This video just described my exact situation. P0087 only under load or full throttle. Have done everything known to man they say will fix it but I’m down to it being the injectors. Wish I saw this awhile ago
Very underrated channel. I appreciate the heads up on one of your other videos where you suggested using valve cover bolts for y-bridge next to the turbo. I easily killed 3 hours trying to spin it the oem bolt. The P0087 is a pita...delt with it for 2yrs until it got too bad. Definitely takes some diagnostics. I experienced pretty much everything you mentioned and had to figure out if it's high side or low side and go from there. For me, it was on the high $ide. Edge was telling me that injectors were +1/-1 so I rolled the dice and got a 10mm S&S since it comes with a regulator and then got it tuned all done about this time last year and it fixed it for me. Great acceleration and mpg now days.
Rob could you PLEASE do an example of a EFI live economy tune ? Possibly LMM style or whatever you feel comfortable. Thanks brother your tow tune was a great dive into tuning! Thank you!!
This was helpful. Still need to figure mine out. Mine just started this weekend pulling my 5th wheel. First time it happened my lift pumps fuse fell out so I thought for sure that’s all it was. But coming back home it did it to me again so I guess maybe it wasn’t my lift pump. Before mine sets it tells me I need to replace my fuel filter which I just barely did change all of them so I’m not sure what that’s about. Truck is tuned but I wasn’t the one that did it so unfortunately I have no idea what the settings are.
You described exactly what my truck Is doing. Only doing this pulling my 5th wheel. The fuel was extremely hot on the return line near the fuel tank. Now just worried the Stealership will charge double msrp for the GM injectors
Exactly why I made the video. I like to diag everything before I quote a price but after getting this description from the customer so many times I just sell injectors.
Great Video & Knowledge: I just experienced my first limp mode experience: OAT about 50*F LMM Towing a 9,000# 5th Wheel Truck was working fine until I put the pedal down to pass. Just a few moments later-change fuel filter alert came on followed by limp mode/reduced power mode in heavy traffic. Note fuel filter had about 75% life left on it. It was changed around 2,500 miles ago. Truck just hit 100,000 miles Any more additional thought you could offer?
Thanks for the explanation. Great video. I have the same issue, but I have learned that when going up a hill, I can put it in manual shift, as long I keep the rpms from going under 2000, it does not set the p0087 code. Do you know why that is? Thanks
Great video! I found mine (lmm) falls on it’s face when towing heavy up hill and it’s in Regen. It only does it in regen. I was thinking that is collapsed fuel hoses. What do you think?
I use ATF 1quart, 2 cycle oil 4oz, power service per tank in '07 LMM. I've heard of guy using 5 gallons of atf in an 07 duramax per tank. Obviously that much atf is to be used as fuel not just a supplement. Atf is an old farmers trick in diesel engines of course originally farms were paying. $.89 per quart. Economically speaking doesn't make much sense any more due higher price atf.
Rob there’s also a table where you can adjust the threshold between the actual vs. desired fuel pressures. That table is in an LBZ file but not in an LMM one.
my 440k mile lmm does it only when fuel is hot, have a lift pump and a sump to eliminate fuel delivery issue, I really want to turn off the limp in the efi live tune and ramp up the cp3 duty cycle like kennedy does i have efi on my laptop... maybe this is how he does it, i wish i knew, cant really spend the money and it wont even tow a pontoon boat 45 min to the lake without limping
Bro if you really replaced your head gaskets you waisted so much money and time the coolant system is only supposed to loose it’s pressure when the ambient temp is high and it’s clearly cold and snowy where u are she’s supposed to hold that pressure she looks perfect to me. Unless your coolants black don’t change your head gaskets please
Did u replace them yourself. I bought my LbZ two years ago start of winter was having the same problem and took its to TMS diesel a very knowledgeable shop that builds drag trucks to semis well they all laughed at me and said the upper radiator hose and coolant res should hold pressure since it’s a pressurized system if it’s not staying pressurized in the winter u have a leak it only looses its pressure in the summer because of the ambient temp matching it making it loose pressure
@@robsdiesel2470 yes the said it’s perfect and that’s how it’s designed it’s a pressurized system it’s supposed to hold the pressure in the winter not in the summer it shouldn’t be pressurized when it’s warm out if it’s still pressurized after 12 hours after driving in the warm then yes that’s a problem
That really helped me understand how return with words a common person can understand

Are you getting a P0087?
What fuel additive do you personally use/suggest, to prevent premature internal injector wear?
I don’t use anything honestly. It’s expensive and I haven’t seen a hole lot of improvement for a daily driver.
@@robsdiesel2470 interesting, i was just curious because most ppl do use something for lubricity. Hotshot, stanadyne, 2-stroke, something...

Hi Rob, what type of injectors do you recommend? I only pull my 30’ fifth wheel about 5,000 miles a year, max! New or remanufactured?
Reman are fine threw a reputable company like LDS, S&S, Exergy etc. DO NOT BUY REFURBISHED injectors.
Can you determine which injectors it may need? Some of mine have been replaced and don’t want to buy all 8
Yes. With that tool I talk about. It tests them individually
@@robsdiesel2470 something you do running down the road? Or just idling in the driveway?

Mine is reading P0087 & P0674. Send help. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks for the info. And the Bible verse. 😏
If my injector balance rates are reading perfectly do you think it could still be the injectors?
Yes. I see it all the time and balance rates look perfect. I don’t even look at balance rates anymore unless it’s an LB7.

Coolant shrinks when it cools off (looses pressure). The gasket was blown on #7 and at #8.
