This performance really gives the material a whole added layer of depth. To sing “Everyone’s forgotten when they started” in a massive auditorium filled with people who have fought like hell to get to the biggest night in UK Theatre really is quite something! All at once, there’s something rather glorious about that feeling of ‘making it’ but at the same time there’s a rather haunting reminder of the sacrifices it takes to survive in this industry. No wonder Jamie Lloyd won Best Director (at last!)!
I thought this performance was incredible enough already, and then I learned that this is a variation of the way this production staged this song and did it every night?? Never getting over this, and I can't believe I haven't heard of Tom Francis before!
Yes, he started off in the changing rooms, then outside on the street, through the theatre foyer and then onto the stage. There were a LOT of stairs to contend with along with changes in weather, random bystanders etc.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber standee was also in the west end version, I presume that and saying hi to Nicole were both at the exact moments they happened in the show!
@@alicew349 Well, I remember the Lloyd Webber standee, but when I saw it, the alternate playing Norma was sitting in front of the screen showing the outside camera feed. As for him saying hi to Nicole, in the West End production he does this with one of the outside posters.
The way this show is staged here is one of the most creative and fantastic ways I've ever seen a show like this have done And I hope it gets a big positive outcome on Broadway
Saw this 4 times in the west end including closing night. Really is the best thing I've ever seen. Still blows my mind how modern and relevant they made this musical. It was heartbreakingly wonderful.
traveled from the Netherlands three times , to see Sunset Boulevard , it was a work of art that you had to keep looking at and could not say goodbye to. This performance is once again breathtaking to see! Tom Francis after Broadway, Holywood awaits you!
This is me in a different universe. I also travelled from Edinburgh three times to see the show three times! The closing night performance was everything 🥹
Is it wrong how many times I've watched this scene? Tom Francis is a Superstar in the making Insane. Epic.. Stunning. Phenomenal. I still have chills and goosebumps
I’m not usually into musicals or theatre in general, but I happened to watching the Olivier’s livestream and this blew me away. I’ve showed it multiple relatives of mine. Hoping to see it on Broadway this fall.
Tom is a superstar. This is incredible, im so pleased they made thia work last night! Personally, theres a 90% chance id stack it walking down the stairs.
This performance is absolutely amazing!!! I loved this particular sequence when I saw Sunset Boulevard but replicating it for Olivier Awards 2024 just shows how amazing the team behind this show is! 😍
Ok that gave e goosebumps. In something that could have just been a gimmick this was just simply breathtaking and we learnt so much about Joe in 3 minutes. There is no denying why this show stacked the awards last night. Truly deserved.
I flew from Australia to see this show in November. Absolutely mind blowing. I agree Tom is a star but the entire cast was magnificent. I loved the whole experience.
I mean, when I was blessed to see this in the Savoy, it was just the most incredible surprise and experience ❤ and to see this being performed again brings those memories back ❤ the vision and showmanship is impeccable xx
Art and artifice brilliantly fused in this staging and really sent the performance into the stratosphere at the Savoy. Both clever snd very funny. Good luck on Broadway peeps
Tom's performance when I saw the show in October I regard as one of my absolute favourite things ive seen on stage. Love love LOVE this interpretation, and of course Jamie Lloyd's masterful direction
imo this is one of the best olivier performances i’ve seen since amy lennox performed cabaret! tom is amazing - not surprised he won. and that voice! 😍
@@rosepetal34 Yeah, I found out too late that it was a woman. Nevertheless, both the woman and the male help are great and cool cameras in front of Tom.
Despite my misgivings about this minimalist production, damn, this was one hell of a performance. Sunset is one of my favorite musicals of all time and ngl, this might have changed my mind about Jamie's take on the material.
This is really quite impressive. He pulls this off really, really well. I was horrified that we'd walked in late from intermission while seeing this in Tampa. Apologies. But bravo to the tech that did this Live broadcast. Deft performance. I imagine the paired down staging really puts a focus on the performances. Though fond of an original that had hefty staging. The mansion elevated over the dance floor was stunning to see and doesn't translate in recordings. It was so heavy that the stage had been reinforced at expense to the venue. I'm excited that Sarah Brightman is doing it in Australia. ❤
@@chrislevoi6604 Ah, it's David Thaxton and Grace Hodgett Young isn't it? I jsut saw Grace in Hadestown too! Doh! I blame it on my worsening eyesight and my iphone screen lol. Thanks

I don’t want to say how many times I’ve watched this performance.. 🙂
Me too🤣
It's spectacular. Gives people who didn't see the Show at the Savoy a taste of what ir was like.
@@douglasduff4466 it’s going to be a regret of mine that I didn’t go and see it- I hope it comes back at some point!
Me too , it’s been literally on repeat , just stunning ❤

Tom Francis is an absolute star.
i loved him in this role

100% plaudits to @shaynamc 🎥

This bit at the Savoy FLOORED me
Me too! I went "oh wait! I'm alone in London and this is AWESOME!"
