I feel shamed of my own country when I see how far this little country is thinking in to the future for the generations to come. How creative they are in forming new opportunities and whatsoever that the people would look for. And the discipline within the nation is beyond expectancy even though there are some bitter incidents in time to time. But, overall, the whole country is very positive thinking and well mannered. Those people back in Sri Lanka have lot more to learn from this small country. I am really proud how Singapore thinks for their own people and their future.
As a Singaporean, I don't think Sri Lankans have anything to be ashamed about. We were fortunate to grow up in a country that gave us opportunities. We were lucky that the smartest people in the land were inspired to go into government in the post-colonial era -- the smartest people would not go into politics today. My grandparents were simple villagers who were lifted out of kampungs and poverty. They worked hard, even if it was the sort of labour most city people wouldn't consider important work. In short, every family who lived in Singapore during the last few decades got lucky. Sri Lankans have so many difficulties to contend with today, and it is by no fault of the ordinary people. Someone who hustles hard to provide for their family cannot be considered ill-disciplined in the first place.
I was in Singapore for 9 months working for the project in 2019/2020. Doing soil engineering works for the TBM to excavate through Jurong Formation rock mainly build from sedimentary rock that covers south-west portion of the Singapore island. Strengthening the soil or the foundation along the TBM route of excavation by grouting method such as rock fissure grouting by filling the void inside the rock with cement pumped with high pressure. Singapore is a nice place to work and stay....
The NewSand is extremely exciting. Not only that being burnt slag (waste from burning rubbish), it makes our structures stronger than ever! And eradicating the issue of shrinking landfill areas! Well done Singapore scientists! Proud of you guys!

They claim in the video that such tunnel project has "never been done before" ....and let me add ....that is only if you talk about Singapore.... Tunnel boring machines was not invented in Singapore nor was that kind of tunnel boring anything new ....this is something that has been done in Europe for decades and also where they have got the machinery and technology from.....

Not to say basic infrastructure is lacking in most part of their countries. But it’s true they have more potential than Singapore in terms of land development. And the countries you speak of, potential, will remain as potential until the crippling issues are resolved.
i worked on Phase 1 of this project from 2003 to 2005 driving 1 of the TBM's - it was very wet and difficult. The people and the food made up for all the hardship we faced at work.
Having visited Singapore 10 years ago for a few days, I have to say what a fantastic place it is. Street crime is almost non existent the place is beautiful and clean, the people are really friendly and kind. If I were a younger man I’d love to live there.
As an engineer I can appreciate new advanced methods and technologies as long as they are for good and not wars. In the land I live most roads and bridges are falling apart. The only thing advancing is the removal of our freedoms. I know the people of Singapore take great pride in their work.

Several discrepancies about TBM's. The TBM would move an elephant hahaha. A TBM would move a herd of elephants and several herds of cows + the farmers. The TBM costs a $1,000,000 hahaha. Maybe a very old and used TBM. A 6m mixshield TBM, as featured here, would cost at least $10,000,000 approximately. Depending on the size (diameter) and type of TBM they can cost much more. The 6m mixshield TBM featured in the video would advance at 3m an hour hahaha. This is not possible with this size and type of TBM. It leads you to believe that a 900m tunnel would be excavated in 300 hours or 12½ days. The truth is a 900m tunnel would take about 6 - 8 months depending on geology/breakdowns/dependability of supply of usables. I have work on tunnels in Singapore on 3 occasions.
Singapore engages in serious research before starting a large project. This country is always moving forward in technological innovations. Plan, research, testing, development.

In Louisiana, USA, a glass recycling project is grinding glass to create replacement for sand in concrete. No heat required. The glass has the same angular shape they are looking for.

Instead of waste water treatment facilities they dammed and flooded the Kaliwa Watershed and destroyed Dumagat Ancestral Domain and all Pinoys cheer. You will never catch up.

The only way for Sungapore to sustain going forward is up and down...I wonder when underground apartments and shopping centres/food halls will become a reality.
Those shafts are going to make great surge tanks for storm drainage as well. These infrastructure works are going to be key tasks to ensure Singapore can endure thru even more centuries. Like the New York City water tunnel, this is an equally impotant project, just on the other side of the coin......

Probability of that happening is close to ZERO. Biggest factor in Singapore's progress is its highly educated population who are also forward thinking.
It is very difficult for the Philippine reach this kind massive project due to corruption in the government. From the department who is known for its worst corrupt officials and local government officials hungry for money. Another are lack of advance technical engineering knowledge for our engineers.
I hope our next president will model MetroManila to singapore and invite their planners and engineers to work with and transfer experience to their would be Filipino counterparts. Singapore is a great development model.
How the country take care of its sewerage, landfill, recycle water speak volume. There is still a lot to do in the recycle, reuse, repurpose & upcycle industry: recycling clothing, 1 time use plastic, medical waste, used cooking oil, etc.
even Burj Khalifa was built not with their own sand, but by sand exported from China, the Singapore's discovery of soot as a new sand is an amazing tools for us to build skyscrapers that will reach the clouds

If Singapore's temperature can be lowered by 3 deg Celsius, it would be a dream place to live in. Way too hot in Singapore. Giant geosynchronous umbrellas in space to shield the sun ....that possible? The structure only needs to be a fabric. Hence it must be possible cos it is light weight and Elon can rocket them up for Singapore.

@@sktoh4469 actually once humidity is down it wont feel as uncomfortable. Dry heat is actually quite bearable. What you and I are asking for is unfortunately probably not possible. If it is, either lower the temp or lower the humidity, Singapore would become a paradise to live in.
A lot of clever people, hard workers, and well-made machinery. I would like to have seen how the spoil was disposed of from the cutting face to wherever they put it and all the steps taken in the process

For citizens your life savings CPF or your children's CPF money will be used for your treatment in hospital. Probability of that happening is close to ZERO. Biggest factor in Singapore's progress is its highly educated population who are also forward thinking.
It is very difficult for the Philippine reach this kind massive project due to corruption in the government. From the department who is known for its worst corrupt officials and local government officials hungry for money. Another are lack of advance technical engineering knowledge for our engineers.

How the country take care of its sewerage, landfill, recycle water speak volume. There is still a lot to do in the recycle, reuse, repurpose & upcycle industry: recycling clothing, 1 time use plastic, medical waste, used cooking oil, etc.

The structure only needs to be a fabric. Hence it must be possible cos it is light weight and Elon can rocket them up for Singapore.

@@sktoh4469 actually once humidity is down it wont feel as uncomfortable. Dry heat is actually quite bearable. What you and I are asking for is unfortunately probably not possible. If it is, either lower the temp or lower the humidity, Singapore would become a paradise to live in.

New sands is a very interesting option in as much as it’s much durable and does make for a sustainable waste disposal method that’s recycled.
The question is how to handle deconstruction and recycling of this new concrete. It could be a new source for microplastic leaking in the environment.
