I love how dialects can make life "interesting" for people in ways they never expected.
My Father was an American engineer who wanted to learn German as a teenager so he could read German scientific papers. He found an excellent "German teacher from Germany who spoke German." Dad soon spoke "perfect German" with a "perfect accent."
Fast-forward a few years: Vater is invited to a German university to do lectures on engineering in Muenchen. He has a great time, especially in the beer halls after lectures. All the "Germans" congratulate him on his superb German and accent.
Well, on his way home, Dad has to go through a northern German city and wait a time there. As he is waiting, he speaks his "perfect German with perfect accent" to the locals and they immediately start mocking and insulting him for being a loser from Bayern who can't speak right!
Apparently, Dad's "German-language teacher born in Germany" was actually a Bavarian born in Bavaria who taught perfect Bavarian, and so Dad's "perfect German" was actually "perfect Bavarian."

I think that Col. Reisner is correct about current changes being revolutionary rather than evolutionary. When you see what aerial and naval drones are capable of, you see just how vulnerable multi-million (or in the case of capital ships multi-billion) dollar weapons systems are to asymmetric threats. All the jokes people made about the US military being beaten by "men in sandals with Kalashnikovs" are now being amplified on conventional battlefields as well. This isn't yet an issue at a strategic or geostrategic level (you can't win a nuclear war or Battle of Midway 2.0 with these new assets likes drones or robots), but it is having a huge effect operationally and tactically. Ukraine had major successes in 2022 using drones, and Russia's seemingly slow advance in Khakiv Oblast recently obscures how many Ukrainian artillery assets Lancet drones are taking out quite a few kilometers from the main line of resistance.

Ironically multi-million dollar systems are likely needed to counter this new development with C-UAS systems needing to be advanced radar, sensor, and targeting wise and have potentially budget breaking technology like directed energy installed in order to bring the attrition rate to a reasonable level. We will most likely see high value weapons used to break these C-UAS systems so that the cheap drones can exploit the permissive air environment.

Getting this chap, well done sir,no staging was something we did in the eighties instead we did infiltration, which involved moving into the forward edge of the battle area as platoons on foot from at least 15 miles away rather than larger formations in vehicles (battle taxis)we would then occupy patrol harbours and from there begin recce,s and fighting patrols mission command tactics were essential for this, which the Russians do not do(I doubt the Ukrainians do either)great vid,all the best from sunny troon 😊

This was an interesting discussion. Particularly the impact of drones on the battlefield is given a full and frank discussion from Col. Reisner. Col. Reisner mentions the St. Lo battle which was a break-through enabled by a heavy aerial bombardment: the same tactic was used at Caen (perhaps an even more heavy bombardment there) with a break-in but not a break-through. The parts need to all work together well, and often luck plays a role, so even once Ukraine has a strengthened air force it will take some time and luck for results to flow from that.

Finally an update from colonel but in an unexpected place
War at the end boils down to numbers.
We will probably see fleets of drones fighting drones very soon.
Conventional assets will be more tactically important than before, perhaps protected by its own swarm of drones from a drone carrier vehicle.
There’s gonna be a new micro-tactical plain of drone operation, perhaps each frontline soldier will commander his own drone fleet.
Eventually the drones can be even 3D printed and assembled at the frontline according to changing needs.
And we end up with Total Annihilation!

Issue is that your friend today can be your enemy tomorrow, and for reasons that don't have to make any sense except to the people who are making the decisions.
Germany was actually very friendly to Belgium in 1914, with cultural, economic, and even military connections. It didn't stop the German Army from determining that operational convenience in a war with France was more important than preserving the good relations between Germany and Belgium. End result: Germans occupy 90% of the country for several years.

Geoffrey A. Landis in 1995 published "Rorvik's War", short Hard SciFi story about future of war.
When i read it in 1996 i instantly knew he got it 100% correct.
War in Ukraine looks more and more like "Rorvik's War".

I mean operation Cobra is not the example i'd have used. The reason why it was sucsessful was that the British and Canadians were tying up the German resurves and the bulk of their mobile forces(7 panzer divisions as opposed to the 1 the Americans fought). The Americans also vastly held superiority in material and manpower over the static German forces they were up against- their army was twice the size of the British+Canadian army that was fighting the bulk of the German forces in France at the time.
    Ain't no ballpark.

Drone detection using a pi, a research paper done at the University of Texas. I believe the white paper is titled Drone chase. Or it might not be a white paper I might just be a research paper, either way, Col Reisner might be interested in reading that

Very good video. Personally, I find this topic very interesting. I also follow Colonel Reisner on RUclips and I like his videos. My question regarding drones is, can they be disrupted with jamming? Additionally, I find it unfortunate that the debate on combat drones is still being avoided in Germany, as I believe they will become an indispensable tool in future conflicts."

  • @mikeq7134

The drones have created a static battlefield, in which neither side can safely assemble the forces needed for offense. Basically, where the front settles, there will be the line of the peace settlement.
