- Introducing, my first ever plugin, The Howler. This is a guitar pedal plugin that is designed to go in front of a high-gain amp sim. I often found I was using multiple plugins in front of amp sims to shape the DI signal how I wanted it before hitting the amp. I decided to create a plugin that encompasses all of these common moves, like EQ/filtering, boost/overdrive, etc.. A suggestion for further revisions: This tone sounds amazing but it would be cool if you had 2 sliders that effected whether even order or odd order harmonics were excited and clipped..
I've heard some killer tones and this is pretty nice for a dry chug. Some of the most killer tones I've heard have come from blending different sounds by stacking when doubling or quad tracking. This seems like it would be a good coloring tone to add to one of the doubling or quad channels.
Well, a couple of hours later playing with it... I need to write my opinion.
It does a superb job controlling the low end. Incredible versatility with only 3 knobs, so you don’t get overwhelmed or lost tweaking. I’ve tried it with a couple of different amps and you can really always “get there” playing with it; so helpful for sculpting the sound to your needs. You can do magic with the input and mix knobs once you “practice” a little and understand how it works.
But I wanna stand out how easily, fast and, specially, how fine fine job does putting under control the low end. And if you need to go tight, well there’s no problem handling that task. Trust me, you can get a really good tight sound.
It can be gentle, aggressive or brutal, depending on how you set it or use it. So I wouldn't risk by saying that it's only for metal-heads. Cause like i said, it's pretty versatile.

Thanks for putting out this great pedal Jeremy! Some comments say they can't get it to load, I would be happy to test this out in Studio One V6, since it runs most any VST (as VST, VST2, VST3) to see how it responds to different sims (I have/love the Granophyre as well). I'll post the results with a Souncloud link.

Really tightens up the sound at 25%... I tend not to use so low tunings but the Howler surely does the job...Got to test it in standard tuning too!!!

Public interest: the current installer (1.1) on Windows installs the .vst3 file in the Program Files (x86)/common files/vst3 folder. For me, it installed the .vst3 file here even if I specified the Program Files/common files/vst3 folder, which is the access path for 64-bit vst3 plugins in the case of Cubase. (I couldn't find information about this being a 32-bit plugin.) Copy/move the .vst3 file to the 64-bit plugins folder.

Copien el archivo the Howler de la carpeta Common Files/VST3 de X86.. y peguenlo en la misma ruta pero ahora en la de 64Bits y con eso disfrutaran este brutal plugin!!!
IT REALLY NEEDS a 64 bit version like REAL BAD.
I use ableton so no luck with 86 .
I think other daws can load 86 into 64 but ableton and some others just cant and most daws are gonna be like this in 5 years or so
It is 64 bit. The installer is installing it into the 32 bit directory incorrectly. There’s an issue with the installer. Al heck the other comments.

Hey! You should be able to right click on the plugin itself and choose “Open”. It will launch a Terminal window, which you can just close, but doing this should add an exception to your Mac to allow it to run.

No. The plugin should load up in either mono or stereo depending on the type of track you place it on. If you’re not seeing that, let me know.
@@JeremyFoxMusic so, I'm feeding 2 hard panned left and right channels into a stereo channel. I have the plugin placed before Archetype Gojira in stereo mode, but it remains in mono for some reason. I'm using Fl Studio, so it could be something to do with the DAW itself. But worst case scenario, if there's no way around it, I can just use 2 instances of it on each panned guitar channel

Gotcha. Yeah, I’m not sure how FL Studio works but my recommendation would be to put The Howler on the individual tracks and not the bus. I never actually tested it on a bus but theoretically, it should work just fine. Anyways, it’s extremely light on CPU so you can run many instances without issues.

Can't found vst3 file in reaper windows 7 x64. Only this plugin from vst3 folder not found
I’ve never tested it on Windows 7 so I can’t say that it’s supported at this time. Here’s two things you might try though:
1. Most DAWs have a way of resting the cache for all scanned plugins. I would recommend resetting that cache and rescanning all plugins again. If this doesn’t work, try the next option.
2. Try moving the “TheHowler.vst3” from “Program Files\Common Files/VST3” into “Program Files (x86)\Common Files/VST3” and then restart you DAW and see if it picks it up then.
If neither of those work then I’m really not sure how to help without having access to a Win 7 machine.

Did I understand correctly that The Howler pedal can be used instead of a tube screamer or something like that ?
That is correct. It’s an overdrive pedal that you would use in place of any other overdrive/boost pedals you might already be using.
Just downloaded this and paired it with bogren amp knob I'm not sure if I like the amount of low end it cuts even at 25% mix or am I using it correctly? I used logic and the howler is above the amp knob on my channel strip if I put it the other way around its really tinny
Thanks for download info and checking it out. The AmpKnob plugin has a built in overdrive so it’s not really the best amp sim to use with an external boost/overdrive. The Howler was initially designed to be used with lower tunings. However, that’s why the mix knob was added, to allow a little more control so you can use less of the processed signal and use it with more standard tunings. I would definitely recommend trying it with an amp sim that doesn’t have a built in boost/overdrive. Hope that helps.

I freakin love this thing. But I tried to update it with the 1.1.0. Some reason I couldn't get it to install. But it's ok. I use reaper and in reaper every plugin window has a mix knob at the top right corner of the window.
Would that work the same way? Or no....
I believe you’re liking running into the same issue that’s been reported in other comments. It has to do with the install path. Check the other comments, there’s a response from a user who described how to fix it.

No. There is saturation/distortion added. I explain those details a few minutes into the video.
Says it has a virus in the files and won't download. Never had a plugin download do this before.
It’s an issue with Windows and it’s virus definitions or something. I had to contact them about the v1.0 release and they updated their definitions so it no longer showed the false positive. I guess I’ll have to do it for v1.1 as well. I can assure you though, it’s 100% safe.

Also a buddy of mine said it didn't give him the option to select a download destination folder and he couldn't see where it was trying to download. Just thought I'd share that as well.

My PC is *convinced* that there is a virus or malware inside of the .exe file. Anyone else?
There isn’t. It’s a false positive. I was in contact with Microsoft when I released v1.0 and they confirmed it’s a false positive. They updated their virus definitions to fix the false positive for the v1.0 installer. I haven’t contacted for v1.1 because I was hoping their updated definitions would work for future releases. I’ll reach out to them to have them update their virus definitions again. But rest assured, there are no viruses or malware. It’s 100% safe.

No worries! I’m not a Windows user but I know there’s a way to force Windows to allow it to run/open. Maybe there’s someone in here who’ll see this and can provide the specifics on how to do this. Sorry for the troubles!

On Windows 7 it doesn't work no matter what I try to do. I installed on a second small storage with windows 10 and it worked immediately after installing it in the standard folder Program Files \ Common Files / VST3, so windows 7 is already outdated for modern plugins. After defeating the russian terrorists, I will install windows 10 on the main storage and can use this plugin ! 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦
