OSRS Account Security has become an important topic due to botters, account recoverors, and scammers. It's far from perfect, especially for RuneScape's richest GP players. Today I interview someone who hacked RuneScape's Richest player.

@Oliver if your too dumb to use the internet your going tk get clapped made no sense whatsoever, you can literally do everything correctly to secure your account and still get hacked, ive also never been hacked and played since classic, the dropping a gp stack in wild lure before the ditch got me once, but I was like 12 years old.

Btw: Papa John’s database DID get breached and leaked recently. Got a warning when I opened the app on my iPhone. Never got contacted by Papa John’s, literally ONLY had the warning through an Apple device.

info I found seems like this was very specific targets. after all papa john (the real guy) is still rich and steamed over the racial slur thing. could be revenge if only around 300 were said breached by physical intrusion. For a company that large (or small?) I could see it being senior leadership or a board of governors etc. I'm not concerned over this one.

This is exactly what I did with my main. I have only ever had it attached to an email I only use for OSRS and have only ever used the email on an old iphone of mine.
What is scary is that i had a security class and phishing can be done so easily in couple clicks, u can easily clone a website and insert a keylogger with tools that do it all for you

Its annoying, but these content creators get paid a hell of a lot for it, which supports them and lets them make the content you want to watch more regularly. At the end of the day, you can always just skip it, so you gotta respect people taking it

@tttriple Got more creative all on my own. Was not informed, recommended, or told to do so. The only template was about what specifically they wanted me to discuss. :) Just figured you'd all rather watch that instead of me rambling for a minute with gameplay in the background.

Back in the day there was a band in Japan called Yousei Teikoku (TL: Fairy Empire) and their vocalist Yui apparently played Runescape. She was rumored to be the richest Runescape player for a while at least. She did a bank video, not sure in which year though. She had several hundred rares.

My account wasn't special but I got account recovery hacked. I even remember getting an email but thought that one was a phishing attempt lmao. It wasn't till I tried to play again years later that I came back and saw that my account went from like 80, to high 90s in every stat. But when I recovered it that time I guess they assumed most of it was botted and they rerolled everything back to 70s. It had one of the usernames not emails to login my oldest account.

@@vinpiazzo801 You can sim swap and basically have that persons phone, so i assume if you downloaded the authenicator, itd work the same i assume.
@@user12do that isn’t how an authenticator app works. They are device specific, not sim specific.
In fact, if you factory reset your device and need to reinstall Google Authenticator, you will lose access to your codes. This is why I never recommend that trash app to anyone. They offer zero recourse if you lose access to the original state of the app.
Some of my friends back in the days were involved in the Defil3d recovery. In todays money that one beats it by a metric fuckton.

Best way to secure your account is by having a 2fa for your email and never link your email to another email. Also, a bank pin... with the bank pin, even if the hacker hacks into your account they dont have access to the bank even if they logged you out in the 5 minute pin interval. Another thing to add is changing passwords every month or so. Stay safe scapers!
And also make sure to bank everything on you before logging off!!

ah, I remember the Squeal of Fortune. I honestly can remember getting so many more lucky items with that system, than I can remember from the next iteration. Same goes for the current Treasure Hunter system. Now, I almost NEVER get anything purple, and when I do it is a lucy chaotic. Something I already own, and have since they were released more than a decade ago...... 4:34 Also, shoutout to old Chris Archie. I watched the Hell out his and NightmareRH's videos back in the day.

if you make a new account, make it with a fake email and then change it to a real email afterwards. then, your login name will be different from the email linked to your account
I remember when ppl gave free membership to steal accounts because all they needed was the purchase number or card number to recover the account smfh
Or around the time the account was made and the internet company that the account holder used to make the account 🙄
Pro tip, use Google's extra emails to sign up to specific services, for Example if playing osrs and your regular email is james@gmail you can use James+osrs@gmail and it still goes to your main email

Also if you get a password recovery email without requesting one don’t click on it

Up until recently if you hacked someone ( recovery ) and your email/fake email was set on the account, you could disable auth without any confirmation, that Kevin sounds like bs

my osrs bank and irl bank fluctuate, osrs is more for a couple weeks after ive paid bills

I dont like admitting this but i use to sell my accounts i phished, i would let people play them for 3 to 4 months, claim i was in school and did not know people were using my account. Provided i gave them details like original ip (this can be grabbed by looking at the users last logged in IP when the account is initially hacked, 90 percent of the time this IP was the created acc IP) you didnt even have to be using that IP. sell an account for 150, take it back 4 months later with a full bank, sell, rinse and repeat! 2 name changes later and acc is unidentifiable.

I got hacked in July of 2012(made a shitty video about it) and lost my precious Yellow Partyhat, which I only had for a few month since I bought it for ~800M. After several failed attempts of persuading Jagex to give me back the hat, I simply just quit the game... Until that one thing that happened in early 2013, I forgot what it was.

Pretty sure the biggest hack I’ve seen was BlobRs he lost like 200B rs3 a few years ago
I use a Authenticator on my Instagram account. Keep my account super safe but then tragty struck. I was robbed at gun point and the Authenticator was link to my phone number. Try getting back that previous phone number with the service provider and failed. That happen in August. Months ago still can't get back my ig account. All my important messages that i didn't screenshot are lost forever. Personally. I fear the same thing would happen to my rs account so instead I set up my rs account in such a way that its username, password, bank pin and recovery questions are all anonymous. My username in game is not my sign in username and I will never change it back to that.

Last I checked (Confirmed by RS3's wealth Evaluator) he had about 9 trillion GP (This is RS3). and considering the insane prices of rares, his bank value probably atleast increased 50% overtime by just owning and holding on to rares

Social engineering trickery continues to show its potency....and the bad practice of recycling passwords.
What does social engineering have to do with this?
@@dawn-blade I'm glad you asked! Social engineering is the name of the so called "hacking technique" used here.
It is based on tricking either the user into handing over their info, to click/go to a link that will compromise them, to download something that will allow shady actors to gain entry, or anything of the sort.
OR! The company providing the service being tricked by a shady actor pretending to "Just have lost access to their account" into handing the keys to the kingdom over.
This is called Social engineering, and its a very old "hacking" trick. It is also very low tech in its implementation, and thus akin to a shady hustler on the street managing to con you into buying something only for it to turn out to be stolen goods, which lands you in hot water with the Police.
This is thus where the name comes from. It relies solely to succeed on the target being gullible enough to fall for it. Hence why I put all the hacking words prior in quotation marks, as it isn't very technical by its very nature. It's usually from my observations what is really going on when people in MMORPGs get hacked - That, or recycling the same password all over the place, and when one service gets compromised the bad guys can easily gain entry.

Dumbass kid took my account worth maybeeee $200 when my email and password were the EXACT same for my PayPal with around $75k on it🤣(yes I know, dumb.. but in my defense the password was very complex).
Kid could have bought a car and down payment on a house but he just wanted those pixels
