I love Michael Ball, he is a terrific singer, but Sunset Boulevard is an American musical, John Barrowman nails it, this version is dead on, his tone, his attitude, PERFECT!
I'm happy to hear that you liked it! I can understand why you prefer John's performance. He is an actor , while Tamas is just a singer with a very nice voice. :)
OMG. I love John singing this song! Also Night and Day in De-Lovely. I like how he interpreted the song - the stresses in some words like "frenzy" and the lighter pace in "well, I'm a writer". He would be an excellent Joe Gillis in the movie as he connects the camera well.
Saw him perform this at Andrew Lloyd Webber's birthday in the park in Hyde Park yesterday and we were right at the front and he was amazing! SO good, I really felt all the emotions. Amazing. x
This is such an emotional and really kl song! sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber and John Barrowman make such a good duo. I mean as, he writes the songs and John sings them.
THere is a recording of this song, the album is called "Anderw Lloyd Webber: The Greatest Songs", it inculdes song from many of ALW' musicals, and this is one of them, and its a 2-disc.
I love this song. I watched the movie in a film class last year, after having downloaded this song to itunes, so I was extremely excited to watch the movie. John Barrowman is ridiculously talented and a song like this (at least in the opinion of someone who can't sing) just proves it.
I saw the dutch version yesterdag, as well (I'm dutch myself, so I did understand the lyrics ;)) As usual, the english lyrics are slightly better, but I'm really fond of the dutch translation. I especially loved this song. Don't know why, it's just really strong.
me to. he is just the best actor i can think of. I would LOVE to meet him. and i also love the fact he isnt afriad to show that hes gay and has a husband (civel partner. what ever you wanna call it)
I was also thinking of buying a ticket, but I am Italian, for me it would be kind of a problem. I don't know if there are still ticktes now...Anyway, if you go, please write something about the experience. Thanks. Silvia
I just can't like anyone's version as much as Hugh Jackman's. It's like I understand and am convinced by Hugh's perfomance so well that when John Barrowman and Michael Ball sing it, it just sounds like any other song. I think I'd like this more if I hadn't heard Hugh's version though!!! :)
Yeah this version is okay. I've listened to Michael Ball's version first. Michael Ball has a tension in his voice that makes me think its fits the period this is supposed to be in (the 40's or 50's). There's a gritty weariness to his voice that John Barrowman doesn't have. But I love John Barrowman and this is a great version.
you sound like my kind of person. LOL! let me come to cardiff. and the chances of you findinng him arnt that slim. he is still filming Torchwood because series 2 dosnt come out till january (i silightly cry) and Doctor who crimbo sepicil started filming last week. .. you know JB has a house up ther... all we have to do is fine it and continue with the bananah plan. LOL
SUPER-MEGA-UBER-FAN!!!!! LOVING jack and lanto, really sweet together. ...i hate gwen... and owen... tosh i am ok with. CANNOT wait till series 2, out in jan... thats to far away whats your fave episode????
@earlady66 Elaine Paige is a fantastic performer, but as Norma Desmond? Glenn Close is far more fitting for that role than any of the previous leads I've encountered... Elaine Paige for me is Grizabella and Evita (in her earlier performances, of course).
John has an amazing voice but he's so presentational. He gestures absolutely everything he's singing about and the only way he has to emphasize a word is by growling it at you. Don't get me wrong he's a great performer, and a fantastic singer, I just think his performance isn't as honest because of all the hand motions he's doing
Ik vind juist dat de gebaren goed zijn. Ik vind het verschrikkelijk als hij erbij staat ls een zoutzak. Dit vind ik één van de beste versie. Hij mag van mij wel een paar aspecten van Huhg Jackmann overnemen.
more wordy yes but the speed of the songs are very different. think half of what is said in here you need to follow carefully. Cole porter did but a lot of words in his songs but Webber with this song wow...and dont get me started on the wordiness of Sondhiem!
I love John Barrowman, I truly do. When I saw he sang this I had to give it a listen, but honestly ? I don't feel he felt the part. He felt like he was singing more than he was acting which is fine, he had a pretty voice, but he doesn't deliver the lines, he doesn't seem to feel the hunger or the shame or the anger at said shame which should be coursing through this character. Which is weird, usually he's a great actor
travel mis more exspensive than food... and bananahs are food. LOL... but what about scott...what if he's there... we need an attractive gay man to Distact him
Too nasal and feminine. I don't understand the fuss about this guy. He doesn't have anything on Michael Ball. Where are the actors like Vic Damone when you need them?
I love Michael Ball, he is a terrific singer, but Sunset Boulevard is an American musical, John Barrowman nails it, this version is dead on, his tone, his attitude, PERFECT!
Ironically, he's not an American singer.
John providing his special talent - such a fantastic voice, great performer, great actor
Fantastic! John You Are the BEST!!!!
His singing is just amazing here! A very very special talent
How much did you love that whole concert? Especially John singing and presenting! Wow I was awestruck the whole night.
I love that song, and what a voice!
Love John Barrowman and his voice!
I never knew he could sing THIS well!!
I'm happy to hear that you liked it! I can understand why you prefer John's performance. He is an actor , while Tamas is just a singer with a very nice voice. :)
I saw him in this in '94 in West End! Sooo good!!
I love this song. One of my favorites from this musical. I like his gesturing too.
I love his Music and I LOVE Him 🥰
in a werid mood JB always cheers me up xxx
OMG. I love John singing this song! Also Night and Day in De-Lovely. I like how he interpreted the song - the stresses in some words like "frenzy" and the lighter pace in "well, I'm a writer". He would be an excellent Joe Gillis in the movie as he connects the camera well.
Now i think there should be a musical episode of torchwood, it would be amazing with his voice!
Saw him perform this at Andrew Lloyd Webber's birthday in the park in Hyde Park yesterday and we were right at the front and he was amazing! SO good, I really felt all the emotions. Amazing. x

i melted multiple times
In a word... Excellent!!!!
This is such an emotional and really kl song! sir Andrew Lloyd-Webber and John Barrowman make such a good duo. I mean as, he writes the songs and John sings them.

Wow now I have to listen to all of Sunset Boulevard. This is the first song I've heard from it.

I loved this song before I heard John sing it.

THere is a recording of this song, the album is called "Anderw Lloyd Webber: The Greatest Songs", it inculdes song from many of ALW' musicals, and this is one of them, and its a 2-disc.
wicked means great!
i agree with everything you just siad
I love this song. I watched the movie in a film class last year, after having downloaded this song to itunes, so I was extremely excited to watch the movie. John Barrowman is ridiculously talented and a song like this (at least in the opinion of someone who can't sing) just proves it.

I saw the dutch version yesterdag, as well (I'm dutch myself, so I did understand the lyrics ;))
As usual, the english lyrics are slightly better, but I'm really fond of the dutch translation.
I especially loved this song. Don't know why, it's just really strong.

I don't understad the fuss, either. Completely agree with you.
doing good,
we havn't talked in ages.
me to. he is just the best actor i can think of. I would LOVE to meet him. and i also love the fact he isnt afriad to show that hes gay and has a husband (civel partner. what ever you wanna call it)
seriously you worked with john
I was also thinking of buying a ticket, but I am Italian, for me it would be kind of a problem. I don't know if there are still ticktes now...Anyway, if you go, please write something about the experience. Thanks. Silvia
wow he is amazing! the one problem i have is the way he slides up to the note on "boulevard" but other than that he's fantastic
Hahaha AGREED. I guess he's supposed to look like he's ready to get down to business.
AAAH keep your hands in your pockets!!
I love this song though.
The person who cut his hair needs to apologize. A lot.
Great job...one of the best male singers on Broadway today....don't agree on his tie being undone for the scene.....
JOHN IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOT
"BUBP" Back Up Bananah Plan.
I like It. LOL =)
So, i take it you are a torchwood fan???
I just can't like anyone's version as much as Hugh Jackman's. It's like I understand and am convinced by Hugh's perfomance so well that when John Barrowman and Michael Ball sing it, it just sounds like any other song. I think I'd like this more if I hadn't heard Hugh's version though!!! :)
@cassluvsmusic Be sure when you listen to Sunset Boulevard, be sure Norma Desmond is Elaine Paige. PERFECTION!! !
If you'd like to see a better version of this song, see Pal Tamas- Sunset boulevard!
It's hungarian but i think it's great though!
Now who would have thought Captain Jack had a background in musical theatre???
@KaraokeKid22 this is very true but he supervises them quite well...why else would he fire and rehire so many when working on a show...
He says this is the wordiest song he's ever done, it must have been before he did Anything Goes in that case cos You're the Top is far more wordy!
you better share
ohhhh i can not wait to see his face when two absolutlt insane fans come rushing through his door... with bananahs...
OHHHH! what a shame. LOL, he sound like a really nice gye and it is nice to know that it is not just a front.
you lucky person, i would kill to just meet him, whats he like in person??? is that hole nice gye thing just a front, god i hope not
you sound like my kind of person. LOL! let me come to cardiff. and the chances of you findinng him arnt that slim. he is still filming Torchwood because series 2 dosnt come out till january (i silightly cry) and Doctor who crimbo sepicil started filming last week. .. you know JB has a house up ther... all we have to do is fine it and continue with the bananah plan. LOL
JOHN BARROWMAN!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!! However, I don't think I can see him as anything other than Captain Jack Harkness.
SUPER-MEGA-UBER-FAN!!!!!
LOVING jack and lanto, really sweet together.
...i hate gwen... and owen... tosh i am ok with.
CANNOT wait till series 2, out in jan...

I vote for a musical episode of Torchwood a la Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
@crazyphan18 but Lloyd Webber doesnt write his own lyrics....
Ik vind juist dat de gebaren goed zijn. Ik vind het verschrikkelijk als hij erbij staat ls een zoutzak. Dit vind ik één van de beste versie. Hij mag van mij wel een paar aspecten van Huhg Jackmann overnemen.
who is sam???
40 I think...
more wordy yes but the speed of the songs are very different. think half of what is said in here you need to follow carefully. Cole porter did but a lot of words in his songs but Webber with this song wow...and dont get me started on the wordiness of Sondhiem!

Too nasal and feminine. I don't understand the fuss about this guy. He doesn't have anything on Michael Ball.
Where are the actors like Vic Damone when you need them?
shove it..you must be a breeder or a fish (woman)!
Que horror que tipo tan petulante, se ve sobrado en el escenario. Canta super bien pero la actitud equivoca no me gusta para nada.
