There are a lot of apex legend performance and FPS optimization guides, this one is a bit different. Many people have tinkered with max fps and V-sync, but not many have really went further to minimize stuttering, FPS spikes, drops and input lag, all these things can be very important especially for those who want that competitive edge and become the apex predator.

Apex has a problem with anisotropic filtering, even trilinear. Only happens in very heavy grass areas like in olympus. If you are using a monster of a graphic card, well, you will get a fps hit but not very noticeable, but for those hanging around 100 most of the time, turning the filtering to bilineal makes a huge difernece (it is the only ever game where i have found this diference). Literrally, from 50s fps in the grass areas to 80....
wow that is tottaly true it went from 70 to 90 fps when i put bilenear on
@@Dominance-qg6xz best fps with bilinear
Thanks a lot. My fps is still at 110-150 but feels wayyy smoother than before. I have just felt this kind of lag in fps without the numbers of it changing. This just made it all go away
Btw. If you can't get the "Set up Gsync" option to show up, you may need a display port cable as Gsync apparently doesn't work over HDMI.
Important. Up.
@Nicholas Conundrum Ottr's tutorial? What's sus about it?
Don’t use g sync it’s creates more input lag surprised people don’t know this
@@Gygsd From what I've heard, the increase in input lag is so minor that the stable, tearless frames more than make up for it. Also heard that as long as you cap your game refresh rate below your monitor's, it doesn't add input lag at all.
Hey buddy. For some reason I can't enable 144hz on my monitor. I'm using a dvi to displayport cable that plugs in from my monitor to my gpu

you can disable shadows by changing "setting.csm_enabled" "1" in the videoconfig file to "0" and making the videoconfig read only in the properties :)
modifying graphic, is bannable i think? you basically have advantage in dark areas, bannable mod.
@@alwanammarzaki535 you aren't modifying anything that the game isn't providing, it's the same as the videoconfig that is provided to you but just some people don't know that it exists and can be changed, YES this wouldn't be allowed in tournaments and ALGS and all that but if you are a casual player that just plays pubs or ranked you are totally fine and nothing would happen to you :)

BRO OTTR THANK YOU SO MUCH MY FPS INCREASED DRASTICALLY NGL
THIS WORKS SO WELL EVEN WITHOUT RTSS
what about disabling fullscreen optimizations in the properties tab of apex? and why would you increase texture filtering if your goal to have the most fps possible?
also other youtuber doing the same said that in the nvidia panel „high performance“ performs worse than just „performance“ and negative LOD Bias on „allow“ makes movements blurry instead so you should change that to „clamp“
Had great previous experiences with RTSS, unfortunate that I haven't been able to notice a positive difference since I'm getting server prediction errors. But that should be totally unrelated.
If you have Anisotropic filtering on with 8x, 16x the game looks so sharpened up, and on most of map it's pretty distracting specially on Olympus, I use 8x with Anisotropic on even tho people say its blurry, it's not that bad just imagine something like FXAA or Nvidia DLSS, that's what you call blurry stuff, All depends on your monitor and your likings ofc but Anisotropic with 8x is pretty good if you have mid pc
after following many, MANY guides, i’ve gotten from a 120 fps to a consistent 200fps. everything in this vid is super helpful.
how bro, my frames go from 80-90(in fights with a lot of ppl/ults/granades etc.) to 100-110 (in regual 3v3 fights) but when im casually crossing the map it goes to 165, as that is my monitor refresh rate (165hz)

6:14 Interesting, it's pretty well documented from numerous sources that RTSS has more input lag, but more stable frametimes than engine FPS limits (and vice versa).
I'm basing this off of the original post, eitherway at the end of the day stable >>> faster
@@ottr seeing a smooth line on msi afterburner osd is satisfying, however in practice, lower input lag with fps slightly fluctuating feels more smooth and responsive
@@Jwellsuhhuh You are right, RTSS adds input lag, thats why i stopped using RTSS and use autocapping by reflex or ingame cap. RTSS can add around 20-30ms which is a lot
@@karolkonieczka idk about 20-30ms but afaik it has a 1 frame buffer in order to facilitate the smooth frame line. guess it depends on how fast your game is running ie. 1 frame in 120fps would be 8.3ms lag

Can anyone elaborate on what issues Low Latency Mode on Ultra causes? The nvidia control panel says it minimizes latency when both V-sync and G-sync are enabled so I always thought it was good to have. TIA
It doesn't even do anything In Apex If you can use Reflex beacause Reflex will override low latency mode
Thanks for making this video man. There's so many other settings guides out there that are complete trash. Also, big props to old mate from reddit. Outstanding form gentlemen!

i have a $11k pc I've been messing with settings a lot of setting to try and get a stable 300fps setup with minimal tearing and motion blur i have a 360hz monitor but apex caps out at 300 sadly its been a struggle tuning apex with the servers being so inconsonant i had most of the setting you showed already set up on my global setting in NVidia control panel but changet the gsync from full screen only to both and set up all the setting in r5apex to be set and not say same as global setting the game became more stable so thank you for the excellent explanations
I have 2080Ti and latest drivers and stuff, but for some reason I do not have Shader cache option for Apex particularly, I do have it for some other games, but not for Apex, also in Global settings I can only set shader cache size with options like Driver Default, Disabled to(from 128Mb to 100Gb) Unlimited. What should I choose?
Hi, kinda late but i have some question about my setup. So i played apex with Asus TUF GamingF15 Laptop with Intel i5 series and GTX 1650. What setting the best for my gear to achieve more stable fps because i can't make low latency mode on (only off and ultra opt available). And I kinda can't understand on how to tweak/setting the graphic setting to make it better. Any suggestion fellow? I highly appreciate any of your suggestion below. Thank you so much!
I have a benq with Dyac+ premium should I use Dyac or gsync for apex legends?
Great guide, just one final detail then I can calm my Apex optimizing addiction. When we talk RTSS and capping to lowest frame.... Are we talking during an entire match, or just in general when not too much, not too little is happening?
I guess it bugs me, because I don't know what happens if the frames dip below the cap that I make. I guess it just gives some input lag during that exact time that it dips below? Thanks in advance!! GLHF
Basically the worst case you encounter on your system. You want to keep holding that framerate at all times for consistent frametimes.
Okay, not stuff like loading into a match, the drop itself when everyone is around, or during mapchange. But the worst that happens during actual gameplay.
amazing vid, worked perfectly my guy!
Dang! This help! Thank you!!!! Finally my PC can run 160 fps on this game(before around 120-130).
Depending on GPU you might want to either turn off anistropic filtering or setting it to 2x at most if you are running a higher texture budget.
Filtering higher resolution textures is taxing as all hell, so might want to turn it down for a bit more performance (this wasn't a problem in older games, but the more pixels per texture you are filtering the more it takes.. just saying).
Another thing that might be worth looking into is how stable frametimes affect recoil.. this might be completely anecdotal or down to placebo but i feel like capping your framerate properly via RTSS somehow makes recoil smoothing easier (i have 240+ fps regardless in any situation, but capping at my monitors 165hz refresh rate with RTSS somehow made this feel better overall).
Think this might be down to how recoil works as it uses frametime to interpolate toward the intended "push value" when you shoot.
Jesus loves you alot trust in His death 4 salvation and be saved from eternal hell
@@Fit4C jesus is fake
Capping your frames to 165, when you can push higher frames, just gives you more input delay.
@@Petrixxxxxxx Yeah but having too much frames over ur refresh rate is making the frame queue longer thus increasing input lag. So there a sweet spot of fps for each specific framerate.
anisotropic filtering is one of the settings that have a minimal impact on performance between turned off an 16x. I don't know what ancient device you should be running the game on to where AF would cost you even 1-2 frames, but at that point you have bigger issues than AF. It's not usually taxing at all. You might be confusing it with antialiasing which is hella taxing on GPUs.
Image sharpening ON really helped with textures and to see better the targets and didn't affect fps at all
Adds input lag though
@@MontySlython Not enough to matter.
@@jasonhurdlow6607 that depends on the rig and plenty of other factors, if you already use other settings that have some input lag then it could definitely tip the scales
I think it comes down how much the added input lag is balanced out by better visibility and vice versa. In a best case you can see everything and have no input lag at all, but we don't have (and never will have) a perfect setup.
Thank youuu!!!
G-sync is amazing for those who struggle to hit their refresh rate, but if u can hit it consistently then having it off is prob more beneficial, either way personally I like to look at my frame times using RTSS and try to keep it linear for the best smoothness. If your fps is unstable jumping across 180 up to 300 you will have inconsistency in your inputs due to frame time variance. At the end of the day it is personal preference. Also if ur PC pulls 300 or 400+ fps on Apex u def don't need to worry about framtimes since the frame time variance is near or less than a few milliseconds that may not affect you. only downside of having a consistent frame time is for the times that u would normally exceed ur frame cap you would be missing out on newer info since the frame times are lower at a higher fps, I choose consistency over higher fps because I feel like it is better for muscle memory
When i activate g-sync does i Need to use fast sync aswell or I can let The vsync option off
I have the same concern. The only thing i can recommend you to either change is capping fps with Steam/origin command or using reflex ON or boost so it auto capps with gsync and vsync on; do not use RTSS (it adds significant input lag in order to provide perfect stability. With ingame cap its still super stable and you dont get like extra ~20ms of input lag dependly on your refresh rate. So in the end if you cant hit your monitors refresh rate or you can but you still prefer stability turn on Gsync + NVCP Vsync + Reflex On or Boost.
On the other hand if you can mantain your monitors refresh ALWAYS, and you can use motion blur reduction (ULMB or DyAc +) if your monitor suppor it( remeber you cant use MBR and VRR at the same time) consider using it as it makes your image so much clearer but for some people can cause headache or eyestrain. I dont recommend other BFI / MBR technologies then the 2 i mentioned.
3rd option is when you can run game on much higher fps so you dont use gsync and vsync and frame cap but you should use reflex (it wont autocap since not using gsync)
6:51 I can't get the Rivatuner to put that info and graphs on an overlay. Is there another program I need to download for what is displayed here?
what do you mean by set your own resolution in the config file?
"Prefer maximum performance" can cause stutter, when the GPU runs into the power limit, which creates a framedrop when the driver is then downclocking the GPU speed while the CPU is still requesting the same GPU render work. You can use this if you keep your GPU under the power limit for example by limiting FPS etc.
so what do u think the best option to use ? cause i get stuttering even on 3060ti gpu
I can use this trick as apex recently started to lag a bit for some reason
You uploaded this right when I started looking at new GPUs lol
does this achieve the same effect playing on stretched resolution? (1440x1080)
Thanks Bro! Deserved a Sub
Yep this works, my frames went from mostly being around 90 to it got as high as over 120, I've never even seen that before on my setup

it works! i feel the game better and looks very nice! TY
sorry this guide is so confusing. where do i get this rtss software? no links? extra software to get stable fps?
G sync+V sync On if not if fps drop around 120-110 will feel stutter/sluggish(NVCP)
Reflex On in game will auto capped your fps by 7, no need for riva or manual capped.
For my experience, you don't need any sync at all if your fps consistent hit your max monitor.
I use new monitor 1440p 165hz and with this setting it's feel smooth and free tearing.
I played 1080p 240hz for multiple seasons. Never used gsync or vsync and never noticed screen tearing ever. I recently switched to 1440p and without gsync/vysync enabled in control panel u can clearly see the tear running a solid 180fps on a 1440p 180hz monitor. Some of this tips will only be noticed by some depending on your hardware
Yeah, if you have a setup that can get stable FPS that matches your refresh rate, G-sync is not the best. If your frames drop constantly it's worth the small sacrifice of input delay to get a more stable mage.
Remember to lock Fps to 3 below your monitor refresh rate when using gsync.
Follow blurbusters guide If youre unsure
@@Petrixxxxxxx no, do NOT do that. That was due to an issue awhile back that would cause instability to the system. That was fixed years ago. If you use RTTS and cap that at the same time it will not work. Just use RTTS normally and it works just fine.

Hey man! I did tons of testing with the videocfg and autoexec files. While you can change specific things like gamma (brightness) and shadows on/off, settings like those aren't specifically labeled, and are likely a combo of a bunch of other small settings.
I reccomend deleting the videocfg file contents, saving that, un-check read only, and set all the in game settings you want. Then close the game and copy the newly edited videocfg. Make changes that you know and are labeled like the gamma and turning off shadows, then save and check read-only.
Hope this helped! Lmk if you have any more questions!

I've noticed freesync works better on 140hz or lower. Got a new monitor with 240hz I'm capped on 120fps on both but the new monitor works great without freesync
same, i test and play now on xl2546s
What do you use when you see your FPS, GPU etc.. on the side.
Damn, I'm currently using a Zowie 2546 and it's not a G-Sync compatible monitor. That seems high key unfortunate that I cannot use both Dyac+ and have the smooth set up like suggested in the gudie.
For anyone lagging in the lobby you hasve to change shadow spot detail to HIGH rather than VERY HIGH
So many stuff went wrong for me following this guide. broken my game
Wait what if my only setting are ultra or off? What should I pick
So I want to make sure I understand right. After I download RTSS, I run a few games without it first and take note of what the lowest FPS is that my setup is fluctuating to. Then cap it on RTSS to that number under Framerate limit?

Hey! at the end where you said "you have to run apex as an admin" Could you explain what this does and how it helps with recording and streaming? thanks!
just gives it more access to your pc and makes running it a lot smoother. basically works the same as a leveled keycard where admin is one of the more powerful ones and gives you more/ easier access to stuff.
@@SAT0SHUNI Oh okay Thank you!
Depends on Your needs. But I am playing on 3440x1440p @ 144hz (freesync=enabled), fps locked to 137 via AMD Adrenalin panel + vsync=on (double buffered), and frame pacing is pretty consistant. Texture streaming is set to insane. For my casual play it's sufficient.
I have a 144hz monitor, but my pc usually runs like 200 to 230 fps, so i should lock my fps on 190(or200) or 144?
should we put same gpuframerate as u in local files?
On latency mode I only have ultra, should I put off?
How i deal with input delay in low-end GPUs (RX 570 and i5 10400f) (edit: full focus on input lag. If you want a super smooth experience, follow ottr's RTSS tips):
it's basically the ingame FPS cap: bold, i know, but i've tested many solutions, and it works - because it makes sense.
I cap my FPS to my monitors refresh rate (75fps, 75hz) using the *launch command* : +fps_max 75. Driver or RTSS's caps may introduce some amount of delay because they are injected/artificial caps, defeating the effort - though Riva's Scanline Sync is so damn good and smooth, great alternative to vsync on non competitive games, or just the RTSS cap itself, really smooth.
I run the game at very min settings @1080p native, just to make sure i can hit 75fps at all times. Tearing can be a problem in some days, messing the "smooth feel", but there are days where it doesnt seem to matter: maybe servers, maybe background tasks. Moving from Steam to Origin seems to have helped a bit (grain of salt).
To any one interested, just look up "Battlenonsense input lag" on youtube: the dude made scientific-ish videos exploring AMD Anti-Lag, Nvidia Low Latency and Nvidia Reflex, trying to understand how they work, but also how (ingame and external) FPS caps are helpful in reducing input lag.
TLDR about the guy's work: the reason capping FPS lowers input lag is because when the GPU is not at 100%, frames produced by the CPU will be rendered as soon as possible (because GPU is available), reducing delay/input lag.
I probably wouldn't cap it at 120fps (if it was my minimum), the fluctuation wouldn't be so bad (for me). But it's really worth it at lower framerates: you get rid of the fluctuation without losing much responsivity, *shockingly* .
If I had an Nvidia card I'd enable Reflex and not cap it, since it basically keeps the GPU just below 98%-ish at any framerate, giving the same effect. Having reflex+boost basically forces the GPU to "work hard" on max clocks, as to mitigate the 2% loss in GPU power. I don't have an Nvidia card, so idk, maybe capping would still be worth due to the consistency of frametimes and muscle memory.
Since I game on an AMD card, I enable Anti-Lag: it improves input lag when the GPU is at 100%, meaning the drops below 75fps fell less jarring (they still feel noticeably worse, even when it hits just 74fps, because GPU would be at 100%). It's low-end, but it doesnt have to be jarring.
personally I feel like Freesync really messes with Apex, try Low-latency set to ON Vsync Disabled, Reflex Enabled in game, Sunshadow coverage Enabled, Shadow detail disabled, volumetric lighting & dynamic spot shadows disabled, impact marks high, ragdolls, effects, low, model detail medium or low.
So is it better to play apex on an invidia card over an amd card?
how can i turn of the fps limit, changing the advanced launch commands dooesnt work?
3:22 you have to tick the box below that says :enable settting for the selected display model ,if not the gsync will not work 👍🏻 @ottr
