- Currently posting this from a hotel lobby! I hate not working and I had to do this while chilling at the beach, but now that it‘s done I can concentrate on my studies and on my vacation ofc :D
I don‘t really wanna make this into a long series, so perhaps the next part will be SUPER long. I feel like some of you wouldn‘t mind, but I‘ll still see what I can do…

Bit of clarification: The occult is actually widely favoured in Japan, but it's not the Satanic cult that Yandere Sim depicts it as. So I could see an occult club working in the school, provided it's not the completely unrealistic one that the game went with.

This! Very nice, thank you. I was wondering because if people thought an occult club might be weird, I was a foreign student at a senior high school where I could take tea ceremony classes if I wanted to. Not sure what would be a good equivalent to that in the West lol. Honestly, I'd love to know what could be an equivalent and how fancy people would assume that school is. Archery? Horseback riding? Fencing?
I am *eating* up these designs!!! They all look so good, Taro looks so soft, Kizana looks like an absolute brat, and Oka looks so adorable!!! I hope you don't mind me continuing what I did in the last video-
Taro - An average looking guy that doesn't really have much going for him when it comes to his looks. But, Taro mamages to capture just about everyone's attentiom due to his kind, helpful, and soft-spoken nature.
In the past Taro has managed to accumulate multiple admires due to how personality. That has continued into his high school years, but it seems like he doesn't have a strong interest in romance, and instead focuses on helping others as best he can.
During the first day of school, Taro helped Ayano navigate around the school, showing her the different clubs and classrooms. From there, while his attention seems to be elsewhere, he shares greetings to Ayano whenever they pass each other and will engage in small talk at time.
Kizana - A haughty girl who believes she's above everything and everyone. Coming from a rich family and not having to do much, Kizana spends all of her time perfecting her acting skills and brushing up and every musical and play out there.
Because of her personality many students have grown to dislike Kizana, quietly talking about her awful attitude. With that, Kizana has become aquantices with the Mutsumi's group and sharing gossip with them. The teachers don't pay it any mind, as whenever Kizana gets im trouble she merely pays the Headmaster to ignore her wrong doings.
Kizana has also ruined Kokona's reputation simple because she was getting more attention. Altering her appearance to appear more like Kokona, and gossiping about her to others.
Oka - The recent Leader of the "Literature" Club, a strange girl that isn't well liked amongst other students. Not only for her strange behaviours but also because of her goth aesthtetic, which some perseve as demonic. This makes Oka a prime target for Mustumi's group and she's constantly picked on by them.
This doesn't deter Oka, as she has pretty thick skin. She's still timid and is afraid of confrontation, but words aren't going to ger her down. She may not be a prime leader like most think, but Oka proves herself to the other members of the "Literature" club, by providing them a safe space from the students that look down on them.

I like to think this version of Taro was pulling girls literally because he's so simple and kind to them ngl... the kind of guy who's nice without expecting certain things in return, just cause he's a decent guy. That's the vibes he gives me.

If i mind myself he was Yandev's self insert, i can't comfirm but i wouldn't be surprised if it was true. This one makes way more sense for him actually, naturally, and not forcefully being a kind and attractive guy, so he could rizz 10 girls. Taro is supposed to be bland so the players can give him any personality they like. But that makes him boring af. The only vague personality we know about him is that he's *nice guy™* and has a high sense of justice.
For Oka, occult clubs would actually be acceptable in Japan due to the culture being highly spiritual and also because Occultism is NOT satanic.
I learned this info. from Callimara, if you know her. Yes, she also did a redesign series with these characters. Yes, I think they are also great. That’s what I like about these redesign series from different people; they can all have different thought processes and still come out with equally awesome characters!
Anyways, if we were going to try and keep the satanic aesthetic of the club, then it could be revamped to a Satanist club disguised as something else, like you said.

The fact he would use Japanese esc culture within the game while knowing basically nothing about it and botching it in the same breathe. honestly, kizana feels SO much closer to her snobby and bratty personality. she definitely would wanna be a heather and regina george -- a strong, better-than-you trendsetter -- but probably is too focused on getting every boy and being popular to forget they end up dying lol.
oka, oka, oka!! she feels a lot more goth and 'creepy' with all the black makeup; a lot more creative than her original design. and yeeeah, when you think about it, an occult club seems a little...intense? i think if it was an undercover paranormal club, being hidden under clubs my [performace arts] school used to have, like forensics and even philosophy. oh well, if you wanna summon demons, you gotta go bold, i guess LMAO
but woo! another redesign well done! and IMO, vandalizing isn't the right word, lol. your work is more of being an innovative twist [for the better]! also, don't be pressured to make the series too long, do whatever works for you; don't overwork yourself! whatever you make (especially with your art style) will be eye-candy regardless! :D

I love Oka’s redesign and the idea of her being VERY tall to the point she towers over her peers, and it may make her unpopular with boys in her grade who are insecure that she’s taller than them. Which is part of why she’s attracted to Senpai, being one of the only boys in their grade taller than her. It’s so cute.
Plus he's very kind and likely has said nothing about her height
Just btw, the occult is actually pretty accepted in japan! It's much more than what we view it as in the west, its spirits, demons, monsters, gods, etc. It's just that yandev didn't know this, i guess, and decided to use the more Western idea of occult. It wouldn't be all that weird for a school to have an occult club since it also ties in with things like folklore and history.
Edit: I forgot to add that occult clubs do exist in japanese schools. It just depends on the school, since clubs are student run and maintained. Also, goth doesnt necessarily have a style! Its about the music the person listens to, so even if you wear typically "normal" fashion, you can still be considered goth if you listen to goth music ^^
I don't know why, but I see Taro as a huge people pleaser. Like, he has this soft way to tell Osana when something bothers him (Except a few examples, of course). He likes to help everyone he can, and tries not to upset anyone and lets pass a lot of things he shouldn't (the nurse and the teacher cof cof)

I really like Kizana’s redesign! I think her old design makes her look like a spoiled version of Kokona. And as for Oka’s, I think it fits her more than her old design.
yes i remember in one of her descriptions she got jealous of kokona so she copied her twin drill style, but i’m 90% sure it’s just because yandere dev either forgot or wasn’t creative enough to come up with a new design
These are all amazing!! The only thing I would’ve done differently is maybe if you stayed true to the idea that “Oka doesn’t really take care of herself”, she could have a grunge/up cycle/hand-me-down fashion style. Messy uniform that hasn’t been rewashed, maybe it’s one size too big, those overnight pimple patches still on, mismatched socks. And to pull in with the cult theme, most cults have some type of symbol or initiation you have to conform with. A lot of cults are known for having hair restrictions or some kind of tattoo. While I love the hairstyle you gave her, maybe a strip of hair dye that symbolizes the cult or some kind of tattoo peeking from her collarbone.
That’s only if you’re sticking to her original concept, but I love the idea that she’s goth!
I appreciate this comment so much, because Oka looks absolutely lovely here, but stripping away the "doesn't take care of herself" part of her character feels kinda off to me.
A tattoo could both work and not work, since tattoos from my knowledge can be associated with Yakuza, which tbh. could add some extra lore. Perhaps Oka has an older brother, who joined the Yakuza, left, and started a cult. An occult club wouldnt be weird in a japanese school setting as it could be like a yokai literature club, Supernatural kinda stuff, forgot the actual name of it lmao, but theres a lot you could play with. If she had a tattoo, i think itd be better to have it further away from her torso, like say her hand/wrist/foot, perhaps a small symbol easily hideable, not that shed want to hide the symbol, but more so she can get away with it easier. (as lots of places dont allow tattoos due to association with yakuza.) Hair styles could be a lot more useful id say with keeping yourself unrelated to sus shit, like an initiation could be chopping your hair off, (would fit her wolfcut, as well as character, perhaps her hair was previously tangled, matted, ect, and just cut it all off.) Tbh the messy uniform/oversied uniform would also fit an older brother thing. I believe i saw in another comment that she could have thick skin, not really bothered by bullying, could be that her brother could've toughened her up. Perhaps shes reserved by nature but because shes tall, and a little spooky, she could be intimidating. The bully girls would still target her, but she could definitely protect herself, just doesnt go out of her way to "fight back."

(I havent seen anything yandere sim related since... 4-6 years ago? I'm also one of those kids who grew up and went "WHYYY" but Oka was one of my favorites, along with kokona(?). And i think another character, it was definitely before I had a favorite type of character. Great to know that Yansim DIDNT influence my favorite anime character type. thank fucking god.)
I love Oka’s design so much dude, I feel like it’s less of Yandere devs weird kinks into the character (bc let’s be honest, goth girl kinks are a thing) and made it actually make sense
These designs are so good! I love the different energy you gave to Oka, she looks less like a generic nervous dandere and more of a true spooky gal who would actually lead a secret cult! Also, while I don’t agree with any of the reasons you made those changes (Twin Drills and Roses are ALWAYS IT AND ALWAYS WILL BE), Kizana still hits the mark perfectly!! Also, you’re right, Self Insert Harem Protags are losers.

I think disguising the occult club as another club is an awesome idea! Personally I believe it would be amazing as a “Gothic Literature” club so there’s still that mystery and spooky aspect that the occult club has. I think YanDev (ew) was more aiming for how Japanese schools in anime often have a ghost hunting club or the like.
Other people in the coments have already explained this but ocult in Japan doesn't have the same negative conotations it has in the west.
on second thought, while it is still morally correct to vandalize Yandere Simulator, it's hard to call it vandalizing it when you just knock out some banger redesigns!
I think the girls would fall for this version of Taro really easily because while his personality is a little basic, he’s also good looking and has a soft/kind aura. While a lot of girls (I asked my friend’s about this) would prefer someone fun who can make them laugh, they like can also like guys who are generally responsible and can treat them with at least the bare minimum of respect and courtesy (Which I feel he’s always been, but it comes across a lot more easily in your design!)
Awesome video, awesome art! Would love to see how you design the delinquent and student council president, as their designs always felt stupid to me. Especially the delinquent, as i feel like someone who gets into fights would be more muscular/menacing than what she ended up looking like. (Also I forgot their names lmao)

The secret occult club for Oka is such a neat take and would fit nicely into the game as well! Like, Ayano could find out that theyre practicing witchcraft in secret and could use it to blackmail Oka into not going after senpai, or could befriend her and help her keep it a secret.

something else about making taro more ‘interesting’ is that, from my memory, and correct me if i’m wrong, i’m pretty sure in one of the wayy earlier versions of the game, taro was in the gardening club. that could have been such a cute aspect of his character that gave him even a SMIDGE of personality, but it got thrown in the shredder. even if it didn’t happen, it’s still a cute concept, too.. i hope someone chases it with another redesign of him

But fr 10:00 looks a lot like what I pictured! And if you had given her brown or hazel eyes she would look pretty damn close to me irl which is a major shock to me. Your Oka redesign is probably one of the best YanSim redesigns I've seen so far! She's sooo gorgeous, and yes, the occult club hiding itself under a different kind of club is definitely more interesting. Hope you do more, your art is out of this world!

7:45 I with my friend made a demonology lesson for older classes in our school ones, so i think it is probably possible in some circumstances lol. Also I now realise that the concept of a religous club which is secretly an ocult club is actually pretty funny.

Oka's redesign is so perfect!! Defo also my favorite out of your redesigns! She would absolutely have hair like that, thats how I always imagined her. Really glad you put the fishnet gloves too. And gave her a long skirt, she definitely wouldnt roll it up.
Also am I the only one who headcanons Senpai as having some dark stuff going on at home? Like he has abusive parents? It would give a reason as to why hes so withdrawn and always escaping into books, is late every morning according to Osana, doesnt have a bento lunch, and why his little sister is so attached to him. I also like the idea of Ayano being a sort of twisted protector. Maybe she finds out and kills his parents at some point, or uses it to justify kidnapping/"saving" him.

the only thing that makes an outfit goth is the person wearing it :) goth is a music based subculture, so if a person listens to goth music, it makes them a goth! i believe oka's specific subculture would be whimsigoth, which has more influence from cottagecore and the general fae and forest aesthetic. you did great and her design is beautiful, i love when us goths are represented in things :) - your local vampire goth

If you really want a female love interest type of character in personality (especially with all the rivals) just make them Hua Cheng. Though his character isn't really explored much below 'i would do anything for you dianxia let me be your husb- i mean what' in the fandom, he has a lot more depth and a special connection with his love interest. I find it pretty cool- (not to mention the AMOUNT of people simping for him) BUT Your Taro is honestly perfect :D I love his design and his contrast with Ayano. Chefs kiss

She 110% is a goth/new wave purist girlie. It would also be interesting if Taro and her bonded over older gothic music. Like give them some kind of actual human bonding other than the shotty connection he has with literally all of the rivals.
Was so excited for a second part, i just love how u add little details to the redesigns that are actually showing what the characters are supposed to give when it comes to their vibe and personality, in my oppinion
As someone who loves dark cottagecore, Oka is so cute and I’d definitely end up simping if that was her design. The thing that people liked about her was that it actually had some differences to the other characters. The biggest problem was that they didn’t go far enough. Sure, they have to have school uniforms, but that doesn’t mean she should be boring!!!

I love how you "vandalized" these! They give so my personlity, something that the og desings lacked imo. Tall goth gf Oka would have been my girlfriend goals back when I was in school lol. Love her make-up too. The goth-y forest vibes suit her really well, and I think your sketch outfit for her lines up with the more vampire side of goth? But also don't quote me too much, there's such a wide spectrum of aesthetics in goth fashion alone that is quite hard to pin down XD
ALSO, you know how weird (in a good way!) was to see an actual Adam's apple?? Idk but I barely find them in art, so this was a pleasant surprise. And the moles! So good.

1:21 Oh Alex definetly wanted to make a game for incels like him, he puts so much effort into making up creepy stuff for the rivals and every random female student but wouldn't implement options to interact with senpai (even though that's the whole point of being a yandere💀💀) because he felt it was "too gay".

i love your redesigns! especially oka and how you designed her outside of school outfit, you did amazing with the gothic fashion. I've seen a few other interpretations and redesigns that went for goth but never really was gothic (no hate to those ppls thos theyre still great!) yours by far my fav redesign of her ive ever seen!

That's super unrealistic (yes I know its a FICITONAL game and all) but still it's kinda the most basic storyline ever and the fact yandev has had years to make the storyline actually good and was making people dono to him for over 5+ years and still never finished it (And probably isn't ever gonna be finished due to the recent drama with him) But yeah I'd love to see you make another part of this! it's interesting how oka gives tall girl vibes to you, as I have associated her with rikka takanashi from 8th grade syndrome anime, and so I have always thought of her as one of the short rivals

So I recall that the reason all the club members look related is because Yandev apparently thought it would be too frustrating for players to have to use their phone to verify a student's club every single time they wanted to check since killing club members shut down their club so its important to know what their club is. Gameplay wise makes sense ig, dunno why they had to look like siblings tho you think just giving them the accessory that Ayano gets would be enough

I love your redesigns! i think the style you're describing for Oka outside of school is like a mix between hippie goth and the popularly called "whimsigoth"! while the first probably speaks for itself, the latter is a relativly new term. i don't know if it's actually a goth substyle, but to my knowledge it mixes trad/90's goth with boho styles. Usually these outfits lean more heavily into the "boho" part but i love your emphasis on the goth part. As for the cottage core, "dark cottagecore" also comes to mind when i see her outfit with the subtle green undertones, so i think you did great! looking forward to the next one :)

I remember YanDev saying that the reason why all members of a club look alike is due to:
1) In a technical level, so the players can identify to which club everyone belongs to by just looking at them. This is to avoid the players killing all the members of the same club by accident and causing the permanent closing of the club.
2) At story level, there's some sort of "hierarchy" in the clubs: president, vice-president (or leader's right-hand) and subordinates. The subordinantes manifest their "loyalty" to the club by copying the leader's style. That also explains why when you join a club you are forced to wear an accessory.
When I saw Oka in your thumbnail, I thought she looked a bit too creepy, but before I even clicked on it I got into how cute she is 🥰. "Creepy at first glance, then adorable at the second" is really fitting for a melancholic-goth love-rival. I think I still prefer the kjech design, since I saw more "doesn't tidy herself up much" than "goth girl", which is basically me; outside of my own bias and desire to kin though, I think your design rivals kjech's amazingly. Also, it may just be what I've been watching recently + Kizana's musical talk, but she reminds me of Lydia Deetz's musical design + Jane Doe from Ride the Cyclone and her creepy doll aesthetic.
Also, if you want a suggestion for a subject that the Occult Club can use as a disguise, Anthropology- the study of human civilizations -works.
Taro's model/default look being more female gaze oriented makes so much more sense than just male gaze. You did a good job giving both him and Ayano more visual personality while maintaining an average appearance for them. He reminds me a lot of the basic Webtoon main male lead, but again there's something about your design that sets him apart. I think it's the moles, which are 💖💖💖; I could see them acting like a difficulty setting, like the more kisses he got in his past lives the more irresistible he is to girls lol.
Iirc, the Drama Club was one of the first couple of clubs to be added in, when he was using hair color as a visual tell for allegiance (see the Occult Club's indigo-black & the Martial Arts Club's brown/orange). I do distinctly remember him saying they were also supposed to all have hair drills, with the number showing the inner-hierarchy (See the other drama girl's (Tokuka's) 4 drills). They also share the roses, which makes 3 shared traits between 6 characters who are already in a school uniform. If you're planning on doing some redesigns on entire clubs, I think The Drama Club would be the one I'd want to see the most, since you're goal of diversifying the character designs goes against the "canon" shared design.
Talking about the Kizana design in itself; I love it. Red and purple are top tier color combo, and her blue eyes + yellow accessories do well to retain purple being THE color, even though red makes up most of the design. The roundness & sharpness/circles & triangles do a good job in portraying her bitchy attitude, as well as the reasoning behind her short skirt and "uniform". Even though you didn't remember the drill-hierarchy, the curl left to her face does a good job at giving her 2 drills without making her look exaggerated. With all that being said, I think the right croissant drill makes her too similar to the temp-leader (Tsuzuro). Again, I'd love to see your reimagining of the Drama Club as a whole, if the drill-hierarchy idea is reasonably feasible, if Kokona can still pull off the Teto drills, if Riku can look like a Jonah Scott character, etc. etc.
On one hand, I had "Bello impossibile" playing in my head as you were doing the first drawing.
On the other hand, "I can't draw good looking guys intentionally" had such Ace vibes 💜
