Fun fact: in terms of vehicle modes, Earthrise Seekers are close enough in scale they are basically HO scale. This means that if you set this guy next to Starscream they are in scale.

As a Railfan (A person who watches/photographs/videos/studies trains as a hobby) I really want the figure for it’s alt mode alone. I think it would be awesome to have these figure on display as their locomotive modes to be put either near my other transformers or my railroad collection. (Though it’ll be a bit weird to see a Japanese Shinkansen among Canadian and American locomotives lol) One thing I want to point out is that what you called the attachment is actually known as a coupler. (Not trying to be rude, just wanted to point out that fact) other than that, great video!

Honestly, I get why they did Raiden first, my main theory being that since Raiden was the very first combiner done by takara in diaclone they would want to see how far they have come with mp raiden

I love how you factor in why the price of official figures are the way they are, it’s one of the things that a lot of fans don’t really try to understand and just hate on Hasbro and Takara’s official stuff. Keep up the good content!
Except for MPs, they do very little marketing on them. 2 magazines on it at most. This is the first time they've done a commercial for it. But still
The Classics Astrotrain repaint into Shouki is one of my holy grails it looks so cool
I have to hard disagree with you on Moon Studios Raiden. Mine fits together really, really well. Sure, they could have found a better way to attach the arms to their sockets, but they have not fallen off even once while I posed him. The bot modes of Moon Studios's offering are stylized to have those classic heroic proportions. When displayed together they look fantastic. I'd like to take a look at the MPG bots as an option for my CHUG collection, but there's no way that it fits into the modern G1 MP collection. Maybe if you had an old school Hasui style masterpiece collection that focused more on the alternate modes this may fit in, but pretty roughly I'd say.
But they’re 3P. QC is all over the place.
I accidentally ordered this and took a financial hit, but decided to ship it anyway without getting my money back, and man am I glad I did. I love this figure so much, and the size fits very well with WFC figures.

It’s interesting that we get the Trainbots, relative unknowns outside of Japan in the official MP line before we got the more well-known teams like the Constructicons.
I do kinda like that though because it allows Takara to cater to its Japanese consumers and also work out some kinks with masterpiece combining before moving into more “well known” combiners
Better the Trainbots to let their team warm up to designing combiners instead of ending up with a really mediocre first attempt on Devastator, Superion, Bruticus, etc.
Hell, it took 3 tries and 44 figures to get the best version we could of Prime
It was done in conjunction with Japan Railway to celebrate its 150th anniversary. The Trainbots are a fan favorite in Japan. Maybe after Raiden we will get more Masterpiece combiners, but I suspect it's Japan Railway's involvement that made this happen.

I also collect alot of HO scale locomotives and cars and as someone who is a train enthusiast this definitely looks better than the moon studios one.

Not sure if you have this yet, but MMC/Ocular Max Medicus is a really great figure, and I think it’s in stock on BBTS right now
Medicus was my first MMC figure and after the quality of it, I got all in on their Bruticus and am hyped for their Streetwise to release later this year
@@cesarcasti492 it was my first MMC figure as well, first 3P figure too, it is borderline perfect. I only have one issue with mine, and it’s that the second shoulder joint became loose on both sides, and it had trouble keeping the arms up, but I just put some superglue in there and it was all good.

I too purchased the MPG as opposed to moon studios..if you can get direct from Amazon Japan, that is the best deal. $133 USD I paid since I pre ordered. I hope the combined mode turns out to be solid.
The Moon Studios combined Raid looked ok from emgos video, but just too big for my collection. If this scales closer to UW ,I will be happy.
I've always liked the Trainbots and their combined form, Raiden. They were an interesting-looking team, I like how they all have Japanese names, I like how the combined form is named after the Japanese Thunder God, I love how they were a repurposed Diaclone set line the Constructicons, I think like the Arielbots, Protectobots, and Technobots before them, they're a perfect fit for an Autobot Combiner, and I just love trains!
Finally a train combiner. The last one was R.I.D. Rail Racer and he was three robots. Looking forward to getting these guys.

As a chug collector, and someone who has always wanted a toy of Raiden, I have to go with takara on this. Price doesn't really matter to me so I've been looking into the combined modes. Even with only unpainted prototypes of takara's, my family still voted for takara over moon studio saying that "it looked like a samurai and was cooler". Kinda looks like the g1 toy so that was also a selling point to me 😂
I've recently been loving trains so this is so cool!
I would love to get the entire set but that’s a lot for one bot I don’t actually know and really only wanna get because I don’t think there gonna make main line versions

It's nice to know I wasn't the only one who really didn't feel for Moon Studios' offering of the Trainbots and honestly you explained it quite well as to why.
They just feel too fiddly and way too ripe with issues regarding their qc and paint chipping on top of the combined mode barely even fitting together just made me not like that attempt at a Raiden.
This one though feels very nice and the fact it's HO scale is so nice too, glad they went for that honestly! One thing I am unsure of though is the fact this one uses quite the ammount of clear plastic, is Takara better at handling those than Hasbro when it comes to making it more durable? Never been too sure and I worry he would desintegrate after a bit.
Either way though, this was an awesome review and I'm glad to see the Trainbots get more love! One of my favorite looking combiners for sure xD
I doubt that it's that much better when you consider that there have been breakages in the MP line since around MP36 G1 Megatron, including the likes of MP43 BW Megatron, MP44 Optimus Prime 3.0/MP49 Black Convoy, allegedly MP45 Bumblebee 2.0, MP47 Hound, allegedly MP48 Lio Convoy, and the MP52 Seeker mold...

How does he scale up against Legacy figures? I've heard all of the MPG Trainbots fit in better with them as opposed to Masterpiece figures
I just wish this guys were Slightly bigger. They're not bad, but I'm really not interested in them. I just hope that the next MP combiner its a more interesting character than Raiden
2:44 The thing I am with scaling is, often time when I and many other fans think some figure doesn't look right, for example, the mp-52 starsream being a bit too short because he would look better aside megatron had he been taller, we get beaten out of crap by those TT lickers with that sunbow chart. So when TT messed up the scale based on the sunbow chart, I'm also gonna beat the crap out of those TT lickers. The world really can be a lot more peaceful if those lickers don't start the war in the first place.

The gun doesn't stay on mine, either. I think that's true for all of them I think. Also I agree about the hands. That's by far the worst thing about the figure.
I love transformer trains, the typical cars, trucks and jets kinda get boring after a while. A unique or different vehicle always intrest me.

I know you probably won't see this comment but when ever you brought in that combiner to compare him to what was the purple guys name who turned into the right arm, I have that guy but I lost the instructions so I can't get him into arm mode and I have no idea what his name is.

My biggest problem with these is how expensive they are for the size. I know some people don't like the moon studios one but I still think that one is amazing looking and it feels amazing in hand. My moon studios bots hold together great and is my fav transformers set ever.
There's like a $20 price difference between the individual bots. 🤔

@@jackhawk3776 Ah, I have not held Moon Studios bots in hand. The bots are physically bigger than the Hasbro ones? Did they really just say "screw it" to the Sunbow size chart? I'm glad Takara-Tomy stuck with the size chart personally.
No worries, I can always find the ones in Leigon Class size since Leigon Class is one of my favorite Transformers toy classes.

I'm glad you like how it looks. Aesthetics (and price to some extent) are subjective, but build and materials aren't. The mushroom pegs on the bicep easily coming off because that area isn't engineered to be covered is an objective thing. I think the main contention for people with this figure is that it's supposed to feel like a Masterpiece, especially for the price it asks, but even MP Sideswipe... wide chest and all, blows this out of the water. Anyway... if you like it, you like it.

I was 100% on board with MP Raiden until I saw Emgo's review of Shouki and that the entire train is clear plastic. Absolute disappointment because the golden age-style engineering and fact that it's an official Raiden was a huge draw for me.
Edit: also, to clarify, yes it's pronounced like "show key."

Thanks for calling out 3rd party companies on releasing the same thing over and over again. I applaude Takara for releasing this since trains and Transformers are something I love and it's nice to see more of that instead of AstroTrain again.

First time viewer as i'm looking into getting the trainbots. Looks very impessive but so expensive, at least $900 all together at the very least to get all of them. I agree about the lack of value but with it being a combiner makes it more worth it. I'm not thrilled about them charging $30 extra for the display box for all six with the sixth figure.

I have the others, I just haven't made videos on them cause I plan on doing a big one once they all and the comments getting disabled was RUclips calling the video "made for kids". Hence why I say that thing at the beginning

Gonna be honest. While I agree generally on your statements amount 3rd party as a whole, it really doesn't back the end result looking like absolute dog poo. The backpack looks more like the animation than the Moon by the same margin that a pug looks more like a pit bull than a shitzu.
Also, you say in every single video where something is off compared to the generally accepted animation accuracy view that "g1 was never that accurate," but also go and use the backpack as the big reason why it's better? Because it's more accurate? Scaling does also have a general idea of what it should be, an inaccuracy or two doesn't override the majority state of the character.
The whole thing is clear plastic too that's just... cheap design. Why didn't they make the doors standard ABS with clear inserts? It's an MP figure, built like a CHUG figure. Hell, even the proportions look like it's a CHUG.
I don't have any interest in Raiden, but that thing is just UGLY. And I also kinda hate Zeta as a company, but the official MP does noooooot look better.
I was always more of a Go-Bots/Rock Lords person anyway lol.
THANK YOU for pointing out WHY official figures are more expensive. 3P steals a lot of the designs, or they don't use good materials, and they make MUCH smaller batches. People just think hasbro are evil or something. MPG Shouki is a fun figure. I mostly got it for the train mode, since I've ridden the shinkansen many times in Japan. I'm not getting the whole set since I have no nostalgia for the trainbots.
Your opening statement about 3rd party is right on the moneh (all trademark rights go to bobbyskullface). The same things over and over with massive QC issues jusy makes me turned off to it completely. It seems the legends and the unicron trilogy offerings seem to be the only breath of fresh air; which I love, I just wish people would follow suit. I mean come on, the fact no one is doing a fire convoy, x brawn, prowl and sideburn is wild to me.
They did make a 3rd Party non transforming fire Convoy figure (it was mp scaled). It didn't sell that well

I’m so happy to hear I’m not the only one that doesn’t like the proportions on the Moon Studio Trainbots. They’re super innaccurate to the anime both modes and the Moon Studio ones are WAY too big. If you’re displaying them in individual robot modes the Takara ones are actually the right size.

Moon Studios blows this out the water; clean robot mode and great sized train. I still quite like Takara’s but the backpack is truly hideous, crazy kibble, the train mode is tiny and the price is just silly. The ten-cents train track doesn’t make up for that.

I don’t see the point of slagging off the moon studio so much when it’s better, you can make the argument of marketing and all that but it’s still a flawed argument that doesn’t consider the actual bureaucratic bs Takara went through with the Japanese government. However it doesn’t make any sense that it’s called a masterpiece as well, say what you will about moon studio but it is masterpiece through and through, this is an overpriced chug no matter how you put it

@@transformnroll2752 Yeah. I've even bought quite a few ko's lately and the plastic on them was good. Takara on the other hand with Sunstreaker, Hound, MP-44, some of the Beast Wars MP's and others have been questionable in terms of plastic quality.
It was a failure. I won’t bat an eye if this was release as generations toy. It’s engineering feels like an mp toys 10-15 years back. And the size is so much inferior to combine wars Devi or predaking.
Let's not call this a masterpiece. It's an overpriced chug figure. It's combiner wars scale and it's clearly not the quality of other MP figures. Biggest regret of a purchase in my collecting life. Raiden is a "train wreck".
