    On the jamming maybe the pullie right beside the winch is to keep the rope down so it dosent ride up ?????
    Good luck and have fun

      @LBWAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey Murray, the pulley kind of helps we have since discovered when we have the rope coming from port side, but there is nothing on the other side when coming across from starboard rear so not sure what their original setup plan was. We still jam it, but are getting better at keeping an eye out for the jam now before it gets too tangled. Thanks for your suggestion and for watching 🙌

    We just made plywood rings under the winch to raze it up 60mm use three layers 20mm ply and epoxy them down and paint them longer bolts all done.

    • @LBWAdventures
      @LBWAdventures  3 месяца назад +1

      I think we are going to have to look to do something like that as well to get them up to the right level as the jamming is becoming very annoying now 🥲. Thank you for your fix, we will see what we can do once we are back in Perth.

    My first trip solo on a 54 mono, blew an oil hose, pumped all the oil, and seized the motor in 7m swell, heading South into 35knot winds,had to anchor in 50m of heavy seas and sos coast guard. You guys had it easy.Good luck. see you out there,east coast.Aus

    If you look up the Harken winch manuals, they recommend a rope angle of at least 8 degrees down from the horizontal plane. Remount the winch on a raised platform with a tilted top face. Great video 👍👍

    • @LBWAdventures
      @LBWAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey, thanks for the reference to the manual. We were hoping to avoid having to remount the winch, but if that's what it needs, we will have to look at that when we are back in Perth, and in the meantime just be super careful with it to try and catch the jams before they happen. Thanks for watching and for sending through some advice 🙌

    • @nortonmolly
      @nortonmolly 4 месяца назад +1

      @@LBWAdventures If moving the winch is not an option. You can get creative with the rope path and turning blocks. Usually on one side of the boat has a better path because both winches turn the same direction.

      💯 the ropes from starboard are coming across at a much better angle than the port side. I think we might have to get a rigger to have a look for us once we’re in Perth

  • @DeneOLoughlin-ek9ee

    The lead to the winch needs to be horizontal or slightly down. That guide block next to the winch is almost certainly there for that. As a marine professional, yachtie, boat and ship surveyor and insurance assessor for over 30 years (and fellow Kiwi) I am worried by your inexperience and lack of knowledge for the voyage you are embarking on. The boat also has a few issues. You can't call for help like in a van. Love your adventures and attitude but you're scaring me this time!

    • @LBWAdventures
      @LBWAdventures  4 месяца назад +2

      Hey Dene, ah, it's ok... we scare ourselves sometimes too, but we don't have a death wish and will do everything we can to stay safe. Jumping in the deep end and learning how to swim is something we have a habit of doing, and touch wood, it generally works out ok 😜. Love that your a fellow kiwi and any advice with all your experience is happily accepted :)

      @LBWAdventures I definitely hope you're okay. Not sure where you are in real time, but that West Australian cost can be very unforgiving, particularly at this time of year. Love the Kiwi can do attitude, but this is an adventure even an experienced yacht person would take very seriously. Good luck guys. Keep those videos coming and we'll all know you're safe🤞👍

      Yes we are getting the picture that this is a journey perhaps others might not attempt, but we will make it!!!! Positive thinking 😜

    • @DeneOLoughlin-ek9ee
      @DeneOLoughlin-ek9ee 4 месяца назад +1

      @LBWAdventures what is that sprung block next to the winch for if it isn't a lead block? It's quite close to the winch but if that creates issues, another block a bit further away but at the same level as the base of the winch will work. Winch wraps can create dangerous situations, especially in heavy conditions and have caused many serious injuries. I would put that at or near the top of your fix it list.

    • @LBWAdventures
      @LBWAdventures  4 месяца назад +2

      Yes that block seems to be in a strange place. It helps a little but is super close and still doesn’t put the rope in the best alignment…. But yes we will try get something sorted to make it a bit more reliable 🤞

    Oh bugger. But I'm glad you turned back. I asked if you had a marine survey done last week & you said you did. Was it a dry dock, full-blown, in-depth survey?

      Yer we are happy we turned back too. Some of the stories we have been told, that would have been crazy to tackle the Kimberley's with no way of seeing the bottom.... 😱. It was an out of water survey that we got when we brought the boat, but it looks like a few things were missed in the report. Don't worry we are being as safe as we can be, we want to make it back to Perth in one bit!!!! 😜 Thanks for the message 💙

      Thank you, we always enjoy messages letting us know the videos are being enjoyed 🙌. Yes we had navigational options but nothing that gave us the depth under the boat which was a worry. Gee guys I'm sitting having me breakfast thinking what next for you .I would say the sea gods are giving you issues, so when all is fixed, it will be plain sailing. The caravan life you had did have ups and downs but like this you will get through it. BE SAFE.

    • @LBWAdventures
      @LBWAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      Hi Dean, yes we were actually comparing the caravan yesterday in regard to this and realised for one, the caravan was new and not 20+ years old, we were the first owners and knew all there was to know about its history, where as now we just have little bits of info here and there, and when we brought the caravan we spent about 6 weeks setting it all up before we set off, where as this is our trip to get the boat back to Perth to do all the cool things, so we just have to get there and fix what breaks along the way which is making for a interesting and at time challenging trip. Of course we are doing everything we can to ensure our safety and the rest is just what ever comes 😜 - Thanks as always for your message and for watching 💙

    You haven’t had the boat very long. Not enough time to get to know the vagaries of the vessel. They all have them, even new boats. Combine that with your lack of experience and you have put yourselves on a very sharp learning curve. Here’s wishing you safe passage. Enjoying your videos.

    • @LBWAdventures
      @LBWAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      You're 100% right, we are certainly on a sharp learning curve. Once we are back in Perth we will pull this boat apart and fix and set it up how we want it, but first we need to get there, so we're just rolling with the punches at this point. Thank you for your safe wishes, and thanks for watching. 💙

    I believe you will find your sheet lead to the winch is too high. The loaded line usually should be below or even with the base of the winch.

    • @LBWAdventures
      @LBWAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes I believe you might be right. It seems that the rope with the pulley is too long, the problem is if we shorten it the line, it will rub on the deck.... might have to put that on the list of major updates when we make it back to Perth and remount the winch on something that makes it sit a little higher. Thanks for your suggestion and for watching 😀

    The RUclips channel Sailing into Freedom ran aground in the Kimberly area and was a total wreck. It’s all on RUclips. He had a basic catamaran so I don’t think Plucky (his name) had a depth sonar.

    • @LBWAdventures
      @LBWAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes, we have seen that video which is a little disconcerting. There was no way we were going to attempt the Kimberley's with no depth sounder on top of us trying to learn to sail this boat. It was sad to see him loose his cat, and def a situation we didn't want to copy. Thanks for watching :)
