- Now that school is over for the summer, I can focus on making my game movies again. First up: Tomb Raider. This is the new 2013 reboot game, which I found to be a fantastic game.
If you haven't seen my movies before, my goal is to take a game, record footage of my gameplay, and edit that together into a movie. I do this by focusing on story, primarily driven by the cutscenes. However, if you only include the cutscenes, you don't have a coherent story. So I include some gameplay as well, but only the minimum gameplay necessary to understand the story. The goal is to keep this looking as much like a movie as possible, so I try to limit any obvious game moments as much as I can, especially putting focus on the more cinematic gameplay elements.
As before, I try to cut out as many game indicators as I can, such as button prompts, but sometimes there are HUD pop ups that would be either too difficult to remove, or would significantly lower the quality of the movie by being removed. So, I removed what I could, but I couldn't remove everything.

Absolutely loved this part of tomb raider. It focuses so much on the character. They made her feel more like a real person. She's authentic. She has pain, she's sensitive and she's not just one thing. There are many layers to her.
Agreed. I don't know why people are complaining. This game and the second one, "Rise of the Tomb Raider" were amazing and I am so pumped for the 3rd one.
+Luis Torres Yes it's always great to switch things up. I beat this game in less than 3 games I was so interested. I'm talking no sleep, and strained eyes. It was that serious. Amazing game. I liked all the others they did the same but this one I had to finish something each time I finished another thing lol
This game was amazing. Such a fantastic reboot of Tombraider. I applaud the developers for an incredible job. Everything was so well done. It's the small little details, the atmosphere, the gameplay, the experience is just immersive. They've made Lara Croft so human, and relatable. I can't recommend this game enough. I really enjoyed this game from beginning to finish.

agreed. never even liked tomb raider before but this is one of my all time favourite games. you can tell how much hard work crystal dynamics put into this game.

i wouldn't say it's unique as the last of us/uncharted are quite similar. but tomb raider reboot blows uncharted away imo. uncharted was great but nathan drake is such a dull character that i cannot get interested in the story at all. the last of us and tomb raider are very much up there as my favourite ever games. and i've been playing games for 20 plus years.
I've been playing Tomb Raider since 1996, and it's great to see comments like this - because it means there are still people passionate about TR. Personally, though, I didn't really like the reboot all that much. Yes, the visuals, atmosphere, and gameplay were good, but the story was extremely cheesy, the characters bland and uninteresting, and ever since completing the game in 2013 I didn't feel any particular need to go back and play again. Maybe it's because I'm still clinging to what Tomb Raider used to be (i.e. an atmospheric game about solving puzzles, collecting keys, and pulling switches), but I feel like they could've rebooted the franchise in a better way. Some of the best parts of the game were the side quests (challenge tombs) rather than the bombastic Hollywood action packed extravaganza that are the action/story sequences.

I gotta say, this is by far the best edited/played game/movie I've seen. All of the gameplay is very clean, tightly trimmed and well integrated with the cutscenes.
So many others I've watched just feel slapped together with excess footage of player deaths, menus, loading screens and other stuff that detracts from the "movie" flow of the story.
Pretty clear you put much more time and thought into this. Well done!

I've watched all 3 of your Lara croft movies your tomb raider movies is how I got to know about tomb raider in the first place and that's how I got to know about the series great job on working all three of them your one of my favorite game movie channels.
Took me right back to the days when I used to look forward to our lad getting the new Tomb Raider game for Christmas and I would then spend the next few days just watching him work out the puzzles and battle his way through. I've never been a game player myself but enjoy watching stuff like this!! Thank you, and we'll done!!

5 minutes into the gameplay and there is already chaos.
just finished playing this game like 30 minutes ago and it was really enjoyable. the moment she picked up 2 pistols to kill Mathias(?) is where she really became Lara Croft.

Just finished watching this and all I could say is... fantastic! It really made feel as if I was with Lara throughout her journey into becoming a survivor from the start to end.
I would love to see this again but in the PS4 version and using the Definitive Edition of the game where the details & FX are just astonishing. The results would've been a mind-blowing epicness of a tomb raider movie.
A new tomb raider game in UE5 is in the making.

Well done! This is my second favorite game of all time. I remember the moment I finished it on normal, I got right back in and finished it on hard mode. This movie version lets me relive the experience without digging out my 360 again. I love it!

This is my favourite game, I've already completed it twice and watching this makes me want to complete it for a third time as it's such a great experience. Even the second time round, I still managed to cry yet again at Roth's death... That has to be the saddest part in my opinion but that just made the story that much greater! I can't wait for the next one! I keep saying to myself that this tomb raider story would make an epic movie and you've done a pretty awesome job of making that happen, if only there was a realistic version of this film and more dialog then that would make one epic movie!

On an unrelated note: I never realized it, but there are even subtle hints at how much stronger Lara gets throughout the course of the game...something as subtle as the way she pulls herself up onto ledges at the beginning compared to about minute 40. That's pretty cool
Right she seriously taught herself a lot and got stronger throughout the game while the gameplay got harder. It's different and I like it just as much as the other tomb raider games.
Yes, I know this is a game, but I can't get over how much abuse this woman is taking. Falls, arrows, bullets, beatings, exposure, possible blunt force concussion trauma and not to mention the psychological effects of waking up surrounded by bodies and skeletons. Yet, not a single broken bone, lasting cut, or scar. After all this, she still maintains that almost comical hotness. There, that's my rant, and all the same, this is a good movie:)
But she does have cuts and scars in the ending cutscene.

Exactly! A lot of people bitched because they thought this new Lara was too much of a weakling compared to the old Lara, but everything you just pointed out proves that she has even more strength and endurance than the old Lara ever had!
Awesome version. Especially appreciate no channel logo in the corner and no annoying subtitles. The pop game movie channels always do one or the other. A clean cinema version is your niche. Thanks for your game movie uploads and subscribed to see more!
I came back after just watching the real live action 2018 movie. It was so nice to see how much from the 2013 they took! Amazing :)

To those waiting for Arkham Asylum, sorry but it probably won't be my next project anymore. I was working on it, but somewhere along the way my capture program stopped capturing, without me noticing, causing me to lose a lot of footage. So the Arkham series is going to be put on hold for now. I plan to get back to it later, but I'm not in the mood to start the game over quite yet.
No offence but by the time this game is halfway Lara should be looking like Jesus from Passion of Christ.....all that falling and sliding is just too much. Loved the game though.

I have been playing lara croft from when i was a kid, she has been a true inspiration for me. This part being the reboot even powers her character more and the development this game has leveled up , salute to that. A survivor is born is the best one by this franchise , rise of TR, even better. I hope to continue playing TR games in future . I hope they come up with a new one soon

I haven't kept up with the Tomb Raider series and stumbled across the new game a few hours ago. Wow! That is NOT the same Lara Croft I used to know. Now I'm definitely going to have to pick up this game. Great job on this!
Thank you so much for this. I recently bought the game on sale, and tried playing through it. I got maybe halfway through before giving up from a sheer lack of fun. I found the gameplay so shallow that it actively detracted from the experience, so this video lets me properly enjoy the story.

Game movies are so much better than actual movies most of the time. Anyone who dislikes the rebooted Lara needs to be shot I have this game on PS3 and even bought it again on PS4 for sake of graphical comparison (PS4 is better, but not by much). Lara in the PS4 version looks weird to me though, not really that much likeness compared to previous games of the character we all know and love. I sincerely hope Crystal Dynamics make another TR game :)

i love all of the tomb raider games and to me if you truly dislike this and cant see that this is a reboot and an origin story then maybe you dont need to play the tomb raider games if you cannot appreciate the uniqueness in all of them

Man, thank you so much for the work you had putting this all together! I didn't play the game so I had to watch your video so I could start the comic series that has been made which has this game as backstory. I'd just like to suggest you to show more of the environment next time. It feels like this game has so much work put into making the landscapes and all that. That would probably make the video longer but I'm sure it would be worth it, in games like this one. Thanks!!

Nicely done,,, the movie gives Lara Croft a lot of realism. This is how animation should be.
No, TressFX was added to the game pretty late in the development of the game. I meant the HDcam cutscenes. The opening cutscene doesn't use game engine graphics at all. I don't do subtitles because for me, they distract from the experience. If I am going to enable subtitles, they need to be optional. Until I have the time to sub them myself through youtube, I'm leaving them off.

The music at the beginning reminds me of part of Vangelis’ haunting Bladerunner soundtrack .. bloody brilliant. I love this game, I love the TombRaider trilogy.

I just replayed this and Rise last year. And just finished Shadow yesterday. I’m so sad it’s over but I hope to god they continue down this storyline. Ugh. I love it so much 😭
I don't think there's any reason to think it's over.
I tried 1080p but it caused the frame rate to be unstable. It averaged a good enough frame rate, but it was highly unstable. One second the FPS would be 60, the next second it would be 10. In the end it was highly noticeable on the recording, so I decided to do 720p instead.

this game is pretty difficult but omg its so much fun. It took me around a couple weeks (playing this 2-6 hours a day) to finish but overall the graphics were amazing

To me, this game seems like a mix between Resident Evil 4 and Assassin's Creed 4. Resident Evil for the combat, survival elements and story. Assassin's creed for the parkour elements and island setting. But thats coming from someone who hasn't played this game yet.

Her eyes are hazel in this game and brown in "Rise of the Tomb Raider". I love how the recent Alicia Vikander movie followed both storylines so well....

I keep shuddering when I watch 21:13 because that hole on her side is gonna get infected if she keeps plunging in strange bodies of water. As a softer, this is probably what keeps me awake at night.

Thanks for making this into the movie! This was well put together! I'd rather watch than play. I haven't finished the game, but it's really intense compared to the other Tomb Raiders. Obviously it's very unrealistic, I feel they could have toned it down a lot and made it more similar to the older TR, but it is what it is. I still love the TR series, just wish they'd keep it like the old games.
Tomb Raider has never been realistic. They just took the same ideas and improved on the story telling.

You could play this at a theater and charge admission. Great action movie!
I don't think there's any dialogue there, or if there is, there's not much. I think that scene simply builds on the many other scenes that clearly explain why they've become what they have become. That scene just shows more of the same. I think the river of blood, with the skeletons everywhere shows that pretty clearly as well. I cut it mostly for time, but also because it wasn't editing together very well either.

I kept picturing Lara Croft and Jason Brody (Far Cry 3) comparing scars, talking about weapons, and playing the "Did this happen to you" game. Did you know a guy in a red tank top with a Mohawk? Did you survive a helicopter crash? Did your friends make a camp and try to fix an old boat? Ever try lighting your arrows on fire? Aren't zip lines awesome? Did every red barrel you shoot blow up too? Did you find any old bunkers or scientific research places? Did you get a cool samurai blade? Did you climb a radio tower? Did you fall a lot too? Did you have to deal with a crazy cult leader? Did you have to do horribly painful first aid on yourself? Aren't headshots the coolest?

This game is a true meaning of being brave and wrong like a this girl she wanted to give up but she didn't give up,this game will teach if you foces hard enough.
