One of the great things I appreciate about your channel Phil is your willingness to try many different cameras and lenses. You don’t belittle any particular brand. You like David just take photos. And you both are great at it.
I shoot all my product photos with macro lenses as they are …typically… way sharper than other lenses of the same focal length. You got a ton of great photos today!!! The first lady bug photo is awesome!!!
Thank you, JP! I wonder if they realized when the made that handrail that they were also making a macro photography studio for me and my friend Forrest who also shoots there from time to time. LOL
I use the R5 and the RF100-500 to do macro type photos. Sometimes I don’t know what my expectation should be, as to how much of the subject can or should be in focus. I’m trying to understand the best way to hold the lens, or work the focal plane. Maybe do a video on what you can do with that lens with butterflies and insects? I can’t really afford another lens just yet, but I get some fun macro with this. I just wish I understood the best way to use it, vs just getting some “happy accidents”!
The 100-500 does great on butterflies and larger small subjects like that. The most important thing is getting the eye sharp. I suggest using single point and placing that point directly on the eye of your subject. Then make a burst of shots and pick out the best one.
Thank you! It has only been out for a little while. I have another macro lens I tested. That video comes out on Friday the 30th, the same day the lens comes out.
Great shots Phil. You steered me right on the gimbal, thanks! Used it this past weekend, smooth as silk! Now I'm looking at filters - you have links to Kase and Maven - which one do you recommend for photography?
Thank you! You can't go wrong with either brand. They are both excellent. I like the "inlaid ring" that Kase offers. I like how the Maven filters are fully color-coded, not just black with a colored stripe. Another advantage for Maven is they offer a 15-stop filter that is nice for long exposure on a 100% sunny day without stacking filters.
@@PhilThach Hey Phil - it took me a couple weeks to decide but based on my research either system works well, with no color degradation. At the end of the day, I went with your Kase discount code 😁
Decent results, BUT that's a very worrying sign if they can't even make it focus on infinity! I wouldn't buy it for that alone, but Laowa and others make cheaper, better, smaller 2:1 MF lenses anyway.

Thank you, Hassan! I need to go on a photo walk with David sometime soon!
Nice review Phil. Some good sample shots. Cheap lens for macro if budget is tight
Thank you, Adrian!
Nice macro photographs Phil. Love the honest review

Thank you, David! I have another Macro lens test coming out in less than a week. I enjoy this 2X macro stuff but man is it hard!
Great review! Looks like a nice lens. I liked the last shot the best.
Thank you, Stephen! More macro coming Friday. Same location, same day, different lens.
Awesome review. You definitely nailed the eyes and I love the blue rail!❤

@@PhilThach I they did it just for you two!!💖
I enjoyed the video and the great shots. Say hi to Heather for me. 😎

Some great images! Seems like a nice lens.

Did this lens just come out? It looks to be worth it. Well done!

Thanks so much for sharing another wonderful video like always Phil 🤗👍
Thank you!
Wow!! Nice work Phil!! Great video as usual. This lens looks like a good challenge to the Canon RF 100 macro, which is what I use…
@@richwoodham3296 thank you! Maximum magnification is the strong suit of this lens.
