  • A quick edge mod to the cheap chinese axe to see if it can be improved.
This mod works for most types of axes and is especially well on cheap DIY store hatchets.
I didn't spend too long on it but the more material you remove and the more acute you make the bevel the better it will be for carving work.

Using a double cut file as you did makes a horrible mess out of any axe and creates a ton more work later trying to fix the roughness. As for not using water on a stone, the water helps keep the stone clean and makes them last a lot longer as well as working much faster than a dry stone.

Unfortunately this company has almost NO quality control. We sell these at my place of employment, recently I have seen a few of their products that seemed like decently made items fail miserably. The steel is very bad, the blade was so soft I had no trouble filing it and when I attempted to fix a slight bend in a blade it snapped. The other blades had cracks in the steel that should’ve caught by any decent quality control, yet weren’t. The plastic in the handle also broke after ONE swing. This was sold as a tactical tomahawk, so that’s not good. This stuff is garbage, avoid it.
