homies!! Appreciate you, brother!
Color coding the fills for later is a good tip for not getting caught up in the minuet details when writing.
Heck yeah man! I do that with just about everything, when I’m doing a context check!
Thanks for checking out the vid, my friend!
