  • A few thoughts on how long should it take to carve something.
Now this is a very emotive subject and the short answer, in my view, is as long as it takes.
I get asked this question a lot and it comes down to several factors from the wood and tools you are using to your skill level, amount of free time etc...
My biggest tip is don't rush, take your time and enjoy the carving. The worst experiences i have had whilst carving are when i have been on a schedule to complete something which is the quickest way i know to take all of the fun and enjoyment out of it.

If you're just carving for yourself it's nice to take the time. But when you're selling it's really nice to get faster.

Do you also find you have multiple projects on go so it seems none are progressing at all

N Jones I used to get this a lot, always wanting to try 10 things at once, but now I try to focus on one piece at a time unless I’m waiting for something green to dry. The only time that changes is when I’ve left it far to late, usually just before Christmas, and have to carve a load of stocking fillers for people.
