Dear Valerie, Thank you so much for all the help you give with your tutorials. I have always loved drawing, but have only been self taught until now. You are my first art teacher and I have learned so much. It really means a lot. Thank you. Sincerely, one of your many loyal students
I need to work on my patience with drawing. I always get so excited with how the drawing will turn out and try to get done fast. I sometimes end up ruining the drawing completely with the inking process.
thats the problem I'm having, my circles are more ovular which is annoying. i thought i had bad muscle memory or something but you told KING FLAME_YT to keep going?, so its a good thing?
Everything I know about art is what I've learned from you, and I just want to thank you so much. People have complimented my art many a time, and I always tell them the same thing when they ask me who taught me; "Look up Art ala Carte on youtube." I just love your videos so much, and you have helped me a ton. Thank you for everything!
it helps if you first hover your pencil above the paper and make a few circles before you draw it, also when you go down to draw it make sure its very lightly drawn because if you push very hard not only is it going to be hard to erase but will also maybe get "stuck" on the paper
Besides tracing, I usually draw a bunch of small lines at the same angle 'til the starting point connects with the line you draw, but it takes some practice until you understand what angle makes what size circle
What I usually do to draw circles is I use coins - mainly dimes, nickels, and quarters - and trace around them. I would occasionally use this little toothpick container we have, but my primary source is coins. However, I appreciate you opening my eyes to a new method! I'll certainly try it out in the future.
Hi Art Ala Carte - My entire life, well from 5 y.o to adult, and my favorite thing to draw has always been horses. However, I can draw a horse only facing left and draw a horse head, also facing left. You're tutorials are really going help me allow my horse(s) face in varied directions.
The method I always used was to just use short curved strokes while I turned the paper. I still have to turn my paper but now I can do it in a few large strokes.
:D I'm left handed too! I get so frustrated sometimes because no one in my class is left handed except me lol. And everything is made for right handed people! Glad to see I'm not alone in this artistic world. ;)
I guess it is just a matter of creating muscle memory. I think I will practice by visualizing also. I started to watch the stick man video and realized that I couldn't draw a circle. So when you began drawing circles at the joints I came to watch this video. Your tutorials are so helpful. Thank you!
I took art class in high school and I only remember 2 drawings we had do and that is first draw a box like 3D box, top bottom being walkway and ceiling than left and right side is the walls and in middle is a wall and you can draw stables or inside house and the other drawing I remember is 3D drawing of street with buildings on both sides.
thank you so much, at the first time i was drawing a circle it was so bad, but when i saw your video of how drawing circles it getting better and also i won't forget the practice part. thank you again.
I use this already!😁 it's funny how when we are in art class and we are sketching something with quite a few circles in it and I'm and always the first one finished because of the circle method.
The key to drawing a circle is to look at the starting point of the circle, while you draw the rest of the circle. The motion of drawing the circle should be a fluid and subconscious motion. Make sure the end point fluidly meets the starting point. Use, the wrist, elbow or arm to pivot the drawing process.
Personally, I start at the top going counterclockwise and draw small lines at a time all the way around. I’ve gotten to the point now where my circles are near perfect. Give it a try
This is going to sound really dumb as a tip; draw your circles like you would Oʻs. (This worked for me at least) The shift in how you tend to write letters seems different than when you draw shapes. Maybe it is worth a try as a way to improve drawing curved shapes.
This video was very helpful and thank you for it but I have a question, how long did it take you to draw a successful or decent looking circle. I hope to hear from you and keep up the good work
I am a self tought artist, and I learned how to draw my circles myself,I swear,I WAS SO BAD!!Now a lil better, and my friends go FREACKING INSANE ON HOW I DO EM!!!I understnad it.Damn.
There are these flat plastic sheets with many many sizes of circles cut out, to use as stencils. but i'd rather use just ma good old hand XD **proceeds to fill up pages with nothing but circles and doodles on top of them maybe**
I think the best way to draw a circle is familiarise yourself with what a circle looks like. Look at an example circle on a page intently and create a mental image of it. The next step is to imagine yourself slowly outlining the perfect circle that is on the page, with your imagination. Once you have done this, put the page to the side and with a clean page try and superimpose the circle from memory onto the page and very gently and with a fluid motion draw the circle onto the page. As you are drawing remember that a circle is a continuous curve and within your movement, that is what you are trying to maintain. Compare your drawing with the example and keep on trying. In order to draw circles of different sizes it is the position of the pencil held coupled with whether you are using the wrist, elbow or shoulder as a pivot. The main thing is to build a very good mental image of a circle coupled with the gentle fluid fluid circular motion of the 'trace' over the imagined circle on the page.
True story! I have more requests from people asking me how I draw a circle or telling me they can't because they can't draw a circle then any others topic.
Them random bursts of loud music scared my cat x3 I swear kitty jumped like 3 feet xD!! It's cool how you make it sound real easy... Because it is. ... Nah jk circles r my worst enemy .-.
i love your drawings!!! i like to draw too and i just got finished with my MLP drawing and it looks a lot like yours. p.s, i'm 11 and im left handed too ^.^
I try to do the phantom circle but IT NEVER WORKS so instead I just sketch it similarly to the way you 'defined' your circle and that work quite well for me :)
I like how you made it sound sooooooooo hard...
Because It is.
First, you draw this head, then you erase some of the more detailed bits,
and 1 2 3...
A circle...uhhh... thingy.
lol
***** SPONGBOOBBBB I WAS THINKING OF HIM THE ENTIRE TIME, SINCE I SAW THE TITLE! XD
oOAllyCatOo Hahaha xD
Omg, this episode was just shown today 😂
*A pErFeCt CiRcLe?! NO dO iT AgAiN*

Me too
I need to work on my patience with drawing. I always get so excited with how the drawing will turn out and try to get done fast. I sometimes end up ruining the drawing completely with the inking process.
Me too! I always try to hurry and then ruin it
ThePonyRockstar my name is patience..
ThePonyRockstar Yeah. So true and relatable.
Instead when I see how it turns out, I get angry ;-; I have anger issues TwT
The way I do it is first I draw this head, then erase some of the detail features, and then I'm left with a perfect circle.
