I’m feeling like more people are playing shaman as healers in groups. Are there actually things that make a cleric better in a group as a healer than a shaman? I’m a level 12 cleric at the moment.
Cleric has very strong damage mitigation with shields and the AC/health buff at low levels. They have an easier time dealing with damage spikes, but having a shaman off-healing and providing debuffs along with a cleric main healing a party is a great combo. Also, shaman is very popular because it is a strong solo class and easier to level because of it has higher damage than cleric.
Great question. @little answered it very well. But yeah the synergy between the classes are amazing. Cleric has huge heals, with a lot of mitigation. Shaman has decent heals and HoTs (Heals over time) and is a good buffer. I'm not too deep into Pantheon but looking at it from an EQ perspective that they modeled the classes on, shaman has a lot of surviveability and versatility. Theyre good enough to main heal but their true strength is the utility they provide. I love having a shaman in the group. It surprised me in pantheon that they can rezz as well. But yeah ultimately no one compares to the raw healing ability of clerics.

Awesome! I have heard of Paladin doing really well. I really like this archetype. A tough tank, hard to kill, with a lot of healing capability, probably not a lot of damage, but can last a long time. Watched your review of the MNM stress test, agreed with you there and agree with you here too. Group play is about the only strong point of this game right now. Also the world seems more linear than even more modern MMOs.
Very fair point. I'm completely with you. I have high hopes for MNM. Small team and not as much funding, development time, etc. I know Pantheon suffered a lot of setbacks, but we are growing old and tired of waiting. It feels like a minimum viable product sometimes. I've been generally enjoying Pantheon but I definitely feel like it's missing some level of style and heart that EQ has. I have no real nostalgia for EQ, my first time actually playing it was a TLP a few years back but the charming art just makes you want to explore more of the world, I don't get that as much in Pantheon. Also combat balance seems to be off, I don't really like how my cleric's actual healing is pointless, I mostly just roll my shield on the tank and pray they don't get blasted because I can only cast 2 or 3 heals before being completely oom. Hopefully they iron all of that stuff out to make it flow better.
Valid concerns... EQ had a lot of charm for sure, my favorite thing about it. And so memorable. I'm not big on the generic looking unity assets. I hope it will improve over time. Playing cleric also, it does feel like that at times. I was in a tough group where the big heals helped a lot. This is where Cleric can start to shine. I hope it grows on you! @@12lippylucy I was really really excited for a new mmo, the trailer had me smiling cheek to cheek, I loaded in the game and just first words were simply What the fuck... Wiped it off my face, I'm having a hard time understanding how people are actually enjoying it quite frankly, I'm just toxic to try and argue against them, The communities turned me off from it
Fair point, i'll be sad when this happens. Maybe their plans will change or they will reconsider. Either way, it's one of those things, you can always jump in later when it's more fleshed out and defined.
It will happen. It's a mmorpg and is in early development. You can have people already at max level when they release the game. It's unfair for new players. So play the game when it is fully released.
Been playing it , the music and landscaping is great. However I think the effort in the actual characters is lame. Hopefully they are placeholders. The dwarf looks like a statue out of wow. A gnome should be small like how they were in EQ. I think they should put all their effort into the characters. All these years and nobody has really pushed the characters to a new level. I wanna see realistic animations, eyeballs that move, head tracking, kick ass emotes and some really good voice sounds. Nothing is more important then the characters. People should be amazed by some new ideas and technologies otherwise it's gonna be labeled as a clone. I'm not saying it has to be high definition graphics or moving hair. I'm saying these characters need to come to life and not look like a skinny paper doll staring off into space. The only one that looks good so far is the halflings. Again gnomes are supposed to be cute and small.
Absolutely, especially since we are our characters and have to look at them. It's more meaningful if you're truly invested in your character. Humans look terrible. Very generic. I hope this improves as well. Graphics aren't everything but I'm with you about the character models for sure
Few things I would like added. INGAME map with corpse marker. Quest markers to give you a general idea of where to go. Actual level indicators for mobs. Everything else is am good with.
Yeah maps aren't going to happen. If you are really struggling to find your corpse you can get a corpse summon from someone. You can also use the location command to get the coordinants before you release your body. Quest markers is also a no go. If you really need to figure it out go to shalazam or ask people in game for help. Its a social mmo. You are just asking for features from other MMOs that make them less social.
lol I feel your pain, the fun thing is, sometimes going on a corpse run and members from the community get involved and help eachother out can lead to some interesting moments and emergent gameplay, a group experience you didnt think you needed or could happen, but yeah it can be rough when time is limited, and can take a long time. I don't think we will see this in Pantheon due to their commitment to keep it old school
Anyone who is sad about this game having wipes has no clue what a complete mmo should look like. If they dont wipe characters when 1.0 comes out it would be completely silly. Not only do we not have every class and race, we dont have nearly any of thw starting zones finished. People dont seem to understand what early access is and means for this game. If there isnt a wipe in the 2-5 years that this game will be in early access I honestly think that would push me and many players away from trying this game out. People hate the idea of starting out behind
That would mean Pantheon was in development for 15+ years...for a game that looks like a 2003 game. This was the Devs last ditch effort to make a little money before shutting it down. So far they made about 140k. Which isn't going to be enough to continue anything.
EQ was like this once u hit lv 40ish. Fighting giants for plat, or running Velks from upper 40's-50's camping FF, Eyes, etc was one of the safest ways to lvl.. But why the devs made the early game so reliant on heavy group play was definitely the wrong move. In 1999, it was fine. In 2024, it's not. I think the devs should scale down all mobs at least until lvl 10 or when we get powerful enough to do our first actual dungeon. Then make grouping needed to get through it. Almost forcing ppl to group early while sitting in low level camps will probably have a negative impact moving forward. Just my thoughts as someone who played EQ for 6 years until EQ 2 & WoW came out.
Is not really ready for impressions since almost everything is most likely going to change in some way as it's no where near release. It's crazy that some people are playing alphas and betas then complaining about things they should know it's going to happen like wipes, down time and changes. The general community now days for alphas and beta games so nothing but cry. I'm glad the older gamers at least still realize what alphas and beta actually are. Good job.
playerbase changed alot unfortunately. Noticed that people will instantly leave group without giving any heads up. If 1 person leaves then suddenly 3 other people "gtg bye". There's no loyalty or coutesy like you would find in EQ. It's just not the same. WoW players with the PUG mentality pervades.
I have only been in two groups, a lot of the OG EQ players do have that mentality from what I've seen on Stormona. But yeah, as time went on, a lot of gamers picked up these bad habits lol. It won't get you far in Pantheon I don't think, but it's all very very niche.
sounds like you experienced a phenomenon. I haven't had this happen even once so far after playing for a few months at this point. (I pledged before it came out on steam)
I'm having fun grouping, that's the funnest part. Hopefully we get more updates soon because besides that there isn't a whole lot else. I'm glad you're enjoying it!
@@Slayheim The game reminds me of FF11.. The whole game was basically Grouping.. Raids/Dungeons/Soulslike basically.. this is what MMOs need to be successful.. WoW will eventually fall because it's going in the casual sense and making everything EASY as hell.. all you do on that game is Pull mob..pull mob.. kill boss.. done rinse and repeat.. Pantheon has the most potential I've seen in a VERY long time.
At least they got the crude graphics and the simplistic NPC behavior right. Must be hard to capture that 25 year old feel in a 2024 MMORPG. :) I would have at least like to see graphics similar to even Vanguard SOH instead of the cartoonish look.
Caves to the Human settlement isn't too bad if you can sneak past the camps in between but i've heard getting to Thronefast from Wild's End is rough lol. Truly classic :P
Pantheon is EQ 1.1, it is 90% the same game, the graphics are not as good as EQ2, there has been zero attempt to modernize the 25 year old mechanics of the original game, it is totally uninspired. I was expecting old school vibes and players being strongly encouraged to group, with at the same time a modern approach to MMOs, but it is just plain old EQ. The art style is terrible, the bank in the starter town looks so out of place that it is hilarious. People are playing it because nostalgia is a powerful drug but the game has nothing new to offer and of course it is like 25% finished. The second zone has invisible walls everywhere and is half empty.
You're close, we're not playing it for nostalgia, we're playing it precisely because it is so much like everquest. Given the current mmo scene, at this point we simply don't trust any developer to attempt to make such as you've described, an old school flavored game with modern conveniences. Even our community has a difficult time distinguishing between the modern conveniences that will counter the old design versus those that can parallel it. Trusting someone getting paid is even less likely.
@BlotterWizard I hear you, but you need logic to back up your claims. Nostalgia simply isn't an answer, it has nothing to do with what's happening. By your logic we are all nostalgic for everything we haven't yet advanced beyond. That's obviously nonsense, sometimes things are just good even though they were made in the past. It isn't Nostalgia to prefer an RPG to an action rpg. It isn't Nostalgia to prefer games with gravitas and high risk to reward ratio, to Arcade experiences. That's not what the word nostalgia means.
I dont get it. Its literally barebones, mobs, grind, basic character animations and world. Its basically Vanguard ...and the graphics are actually similar. Except it is 2025. I am just not seeing it. We are all just so desperate for a new MMO that we are rating things higher than it should be.
You’re not wrong-on the surface, Pantheon does feel reminiscent of older games like Vanguard, and it’s true that it’s not a visual powerhouse compared to today’s standards. However, I genuinely believe this game builds on those classic foundations in a meaningful way. It’s not just nostalgia-it’s an evolution. The combat, especially in a group, really shines. The pace feels deliberate and rewarding, and there’s something special about seeing classes synergize and relying on your team to overcome challenges. If you enjoyed games like Vanguard or EverQuest, I think Pantheon will resonate with you on a deeper level. Even the art style, while not impressive at first glance, grew on me as I ventured into different zones. There’s a subtle charm and personality to the world that isn’t immediately obvious. If you’re on the fence, I’d encourage you to give it a shot with a group. The beauty of Steam is that you can try it for up to 2 hours and still get a refund if it’s not for you. But who knows-you might find yourself pleasantly surprised like I was!
@@Slayheim I'm hopeful, I actually hope they put the work in to make this a great game. I know it's not a complete game and we all knew that when we bought it. But there's a lot of work to be done and I hope it's sooner rather than later. Right now, it's fun, I've yet to group I've lost tons of corpses. I've done the 20+ minute run to get to a new zone only to find out it's guarded by manticores, and I had to turn around and run back. But during that 20-minute run I saw no nodes, or mobs. Guess that was a part of the game that's not been completed yet. (sorry for the long message)
I’m part of the group that thinks after 10 years and 5 million $ this is a sad excuse of a state for the game to be in, EA is a oh shit we are broke and desperate to keep air in it’s lungs… I would rather they made intentionally shitty graphics, The style they chose is not the right one, Logged into eq2 and had more fun than Pantheon, But i don’t get to leave a review cause they can’t even give us steam keys for testing, It’s an empty shell of a game… Feel baited by the devs
Your words hit hard, part of me feels this pain and disappointment in a lot of ways. For me, I feel like I owe it to Brad to give this a fair shake, I hope it improves over time. The core is good, but a lot of work needs to be done. I totally understand your disappointment. Thanks for your thoughts!

Been playing regularly for the past year and they keep releasing content, patching bugs, and adding and iterating on systems. Someone should tell them they’re not very good at scamming.
This comment made me LOL. I know your pain, a lot of us grew tired of waiting. I'm skeptical in some ways myself. I hope they can pull through, there is a lot of work still to be done. Once people make up their mind it's tough to win them back, and a lot of time has passed.

I have a war, sham, and chanter I play with regularly and we all compliment each other very well and it’s awesome. Lots of interplay between us. It’s so much fun. We just have to grab 2 dips and roll on. Using discord really helps. Camped the spiders in Halners Cave the time.
I might try it in about 6 months.
Have you played Ashes of creation.
I would buy it in May, wait for phase 3.
I have not played Ashes of Creation but I've been following it a bit. Wasn't it mired in some kind of controversy? I know one of the designers of the Omens of War EQ Expansion (Overlord Mata Muram + Citadel of Anguish raid) which I really enjoyed their work is working on the game, I'll most likely check it out!
This is EA after 10 years and 5 million $, don’t get your hopes up in 6 months they might add one thing 😂😂😂 and only one
@@BlotterWizard i had heard of this game a while back , didnt realize it had been 10 years... i think ill pass :)
@@12lippylucy I was really really excited for a new mmo, the trailer had me smiling cheek to cheek, I loaded in the game and just first words were simply What the fuck... Wiped it off my face, I'm having a hard time understanding how people are actually enjoying it quite frankly, I'm just toxic to try and argue against them, The communities turned me off from it
The only thinf stopping me from playing and being a customer is the progression wipes. Without that id be sold.
It's Early Access for a Game that will not be out for 2 years. The only wipes are going to be when new Races, Classes are introduced to the Game.
It won’t survive EA, It’ll be 10 years before it’s an actual game
Boooo those ideas
Yeah maps aren't going to happen. If you are really struggling to find your corpse you can get a corpse summon from someone. You can also use the location command to get the coordinants before you release your body. Quest markers is also a no go. If you really need to figure it out go to shalazam or ask people in game for help. Its a social mmo. You are just asking for features from other MMOs that make them less social.
@@StratPIGi played eq, will not play this because of corpse runs. im all for slow and difficult but some things are a mean boring waste of time.
lol I feel your pain, the fun thing is, sometimes going on a corpse run and members from the community get involved and help eachother out can lead to some interesting moments and emergent gameplay, a group experience you didnt think you needed or could happen, but yeah it can be rough when time is limited, and can take a long time. I don't think we will see this in Pantheon due to their commitment to keep it old school
lol
Anyone who is sad about this game having wipes has no clue what a complete mmo should look like. If they dont wipe characters when 1.0 comes out it would be completely silly. Not only do we not have every class and race, we dont have nearly any of thw starting zones finished. People dont seem to understand what early access is and means for this game. If there isnt a wipe in the 2-5 years that this game will be in early access I honestly think that would push me and many players away from trying this game out. People hate the idea of starting out behind
When you put it that way, makes sense lol.
That would mean Pantheon was in development for 15+ years...for a game that looks like a 2003 game. This was the Devs last ditch effort to make a little money before shutting it down. So far they made about 140k. Which isn't going to be enough to continue anything.
Nice. Level 5 tho...i wonder what 40 is like.
Time and Patience, we'll get there! I bet the classes will really fall into stride at the higher levels.
99% of the group content is camp farming. That gets old really quick and we want more dungeon crawling and world events. Games static.
Agreed, it needs a lot more work.
Embers adrift did this. Lots more moving through a dungeon, far less finding a certain room for the night.
This game is doomed
@@BlotterWizard /wave
straight off Im super duper triggered by the EQ music in the best way possible, breaks out popcorn :)
Awesome! I love it too
Is not really ready for impressions since almost everything is most likely going to change in some way as it's no where near release.
(I pledged before it came out on steam)
the game is amazing so far!
Lol, yeah. I don't like the generic feel of Unity.
I thought the cat was part of the game
lol, nice
Nostalgic? Yes.
Easy or fun to play with friends? No. Starting areas too far apart for people who don’t want to start the same classes or races.
Caves to the Human settlement isn't too bad if you can sneak past the camps in between but i've heard getting to Thronefast from Wild's End is rough lol. Truly classic :P
Why you got eq music playing for a pantheon video?
EQ is my true love and I'm feeling nostalgic
Bring back memories
So sad about the graphics for me. I love the mechanics but the visual is difficult to get excited about.
Agreed, not a fan of the Unity assets.
It's a early access the Game is not done there will be wipes.
I'll be sad when this happens, looks like it won't be for a while.
@@Slayheim The game I'm playing is doing a wipe in either Jan. or Feb. I'm fine with it.
It’s not good but it’s not bad
Very fair point lol argue with that
It’s bad when you account 5 million $ and 10 years of work went into this empty shell of a game 😂😂😂
Its alpha, they are 100% wiping the servers when 1.0 drops. (in 10 years)
This game will never come out
This made me laugh lol
Me no money, me want game.
Money can always be earned. You'll get it!
@@HallyVee Nostalgia is a lie, It’s the worst kind of bait you can chase, This game will disappoint you and ruin the joy nostalgia once gave
KITYY KAT!!!!!!!
The graphics looked better in the game 5 years ago, what happened?
Good question. Fair point, I'm with you. I remember showcases of the game with Brad and graphics and ambience seemed better.
@@Slayheimbrads dead rolling over in his grave at the current state of the game 😅
played EQ On release untill about 2005 then played eq 2 for couple years as awell
Awesome! Always nice to meet a fellow OG EQ player!
Dude... show the game while you talk, and preferably some of the things from the game you mention. No one cares enough to watch you babbling for 15 min!
The graphics suck !! They copied the code from Everquest and copy paste. HELP !!!! 😮😮😮
reconsider how many times you breathe and if you should save them for normal, good people instead of wasting yours
please
lol, this made me laugh
Remember to include the full day night cycle. Much bigger aspect than people realize.
I agree with you, billybob. The animation is basically taken from the original EverQuest. No originality. Horrible animation.
No, pantheon falls short on the fantasy, exploration and rewards compared.
There is not a single reason to play Pantheon.. Rise the fuck out of my chair so i don’t get a bloodclot from afk farmer.. someone already almost died from a heartattack while streaming this snore chore
Truth, Not enough honesty around Pantheon, This game is a scam 😅
This game is a damn scam, 10 years and this is what they have. Yeah, huge scam
How is a functioning and playable game that many people enjoy a scam?
Been playing regularly for the past year and they keep releasing content, patching bugs, and adding and iterating on systems. Someone should tell them they’re not very good at scamming.
Yeah it's not a scam it's not vapor ware, its just had a rough road map. They lost the captain at the head so things slowed down.
This comment made me LOL. I know your pain, a lot of us grew tired of waiting. I'm skeptical in some ways myself. I hope they can pull through, there is a lot of work still to be done. Once people make up their mind it's tough to win them back, and a lot of time has passed.
I've already enjoyed 50 hours and I plan to play much more. That makes it worth the price.
20+ the gold flows like water.
