I am 71 and I still have the white coat syndrome. Whenever I go to the doctors office and my blood pressure is taken, it is always high. I try to be calm and remain quiet, but the technicians keep asking me questions and that annoys me because I’ve heard that talking can also increase your systolic.

Interesting - I had always thought it was the diastolic number I needed to worry about and that the systolic is the number that changes according to what you're doing - eg taking exercise will raise it, getting stressed will raise it etc etc.

@@Rose-p7y4ithe kind of anxiety (or stress) I’m talking about is insidious and raises your cortisol levels. However, when we’re younger, our blood vessels are flexible enough to withstand the rush of blood that comes with a high cortisol level that’s frequent and/or chronic. But the older you are (or if you’re a diabetic), the more brittle and vulnerable your blood vessels can get to be. That’s a dangerous combination. Do what you can to reduce chronic stress bc blood pressure is a silent killer.

5+ years ago I visited the clinic with flu-like symptoms and was diagnosed with high blood pressure. I mentioned to the doctor I have flu and that I had been walking for 15 minutes and thought that might be the reason for the high reading, but he disagreed. As a result, I started taking blood pressure medication. However, this led to an unusually high pulse reading. When I discussed this with the doctor, he stated that the medication shouldn't cause this issue. I'm 36 years old now, and my typical blood pressure reading is around 119/50 with a pulse of 190. I'm unsure of what to do next.

The "bottom" number is more important, that is the pressure the blood exerts on the arteries when the heart is at rest must be right around 80 or lower top can be like 140 or little higher that is not high HBP that means the heart beat is strong causing the blood to create pressure against the inside of the arterial walls .

Supplement more potassium into your foods, cut down on sugar.
Eat more vegetables, fruits and less rice, breads. Meats are fine, so is chicken, fish.
Stay away from fast food, drink more water, learn breathing techniques.
I recommend to also look into teas, chamomile is excellent, so is hibiscus.

@@daughterofzion14It's better to ask a pharmacist or a nurse.
The pharmacist can explain medication to you much better. The doctors keep people on the wrong medication for years. Especially if they are poor or low income .
