My 100th video had to be about my favorite animal in this world, outside my dog Shasta, and 4th reunion of my cheetah buddy Gabriel. If you noticed, most of my videos are about him. I was back volunteering at Cheetah Experience this past December 2016 and decided to make a Video Blog or VBlog of our relationship so far.
IT's A LONG ONE but necessary to show our history and true friendship over the past three years; that and a little exposure of my feelings for him. I don't like showing emotion but Gabriel brings that out in me. This video is for me to remind me of him, but was willing to reveal some of my emotion publicly.
New safety and health protocols were in place at Cheetah Experience so I was not allowed to visit Gabriel inside his enclosure as before. The news was devastating for me. I've never so disappointed in my life, but a facility like CE cannot afford an incident or the over-reacting negative publicity that follows. The animals and program are more important than getting a hug from my buddy so I understand.
I was delighted that I did not need to hold Gabriel to reacquaint and re-establish our bond together. In fact, I witnessed a new behavior I had not seen before from him... Rubbing!
I often mimic positive animal behaviors and calls to aid in my relationship with animals and used Gabriel’s rubbing to help solidify ours. I simulated rubbing back against him. I don't know it he would rub me if we were face to face and not separated by a cold rusty fence.
I know my encounters with Gabriel would have been fine but CE cannot take that chance and I understand. Just this past month there were three incidents and attacks at other facilities involving cheetahs. Tragically, a three-year-old boy died from an attack by a captive cheetah that walked out of its pen because of someone's negligence. Manslaughter charges could be pending for this operator. The animals at CE cannot afford to lose support and so safety and health for both human and cheetahs must come 1st.
Enjoy my blubbering over my cheetah Buddy Gabriel. He is the 1st animal that I love that I don't own. This is because he was the 1st to fulfill a life-long boyhood dream of mine. To befriend a wild animal and have it love me back. Gabriel fulfilled that dream and it was his actions that allowed it. He came to me rather than the other way around and I could not be happier about it.
I admit it... I love Gabriel and I think he loves me back.

Dolph, this made me cry, not from sadness, but joy, thats a beautiful relationship you have there, and the purring you get from Gabe tells the tale. isnt the Rubbing , known as marking, I know house cats rub on their owners to mark them with scent glands, I think you were getting that treatment, what a wonderful life you lead.
Yes, marking from Gabriel and it is an honor. A cheetah thinks I'm worthy to carry his scent. That life is only sparing and temporary. I wish it were all the time as I only volunteer twice a year and only ones this year. I've never been happier when with them... the cheetahs.
You can always go get some 80-grit sandpaper and scratch it all over your face if you ever get sentimental.

I love the soft purrs Gabriel gives every time he sees you! Is it unusual for Cheetahs to bond with people like this that visit frequently?
I was going to metion that. Everytime Gabriel thinks or sees me... he purrs. Many tamed cheetahs are friendly and some like certain genders, like Gabriel prefering the company of men, but with any animal, you spend time with them, they attach emotionally with you. Bonding works best when they are young, but if you make an impression on an animal, like I did Gabriel, they can attach even with infrequent visits like me.
He will never forget you. You guys have a real bond

I can't believe the trust that cheetah has in you. It's absolutely amazing watching him groom you like a part of his family . You have his heart.. It looks like it would feel good having him groom you, but I can't imagine the feel of their tongue like needles grooming you. Lol. This brought joy to my heart...He has such a trust in you and has singled you out to bond.

just wanted to say I've always loved cheetahs and all animals, but especially cheetahs. And this brotherhood you have with this beautiful creature is breathtaking. I love your heart and his. It makes me cry every time I get to see you guys together. Its funny you should say its angel hair cuz his name is Gabriel. That was really cool. Gabriel sure is sweet, i love this video. i think its great you mimic the sounds of the cheetah, its a very good way to build a bound with him. Reminds so much if my special kitty brenda bob, she loves being with me.

This year for sure... I only go to CE for all my vacation and leave. Collect it throughout the year and travel.

I'm so sorry you were not able to visit with Gabriel personally inside his enclosure and receive one of his "special hugs" while he groomed you. While I know there are liabilities and risks involved and understand the position of the facility on wanting to keep visitors and volunteers protected and safe, it has always been such a joy to see you interacting, petting, and even spending the night with the cheetahs at Cheetah Experience. I hope they change their minds/policies. In the interim, thank you again for such a great video. I look forward to the next one. :)

A friend of mine linked a video to your channle to me a few days ago. I cant stip watching. I love seeing you interact and describe and talk about and to the cats. I learn some really cool things and get to see them do things as well. If I could I would volunteer. Thats the power and inspiration you hold. I know you cant always do this but when you can I would love to see you make more videos. I'll be waiting for the bell to tell me when that happens and I'll give a like to that video to. I'd also like to note I've learned alot avout cheetahs and there situation and I've linked these to multiple people. They feel and understand the same way. It's very unfortunate but its great knowing you are getting the word out there.

Super glad you are enjoying my videos and GABRIEL!!! My favorite cheetah in the world. As you can tell I Love him and why I ended up legally owning him! But, most ALL these cheetahs love to nibble and lightly chew on your nose, fingers, hands, ears, and even your arm. Some more than others. Grooming those they like is an obsession for cheetahs.
Great video as always. Why weren't you allowed within the enclosure this time around? That must've been tough to have the chain link fence between you two this time around. Will you see him again?
It's a new safety protocol the owners of the enclosure have put in place due to a three year old boy being killed by a captive Cheetah.
I hear of more children being killed by pitbulls than cheetahs. Also 3 vs 40 year old, yeah seems dumb.
This is what I thought too. Kind of lame that they were separated by a fence the whole time.
I begged but they wouldn't let me because of new safety and health protocols. Gabriel has a reputation for orneriness, but not with me.

I was not allowed inside because of new safety and health protocols at Cheetah Experience. The protection of the project is too important. Gabriel is 3.5 years old and potentially dangerous. It was ok since Gabriel didn't mind just visiting through the fence.

Yeah, this facility owns the most disappointing depressing moments of my life. But years later, I bought Gabe and it became one of the most rewarding and relieving moments in my life.

So glad you enjoyed watching the friendship between Gabriel and I. He has captured my soul and he mine like no other. My future goal is to have full ownership of Gabriel and bring him to my own small cheetah conservaion project and train him simple commands so I can take him on game walks in a reserve so he can sense what it is like being a free cheetah.
I am in talks about owning Gabriel. My 5th reunion with him will be early next year. I hope to be his new Dad and record our reunion where he can place his paws back on my shoulders like he loves and me hold his shoulders and hear and feel his loud purring.
There is a song recently I heard from Andrew McHahon called "Cecilla And The Satellite" that says, " For all the things my hands have held, the best by far is you." I can't help be think of Gabriel when I hear this song and how that applies to me. I was so disappointed no being allowed to visit Gabriel last time when I volunteered at CE. We meet again early next year man to cheetah.

I love cats, since I was little kid my grandparents has cat in their house, I stay with them almost every weekend, I adopted cats when I was in college and after that, always imagined adopting a bigger cat, among all those big cats, I think the cheetahs is the best option to have, they're not aggressive as other big cats. Love your videos!

I bought him months after this video to secure his safety and future. I could not allow anything happening to him. He is still at CE as I trust them but when I move to South Africa, he will come with me. I want to setup a cheetah breeding program with a release.
Another reason I've read for animals to roll around in the dirt is to get minerals into their system that they don't get in their regular diet. They absorb them through their backs. It's just a healthy instinct all animals have.
How would a cheetah get minerals like this? Not through absorption, but maybe grooming it off? Gabriel did just that when it rained, got dirt all over him and began licking it off.
What a cute video. I read the description.. Too bad a boy was killed by a cheetah.. BUT it was captive. It's not the cheetah's fault that his parents were uneducated and didn't even think about that the cheetah could harm the boy. I don't even know how he was killed.. Did he go inside? It's the parent's fault 100%. Also too bad you can't see Gabriel. I mean you really really can't or you just wont hug him etc?

The boy was left alone... three years old at a sanctuary that had this male cheetah. Someone left the gate open and the captive cheetah got out and found this boy... inside the game range at a bungalow alone. Horrific! He had no chance against it. So sad. Mom's fault and negligent drunk staff.
I am not allowed inside with Gabriel anymore due to safety protocols. Gabriel acted up against a staff member again since last I was there. Not the 1st time. They don't trust him but they don't have the relationship I have with him either (as you see).

Yes, I was mentioning incidents inside South Africa and cheetahs, not CE. People get injured all t he time working with wild cats, I get scratched all the time, but what is rare are attacks.

@@ballthatbounces626 I have since purchased Gabriel... that is how much I love him. The owner/founder of Cheetah Experience recognized our bond and my passionate drive to establish my own cheetah breeding center and sold him to me. One of the greatest days of my life. The worst days of my life were my dog dying and then being told I could never encounter Gabriel again. I understood depression during those times but I had a future goal that kept me going and the strength of God.
I am stuck in my career and hoping within a year to move to South Africa and start my project with him and purchase others for my project.
Absolutely amazing, I will certainly donate today and if I win the lottery I will totally take care of Running Wild even more so BTW how is Gabriel doing these days...

Hi Dolph. Always love your videos. Such a shame you can no longer go into his enclosure with him. Can I ask if his fur felt soft please?
Cheetah fur is graded ruff to sleek, but not really soft. The more black fur they have the softer. The dark spots have a finer fur than the yellow/orange. Head is very ruff, that and the tail. But, in winter, their undercoat fills out and they look bigger and feel more fluffy. Summer they shed and that is when their sides feedl sleek.

I've always loved animals since I was a child. Favorite is the intelligent bottlenosed dolphin because, besides the killer whale, the smartest animal outside us and maybe chimps. My favorite bird is the raven because they are the most intelligent bird. Grey parrot is up there too.
I like intelligent animals because you can interact with them on more levels than lesser ones. Predators are my favorite class of animals and why cheetahs are on my love list. I was REALLY attracted to the non-combative, non-aggressive and pleasant temperament of cheetahs and why I finally migrated to them. They are endanger of extinction and that has motivated me to help them.
@@CheetahWhisperer I absolutely love them too! I've also always wanted to swim with the dolphins. I'm probably the biggest animal lover in here besides you. You just wouldn't believe to what extents lol.
I have been driving many times and almost kill myself dodging to not run over anything!

Hey my son and daughter swore that they saw a white tiger in the woods behind our house,,and they still say till this day,,WHAT THEY SAW WAS A WHITE TIGER..smh unbelievable,,idk how one of those got here, but I believed them then and now
10:58 are his eyes truly "rolling back" or is it just the third eyelid (nictitating membrane) sliding across the eye?? I can understand the Center's reasons for no more contact, but wish they had made an exception in your case. You have interacted with this lovely creature and it's beneficial for both species. Does this rule apply to all the cats at the Center... the caracals, African wild cats, and the black leopard... or just the cheetahs. At any rate, I am glad you got to reunite with Gabriel; I know it must have been hard to not hold, cuddle and play with him :(
You may be right... the special flap of tissue that covers the eyes slides over the cornea when they close their eyes.
Just the adult cheetahs... most of them and especially ones that have acted up in the past. Ones that do are added to the list of no contact. Some staff are allowed visitation with them but for good reasons, like injury or sickness or something that warrants it but have to have two people.
South Africa law regarding game farms and breeding centers are set to change with all the recent mishaps, injuries, attacks and now death as a result of interactions with cheetahs. The public should not have interactions with adult wild predators the size of cheetahs. Most people just don't know how to react or behave around them.
Cheetah attacks are sensational news, considering dogs attack and even kill people more often, but being a rare event makes it news. But, yes... I think I earned an exception with my relationship with Gabriel but I love CE and respect whatever they say. I'll have many more opportunities to share time with Gabriel in the future.
Cats have incredible memory apparently... that lion that was released in the wild and remembered that guy after years prove it... cats seem most appreciative when you take care of them

At 0:21 as the animal embraces your forehead, it might have accidentally harm your eyes. Animals do such moves among themselves too, and I get worried at those too, as their eyes might be harmed. Eyes are such delicate organs, I mean.

Right on... We are together now when I volunteer there now. He remembers me. I convinced the owner to sell him to me for my cheetah breeding project. Gabe and I were elated. He might be a father in April... I will record it and possibly 'Live' record it.
