「 Soulless 」 can i ask you what you mean by “some occasions”? Not trying to argue or anything, just genuinely interested if you have any specific examples or if you just believe that someone is born evil (:
monique lisby for example if you hate someone in your class. That person might act annoying and you’ll hate them, no one is teaching you to hate that person I hope that made sense xd
「 Soulless 」 it did make sense, thank you for taking the time to explain :). But in that case, do you actually “hate” the person or do you just (strongly) dislike them? If someone made fun of you everyday in front of your classmates and made you feel all kinds of wrong, then o think it would be possible to actually hate the person. But if it’s just someone from your class who didn’t let you borrow his pen, or someone who always talks over the teacher or someone who is always disrupting the class bc he’s late, I don’t think that’s called hate. But in general I think the saying just means that no one is born hating, you’re either taught or you learn it through own experiences throughout life
We have a friend who just got out of prison and when he talks about it I honestly want to cry. He was in the same position. it breaks you down and messes you up.
Not everyone who is traumatized gets PTSD, trauma itself is horrible to go through, PTSD is failure to recover from trauma. We can't say whether or not a person has PTSD by looking at them, you need to run formal diagnosis and tests. 😊🤗 I'm saying this so that we don't use words like that without actually knowing if a person has the disorder There are chances, but we don't know.
Soundarya ptsd post traumatic stress disorder is when an individual has had a tramautic event happen in their life some of the symptoms(i know its not called symptoms but i dont know the english Word for it) include shaking, flashbacks etc so even though you cant with full certainty say a person has ptsd without actually doing a psychology thingy (once again I don’t know the English word for it) you can pretty much tell by looking at behaviour and other things.
@@boelsboel2208 yeah, it occurs when a person fails to recover from the trauma. As a psychologist under training, I'd suggest that people don't make assumptions on mental health unless provided with a diagnosis. Psychologists are not sure why some individuals get PTSD, while others don't. It's a mental illness that occurs when a person fails to recover or manage their trauma. What you're describing CAN BE be the symptoms of trauma than PTSD. I've listed SYMPTOMS OF TRAUMA here: Emotional & psychological symptoms: Shock, denial, or disbelief Confusion, difficulty concentrating Anger, irritability, mood swings Anxiety and fear Guilt, shame, self-blame Withdrawing from others Feeling sad or hopeless Feeling disconnected or numb Physical symptoms: Insomnia or nightmares Fatigue Being startled easily Difficulty concentrating Racing heartbeat Edginess and agitation Aches and pains Muscle tension. (I copy pasted this.) PTSD isn't something you could self diagnose, you must go through formal testing, we say this because what you're going through could be trauma or another disorder. The whole point is to not assume others mental illnesses. It's classified as trauma and stressor related disorder. (I can give more details from DSM 5if you're interested in it ,or I can give the code for you to refer if you have a DSM or someone you know has one😊) Edit: you can study about the disorder on the internet or books, so that when you're family member or a friend seems to show sign, you should ultimately bring them to a professional, you're not supposed to assume because you're not0 qualified enough or trained for it. Only mental health care professional can say if a person has a disorder, BUT even we cannot and shouldn't determine/confirm and continue with the therapy or prescribe medications (that's a psychiatrist's job, however, a psychologist can prescribe antidepressants) unless we've ran tests.

This is why I believe prisons shouldn't be here to "punish", but to reform. Unless you're a person that needs to be kept away from society, people walking out from there shoud have opportunity to make a honest life for themselves, not fall back to crime. I'm happy this guy has found a way out, and I wish him good luck
It must be terrifying for Romey to put his face out there like this. The knowledge that he might be seen or recognized as a "traitor" no matter where he goes now. Seriously brave. Mad props.
He must've been terrified. But, I think he's more focused on letting his story be known with the hopes that it'll stop someone else from making the same mistakes he himself had once made. Romey, if you're reading these comments, I want to thank you for sharing such a frightening story and I applaud you for the intense changes you have made in your life. Yo, ditching the AB *while still in prison* is one of the absolute most gutsy things imaginable. I honestly don't know how he survived, but props to him on sticking to it. Unbelievable.
In Hinduism Swastika symbolises the sun, prosperity and good luck. The Nazis took Sauvastika ( reverse swastika ). It's so sad that a cherished symbol of our faith got stolen and was used to spread hate. I am sorry for all who suffered at those hands.
In India you'll find that every Hindu ritual starts with the symbol being painted on vases. Most Hindus don't even know what people in the west associate that symbol with.
let me get this straight, He was jumped by crips and bloods when he got into prison, got accepted into the skinheads and when he wanted out, the skinheads they beat him up and the bloods beat them up thinking it was wrong.... That's amazing to say the least
Xx_MYSTiCWOLF_xX let’s take it down a notch and not assume everyone believes that discriminating against a white person is ok. The reason why it isn’t deemed as high as if a white person was racist towards a Black person is because racism has A LOT to do with power, before you say no it isn’t, do some damn research, white people will always have a higher power than any person that isn’t white. This country was built off of genocides and hatred towards anyone that wasn’t white or a women, and in today’s world, that can be proven valid as well. Now I’m not justifying discrimination against whites is ok because it is not, two wrongs do not make a right.
Xx_MYSTiCWOLF_xX i tell you to do some research and u still don’t, you tell me I’m “grossly incorrect” with no reasoning. Gosh people like you are very non understanding it’s ridiculous!
Mymyxx yet again you are grossly incorrect in your reply in a few ways one you have shown me you make assumptions more often than you think critically by telling me to do research as if I wouldn't have done it before making my previous statement even so it's a comment section you have no idea what I have or haven't done before replying to you two you assume I think "everyone" is ok with racism against white people I never stated that not really even by proxy have I stated that however what you have done is validate my point with your first response by basically agreeing but more so I'm curious what is your point really that because white people are perceived to have more power people tend to be racist towards them and think it's ok bottom line is racism is racism Edit: one more thing "White people will always have more power" ok by what logic ?
You can hear the regret and sadness in his voice. So glad he's turned it around and taken the brave step to trying to erase the symbols and the hate from he's life.

I worked with two different guys with similar stories (decent guy, interesting, and had changed since leaving prison) that was a part of the/a section of the White Knights. I always thought we would butt heads considering Im Mexican but like I stated before he had since left that life behind him and both men explained to me that they had mainly joined the “gang” in order to save themselves and despite have said and done terrible things that it wasn’t necessarily hate for another race or ethnicity but rather a way of survival against rivals. The first man was respectful and was a hard worker haven’t talked to him in years. The second man had became very involved in his church and his illegitimate daughter. Unfortunately the second gentlemen was approached during work and given a life sentence on conspiracy charges and it was one of the saddest things I’ve witnessed to date considering he had turned his life around completely.
people who go to prison that get scared or don’t know the set ups can get suckered into groups like that by the promise of “protection against others” or whatever, not realizing it can be a set up for something much worse like checks, missions (which you never really wanna do), or proving your “loyalty” to the group
Little_Lion_Heart to be fair everyone is extreme nowadays. Your either extreme left or extreme right wing. Immigration in Europe was extreme in its self and of course people where going to have different opinions about it which lead to extreme racism or extreme liberalism. Brexit is another great example; people have gone crazy with this. In America you can find extreme Christians in Texas which shit guns I think sorry if not I’m not American. You’d vote trump or Clinton both the opposite. So modern time is extreme. When you vote in an election you are automatically a extremist. Do you agree.
The irony of the bloods in prison stepping up and protecting him from his supposed former brothers. Beautiful. I bet it made those skinheads even more confused.

Comment Written In all the documentaries I've seen, before anyone can officially join a gang, the members of the gang would beat up the "initiate" to an inch of their life to test their commitment, and as a warning not to betray the gang. If anyone wanted out of the gang, they would have to go through the same thing otherwise likely be killed. It wouldn't surprise me though if many would die from the the beat down to get out of the gang. The beat downs would alway draw blood, hence the saying, " blood in, blood out." I hope this was helpful.
Michelle Jackson Espinosa agreed as black guy I would love to shake this guys hand And tell him I respect his decision , we need more ppl who think like this ,
@Ben G He was in prison. In prison joining skinheads as the white inmate is about survival. The trauma they go through fighting and shit brings them closer together even though the trauma is caused by their hate. It's a cult-like mentality and really fucking horrible to be in. This guy had the courage to get out when he was still in prison and when it was most deadly for him to leave.
The emotion and passion in his voice when he talks about them trying to take his life on multiple occasions, scraping his tattoos etc. Bravo Vice this is what we love just simple raw uncut fragments of peoples lives/journeys.
And contrast that with the ego of all the super privileged commenters here who think if they went to jail, they would magically fix all the racial tension.
Digby Jones LMAOO who told you that? Most people in prison are white (58% white) so where tf did you reach the conclusion that people in prison are mostly black and Latino? You’ve been watching too many movies man. Also not everyone in prison is as racist as you claim so don’t stereotype them, obviously there are some dumb racist people but they don’t all “pick on” white people. And prison gangs were actually created for protection against rival gangs not for “lone white wolfs” so no you don’t have to make pacts with white supremacy gangs because it’s a choice man.

As a person who comes from a jewish family that has suffered extreme losses because of the nazis, theres few things that make me as happy as seeing this. It's extremely hard to admit that you're wrong and also to deal with the shame that you feel because of it. I'm so proud of everyone that's succeeded in leaving their hateful lifestyle behind to become an educated person.
it just proves that you can force people to believe in anything if you just apply enough pressure. he was scared into racism and violence and it didn't even aligned with his values. I'm so proud he turned around and saved himself, so happy for him and thankful for Erase the Hate, it's very important to share the stories and inspire change, open doors with love and acceptance. it's easier to leave the past behind when people forgive you and support your transformation instead of exiling you for your mistakes.
People who are uneducated are very easy to manipulate, sadly. Along with people who have gone through trauma in life. Shame on those people who take advantage of others who are less fortunate in life.

All he recognized was the stupid costs he had to deal with. Not exactly something to be proud of, I wanna see this man giving back to the community, that means alot more than just getting ur tattoos redone. Until' then, all I see is just him doing this for himself to get out of a struggle.
this video hit hard for me because my uncle was a punk in the 80s, hes a paranoid schizophrenic and was being manipulated by a group of skinheads to do their dirty work (start fights, distribute drugs, etc). i remember he had knuckle tattoos that read out "NAZI" and a swastika on his chest. when he realized the situation he was in and left them behind he couldn't find a job for years because of them. and when he finally got them covered finding work was still difficult because of the heavy blackwork on his hands. never get hateful or political tattoos, you will never know how much of a changed person you will be with life experience by your side.

Insanity Prison was made to rehabilitate those who are violent but now prison is just a sick form of revenge, quite literally locking someone in a cage with hardly enough room to walk.
From 15:37 to 16:30 are very wise words, and the most important takeaway here. You can't just get tattoos removed and no longer be racist. You have to fundamentally change your views and who you are to become the good person you were meant to be. You have to educate yourself constantly, and that education is life long. I'm very glad he included that.
As a person of color I have to say he does deserve our respect thru history we watched whites not give us the time of day and they could never see a person of color learn and change into a smart intellect as well as never see us as an equal. How would we fight for equality and change when people like this take the time out of their life to be a different person and realize what they did was wrong. We are no better than our racist counter parts if we can’t accept them when they do what we want.
Crazy how the world turned around for him in there. The Bloods and Crips beat him and basically helped him join the Aryan group . But, the Bloods took up for him and beat the Aryans up for him to basically save his life. I'm glad that he has changed because his short sentence could've turned to Life without parole or Death Penalty.
I honestly feel like he wasn’t jumped by any crips and bloods in jail. It seems to be a similar story with every racist who goes and joins the aryan brotherhood while they’re in jail. proof that hate is taught and does not come from within
This is true in some occasions
@@akagrimreaper6702 most occasions, actually.
「 Soulless 」 can i ask you what you mean by “some occasions”? Not trying to argue or anything, just genuinely interested if you have any specific examples or if you just believe that someone is born evil (:
monique lisby for example if you hate someone in your class. That person might act annoying and you’ll hate them, no one is teaching you to hate that person
I hope that made sense xd

Now that.... That is saddening
😊🤗 I'm saying this so that we don't use words like that without actually knowing if a person has the disorder
There are chances, but we don't know.
I've listed SYMPTOMS OF TRAUMA here:
Emotional & psychological symptoms:
Shock, denial, or disbelief
Confusion, difficulty concentrating
Anger, irritability, mood swings
Anxiety and fear
Guilt, shame, self-blame
Withdrawing from others
Feeling sad or hopeless
Feeling disconnected or numb
Physical symptoms:
Insomnia or nightmares
Fatigue
Being startled easily
Difficulty concentrating
Racing heartbeat
Edginess and agitation
Aches and pains
Muscle tension. (I copy pasted this.)
PTSD isn't something you could self diagnose, you must go through formal testing, we say this because what you're going through could be trauma or another disorder. The whole point is to not assume others mental illnesses.
It's classified as trauma and stressor related disorder. (I can give more details from DSM 5if you're interested in it ,or I can give the code for you to refer if you have a DSM or someone you know has one😊)
Edit: you can study about the disorder on the internet or books, so that when you're family member or a friend seems to show sign, you should ultimately bring them to a professional, you're not supposed to assume because you're not0 qualified enough or trained for it.
Only mental health care professional can say if a person has a disorder, BUT even we cannot and shouldn't determine/confirm and continue with the therapy or prescribe medications (that's a psychiatrist's job, however, a psychologist can prescribe antidepressants) unless we've ran tests.
This is why I don’t believe the saying “people never change”
Yeah that's not true lol

"White people will always have more power" ok by what logic ?

I always wondered how people even end up in extremist groups. This was an interesting look into how it happens and why it can be so hard to leave.
I find insecure men w no safety net tend to be the most vulnerable to it
people who go to prison that get scared or don’t know the set ups can get suckered into groups like that by the promise of “protection against others” or whatever, not realizing it can be a set up for something much worse like checks, missions (which you never really wanna do), or proving your “loyalty” to the group
Peer pressure is a mo fo. Weak minded folk
Little_Lion_Heart to be fair everyone is extreme nowadays. Your either extreme left or extreme right wing. I highly doubt that part of the story, they probably just saw it as a good time to get down for a completely unrelated reason... even the bloods want to erase whitey like the feds.

As a Jew, I wish him the absolute best. I can't believe he was almost killed several times in prison and still stuck to his morals. When he said the Bloods even stood up for him... I mean, this guy is the example for all current Neo-Nazis and KKK members that reform is possible.
It's truly admirable that you are able to say this. For many people, myself included, it is incredibly difficult to look past someone's hateful past and see them for who they are now. I wish you the absolute best in life. 💛
"Are you opposed to.....skulls?"
Is that the tattoo shop version of "did you turn it off and back on again?"
I feel like skulls were a bad decision considering that im pretty sure that was used in SS uniforms
To be fair, it was not an easy piece to cover up. Skulls and animals are often used in coverups as they are very versatile. The contrast of blackwork or bold colours can help the old tattoo almost completely disappear.
that is fucking funny
@@iluvatar1146 They also used a Buddist symbol meaning eternity, but yes....focus on the skulls...

My heart goes out to this man. The brokeness in his eyes. He looks so much older, than he probably is. I pray he will find some closure and peace at the end of his journey. I hope he realizes how important he is and how loved! He survived so much!
I don’t get why people are even allowed to get such tattoos. Congrats for him for recognizing his mistake though!
I think it’s from tattoo artists that are also neo nazis
@@acoustic_. yep
Or they’re prison stick and poke tattoos, my first tattoos were just from a sewing needle and India ink pen
All he recognized was the stupid costs he had to deal with. Not exactly something to be proud of, I wanna see this man giving back to the community, that means alot more than just getting ur tattoos redone. Until' then, all I see is just him doing this for himself to get out of a struggle.
They arent allowed just that some people dont have morals and give people these tattoos.
this video hit hard for me because my uncle was a punk in the 80s, hes a paranoid schizophrenic and was being manipulated by a group of skinheads to do their dirty work (start fights, distribute drugs, etc). i remember he had knuckle tattoos that read out "NAZI" and a swastika on his chest. when he realized the situation he was in and left them behind he couldn't find a job for years because of them. and when he finally got them covered finding work was still difficult because of the heavy blackwork on his hands. never get hateful or political tattoos, you will never know how much of a changed person you will be with life experience by your side.

I'm surprised he's still alive. Just shows how determined he was, and is, to change. Seeing people who were once so adamant and deep in hate change their opinion to one of love is inspiring.
Owning up to your past hateful ideas and trying to change is really admirable
Seen this young skin head wannabe the other day in my local shop, probably the only one locally. A Pacific Islander walked up to him and said nice vest. I laughed out loud because the kid froze and everyone expected the kid to cop a high five to the face, kid didn't receive one. Prison was made to rehabilitate those who are violent but now prison is just a sick form of revenge, quite literally locking someone in a cage with hardly enough room to walk.
@@saturn1907 Becuse of the private prison system. Prisons won't more prisoners.
YOU ARE AN EXAMPLE OF ONE OF THE BEST QUALITYS OF HUMAN BEING: BECOME ANOTHER ONE, SOMEONE BETTER THAN BEFORE. MY RESPECT BRAVE MAN.

JSSRocket yes he does, he has left his past behind him. I’m African American and I respect him so much. U can tell he regrets what he did in the past
That’s so Brooklyn idk that’s your choice. I personally hate people in general. I don’t forgive people so he isn’t an exception

This is the Vice that we love, thank you for this story.
He's lying.
Gotta be more to the story he not tellin
@@nickfittipaldi5741 Totally agree. I'm sure he had to pay the Bloods back somehow.
I honestly feel like he wasn’t jumped by any crips and bloods in jail. It seems to be a similar story with every racist who goes and joins the aryan brotherhood while they’re in jail. I feel like he was searching for acceptance and decided to join the brotherhood but lost everything to realize it was a bad decision.
@@Lostinmyhead23 I agree man. My statement was general but in all honesty, he knows what he was getting into either way. Usually the Aryans would've killed him if he was in any of the prisons in California especially
I love that the artists don’t judge him for what he had on his skin. He dove right in to help him feel free in his own skin. So proud of everyone involved in this video for their bravery. The amount of courage to start a new life free of hate... it’s incredible
At the end of the day, your last action is what matters. His last action is admitting he was wrong and trying to get rid of the imagery. I would 100% judge someone for having a hateful tattoo and being proud of it, but I have SO much respect for people who admit their wrongs and try to change.
this is why prisons need to be comfortable places of healing and self-improvement, not horrible places that cause more pain and suffering

That's understandable. They aren't the victims in this story. They were the ones hurting others. But I am glad that campaigns like this exist. Even if we can't abolish hate, getting people to see that the way they think is hurtful is better than nothing.
No need to feel sorry, but to see that humanity will prosper is good. They aren't victims but rather they are examples of what we need to do to change.
