Ahhh, Auckland. One of Sydney's most beautiful suburbs. :-) Seroiusly, NZ a beautiful country with wonderful people. Flew that route a lot when I lived in Australia.

Your starter was the Same as me when I flew Qantas businesses class to Wellington 😁. I had the bulkhead wall in front of me so plenty legroom which was a blast

I remember seeing my first sunrise in the air. I was flying on an Air Canada L-1011 (yes, old) from Calgary to Toronto and the sun just literally popped up over the horizon. The engine lit up. There was just something about that moment and all of the world was right.
Yes it's amazing when the engine is lit up in that warm orange/purple/pink glow.
Hey Paul! The views of the sunset are exquisite. You are 100% correct about watching outside the window and seeing the majestic skies at dawn and dusk! I really like when you film those moments.

Good to get the chance to see what the current business class offering is like on the B737 Paul. I always feel there should be a price difference between that and the new seat on the B787 and A330. I see many airlines now offer ice cream as a dessert in their business class, but I think it is just a lazy option! I understood Jetconnect ceased operations in 2018, with all trans-Tasman routes now being operated by Qantas. I believe this was because Qantas wanted these aircraft to fly domestic routes within Australia as well as across the Tasman, but as the Jetconnect aircraft were not registered in Australia, they were unable to do so, opting instead to transfer the Jetconnect routes back to Qantas in order to give the airline greater flexibility.
Jetconnect is still around and only provides NZ based flight and cabin crew for the B737s that overnight in AKL and WLG and occasionally on Qantas long haul services. Jetconnect AOC was cancelled in 2018 and the NZ registered B737's were re-registered in Australia under Qantas AOC.
Great footage Paul but that seat looks pretty subpar! It's a good tip to get fly in the A330s although I didn't realise that Emirates even had a lounge at Auckland! Cheers

Hey Paul, always fly Qantas and had flown Qantas to Wellington in the past. My recent flight to Auckland was booked by a third party on Air New Zealand and I upgraded to premium economy. Amazing service, comfort and the food was outstanding. Cost of the upgrade was minimal ($200 AUD). i would travel with Air new Zealand in a heartbeat again. I've always had One World membership and joined Star Alliance just for this flight. Well worth it.
Price was on par with Qantas but larger plane Airbus 330 and overall, much more room.

Hi Paul, not sure if you are aware but a little fun fact about that particular 747 is that it was the one which was used to fly in and out of Wuhan picking up our fellow compadres who couldn’t get out! I work for Qantas in Melbourne so I might see you on arrival tomorrow!

A couple of things ... the plate looked very small on your tray table, or was there too much food on it ?
The second is that you do not pronounce the "C" in Sauvignon blanc; your cornichon was not too bad !

Paul Stewart I used to commute to Wellington/Auckland for a 2 year period and just often had delays. Glad to be done with that!!
(QFamenitykit) I prefer wide body service over narrow body as well
N747ER was a Qantas Aircraft built for Qantas as it was a 747-438ER and Boeing were very strict on customer numbers, refusing to change them even if an airframe was on sold from the production line (MH first two 747-200Bs were 747-236B as they were in the process of being built for BA when purchased by MH.
However, it’s likely Boeing said to Qantas that the first aircraft would be flown as a demonstrator and for publicity amd marketing and they would receive an appropriate discount, if it were otherwise it would likely have been built as a 747-420ER.

Made me happy that I only fly that route in economy section. Does not appear to be much of extra value in paying for the business upgrade.
To be honest I'd never use points or pay for business in a 737 on a 3hr flight. Economy is perfectly adequate for such a short flight.
Fantastic you could get BBC down their Paul ! Hopefully they put subtitles on for the Aussies so they can run their finger along next to the long words and try and speak them out loud ... hee hee. When are we down there again to win the ashes?
Joking aside, great review, I think anyone would prefer getting a bigger plane in summary. Interesting the demand is so that that they need different sizes depending on the flight, what days are most popular?
haha yeah now that EK have dropped there trans-Tasman A380s there would be a lot more pax wanting tickets on other airlines. I believe that's one reason why QF have started putting the A330s and season 787s on the route.

@@PaulStewartAviation perfect mate sounds great, and although the ATR is a beautiful craft, I'm on the Q300 Dash8 beauty. I would recommend either a Gisborne return, just stunning and coming back over Tauranga, White Island or New Plymouth, just breathtaking views buddy.

I would say comparing this to BA or any European carrier this business class product on QF’s 737 is amazing. In Europe as I’m sure you’re aware we only get a blocked middle seat and relatively poor catering not to the standard you had. Overall, this is a very impressive product considering it’s only a few hours flight plus does domestic Australian flights too, European carriers need to learn! (QFamenitykit)

nah 2 or 3 are a much of a muchness. 3 has a better view of the engine as 2 is too far forward
