Wanneer u een kind was, waar in Nederland gaat u naar basisschool en middelbare school? I think my really bad Dutch explains why I teach myself, rather than finding a Dutch tutor. as I
would drive them utterly insane, as I find it so difficult to understand Dutch.
Particularly as many Dutch words have multiple, often contradictory, meanings- it's only very recently that I found out that 'terug' means either 'against' or 'towards'.

Pretty good job on the exercise! The correct version would be: Toen u een kind was, waar in Nederland ging u naar de basisschool en de middelbare school?

I think you are doing great, just keep practicing. About the meaning of ‘terug’: where did you learn that? I think you mean the word ‘tegen’, which means against or to(wards). I am playing against my old team=ik speel tegen mijn oude team. I am talking to you=ik praat tegen jou

@@dutchforexpats You're right, I meant 'tegen'. And what's the difference between 'toen' and 'wanneer'?

When you are talking about a period the past, you say ‘toen’. E.g. I lived in Amsterdam in those days=ik woonde toen in Amsterdam. ‘Wanneer’ can be used to express a specific time. E.g. where and when did we meet before?=waar en wanneer hebben we elkaar eerder ontmoet?
