I own my business and I really get tired because I have to do it all myself; making products, accounting, marketing, selling, etc. I just wish I knew how overwhelming owning your own business would be.

I am considering a line of products for men - the untapped resource. I will continue to peer into your universe as I carefully proceed with my plans. It would be nice to supplement my income from a home based business and spend more time with the true love of my life. We don't have that many years left together and I want to make the most of them! You are truly a blessing to those you touch!
I consider myself to be part of that circle as well! Not saying I am a sociable or personable person but being myself allows me to think more clearly due to no distractions..mind you I have 4 children plus I'm a grandma I love spending time with them however that alone time I really soak up and hold on to! I guess when your like me and have kids grandkids you get so use to running here there and everywhere that when they are all on their own that's when you start to realize how precious alone time is! The advice still stands. Don't rely on that support for the entirety of your business's life. You need to find your customer base because once the initial support is over, you'll need a reoccurring source of buyers.

I sell clothing currently but am moving into self care products. I’ve always shipped internationally. I’ve been doing it for 3 years. I’ve only had a few issues. One girl had her package stuck in customs, another girls package did get lost. I felt so bad for her :( But for the most part all has been good and I ship to Turkey, Egypt, Australia, Japan etc. the key to international shopping is using Priority shipping or something like DHL which is so expensive so take that into consideration.
I can definitely see shipping clothing internationally being much easier. This issue with skincare products is you have to have proper declarations of all the ingredients. Some ingredients like retinol aren't allowed in some countries over a specific percentage. Some ingredients aren't allowed at all in specific countries, etc. I'm glad you have had such a good experience shipping internationally. I hope I can do the same one day. :)
TaraLee ahh I never thought about ingredients...that’s crazy. I do think of course following laws are super important but most large label brands don’t follow those very strict laws and just put the package contents. It can be more challenging as a small business trying to follow all the guidelines.

I just started my skincare business and really I am just in P&D stage or perfecting recipes and testing on humans haha my friends and family want to help try my creations. I feel so lucky that my boyfriend wants to help me and it will just be figuring out where he may be able to help but mostly I will be doing it all myself I believe too. This is the second business I have started this year so I do like to have a good go. First one is consultancy for my town planning business which I am aiming for it to be a long-term business that other professionals will end u running and bringing me in the coin and making skincare and soap makes me happy so that will be what I mostly do.
This has a lot of truths in it. ive been working on building my subscriber list up until the official launch and its all strangers. none of my direct circle signed up, but its okay. my plan is to expand and push to an entire new base. I could see the lonely part. im hoping to keep my packaging/formulation days to weekends, and weekdays pushing small orders.

I had an accessories business and wished I could've found a way to outsource the manufacturing part so that I could concentrate on marketing my business. I would say to look into ways to have someone else do something that is either too time consuming (for me it was sewing all of my products) or that you aren't good at (if tech isn't your thing, it wasn't mine, either).

That's great! good luck with your business. I recommend starting on Etsy. I think you will get more customers right away compared to using Shopify. A lot of people go to Etsy specifically looking for handmade items and you are more likely to be found, compared to having your own site. Then once you build up a client base move to shopify. Keep both your Shopify and Etsy for a while. Then eventually you can shut down your Etsy, or continue it if you would like. Also starting on Etsy is a lot less stressful compared to making a shopify.

I have my own shopify store and when i first started i thought starting with my own website would make it so that i get all the sales and people arent distracted from other peoples items BUT now that ive had that store for awhile i agree with Tara, you cant really be found unless people are specifically looking for your site, it would have been so much easier to get customers through etsy FIRST then once you get a large customer base maybe moving to shopify after. so i forsure agree start an etsy first! I'm glad you enjoy them cause I love making them too :) I do offer private labeling. How I do mine is I can sell you my products in wholesale without the labels so you can use your own labels and brand them yourself. But I don't offer the option of you sending me your own packaging and me packing it in that instead.
I wish I knew exactly what I wanted the name of my business to be. Changing my mind more than once means I have had to rebut domains and register business names which the cost of adds up quite a bit.

So, I am a massage therapist and I want to start my own skincare/body care business this year. However, one question that keeps circling my brain is the legality of it. I’m not a skincare expert or an esti and I’ve been wondering, are there any contingencies that come along with that? Obviously it’s someone’s choice to buy products from you but if it’s something I decided to get into and am not an expert in the field, is there anything that comes along with that? Or any additional credentials needed for the products you sell that people will be putting on their face and body? I’m starting with salves, body oils and facial massage oils but, down the line, I’d like to create facial cleansers, serums, moisturizers, etc. Is there any additional credentials I need to do that? Part of it just seems strange to me not being an expert, but being familiar. Thanks!
I don’t own a business but if you form your business under an LLC and you don’t puncture the corporate veil then your personal assets should be protected.
I think its okay as long as you stand out in the niche you choose to venture.There are many sectors in the cosmetic field and so is the market.Just research on your niche and the market viability.

what did confuse me at first was registering mine. virtual addresses and when/how to use them, vs. the business mailing address for customers etc.

I do offer private labeling. How I do mine is I can sell you my products in wholesale without the labels so you can use your own labels and brand them yourself. But I don't offer the option of you sending me your own packaging and me packing it in that instead.

I wish I knew exactly what I wanted the name of my business to be. Changing my mind more than once means I have had to rebut domains and register business names which the cost of adds up quite a bit.

I'm going through shipping and handling problems right now. I sell skincare items and my items get heavy so shipping costs. So I'm trying to decide if I should add my shipping prices in with my items or just let ppl pay what it cost for shipping separately

So, I am a massage therapist and I want to start my own skincare/body care business this year. However, one question that keeps circling my brain is the legality of it. I’m not a skincare expert or an esti and I’ve been wondering, are there any contingencies that come along with that?
Obviously it’s someone’s choice to buy products from you but if it’s something I decided to get into and am not an expert in the field, is there anything that comes along with that? Or any additional credentials needed for the products you sell that people will be putting on their face and body? I’m starting with salves, body oils and facial massage oils but, down the line, I’d like to create facial cleansers, serums, moisturizers, etc. Is there any additional credentials I need to do that? Part of it just seems strange to me not being an expert, but being familiar. Thanks!

I don’t own a business but if you form your business under an LLC and you don’t puncture the corporate veil then your personal assets should be protected.
You can purchase a type of product insurance as well

I think its okay as long as you stand out in the niche you choose to venture.There are many sectors in the cosmetic field and so is the market.Just research on your niche and the market viability.
